hi everyone my name is Cameron and i just joined XDA today
So last night i attempted to root my S7 model number: SM-G930A and i messed up. I'm new to all this but its interested me for a while now and i thought i would give it a shot. So at the moment my phone just goes through the boot loop and is useless. I've tried using Odin to install the original firmware for the device but when doing so i get this message:

Note: when i put in the AP file Odin acts unresponsive and takes several minutes to load this portion so i thought that was strange. I've tried using v3.10.7 and the newest 13 i think it was and no success. Could anybody shine some light on this for me?
thanks for your time guys
From what I could gather the latest is 3.12.7, so I'm not sure where you got 13 from. 3.12 and higher is required to flash the latest firmware so it makes sense it failed in 3.10. It freezes when you add the AP because it is verifying the checksum. Be patient, this software is an internal tool and not designed with user friendliness in mind. Try to get hold of version 3.12.7 and try again.

Is the G930A an AT&T device? If so doesn't it have a Locked Bootloader? If this is correct - Root isn't going to be available with Chainfire and no TWRP.
BTW - It always takes Odin several seconds to load the AP tar file.

Afaik all US S7 models (Snapdragon) have locked bootloaders, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile
G930A is a carrier-locked variant of the S7 (snapdragon), it's Bootloader cannot be unlocked thus root and custom recovery isn't possible. With the firmware, I suggest using the latest update of ODIN
Goodluck!

My phone just boots to the "Saumsung Galaxy Note II" screen and it is stuck there. I dont think its a loop because it doesnt loop (by that I mean it doesnt disappear and appear).
I m afraid using odin would erase everything.
I want to save my data, what should I do? Which rom do i use?
I tried downloading 3 to 4 note 2 roms but they all failed in odin.
Please specify what I need to download in order to save my data.
At this point, I am also ready to just give up and restore factory settings. I went to the at&t technicans, who are completely useless and they used their roms and couldnt help at all. I went to a fix phone place and they couldnt do anything either.
Please help!
Ummmm do you know that you posted this in the s6 forum and not the note 2?

i know but no one is capable of answering there.
Flash the stock Note 2 firmware on your phone via Odin. It should restore it to normal. Below are the stock firmware from Sammobile. Just pick the one from your country.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-N7100/
i tried the US version first.

You haven't said how this happened...
Did you flash a custom rom then it failed to boot?
Do you have custom recovery installed?
Tried odin on another computer or different USB port?
I had strange errors like that when I used a different usb cable. Went back to the genuine samsung one that came with the phone and it was ok.
Also, make sure Kies isn't loaded when you are trying to flash.
Your phone was stuck in boot screen. You could just have it factory wiped your or reset cuz the system files were corrupt and can't fully load... now that you may or may not have damaged the rom from flashing different flash file. Say good bye to your data... you have to search for the stock rom of your unit and search for tuts on how to use heimdall...
Sent from my HUAWEI P6-U06 using XDA Free mobile app
I downloaded various custom roms, all of which failed once this happened. I havent tried odin on a different computer and I only have one usb on my surface pro 3. I will try another computer.
I am using the original USB.
What do you mean Kies isnt loaded... I am using the Kies md5???
darqo, i am using the stock rom.
heimdall doesnt work either.
when installing the driver on zadig i only see the gadget serial and i dont see the samsung driver for me to update.
if it detects your device it can flash it use heimdall to fix your kernel preloaders and be sure to download the apropriate flash files.... some russian forums has lots of stock roms to choose from. what seems to be the usual error, is the first thing you must start with. dig on google for some tuts to resolve the error. in my case i disabled samsung kies. i only used its preloader drivers to detect my device. then used other software to fix it... i had that problem too with stuborn drivers. i used usbdeview to remove unwanted drivers the keeps bugging the program the instal the usb drivers from samsung kies program folder... you need a clean pit file for your device and fresh stock rom, a clean or fixed cache.rfs, dbdata.rfs to fix corrupted partitions of your unit...

Hello,
I downloaded a PDA from this guide on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/10-inch-development/odin-gt-p5100-4-2-2-stock-rom-t3022183
followed the instructions, but I forgot to see if ID:COM is turning blue, and it didn't, but I pressed start. I got this message on Odin:

Thank you, I tried all ports, didn't help.
I have no Kies installed, and about drivers: If Windows recognizes my P5100 (It appears on my computer and I can access the files) doesn't it mean that drivers are installed?
Perhaps it's the usb cable? I bought a cheap one from eBay after the original one broke (after a few years )
Thanks

Nope, it's not the USB cable since it shows at ID:COM in Odin 1.85.
Did you tried mount/unmount data from the custom recovery and then flashing from ODin?

Not yet because I've actually installed Andy's unofficial CM 13 (Android 6.x) and it's working quite well
*Edit: Is the 4.2.2 official JB from Samsung? I mean, why would they update such an old tablet after such a long time anyway?
**Edit 2: I went to TWRP recovery (2.8.7.2), and clicked Mount, I un-ticked the 'v' next to Data, but it didn't work. Also, after I restarted and went back to recovery I saw that there is a 'v' next to Data, as if it didn't really unmount anything? Why didn't it let me umount Data? (Or after restarting, it mounts it back?)

Samsung released JB for tab 2 long ago and that too they didn't bother to update for all the regions they shipped initially.
so we all flashed whatever region we got the JB firmware from.
close any other program running on your pc. absolutely no kies, no anti-virus.
try with different odin or use odin multi downloader 4 versions.
it should flash.
Hello everyone. I have an S8+ that is basically bricked and need to know if someone can help me repair it.
Please keep in mind while reading/replying that I am quite illiterate about thees things but tried to follow guides. I've reached a point now where I can find no guide to help me out of my problem, hence I turn to you:
Here is the situation: I root my Samsung Galaxy S8+ (Exnynos, SM-G995FD, Saudi Arabia) and all was fine, until I tried to encrypt the device. It failed and told me I needed to wipe my data, which it would fail to do with TWRP, and then go back to that same screen. Someone told me I may need to wipe and reinstall my system files, which I did successfully and all was fine again. I reinstalled Stock Android from an online download, and all was good.
Then I tried to reinstall TWRP recovery again. I think this is where I did something stupid. I suspect now that I already had the "stock android" in my recovery mode and I guess I can't just flash TWRP right over it. In any case, TWRP flashed but then nothing happens when I try to go to recovery mode, and the phone is stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy S8+ Powered by Android Screen."
So I though "Okay, I'll flash Stock Android back with Odin again." Nope, it won't work. I get a FAIL! from Odin every time. I tried to flash TWRP again, and same. Download mode still works on my phone, but Odin always fails. Recovery mode doesn't do anything at all ever since I tried to flash TWRP after the Stock Recovery mode was still there.
So now I have an S8+ with a not-working-at-all recovery mode, a download mode that fails to download anything, and a stuck boot screen if I don't do anything.
Can anyone please help me get my OS working again, preferably on a root? Thank you so much.

THANK YOU! Ive been at this for hours! I actually literally let that feeling of hopeless despair hit me because I couldn't think of anything else to do, and then I saw your post! I was about to do something stupid like try something with Pit files which I know would probably ruin my phone.
Okay now I have access to my S8 again, but now the question stands: How do I root it now? Can I just install TWRP and proceed as normal? The whole problem started at that stage last time. Can you just let me know what I can do now to get my root back?
Further note: Recovery mode works. It shows an android logo with blue background and then it says something like failed command I think and then the android looks dead. Then I was able to get to a menu that is black with options on top (reboot system now, reboot to bootloeder, etc.) and command-prompt like text on the bottom. Do I do anything here?
Sorry one more bit of info: So I tried to root like normal and I got the same problem of nothing actually being put onto the phone and it not booting anymore, but it reminded me that it actually boots into something new: a message thats says "Verification failed, unable to restart your device (something integrity something) ..."and a quare reset button at the bottom, but it takes me into a loop.
So I'm reflashing stock again, and would appreciate further instruction on how to root, because I can't seem to flash TWRP anymore without this happening. Thanks.
I think I'm onto something: Just based on searching it , it seems it may be connected to the encryption attempt. I no longer even have an option to "encrypt" my phone in the settings. Does that mean I have to decrypt it? Just trying to give ideas.
My baseband also ends in AQG5... don't know if that matters.

Okay stop . Ur doing this whole thing wrong
1.install the latest new firmware
2.install twrp and boot into twrp right away .
3.if you get mounting error do this > wipe format data
4. Flash no-dm verification zip 5.1 from twrp and reboot . Sometimes doesnt work first time so flash couple times till it works
5.flash magisk 13.3 to root .
6.enjoy

Sorry I've been in a bit of a panic. As I said, I really don't know what much of these terms mean. I just need a bit of clarification on your latest post:
1) What do you mean the latest firmware? Of stock android? That I already did. Of TWRP? I found one that loaded if thats what you mean.
2) What do you mean by mounting error (in Odin? TWRP?) and where is this "wipe data format" option?
3) How do I flash that no-dm verification file? By install it on TWRP? Should I just google that file name and download it?
Thanks so much!

Okay download the latest firmware from sammbile for Odin flash and flash through odin . Now boot back into odin and flash twrp recovery using odin . Now boot into recovery right away . Now when your booted into twrp go to wipe and press on format data at the bottom and type yes to confirm. Now flash a decryption zip file using twrp . And reboot . Now u should be able to boot and everything should work .
Ps. Im overseas now and internet is very bad . I cant really send you more detailed response . Just google "how to root s8" . You should be able to get full guid
Here is guid but bit out dated so look for new files https://www.technobuzz.net/root-samsung-galaxy-s8-and-s8/
Okay I tried to do the best I can waiting for your reply. I don't know what you meant by step one, as soon as flashed TWRP, I couldn't boot into it before it booted to the "verification failed" screen. I was able to boot into TWRP after that, it always says the same errors, mainly "failed to mount '/data' (invalid argument). It says that a few times at the start and again at the end. It says that whether I try to flash the "no-verify-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip" file (the closest file name I found to what you said), Magisk, or even if I try to format internal storage and SD card.
After every attempt I do have a "wipe cache/dalvik" option, which doesn't help as the same error comes again.
What can I do now? Also, should I flash stock android again to get out the failed verification bootloop? I do still have access to TWRP though.
Thank you! The "Wipe" did the trick. Everything is back to normal now. I really really do owe you one. I have nothing to repay you with except advise from us here in Saudi Arabia: Don't get caught up in this life. There is one true God and you should think twice before you consider there is no one above you, with expectations for you!
Thanks again.

You should hit the thanks button for him, not just say thanks alone, and for each post.. that's just to be polite since he helped.
And really just goto the twrp recovery thread and READ 1st and download everything u need before getting started. And in that thread u would find all the direction u need.
Very nice ending point, God Bless...
Will do. Some may not find it to be much a thanks, a man shares what he thinks is of value, hoping others can see it too (... even if it is really out of context such as tech related forum, lol)

I have the 935U firmware flashed to my sm-g935a AT&T phone. It is the Oreo version however and I believe I had to use a modified version of Odin at the time to flash it onto my phone. I'll go through my old bookmarks and notes and see what I can find regarding exact details and newer rom releases.
It sound like you did the same thing I did and just flashed your S7 with the official universal firmware which contains a lot less bloat. I flashed my phone almost exactly a year ago with my current oreo firmware.
I have the same question as well, is there an official way to root the snapdragon S7/S7 Edge from AT&T besides the crappy "engboot" workaround? Since it's now almost 2020? Do any modified versions of the "U" version rom exist for flashing onto the S7 Edge snapdragon models?
I have lots of questions and some research to do too mate, I'll keep you posted.

Please help! I want to install the phone.
My phone; Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) Exynos.
Stupidly tried to revert phone back to stock without doing enough research first! now phone seems to be bricked!. could have hard bricked it this time!!.
I started by first uninstalling root then thought it might be a good idea to use smart switch for first time to sort software out. really BAD IDEA now phone bricked. first time using smart switch
Now when I start phone all i get is,
( An error aoccured while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software)
but when i try and that all I get is " This function does not support your device" I wish trhey said that when I open the bloody software but it let me start !!!! now I can't get phone back.
I can get another screen which is ( Warning A custome OS can cause critical problems blar blar blar Press volume up key to continue or down to restart) screen. I tried to download a stock rom and use Odin to install it at that screen but it fails every time it sees it in odin and after applying all the lines and starting it it fails after img installing. Not sure I have right stock rom.
Can any one please help I need a link to this phones original stock rom so I can return it to its old self so i can update the software and then perhaps root it to remove bloatware.
I had [ROM][G930F/FD][ALEXNDR] * U8EUE1 * DevBase v7.4 installed worked ok untill i noticed an issue with net. it had really bad network speeds on both wifi and phone network so needed to revert it.
can anyone please point me in right direction to stock rom and perhaps give a detailed way out of this mess!.
I want to install my original stock rom and update it then root that rom and debloat it.
any help here would be greatfully recieved.
thanks

Would really appreciate some help on how to proceed I.
Hi, I don't know if this solution can help you. But it can give you a clue.
I think there is an Odin problem with the .lz4 compression format. You should unzip the official firmware packages, unzip them with 7-zip and pass them to .tar
Here you can see how to do:
In principle it should work.
You already know that when you do this kind of thing you have a risk. But you can try.

I fully understand and know what you mean I know its a bit risky but no worries buddy and thank you for replying very much appreciated I will certainley give that a try good idea. I was on the verge on buying a new phone any way so no loss really but it was a good little phone and would love to use it for my grand child for kids youtube. been way behind upgrades for some time now and was kind of coerced by family to join the dark side! because there are some benifits android just can't match and I'm missing out on with my grandkids
I bit my lip and bought the fruit from Eve :/ I'm now a sinner and traitor lol being a windows man like for ever .
again many thanks for your help I will update this thread to let you know the outcome fingers crossed cheers buddy
