Need help w/root - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

So I just purchased the Honor 8 and I have been trying to root it because I'm not a fan of the lack of options that were available on my Nexus 6p. However everything I have tried with adb, twrp, kingroot and nothing works. I'm not that advanced with root knowledge (yes I still want to root). To be honest I'm at the point where I would pay someone to chat online with step by step instructions during the rooting process! I'm just so frustrated.

A little more information would help, what model are you on (FRD/ Al??), which firmware.
Essentially though, update device via OTA, unlock bootloader, flash TWRP via adb then root( flash SuperSU via TWRP).
There are several guides for all these steps available.
It is however essential that you use the proper TWRP and SuperSU found in the development section.
Unfortunately there is no root method for locked bootloaders

Guide :fingers-crossed:

The model is FRD-L04, build FRD-L04C567B385, EMUI version 5.0

If your bootloader is unlocked get your TWRP and SuperSU/Magisk from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71265571&postcount=1
and flash it.
For everything else you need to be a little more specific as to what problem you have exactly

ok so my issue is that after I flash twp and try to reboot phone it sends me to the device is unlocked and cant be trusted screen. it only lets me go to the OS or huawei erecovery and not TWRP. if it boots into the os and I try to go to recovery it wont boot into any recovery

So I finally got my device rooted but now my question is, does anyone know of a ROM that works for the FRD-L04 model? I'm wanting to install some different themes but can't seem to do it without a ROM. Not to mention most of the cool things you can do on a rooted device need one as well. Any idea's?

Rooting the TF300TG

Hello, I own a TF300TG which mounts 4.2.1 android version, 10.6.2.11 fw.
I'm trying to root it with SRS root (eset32 detected it as trojan, btw) but it keeps failing.
VROOT doesn't even install on my PC (i don't know why, it's written in chinese).
how can I obtain root privileges?

The easiest way is to unlock your bootloader, install a custom recovery like TWRP and then flash the SuperSU ZIP from that recovery.
Make sure you double-check that you picked the right recovery version for your bootloader.

I've found some threads linking to twrp but the link shared in them refer to the tf300t, not tg. I mean this. Is it the same? I'm worried about bricking my device, because it isn't only mine
so where can I get the correct files to download for my tablet?
sorry if Iook like a noob but my phone was waaaaaayyyy easier to root...

Yeah, it is tricky to pick the right recovery version with all those incompatible bootloaders and the new KitKat ROMs needing yet another one to flash properly.
There are other options for rooting, search for motochopper and similar tools, but personally I don't regard them as simple and some of them have been reported to contain malware.
To help you find the right recovery version, first need to know the version of your bootloader. You can find it at the top left of the bootloader screen. The interesting part are the numbers starting with 10. or 9. for really old ones. Then need to know, what ROM you want to root. Using stock Asus ROM?
You can safely use a recovery for TF300T; it is much more important to pick the right version for your bootloader.

I've found this guide (-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617298) which seems pretty good, but the version reported working is WW_epad-10.6.2.10, while mine is 10.6.2.11-20131213
what do you suggest me to do? Go ahead and try it or hope one day a more specific version will be released?

The guide looks good to me and should work fine for your boot loader.
Instead of the attached TWRP, you can safely use any TWRP for the TF300T, as long as it has -42 in the name. 2.6.0.0 might be a little buggy, not sure.

Just to confirm that i have TF300TG with JB 4.2.1 and my bootloader is 10.6.2.11 and i have used the link that you quoted in this reply (this) and all work for me just fine.:good:
Kingo (google it) apparently works. so if you dont want to unlock the bootloader and whatnot, try that.
thanks for your answers, first I will try kingo and if it doesn't work I will try the method on the link I posted!

Does This CF-Auto Root Trully Works ON G930T

guys i want to root my phone on the fast and very simple way possible.
found this root method on https://autoroot.chainfire.eu
this is the link for the root method https://download.chainfire.eu/982/C...Auto-Root-heroqltetmo-heroqltetmo-smg930t.zip
i did not tryed it my self yet. but if theres a user that rooted their phone that way, let me know.
bump
I don't think this will work unless we get our Bootloader unlocked (which hasn't been done yet as far as i know)
UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will usually automatically "OEM unlock" and wipe your data !
this is kind of lame.... why chainfire release a auto root if the thevice have bootloader locked down? and onlockable?
Confused myself
I want to say root is possible, there are tons of sites with instructions: https://www.google.com/search?q=SM-...i57j0j69i60.9343j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Of course, XDA doesn't seem to have a specific G930T thread for rooting with instructions, then see threads like this today. I was all set to give it a try, but unsure if should proceed...
Did find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/help/sm-g930t-root-doesnt-void-warranty-t3415936
EDIT: so the one linked in original comment was the bleeding edge root process and seems like had a really high failure rate. Most current I've seen is: http://lifeatsamsung.com/root-t-mobile-galaxy-s7-sm-g930t-2/
Seems a little more clean cut and easy. I'll edit again if I find a newer solution or at least commentary on success/fail
In comments OP posts:
Yes I am planning to make a video tutorial.
Also I used the method provided here (this is Max Lee's website)

So the solution and all the fixes, etc is right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
Worked for me, no problem. Even installed the debloated, deox'd ROM. Unfortunately after root you will need to follow rest of guide, otherwise you will see some lag issues.
On the other side of it, phone is great, fast, if not faster than before, and got root. Let me know if you would like some screenshots proving a TMO phone is rootable or if can answer any questions

So what does this mean in layman's terms. Can I root the device safely with full functionality or not? Are there plans to get a rooted bootloader? And what does this mean because I thought the TMO version had a qualcom processor...

This means that the only rooting method right now isn't as stable as it would be if it had a unlocked bootloader the root right now will cause some issues but they can easily be fix from some of the steps after rooting guides that are in the xda forums and yes it using a Qualcomm processor Witch is pretty much the snapdragon and there hasn't been any luck this past year of getting the bootloader unlocked for full and smooth rooting I'm really ****ty at explaining sorry if your still lost
The Chainfire method he released does NOT work. I'm not sure why he released it...maybe he knows of a future bootloader unlock that we don't know about.

@KillerClaw321 I am at the machine now and have tried running CMD in admin mode. Still no joy. What are the beat adb drivers to use for AMD machine? Maybe the drivers are the problem? What else can I try? I am on PK1 as the phone is new from the store yesterday and a fresh shipment to them the day before.
I also see a DM verification verify failed dialogue at the bottom when i try the factory reset. No DRK

[Q] Root/Bootloader procedure

Just acquired a Sprint S5 with 6.0.1 and PH3 firmware. I've never had a Sprint device before, I've always used Verizon. What's the procedure for root/bootloader on Sprints version?
You can root the G900P on PH3 with CF-Auto-Root. It WILL trip Knox if not already tripped.

The correct version of CF-Auto-Root to use is available at https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ - just search for G900P. It says the build ID is for PCA but it also worked perfectly for me on PH3.

Can't I just Odin twrp and install SuperSU through recovery? I'm new to sprint phones, thanks for the help.
CF-Auto-Root installs a version of SuperSu as described by Chainfire at the link in my first post. I suppose you could install TWRP with Odin but I don't think SuperSu will be of any use without root. I'm not really an expert.
Twrp will install the binary on its own, it will say supersu not detected, you'll need to install the apk/app of su. Unrooted ever? Interested to know if the new magisk works for galaxy s5
Sorry to piggy-back, but is there any type of process for unlocking the bootloader? Is the bootloader already unlocked on these phones? I've seen conflicting posts, but they're all old.

Well, if no one knows I'll give you guys an update when I try it.
Well. We're going to have to wait a bit longer. The eBay listing for it said it was in "very good condition" and was described as having minor scratches on the sides of the phone. When I got it, it looked like this: http://imgur.com/a/qfywD
I powered it on anyway, thinking maybe I could fix the power charger tab, and put a tempered glass protector on it to cover up the weird issues with the glass. That was, until I tried the capacitive buttons, which didn't work. No lights on them either. Now I'm waiting for the seller to respond to my return request. Friggen rip-off.

Ouch, looks like it needs a new digitizer. I recommend Swappa instead of ebay.
I had a good experience with ubuyrite or something like that, let me return an s4 that wasn't to my liking, then let me return I t for full price when I wanted an s5
Ok, so I got my new S5, upgraded to PH3, then downloaded CF-Auto-Root from here: https://download.chainfire.eu/408/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-kltespr-kltespr-smg900p.zip
I already had adb configured, so I enabled developer options, then used adb to reboot to the bootloader (download mode). Drivers were auto detected on Windows 10. I opened the bundled version of Odin in the auto-root folder and flashed the bundled tar.md5 file. After the reboot I had SuperSu installed and working. Rebooted back into download mode, then did the same process to flash the TWRP 3.0.2-0 tar from the TWRP website. I'm currently doing a backup and we'll see if I get a working ROM installed today.

I do have experience flashing phones. I don't need help with adb and fastboot.
I am just confused at to what exactly TWRP is? Is that the recovery? What should I flash to my phone?
Either way, I just want to root my phone and install a custom rom to it...but I don't see many or any custom roms except for TWRP...so really just want root above all else
Please tell me what I need to do and in what order...lol.....thank you

TWRP is custom recovery. It's still in beta.
As far as I know, there are no custom roms. 8.1 is too new and they are still working on things.
Root with Magisk. Plenty of how to threads.

TWRP actually just came out of beta with 12/12 Walleye(12/14 Taimen) build, hopefully there will be some custom roms soon... You can use the Skipsoft Android toolkit to root, unlock, flash twrp etc. Or do it manually following guides here on XDA under development section https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/development, ADB has been updated so make sure to have the latest platform tools.
Currently theres no custom ROMs at all for Pixel 2.
TWRP is a recovery.
Rooting is pretty straight-forward I studied these 2 articles/thread:
http://highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-root-pixel-2-or-pixel-2-xl-easiest-method/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/how-to/guide-unlock-flash-root-pixel-2-walleye-t3702417
The kind of confusing part is when you want to change custom kernels and update TWRP.
As the recovery, kernel and root stuff all play around in the same partition now.
Read around the forum, since you got experience you will figure it out.

Oh..so the android system error always happens? Ok..it does not seem to affect anything.
I used the Skipsoft package, which does all the things. Couple snags, it only wanted to accept the beta of magisk.
I'm thinking I got it all right now. I will report back if I find a problem

Pretty sure that is the same for everyone according to the reading I've done. I'm looking to do the same with mine. What method did you use? Any snags?

So rooting your Pixel 2 will invariably trigger this error message on boot, for any user?
Are there other undesirable side effects to rooting your Pixel 2 at the moment?
Thanks

Moto One 5G Ace Rooted with TWRP using stock Firmware

First of all, I am not a dev and this write up contains steps used by various devs to achieve fulll root. For some, these steps have worked out well. But, not for me. I had issues with some of the steps not fully working as they should, so I did some research until I could piece together something that worked for me. Here's what I did and managed to get fully rooted using the boot.img from the stock firmware after doing all the steps from this link Articul8Madness's Rooting Guide and couldn't get full root access even after using the steps from this link Articul8Madness's Guide for R/W Access. As I have said, these steps worked for most people. I wasn't one of them.
I followed the steps up to the step where the boot.img is modded by Magisk. This is where I omitted using the modded boot.img and used the original boot.img from the stock firmware and I then ran the flashfile script as mentioned in the steps. After everything was applied I then, rebooted the phone, started setup, disabled System Updates, and I then proceeded to install TWRP using the steps from this link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1KZ0xhstQ9V_7TYt3xs7P5XdroYX61CEA after opening Minimal ADB and Fastboot applying these scripts
adb reboot fastboot
then apply this
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.5.2_10-kiev.img
I then rebooted into recovery and installed TWRP to all available partitions. I then installed Magisk, enabled Systemless Hosts in settings, and rebooted. Afterwards, I used the steps here Munjeni's RW in Super Partition Tool to get RW in super partitions after downloading and using superrepack. I had omitted the ./superrepack /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/super system_a in order to have it applied to all available partitions. Everything worked out great. I then rebooted, updated Magisk, installed Root Checker and Root Explorer with Superuser root access. I then installed Adaway from https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway and clicking on the Get It On AdAway image. Anything that requires root access here on out, can now be installed. As for the SafetyNet issue, I have not had any problem with it at all even though the check had failed. All is now working well and I sincerely hope that this guide will help others as it have helped me. I may have done this write up but, all credits goes to the true devs.
Time for devs to start making custom Roms now that TWRP can be installed.
Your first link doesn't work for me. The Adaway link works. FYI.

Sorry, but you will have to ask one of the Devs in the links that I've provided in the OP. Perhaps they are more suited to help with that.

Linux will work fine. All the commands required are done thru a terminal session. Use a text editor to get the long unlock code from the phone.
Good luck.
Ok about terminal. I used cmd , but bootloader cannot be unlocked official way nor at&t unlockable coz i don't live in usa.I will try 3rd party helpers.

You did a fantastic job. This worked perfectly. Some notes:
1) You must install the Motorola device driver in Windows. Doesn't work with leftover drivers that seem to communicate just fine with the phone.
2) You have to unlock the bootloader via Motorola's website if it is locked. Key step not communicated: when you enter in the code to unlock at the computer with a fastboot command the phone will ask you to confirm that you want it unlocked. If you don't look at your phone and answer the question it will time out.
3) When you boot into TWRP it will ask for a password if you have a screen lock set. The password is your screen lock. No big deal.
4) Once you are in TWRP install the Magisk Zip file and let it do its magic.
5) Enjoy a fully unlocked stock firmware. It's awesome.
Thanks again.

Sorry for the late reply. I really haven't decided yet if I'll update to Android 11. I would imagine it'll be rooted in the same manner. If I could get ahold of the US version, I may give it a shot.

I've update to android 11 and am continuing to use your version of twrp but it's off a little bit in terms of the partitions it loads. Seems to work otherwise.

I don't have an answer for that at this time since I'm still on 10. That'd be too much like a blind man in a desert looking for shade and telling another which way to go.
Greetings, I have a few questions. re the Moto G 5G (One 5G Ace)
I've not found a TWRP for this phone yet which were you using?
In other phones it was important to backup the IMEI (EFS ) and 'persistent' partitions. Do we not do that with this phone as well?
Thx in advance
Sorry for the late reply. I used this version of TWRP twrp-3.5.2_10-kiev.img. As far as the IMEI (EFS) question, it wasn't required when using this root process. However, you can back those up if you like.
