How successful / what to expect/ Huawei backup... - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

I am quite frustrated with how my phone keeps giving me blank / dark screen. If screen is down when I get a call, I cannot see who is calling because it presents a near black screen... as discussed in this thread.
So I"m thinking of doing a factory reset. But in my case, using a lot of apps, many requiring passwords, etc, setup is a real pain in the rear.
IF I do a backup with Huawei Backup, what should I expect with a restore from that?
Accounts restored?
Data Restored?
Passwords Restored?
Screen setup restored> (I'm certainly doubting this one)
Call Logs restored?
Assuming of course all selections are made during the backup.
Appreciate any feedback.

Ive used backup a few times after an ota update after unlock reroot and after |I restore my phone is back just as it was before reset as long as you select all items in backup i think you should be ok.

Thanks. I've done the reset and restore. Setting the phone back up was pretty easy after the restore.

Icons zapped after Sprite Backup

I restored a backup using the Sprite Backup included with the Fuze. After restoring, the following icons are just folders: AT&T Mall, AT&T Music, Games & Apps, AT&T GPS, Tools, and Messaging. Does anyone know how I can get them back (short of a hard reset)?
Same Problem
I had the same problem the first few times I did Sprite Backup's restore.
I'm not sure what I did this last two times, but the icons are working.
The last two times after using Clear Storage, I think I used Sprite Restore immediately after all letting all the AT&T bloatware install. I did not manually initiate any soft reset before using Sprite Restore, but I did allow the phone to reset when it said it needed to reset itself.
Maybe that will work for you, let me know if it works for you too!
Well, I ended up getting the icons off another Fuze, which worked. The .icon files had been deleted for the files in question for some reason. Very weird.
Is it best to do clear storage before doing a Sprite Restore? Or does it make any difference? This is my first experience using Sprite, and I was a little nervous about it. I did a lot of rearranging of programs, deleting at least the shortcuts to many AT&T programs, etc. I don't want to lose all of that, but I'm not sure how much Sprite Restore actually restores. The icon thing made me nervous.

Sprite Backup... what WONT it recover

Im contemplating a hard reset and use Sprite backup. So my question is.. what WONT it bring back.. in terms of settings and programs and what not. I obviously dont care much about the storage card, but just everything else.. what will i lose.. call history.. sms... mail account settings, program settings.. UI stuff...
Thanks for ure help.
Anyone have any ideas?
Assuming you have the latest version, it "should" recover everything. But I put that in quotes because something flaky can always happen depending on any number of factors. However, it still beats the alternative of not backing up at all.
I can tell you that I had to do a restore of my Fuze a few days ago, using Sprite 6.5, and it worked flawlessly. Hope that helps.
By and large...sprite is able to backup and restore almost every setting inlcuding email and your email account settings. Just keep in mind that email settings backed up wont be transferable to another device. Just in case your planning on doing a restore on another device.

Lost some contact info after factory wipe, need some advice.

I tried to flash to a different ROM and it either bricked, or I was just impatient(waited almost 2 hours), but I stopped it. And then the infuse wouldn't boot up, was just stuck on "samsung". So I used the Odin unbrick method found on these forums.
After this, it booted up, but most of my apps wouldn't work properly, and I couldn't dl anything from the market, so I factory reset.
So now it works, but I've lost some contacts that I recently added, and all of my texts. All of the contacts from my old phone are still there, so I guess only the ones on the sim card are saved. Can anyone advise me if its even possible to recover any of the stuff I lost?
Also, how can I make sure that the contacts are being saved to sim, so that there's no risk of losing them?
Sync with Gmail account. Its better.

ATT offers to back up your contact lists on their server at least they do mine. not sure of if there's a charge or not. I have mine set to auto sync everynight. good thing about that is if you brick or get a new phone its just a dl away
what is the lesson here... BACK TO GMAIL ACCOUNT!

Yup. My contacts are always synced to my Google account, so I can wipe all I want.
SMS Backup and Restore works for texts, same for Call Logs Backup and Restore for call logs, but be careful - a full-blown factory wipe in Settings will nuke your SD card and that's where the backups reside by default. Copy them off your device before doing any significant changes.
Another option is to do occasional Nandroid backups in CWM.

Question Backup and Restore very minimal?

I made backups and after a reset, restored to the Watch 4. But am I the only person who is very disappointed with what is exactly backed up and restored? I mean, the panel order is reset to default, my installed apps are not reinstalled, settings of watch faces are not restored, even though the backup procedure states it restores settings, they are not! Anyone else has this as well?
Yes back up is very minimal compared to my GW3 , when I factory reset it was basically like setting a new watch up again .

Yup, just went through this myself. At first I thought it couldn't be that bad - but it is.

Question Android 13 update made a mess of my Pixel 6A, need to backup, reset and restore

Don't know what happened, but the A13 update basically borked my phone. Dialer, messages, fingerprint reader, screen handling, notifications, Android Auto, etc ALL no longer work correctly. I never know how exactly the phone will behave on any given interaction. Its a mess. It was working perfectly fine on A12
So, I have to do some kind of a reset. I NEED my messages and call logs to be correct on restore (use it for lots of business stuff), everything else, whatever is backed up will be ok.
I tried doing a migration from the A13 6A to a factory reset Moto Edge 21 with A12 on it, and the A13 Pixel refuses to cooperate. Android migration usually works pretty well, but in this case, the 6A A13 refused to see the Moto A12, and gave me some super weird Android File Manager error message. I planned on using the Moto Edge as a data mule, reset the 6A, then migrate everything back.
So, I need to do a backup, reset and restore and am dubious of Google One actually working. Open to suggestions or actual experiences of how to do this with minimal disruption. Most of the internet "guides" on resetting are useless, and don't address how not to lose and/or destroy your data (text/messages, call logs, etc, incl MMS)
The only thing I can think of is using Wondershare Mobiletrans for backup and restore and cross my fingers that it'll actually work.
I use Swift Backup to backup and restore now. I would give that a try.
I use swift as well...but u have to have a backup app already in place BEFORE getting borked...lol There's limited options for going back to 12. As mentioned in the big PSA warning thread at the top...if u try to do a common rollback, google's ARB (anti-rollback) if triggered, WILL HARD=BRICK your phone! Then u have to send it back to google for a factory reset meaning ofc loss of all data. So plz use caution and no matter how u chose to proceed...Swift Backup is a gem! A one-time purchase ano NO monthly fees! Best regards...
Try updating again, I got two Android 13 updates on mine, the first one broke the fingerprint reader, then I hit update again, and it downloaded another update that subsequently fixed it.
If you just want to backup messages and phone calls, I use this:
SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Google Play
A simple app that backs up and restores SMS & MMS messages and call logs.
play.google.com
Can back up to cloud as well as your device.
Otherwise I've had no issues with the Google backup in Settings.
