Root/TWRP/Flash T-Mobile S7 ( SM-G930T ) with Android 7.0 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Of course S7 on Tmobile gets unlocked the day it updates to 7.0 but I want to drop some different roms on it, I hate the T-Mobile/Samsung crap that just eats space and battery.
I have enabled developer mode, turned on USB Debugging and enabled the OEM Unlock.
I have tried Odin 3.12.3 and 3.10.6 ( which comes with Chain fire ).
Before and after trying a factory reset, I am completely unable to replace the recovery with TWRP or chainfire or even just drop a new rom on it. When I try to use Odin, I get an error message " Complete(Write) operation failed" or " Complete(AUTH) operation failed". I've tried running Odin as Admin, I've rebooted my computer and the phone multiple times and tried 4 different USB cables ( thick and thin ) which all pass data at a good speed.
Any thoughts? This is getting annoying.

Wait what? Did I miss something? When was the S7 bootloader unlocked?
---------- Post added at 01:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:26 PM ----------
Afaik it is only possible to sim unlock the device, not bootloader unlock. Unless keys were leaked from Samsung or an exploit was found.

What do you mean by "Tmobile gets unlocked the day it updates to 7.0" ?
Please go on details

As far as I know, the bootloader is and always will be locked. There is no way to replace the recovery.

Unlocked T-Mobile Note 5 not getting signal

Hello everyone!
I bought a Unlocked note 5 like a week ago and it was working perfect I was using it with At&t, since I root every phone I buy I decided to root this one, after rooting; the phone started rebooting by itself ( I used Max's High on android root process ) since it was buggin me out and rebooting too many times I decided to flash another stock image ( being this 6.0 Marsmallow test http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...eral/note-5-t-mobile-marshmallow-tar-t3250744 ) to see if it fixed the issue, gues what? it didn't! And on top of that I got this message:
"Security Error: This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support. Please note that repair/return for this issue may have additional cost"
So it gave me the option to restart, I did, but I had signal and my messages were coming through, after it rebooted ( by itself ) like a 3rd time I stopped getting signal, when I have my at&t sim in it stays (Searching), I've tried everything I can think of, Changing apn's, I downgraded to 5.1.1 Stock and still get the same Security Error and still have no signal.
Please anyone that can help me, I've never had this issue when rooting any other phone, does this have a fix?

Robot to recovery. Backup your stuff to an otg USB and then wrote the phone completely. Flash COD6 with Odin and see what happens
Wait, before you rooted the device, did you turn on OEM Unlock in developer menu?

Crap my bad. Note 4 was last device I had before this. COD6 was pretty popular and most likely still is. Good thing you caught that! @TEKHD has a thread that has instructions on how to Odin the latest firmware for the Note 5. It's in the General section I believe. Do a full wipe first though before you flash with Odin.
Oh yeah, and I advise staying away from the Marshmallow Beta build for now.

Phone bricked itself and having issues recovering

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide. This one has me stumped.
First, I have never rooted my wife's device.
The other day it rebooted randomly and would never make it past the t-mobile splash screen. I figured since it wouldn't boot I would try clearing the cache within the bootloader. That made matters worse.
Finally, I did a factory reset to try and fix the problem and now the phone is telling me that there was a problem applying an update and I must use Smart Switch.
Well, when I tried using smart switch it get right to the very end and fails saying the it is FRP locked and no custom software can be installed. I read through some threads and tried using Odin to flash the device using the latest firmware version. Same error with FRP lock. At this point my phone wont boot and I can only get to the bootloader, or to the download screen.
Any suggestions on what I should do next? My KNOX is still at 0, but my software version reads custom for some reason, even though I didn't try to flash anything.
Have you tried using Kies recovery?

Yes, gives the same error as Odin and Smart Switch.
As another note when i enter the bootloader menu it says that it is unable to mount /system so it's as though it got corrupted some how. But I can't flash stock firmware to fix it due to the FRP lock.

I did. It gets to the very end and then give me the FRP error. I could clear the FRP error if the stupid thing would boot to the OS so I could login.
Do you have tmobile ? And if so do you have insurance on it ?
Sounds like you should exchange. The only other thing to try is root the hell out of it.

Mines had a tough life, but I brought it back to life after erasing everything in recovery. New, recovery first then the operating system. Yours could be broken, but you wouldn't know till you tripped knox. Not that t-mobile seems to care.

Unable to flash stock MM rom with odin. Please help me out!

I downloaded a stock Marshmallow rom from here and followed the instructions on the same webpage:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/70531/N920PVPS2BPD1_N920PSPT2BPD1_SPR/
I tried using different versions of odin (3.10.0, 3.04, 1.83) but every time I am either getting stuck at "SetupConnection..." or it starts to flash (no progressbar indication though) then gets failed after NAND Write Start!!
I have tried reinstalling samsung drivers, I have removed Kies and Smart Switch. I have also tried different ports of the laptop and also tried using different cables.
Please guide me what I am doing wrong here.
You are absolutely using SM-N920P phone correct?
In Odin the .tar.md5 file is placed in the AP slot and passes verification too?
I have other odin tars available for download here too at top of OP in case your download is corrupt of something as well.

And do not remove md5 from filename, it is necessary to ensure file integrity check.
Yes it passes the check, then sometimes it doesn't go past SETUP CONNECTION and sometimes it goes to NAND WRITE START but then after one or two minutes it gives me the error saying WRITE OPERATION FAILED.
I am using SM-N920P but I suspect that it has a doctored Rom. Because there is no option of OTA update in the Settings, nor is there any Sprint bloatware, and even the Sprint's boot screen is not there. The theme store also gives error "country not supported" (because I'm not in USA). The Rom is not rooted. I suspect that the previous user of this device meddled with it and then removed root and every trace thereof. Maybe I'm over thinking though.
Tried a different cable? I know some phones have been getting corrupted partitions. Have you tried a factory reset from recovery to wipe data and user stuff, I think it might wipe internal storage too depending on recovery. A good idea to do it anyway.
Yes tried 3 different cables. Just did hard reset from recovery 2 days ago. Yes, and the hard reset function from the Settings app was failing after rebooting into recovery. Forgot what the error was but the recovery showed some error.
Does it tell anything?
i know this is kinda old but did you get this resolved?
I had to take it to a software shop. The guy flashed it correctly. He didn't tell the exact procedure but I think the procedure included something related to modem.

It might have occurred due to a non matching firmware, or due to a loose usb connector.
Ok thanks!

bricked s8+ trying to root

ive tried to root my s8+ following the step by step guide but now its a brick
i have never rooted before and tried it for the first time, everything seemed to be going correctly until i pressed wipe and swiped to confirm, i got error message unable to mount storage, now i have a continuous loop of samsung s8 logo
i have tried connecting to odin again and no joy.
is there any hope or is it for the bin ?
gutted
What model do you have? If it's a Snapdragon, they are locked down tight and not rootable. You may have just made a drink coaster....
i have model SM-955F
Download the stock ROM and download mode should be reachable, where you can then flash it

i need more information if possible ? i have no idea how to do it, its my first and probably last attempt at rooting
It's probably not binned, don't worry. Can you get into Download mode again?
- Press and hold the Bixby, Volume down and Power buttons together until you see anything on screen.
- When you see a warning screen, hit Volume Down to continue to download mode.

Come on man, if you had a snapdragon version, you can't root or even get that far.
yes i can get into the screen where it says downloading do not turn off
It does look like it's the usual snapdragon variant, yeah. You need the Exynos version for its unlocked bootloader, if you want root and whatnot.
Honestly unless you have specific reasons for root, you probably don't need it.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I don't miss it so far, but I can't speak for everyone else. I know Brava27 wouldn't dare.
Edit: Okay good. So the Stock ROM is basically the factory image always intended for your phone, from Samsung. You just have to find and download that, then flash it as usual via Odin.
PLEASE triple check around and do your research on whether this link provides you the right one, but here is a first-hit I found when searching for a stock rom for your model. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/sm-g955f-stock-odin-firmware-t3585022
brilliant thank you i will give it a try
does it unroot it also if i flash it back to stock and put knox back to normal or is that history now ?
That's right, it's completely stock, so it'd be like you got the phone fresh. It'll be unrooted if you get it working.
So that said, ensure your SIM is in the phone before you set it up, or it'll reset on you again when you insert it later.
I'm not sure what Knox's status would be and if the e-fuse has triggered... you'll know when you're powering on the device, I think. It's no real matter, unless you're concerned about warranty. In which case, you were going to stop caring about that right after attempting to root anyway.
I'm still not certain on what firmware file you want. Might want to search around for something that matches your carrier.
once you root knox is triggered forever, no way to use samsung pay or samsung health in stock not rooted firmware.

can you use them on rooted devices with knox triggered ?
No, I was not able to use Samsung Pay on my Note 5 after I tripped knox. It does some sort of security check on start-up of the app.
The bigger question is whether it "rooted" yet or not. With some luck, the e-fuse has not triggered yet and it's a clean device still.

yes with custom roms can be done or with some build.prop mods too.
So the snapdragon version is not rootable? Damn, I didn't know that.
woohoo somehow and i have no idea how i managed to get it working again and its rooted
couple of things though now its rooted
i have a security notice always popping up saying there is a problem with my phone and it needs repaired, how do i stop that ?
i found a post about changing a 1 to a 0 to get s health working but when i edit it and try to save it i get error read only file unable to save.
the main reason i wanted it rooted was to stop the annoying heads up display so i installed the noheadsup app which said it installed but i cannot see it on my phone anywhere to change the settings
also the battery drain , normally overnight it uses about 5% battery, last night 32% overnight
apart from that it all seems to be working as normal thanks to the help from people on here

For the "Security notice" try this:
root explorer go to /system/app/SecurityLogAgent delete folder
For "S-Health" to work, follow this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-s-health-devices-knox-t3543306
Good luck.
Totaly different sittuation but I think I have this right from what you say in this thread.
That Knox being tripped cant be reversed? and that Knox is a fuse so it cant be bypassed with otg cable backup?

Bricked Samsung S7

Good day everyone. I am totally new to this and on here but hope is something I came with and will always be a part of my beliefs.. I did flash my Samsung S7 SM-G930F a couple of times with different kind of custom ROMS and I guess I upgraded the bootloader by doing so... So now I was in TWRP mode and without thinking, I started to change the DATA format and immediately switched it off when I realized what exactly I'm doing and now it's stuck. It can switch on only with a charger and by force but I am capable of getting into download mode. I am trying to flash a stock ROM but it keeps on failing cause of the bootloader. When I use the PIT file, it shows successful though. But nothing more happens. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I don't own an S7 so maybe not much help.
From screen shot above try using Odin version 3.13.1 or higher.
Can you post a screen shot of download mode and Odin when it fails
If you can still get into download mode there should be a line saying AP SWREV: B:? K:? S:? or something similar.
The B:? is your bootloader version number. You will need to flash firmware with this number or higher.

Thank you for the response I managed to get it fixed. I used odin 3.14 instead and I wiped it with the NAND option and started from scratch. I used the pit file and flushed the bootloader first with repartition, then did the AP separete, and thats how I went on. After all, I'm back again. Thank you for trying, much appreciated.
