Two-Part Question: Manually Install Nougat and Then Root - General Questions and Answers

Samsung Note 5
Model: SM-N920P
Android Version: 6.0.1
Baseeband Version: N920PVPS2BPD1
Kernel Version: 3.10.61-7231607/[email protected] #1/Thu Mar 31 14:24:41 KST 2016
Build Number: MMB29K.N920PVPS2BPD1
Rooted (do not remember the method I used to root)
After thoroughly troubleshooting issues with several Google Apps, I need to wipe my phone and start from scratch. I am currently running Marshmallow with OTA blocked. All of my data is already backed up. First question, once I wipe, will the phone automatically install Nougat? If not, what is the best way to manually upgrade to Nougat before wiping the phone? Second question, what is the cleanest and most effective way to root my phone once wiped and running Nougat?

[Completed] [Q] Install Lollipop on SGH-I337

I have a S4 that I am trying to upgrade to Lollipop. I tried through the AT&T Software update and keep getting "Software Update Interrupted." I remember I had rooted it quite awhile ago (towelroot)? But I am selling the phone now and just want to restore it to stock and upgrade it to lollipop. Kies says it is updated (which of course it's not). I do not have an external SD card. I did a "Factory data reset" from settings to see if that would allow me to update but it didn't. I did some reading and a lot of old Google posts said just to bring it to Best Buy. Are there any other options as those are outdated and I am doubting BB will be willing to help. Any and all help appreciated! Thanks!

Really, no one? All I need is someone to point me to the proper thread so that I can get this thing back to stock without bricking it. Someone out there has to know the thread!
Hi, xml to put for using XDA Assist. If you're rooted or made any system changes the ota will not work. You probably have to flash the nb1 tar file in Odin and start over. Rooted Galaxy S8+ - Easy to move to Oreo?

Hello,
I'm a total n00b when it comes to this stuff, but when I bought the new Galaxy S8+ I managed to root it using guides on this forum and it's now running an old version of the software.
Some data:
Phone: SM-G955F
Android version: 7.0
Build number: NRD90M.G955FXXU1AQDD
I know this is kind of old (1 April 2017) but it took me so long to set up root, get Magisk masking the right apps and customize the phone as I want it, that I didn't dare update the software with anything newer in case things go wrong.
Now that Samsung will soon be releasing Alpha Oreo versions, I was thinking of maybe moving the android version forward to something newer.
My question is, how easy is it? Is it just a matter of flashing the new release via Odin?
And will I lose any of my configurations? Will I lose root? Is root even possible in Oreo??
If it's not too hard of a process I might try it, just looking for some enlightenment.
Thanks!
Once the official version releases check for the ROM you're using to update as well, or flash one that's been updated. Unless you take the OTA on stock it's going to require you to full wipe though. Even then I would full wipe, you're upgrading to an entirely new version of Android. Dirty flashing not recommended at all.

Need GUIDE to ROOT my SM-J727P

It is my hope to locate the necessary files & utilities, ie., Odin, ROM, Recovery, TWRP, etc.,
to ROOT my phone, FIRST with a STOCK, DE-BLOATED firmware. If de-bloated is not an option, then a TWRP option would be the next most desirable.
It has been quite sometime (Summer 2013 on a Motorola Droid RAZR) since I flashed a phone with a custom ROM.
SO, it could be said I'm a bit rusty.
Please, TREAT ME LIKE AN IDIOT. As if I know nothing. Explain things as if talking to a child.
You CANNOT possibly hurt my feelings.
I need a clearly written, step-by-step instruction manual to perform the flashing of the phone.
I am very proficient in Windows, but am using an antique emachine running XP-SP3 with 512M of RAM, and 2.93GHz proc.
So, it has Wi-Fi to my phone, but no access to internet if the phone gets bricked.
A good backup plan, IN ADVANCE, is advisable. Suggestions are welcome.

SM-920F unable to dial (call/use the phone app) on custom ROMs

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me with the following issue. For a long time I used a custom ROM(NNE 3.1) and was able to call out and to be called. Until recently the Phone App just started to crash on any number I wanted to dial to. Since I haven't reset the phone for a long time, I chose to try out some newer ROMs, assuming the calling out/in problem would be solved.
However, whatever custom ROM I'm trying, calling doesn't work anymore. After re-flashing the stock firmware(Stock Samsung Android 7 - G920FXXU5EQI6_G920FPHN5EQI2_PHN) with Odin, I was able to call and to be called again.
After which I thought/hoped, maybe the stock ROM would have fixed the Phone App issue, so I tried various custom ROMs installed with TWRP, but with none of them the Phone App works. Not even with the exact same ROM I've been using for a long time. (I backed-up that ROM back then, and re-flashed the exact same file this time [NNe 3.1]).
What am I missing here? Some Samsung hardware security feature that got flipped back somehow?
Help is much appreciated...the stock firmware is so slow...
Thanks in advance!

G930T - Android 6.0.1 - Not getting updates.

Hey guys, i've got a few questions.
I just got this new phone:
Model Number: SM-G930T
Android Version: 6.0.1
Baseband Version: G930TUVU4APK4
BUILD NUMBER: MMB29M.G930TUVU4APK1
I am using this phone outside of the US (not on T-Mobile).
I tried to update it manually from the phone settings and it keeps saying "the device is up to date".
I tried also to update it from PC with Samsung smart switch without any success.
Here are the questions:
1. Why am i blocked to updates?
2. Is there any way to update this phone manually? what is the easiest way?
3. Do I have to root the device in order to update the android version?
4. Can I update it directly to the last android version available (8.0.0)? or do i have to to it by steps?
Thank you very much!
I'm no expert, but I suspect flashing the latest firmware with Odin would do the trick. I was able to do that on a T-Mobile phone while abroad, so I expect it should work for you as well.
