Anyone else's stock US U11 fail SecureNet safety check out of the box? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

My device is failing and as a result I am unable to setup Android Pay. Is anyone else seeing this on their phone?

Same issue

I'm rooted with Magisk and I pass.... so that's very odd

Just got an OTA that fixed it.

Yeah, unlocked. It seemed like a day zero ota that rolled out a bit late, it didn't update my monthly security but after it I had an update to my headphone dac and Assistant app.

How did you do it? I flashed TWRP and Magisk, and then flashed the stock recovery, and I am failing safety net...

HTCdev to unlock bootloader
Flash TWRP
Flash Magisk
Boom, pass SafetyNet no worries
EDIT: Just read Google has passed an update to SafetyNet and it no longer passes with Magisk V12. Apparently V13 fixes this, will flash soon and report back

Currently not working for me but I didn't flash the stock boot.img before I flashed the new Magisk so that is probably my issue there. Don't really have the time to mess with it currently so it will have to wait. If anyone else manages to get it working, feel free to update us
EDIT: Got off my ass and uninstalled Magisk, flashed the original boot.img and removed the Magisk Manager. Then I restarted the handset and flashed the Magisk v13 beta.... Pass SafetyNet checks no worries!

I figured that out last night too after spending an hour wondering what I did wrong. Enabling Core-only mode on v12 also works, but you get no modules which is kind of pointless. I will try flashing V13.
EDIT:
Just flashed V13, and it still doesn't work.
@heslo.rb26 How did you get it to work?

I think it might have failed because I flashed a module. Don't think you can do that in the current beta and still pass the new safety net.

That could very well be the issue, currently only using Magisk for root, no modules

I had SafetyNet working with v12 but then on the next reboot it failed. I upgraded to Magisk v13 and again it worked for one reboot. Also looks like the OTA is for unlocked models only (not Sprint)... anyone got any others ideas?

safetynet tripping

Hi
I flashed stock image on my device for some reasons and since then no matter which version of Supersu I flash the safetynet is failing.
any suggestions will be very helpful
SafetyNet will always fail if your device is rooted, even with systemless mode.

anyway to bypass this with another super user tool?
No way aside from unrooting.

SuperSU will always trip it. Also on a stock image with stock kernel, an unlocked bootloader will also trip it since the latest update

The unlocked bootloader check isn't present on all devices, and doesn't seem to be present on this one. Also, phh's root with Magisk and Magisk Hide currenly passes.

Yes magisk will pass, but SuperSU will always fail. It's not looking for the packages installed for magisk, but does look for the packages installed by SuperSU. And the latest security patches updated safetynet to do a bootloader check, which can be masked by a custom kernel.

But the Nexus 5 is no longer getting security patches (the October one was the last one), so wouldn't that mean that it will never get that check?

SafetyNet itself will be, but to detect an unlocked bootloader, it relies on the bootloader to pass a kernel parameter that it looks at. The Nexus 5 bootloader doesn't pass any such parameter, and a bootloader update (of which there are no more) would be required for it to start.

Magisk v16 bootloop

Hi all,
Just tried to flash the latest Magisk (16.0) from TWRP on my honor 8 running B360 and am now in a a bootloop.. Nothing new fixing this but does anyone know what version of magisk will work or why this could have happened? I'm keen to get it working!
Cheers
So I've tried to flash back to an unrooted rom and must've broken something because I now cannot get into TWRP at all. I fastboot flash version 3.1.1-1 which has worked for me countless times and fastboot says it flashes fine but when I try and boot into it with power+vol up the phone goes off for a second, vibrates, pauses for another second before vibrating again and then showing the device cannot be trusted screen. Has anyone ever had this? I'm not sure what else to try here (I also tried flash stock recovery and it does the same thing)
Edit: Got TWRP back, I think my device must be on an earlier version (even though it's corrupt). In case anyone else finds this, this thread helped me https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/please-help-boot-enter-recovery-t3660408/page3
First of all: if after flash magisk and you have a bootloop, just flash the uninstall package from magisk website. This package revert back to the original kernel and uninstall magisk.
Second job: if you want to install magisk, first install magisk manager app. And before flash the magisk from twrp, in the magisk manager check the "Preserve force encryption" and "Preserve AVB 2.0/dm-verity". If this option (or just the first) not checked, the magisk flashing results is a bootloop.

Yeah, using twrp-3.1.1-1-frd.img. Phone is EMUI 5.0, android 7.0 FRD-L09C432B360
Edit: I have the AL version with dual sim that I've re-branded. Could this be causing an issue?
I don't think so, but I don't know.
Can you try to flash the last magisk developer version, or wait for another user that rebranded the honor.
Good luck!
You have to use older version of Magisk. V16 only works on newer firmwares. Try v13 or v14, they both will work flawlessly.

SafetyNet Check in magisk failing

I have a rooted OP6 on 5.1.9. An app I want to use (blind) can somehow detect the fact that I'm rooted and won't let me use the app despite root being hidden from it in Magisk Hide. Upon investigating, I discovered my SafetyNet check in Magisk is failing.
It worked when I originally rooted it a few days ago. I do not have custom recovery or xposed.
Any ideas why safetynet check could be failing or how to go about troubleshooting it?

What version of Magisk did you flash? Flash Magisk 16.4 only. Older versions don't support the OnePlus 6 and flashing newer versions has caused many weird problems. Flash Magisk uninstaller, reboot to TWRP, then flash Magisk 16.4. Once it gets going it will tell you that it can update the Magisk version. Let it update that way. Flashing newer versions causes many weird problems bit letting it update always seems to work.
run the uninstaller magisk .zip then check if safety net passed, might be something unrelated?
im on 5.1.9 with SN passing with TWRP and Magisk

Do you have it hidden in Magisk? Google Pay works here if you hide it.
Okay, so I have uninstalled magisk, don't have root, and I still can't use google pay, install netflix, use my bank's app, etc.

In playstore / settings are you uncertified? After unlocking bootloader I was and couldn't use Google pay. I flashed magisk and it was still uncertified so I cleared playstore app data. Now the phone says certified and Google pay works for me.
I suggest you flash 16.4 magisk and clear app data in playstore to see if you can get them working. Also you will need a different app than magisk manager to check safety net ATM as it will come back with "invalid response"

i did clean install of the recovery image this morning. all seems fine. nothing visually different

Factory reset in TWRP (after installing factory update and rebooting).
You'll have to set up as new but won't lose internal data.

I had some issues getting the May update, TWRP 3.3.0-1, Kirisakura 2.3.0, and Magisk 19.1 to play nicely together. Lots of "rescue party" reboots at the "G" logo of booting after trying to install everything together. I basically did what you did to solve the issue too. Installed the May update (removing -w) then installed TWRP 3.3.0-1, Kirisakura 2.3.0 and Magisk 18.1 and restarted back to system to make sure it all worked (which it did). After that I upgraded to Magisk 19.1 via the Magisk app and everything seems to be fine now. My temp solution until this was just use TWRP 3.2.3-3 which I had been using up until this point. That worked too and allowed everything to play nice from the initial installation.
Aren't you supposed to boot system before flashing magisk?

I was wondering the same thing about whether you finished booting before installing Magisk. I completely boot after every step (Image, TWRP, Magisk, Kernel - ElementalX installed with EX Kernel Manager) and don't stack installs in TWRP. Been doing that for years, and it has saved me some time long term despite the couple of extra minutes during installs. My other thought was possibly a bad 19.1 file.

I always reboot to the system after the factory image/monthly update is installed and allow it to finish setup. Then I fastboot into TWRP to install TWRP recovery, my kernel, and Magisk via the "add more zips" option in TWRP. I've been doing this ever since I got the device and never ran into issues until this May update. Doing this with the May update, TWRP 3.3.0-1, Kirisakura 2.3.0 and Magisk 19.1 caused reboots like I described. However, reverting to TWRP 3.2.3-3 instead (my initial solution/fix) or Magisk 18.1 then upgrading Magisk to 19.1 (like @sliding_billy suggested) worked fine. This to me implies a compatibility issue of some type and not an issue with the method of installation.

magisk and gpay dont work after googleplay services version 16.0.91
if i downgrade to 16091 it works - but i cant let it upgrade otherwise it breaks gpay
im not sure if its on all phones or just pixels with the titan chip that GPS is now interacting with, but if you try to upgrade to 17.x google play service with magisk - it doesnt work and detects root.
just FYI for people with issues with updates let it boot into OS before flashing TWRP / KERNEL / MAGISK otherwise you will get a bootloop.
and personally i flash TWRP/KERNEL/Magisk in that order and ive never gotten a bootloop (but have flashing kernel last a couple times)
my rationale behind flashing magisk last is because if you were on stock kernel, you would just flash magisk, you wouldnt flash magisk then stock kernel over it would you?

I sideloaded. Worked fine.
Anyone else unable to root the May update? I installed the update, TWRP, and the kernel I use and everything was fine. After installing Magisk 19.1 the phone boots straight to a "System UI has stopped" dialog box. Substratum overlays were uninstalled before updating and uninstalling Magisk fixes the issue, leading me to believe that it is the cause.
I tried installing Magisk 18.1 instead to see if it would work, but oddly it doesn't seem to install at all. When I boot the phone Magisk Manager was installed, but it claims that Magisk is not installed and no apps can get root access.

Just Unlocking the Bootloader breakes safety net and make device unverified..

So as the title says safety net breaks just by unlocking the bootloader and doing nothing else, no twrp no magisk and even if i flash magisk it doesnt fix it even with magiskprops module.
I flashed stock rom 10.3.1 with msmtool and booted the phone and everything was fine until i unlocked the bootloader and rebooted. I lost all oneplus wallpapers and even then play store says device not verified and netflix shows as unsupported app.
Even with 10.3.4 the issue is same and cant be fixed with magisk. Previously i was using 10.3.2 with unlocked bootloder and magisk and safety net was fine so how it is now not working with factory rom i flashed with msmtool

There's nothing you can do about safetynet. The moment you unlock the bootloader, you have tripped the safetynet. Why do you need safetynet btw unless you are using bank apps or secure stuff, safetynet really doesn't help much

Bro as i told already in my post i was yesterday using unlocked bootloader + magisk+ twrp with passing safety net. The problem started when i clean flashed stock rom with msmtool and unlocked bootloader.
ANYWAYS GUYS AFTER SO MANY USELESS ATTEMPS I SOLVED IT..
Older version of magisk worked and safety net passes, i dont know how new version failed me :/ Device is certified again
That's why I don't update anything if not have to
Config below
Sent from OnePlus 7 Pro, OxygenOS 10.0.3, TWRP 3.3.1-75, Magisk 20.4, TaiChi Xposed 6.1.8, Modded Play Store 16.5.15, android core.java patched and SafetyNet pass OK
Install magisk
Go to magisk settings
Enable magisk hide(if you're getting problems with banking apps or games that detect root just hide magisk manager too)
Enable it for google play services and enjoy!
Playstore uncertified status appeared to me when I flash stock rom through TWRP but it solves flashing new firmware via OTA
Sent from my OnePlus7Pro using XDA Labs
The reason an older version of Magisk worked is because newer versions of Magisk turn MagiskHide off by default, which is needed to pass SafetyNet.
Also, SafetyNet is not an e-fuse like Knox is. You don't "trip" it, you can only fail it when it checks your device.
