new bixby update?? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I keep getting a notification to update Bixby Voice. Every time I attempt to update it gives me an error, then tells me to update again.
Anyone else having this issue?

Cleared cache and updated just fine.

How did it update just fine? Location? Carrier?

Not that I can speak of. I don't really use it. The only reason I tried is it said something about Bixby Voice.

OK. Since I have been using BXactions app, where I chose "do nothing" while the Bixby button is pressed, I would probably stay away of updating because the Bixby developes might have closed this exploit.

Does bixby voice work?

I'm getting the same error. It tries to Update but then it says most recent version installed but whenever Bixby reloads it shows the error all-over again.

Dumb question but why are you using an app to essentially turn off the Bixby button instead of just disabling the Bixby app?

The reason is simple. There are actually 2 reasons:
1) My S8+ is non-rooted. I don't want to install any package disabler for bixby related files disabling. I had a negative experience on my previous Note4 with a package disabler in the past (only TitaniumBackup worked well on rooted device);
2) BXActions enables you to reassign an action taken after the bixby button is pressed.
For instance, I want to disable the bixby today and I may want camera start in a week.
BTW, BXActions works flawlessly so far...

Ah good to know. I've been out of the Samsung game a while and so I just went right to package disabler pro that I bought in the S6 days.
Wish there was a way to change the button without having a second program. Oh well.

Bixby Voice is launching soon. Unlocked S8 in the US just got an update with June security patch and Bixby partially working in English.
Seems like it's just about them "flicking the switch" for the updates to roll out, probably why it keeps telling you there is an update.

Check for the update now. Mine now says I’m up to date instead of prompting me to update.

are u checking for update i.n the galaxy store.

Huge bixby update

[Q] Lollipop - Accessibility Services (Greenify) cannot enable

Hi everyone,
I decided to reflash stock and i'm running into some problems with enabling accessibility services for greenify and pushbullet. Somehow I managed to turn these on, I have then turned pushbullet off with no issues. Trying to re-enable this I get the "Use Pushbullet?" prompt with the cancel and OK buttons. I am unable to click OK... only cancel works.
Does anyone else have this problem? I've reflashed about 3 times now... md5 of image is OK so I just wanted to see if you all can enable and disable accessibility services without any issues.
Thanks

I have this exact same problem with every single app in Accessibility... I threw on Lollipop and have yet to be able to click OK. It doesn't even register as a button. Hopefully someone sees this and has a clue as to what is going on.
I wonder if this is a bug... :S

I doubt it, or at least if it is it's a very small one since I have yet to see anything else about it. You're the first person I've encountered with the same issue, funny how you mention both Greenify and Pushbullet (I have both and I didn't notice the issue until after I tried enabling Greenify)
I can confirm it doesn't work for the Google builtin services either on my phone: Talkback / Switch Access

I've been struggling with this exact issue on both my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 wifi. Flash to stock, setup my account, start the restore process, apps start installing, I wait until either LastPass or AutoVoice are installed and then I can immediately go in and enable accessibility for it. Anything after than and it can't click on the OK button. My theory is that you get one shot at setting whatever applications. It's definitely a bug that not app or hardware specific.

I found the answer for my specific case. It was Lux that was preventing me from enabling accessibility or installing from unknown sources. Sooo many factory resets and reflashing stock/rooting and it was Lux the whole time. Arggg...

Although apparently I could just have disabled it... LOL. Either way the devs have been informed

Wow... Thanks for this! it works now.. damn i wiped my phone 3 times :S. Ah well at least battery life is now rocking!
Thanks for finding the root cause! Seems like we're a bunch of people using the same apps.
GOOD GRIEF! This was so annoying. THANK YOU! This was driving me crazy. I am writing this on Jan 7 2015, I dont think the author knows this is an issue. I will write to him/her. Thanks again. On a Nexus 6 5.0.1
Same problem with app called Twilight. Pausing the app allows OK button to register.
Same thing for "good sleep pro". Highly unexpected. Big thanks!

For me it was "Bluelight Filter". Thanks for setting me in the right direction.
Not a Nexus 5 user but...
I still use a Sprint Galaxy Nexus (toroplus) but, it was Lux for me too. The two reasons I didn't think it could have been Lux are, first, after this same issue came to light with the install button on sideloaded apps, they made Lux auto pause on screens where their overlay could cause issues. Second, it's daytime where I am right now. The screen dimming overlay shouldn't be active during the day. Either way, I think I'll need to poke the Lux devs to inform them that their experimental work around still isn't working in the accessibility menu.
Anyway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'll just have to remember to disable Lux when I need to perform protected actions.
Thank you! HTC One M8 user, and killing Lux helped!

I have the same issue on my tmobile note 3 can't click OK in accessibility services settings

That Stipid Bixby button

It doesn't seem to do anything since an update i got yesterday on ATT. Anyone else have the same issue ?
Before the update, Bixby button was working fine. After the update, button didn't work initially. I tried enabling swipe on homescreen to activate bixby and then tried button ( I had to double click instead of single click). after that, it worked but launching bixby with button became very slow. I'm still using double click to launch and I wish they push out a new update soon.
I'm also on AT&T
I too have this problem. In my case, even two quick presses in succession fails more often than it succeeds.

Are you on AT&T as well ? I have the same problem too. Swipe on home screen works well for now. It takes about a second to load but using button IF I successfully launch bixby, it takes about 4-5 seconds to launch. Before the update, it was instantaneous.
One thing I noticed is if I disable breifing in Bixby cards, performance improved. Try and see if it works
Edit: I can confirm that after disabling breifing, bixby works well.

I am not--T-Mobile here.
Agreed: disabling the 3 cards I had running gets the double press to work reliably. However, doesn't that defeat the purpose of Bixby (what little there is right now)?
Double tab does the trick. Is new after the latest update.

oh yeah I agree. It's just a temp fix till they push update. They introduced this bug after update...so they should fix it soon
I'm also on T-Mobile and having this issue (just got my S8+ yesterday). I was going to return the phone to T-Mobile for are placement until I found this post. Now I know that I have to wait for an update to fix it as a new phone would exhibit the same problem after I did the update.
New update was push out to stop people from remapping bixiby button and stop accidental pressing of it.
So its now a double click.
Best thing is to have online chats with samsung and complain about this. If enough people do it, they will oush out an update to fix it.
Verizon here. I have noticed mine works with double clicking Bixby about 60% of the time, and 30% of the time it works with a single click. Remaining 10% being me left holding the phone staring at the home screen waiting.
The annoying bit is that it's inconsistent, so when a single click decides to work it opens and then immediately closes if I double clicked it.
Double press and wait a second or two before it decides to actually show up ?
What does Stipid mean?
Can get Bixby Remapper from Playstore. It allows remapping even after the update. It's free too.

Uh which one? I see like 4. I'm going to try this on my wife's s8. She wants it to open camera. I disabled all the Bixby crap on my s8+ and I like it that way. Samsung is as bad as the government these days with their cramming stuff down people's throats. Great phones though

utter waste of time. If this is so far off being ready they should have excluded it and added it to the note 8 or allow it to be mapped to something usable in the meantime.
Worked fine for me in the UK before the update. Now its a double tap with varying degrees of content.
yesterday I got an update on AT&T( mifhr be rhe red tint fix). Post update, bixby button is working fine

A quick access to my calander, imp email, uber, S health.
Things bixby does better than google:
Good integration with work email and events from work calender, twitter also flipboard feed
Things google does better than bixby:
Google on tap and stories related to my previous search. I absolutely love google on tap, especially when tracking packages and good integration with my gmail accounts.
I don't wanna pick one over other. I like and use both of them
I click the Bixby and it takes a few seconds each time to load and refresh, no Google integration (Keep, Waze, etc...) another half baked Samsung idea they will insist on tormenting us with.

Same here. Have recorded wake up command several times. It even seems to struggle to hear what I am saying when I am training it during the "record wake-up command" procedure. Quite annoying. Google does not have the same issue wakes up every time with "OK Google".
I received the early access on Thursday, and have had great success with it. The wake-up and unlock commands have, so far, not failed to work - and general command interpretation is beyond what I would have expected at this point.
To those having issues, I would suggest that there is an installation problem.
My app does work perfectly fine... no complaints so far
Just a quick question,
Most of device /app related, commands,
does it require an active data connection?
Plse note,
I am not referring to web /internet related
commands /search etc.
Purely commands eg to launch 3rd party
app, search for "settings /function" etc.
I know in S voice the wake up "Hi Galaxy"
wifi on etc
you could do without a data connection.
However most of the other commands it required data connection.
For me,
if Bixby requires active data
connection for phone related commands then you sit with extra battery usage,
Apps issues, connecting in background.
Also if you on an limited data plan etc.
So far,
as much as i prefer Bixby
i have seen no improvement in Bixby cards, Amount of Bixby cards are very limited. etc.
Bixby vision (for me) is a waste of time,
as it's wrong identifying objects most of time.
This is why, i am hoping the voice function
should be practical and better than the other Bixby functions.
Thanks for any positive response.

As far as Bixby goes, none of the developers here in xda have
found a way yet to get Bixby to wake up using your voice on the
S7/S7 Edge phones.
It's very far from being anything even close to perfect.
It might be fun for the first 5 minutes but after that you
will see it was a total waste of time setting it up.
The way it works right now is by swiping the home screen to
the right side and clicking on the tiny Bixby icon or you need
to get a button re-mapper which can be set to use a long press
of the volume down of the phone and then you need to click the
Bixby icon to talk to Bixby.
It works like a very poorly designed push-to-talk walkie talkie
and it's super slow and or very laggy..
Nothing like Google Assistant. Not worth messing around with.
Please note, this is only my personal opinion which usually is
not worth very much! LOL
Good luck, Have a great day!
Bixby is working fine with me. Everything works fine except sometimes Hi Bixby is not recognized.

Split screen view option missing from menu

Updated to Pie. The split screen option is not in the menu no matter what app I try it with. I've checked every place I could think of in Good Lock, Nova Launcher & Samsung settings & can't find anything that would be preventing it. I even tried under Samsung Launcher & had the same result. If anyone has any ideas, please share.

I tried a few things but couldn't replicate what you are experiencing. Are you running Good Lock? I know it has a feature that modifies multi window, but I don't know if it would cause the issue you have.
Did you take the ota directly from the carrier? Or did you flash the new pie update? Mine came from the carrier last Thursday. Today, I backed up everything and did a factory reset and it feels like it's running smoother. Maybe that could fix your issue.
Turns out it was a bug in Good Lock's Multistar. They pushed an update last night that fixed the problem for me. Thanks to all for trying to help.
