[APP]Smart Stay Ex

Hi guys I found this app was up for beta testing here at XDA developed by elnoxvie, its similar to Smart Stay & works on GB ROMs too. I'm posting it here so that if any there are any compatibility problems with our handset it could be ironed out by the developer.

The app is out of Beta & is available at the Play store. I have done beta testing for the app with my stock GB ROM, it was working fine & Galaxy R has been granted support. But it may not work on some custom ROMs.

I can only hear Stupid camera clicks and the screen goes off even if i am watching it.

You'll have to report yourself cause he may try to understand your problem & ask you submit logs which only you can do.
So I'll request everyone to post your observations after testing it in the original thread as it'll help the developer in making it fully compatible with our device.

Ehhh !! i installed this app, but how do i know whether this is working or not, i can only hear camera clicks !!

I've installed it for some minutes. I think that you need to restart the phone after installing the app, but, first, enable the boot option inside it.
I suppose that those clicks are real photos been taking by the phone, I also hear it... just a bug. The app is trying to analyze the face and it's searching for the eyes.
If you want to try it, set the display timeout to 15s (in phone's settings), turn on your room's light and put the mobile to a reasonable distance from your face, you'll see that it doesn't switch off the screen, after this, just leave it far from you and, if everything is ok, it should go to sleep in some seconds.
The software need to mature a lot, it consumes tons of CPU time and, eventually, it starts to eat all the ram and CPU, leaving your phone in a semi-freezed mode, I was able to restart it but took some time.
Besides that, it did its function, it kept the display on while I was watching at it, and afterwards it put it to sleep.

By sending a log you are sending some sensitive information to this app's developer. I think this is how it's done though I'm not 100% sure:
- First download & install the new v1.4 of the app.
- Now start /open the app, after clicking on 'OK' lock your device once by pressing the lock key.
- Now click on 'Send Logs' in the app. It'll ask you to download & install a log collector app so install it & open it.
- Next Tick 'Debug' and go through the process of running the app when you are facing the front Cam with some distance between you & your front Cam so as to let it try to detect your face. Now let it run once when you do not face the front Cam.
- Next Click on Send logs once again then click on OK.
- It'll then allow you to Email the log to this app's developer.
- If the app works then don't send the logs.

Interesting app, but it fails to recognize in landscape mode. Also uses too much cpu, and phone lags while shooting images.

It does work in landscape mode AFAIR but it's hard to keep your face in the field of view of the front camera in the landscape mode.
Yep you are right about others except the lagging part but that can vary from person to person.

The app is working, however, the shutter sound is very annoying. Just imagine when you fall asleep and suddenly hear that noise.

There's an option to turn off the shutter sound but it's a temporary fix as it switches the handset into 'Silent' mode for the duration of the shutter sound which affects others functions of the handset as well.

This is just a little app i wrote to annoy someone, and i may as well share it, Since i am using this to gain experience please let me know of any bugs, and i will try and fix them. (Please share a screenshot of the problem if its a cosmetic bug)
The app will update automatically, it will ask for you to download the new APK.
The Biggest bug at the moment is loading in contacts, It does work if you press the menu button and click import wait a minute and it will work. Always click "wait" it does work, and it only has to be done once it saves it after this.:fingers-crossed:

[MOD] Spotify tablet mode

Good evening!
If you're reading this, then you for sure know what Spotify is. We all love listening to music and, ugh, that's the synonym of Spotify!
Unfortunately, this work could be used for two fully opposite reasons, one of which is against the XDA rules, so I had no other choice but to close this thread (and remove links). I hope you understand me and sorry for the inconvenience.
Feel free to read the history below. It was a fun ride!
Time ago, the app landed on our lovely Android platform for both tablets and phones and honestly who wasn't excited?
Soon after, forced shuffle mode and limited number of skips were also introduced and I agree that there must be a reason to purchase Premium after all. Luckily, this restriction was not enabled on tablets, but a problem that appears is that far from all tablets are detected as ones - mainly the "smaller" ones. This [bug/miss-code] activates the restriction on your tablet, and as a fix was needed from either side, here was my solution.
This mod was created for all those "small tablets" that are incorrectly recognized so that you can use Spotify the way it was meant to be used.

MEGA is never down, it only needs the app for android if you want to download from phone. That's the reason I personally won't mirror.
About installing, you need to have "Unknown sources" enabled in your Security settings. Then just open the APK and install it as normal. If you still can't figure it out check YouTube for thousands of tutorials.

I've downloaded the apk for mega, and also tried to access the website. But it refuses to open the website or allow me to login to the app. Hence the servers are actually down. Op if possible can u post it on a different cloud?. Thank you for this amazingly brilliant apk!

Op u can as well check again, it's no longer a news that mega is down for now. You see people testifying. You can check up urself

@ViRb3 It doesn't work on gingerbread android again...
I think it's a problem of apk version because on Google play it was written that the version varies with device.
So please If you give me your email, I'll send the last apk version of spotify compatible with gingerbread to you.

OP I could possibly kiss you all day and it wouldn't be enough. Worked like a charm.
Also the server seemed to be down only in parts around the world. So anyone being unable to connect simply use a VPN. Works perfectly with a VPN.
Though it is currently up again.

Absolutely not. I am not "hacking" Spotify and making it Premium-free and that will never be my aim. I am just making it possible to run in tablet mode on smaller tables.

I am on the latest Whatsapp Beta. When a notification comes via the bubble below issues :
1) profile image doesnt load and shows blank for all people
2) When i click the bubble (expected a small resizable mini window to chat ) but nothing happens. when i click the bubble goes and nothing happens no mini window or anything
Running AOSP based Exodus Rom based on MM 6.0.1 r46.

Anikev, thanks for the feedback! As for your reports:
1) As stated in the app's description, a limitation in WhatsApp does not allow WhatsBubbles to obtain profile pictures in all situations. In those cases, the username's first letter will be used as a placeholder.
2) I haven't yet received reports from anyone experiencing this problem, very strange. When you tap the bubble nothing happens? What do you mean by "the bubble goes"?
I have not tested the WhatsApp beta. Perhaps it's a problem related to that.

Thanks Rodrigo for your reply. Your app is very good. I just tested on a friends phone and yes you are right. As I am using Whatsapp Beta, the bubble vanishes when i click on it to reply. But on regular Whatsapp it works perfectly. Kudos and cheers for your work.
In the near future i wish that you make this compatible with Whatsapp beta also as i cannot move out of WHatsapp beta. i want to stay on it. but take your time and bring to beta users.
And the limitation u mentioned of fetching profile pics is fine. I dont mind about it. but still fetching the first letter is a very neat feature.

Google Camera 6.1.009 and newer camera thread

This thread is a starter for the GCAM devs to hopefully provide us a working GCAM for the essential phone based on the new update. As of right now, you need to be on P at a minimum.
YOU NEED TO HAVE LOGCATS FOR HELP How to LOGCAT 101
You can also use a ondevice logcat tool, like matlog. I clear matlog, start it, directly create my problem, go back to matlog, stop it, then sort by "CAM" in this case, so i can see all camera related errors, then save it.
The idea is this.... all of the major gcam devs have the OP6 or something that isn't the essential phone. If we politely tag them, and have a logcat in hand, perhaps we can get support quicker for our device.

Here are logs:
1. Slomo crash. Slomo worked on test3, as long as we patch media profile, it works in general
2. No ability to take picture with hdr off
3. Taking a picture with zoom
I know these are already issues by in large. Maybe my logs will help.

The only things I find right now as "bugs" I guess is there is no lens button in more tab. Might be a us problem, but I'm not quite sure how to figure out if it's there or not.

I'm curious if you have seen/looked at this before - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/themes/magisk-google-camera-telephoto-lens-t3767531 It's a mod for the Xiomi Mi A1 to be able to use the 2nd rear camera (telephoto) with Google Camera. I haven't tried it yet, kind of afraid to bootloop since it appears specific to the A1 phone. But was curious if what they've done can help get the monochrome camera working on Gcam and other apps in a similar way.
I know you (I think?) had discussed the challenges and limitations of this when asking Essential for support in an AMA in July/August in which Essential basically said "no." But wasn't sure if anything done with the A1 is different than what you've tried.

I spoke to cstark about this with the Nokia 8 ages ago and the basic idea was that if the secondary camera doesn't show up in camera identifier in the Camera2test app then there's literally no way to make this work.

Thats what ive come across as well. Im just curious though.... How is it hidden from apps like this. I know in build.prop there is a aux cam white list for apps. but ive tried adding all the package names...nothing. What are we missing, how does klik camera turn it on....

Finally good slow-mo recordings *with* sound available.
Photobooth still mysteriously crashes when first shot is processing.

I still can't get any of these apps to quick launch from a locked ascreen with the power button shortcut. I'm just getting an error message about permissions. Is anyone else getting this or is it something I have installed that's causing the problem?

I logcatted it. Doesn't tell me much of anything unfortunately. Like what permission it wants perhaps.

Happens on my device too. It actually didn't back when using some of the first Arnova8G2's 6.1.x builds (sorry I can't remember which exact versions).
There is a *partial* solution to launching it from lockscreen - wether it is actually locked or not - by simply having the app in memory.. But that's obviously far from ideal.
Was gonna try to gather some (hopefully) helpful logs but.. :

It's really weird.
Using SystemUI Tuner, I can also confirm the very same thing happens when swiping the corresponding lockscreen shortcut.
(OT : By the way, don't know why they were originally removed since adding back phone & camera shortcuts does make the bottom messages corresponding to the targetted function : "swipe right to make a call" & "swipe left to open camera".. something like that anyways)

I can confirm that Photobooth crashes on my PH-1 too. Can anyone provide a logcat to Arnova8G2?

Thank you for this! Much better than the stock essential phone app. Makes my essential that much better.
