Battery on new Gear s2 classic - Samsung Gear S2

Hello, I just bought a gear s2 classic. And I updated the firmware. Now the battery life is not good at all. I mean is it normal at the begginning, until it gets stabilized or is this a bad unit? Thanks in advance!

I have had the same thing happen with 2 replacements. I waited a week on the first one and it didn't get better. (went from 100 to 50 percent over night) so I exchanged it. The second settled in after 3 or so days. I think this firmware version uses more battery though.

I don't have a problem like that with mine. In fact I took mine off the charger Friday morning before work. I was wearing a motorcycle jacket so I put it in a jacket pocket when I left work until I got home that evening. I forgot to take it out of the jacket pocket and put it on the charger until Monday morning. It was still up and running with 16% power. Mind you the watch was not in use the whole weekend but it kept its charge much better than I expected. I put it on the charger in the morning and just didn't wear it that day.

Mine isn't much better than my S7 Edge (if it even is). Still lasts the day though.

I can't get through half a day. I haven't really used the watch either. Charged it back to 100% before the gym. Used it just for HR with S health. After the gym I'm down to 20%. That doesn't seem right at all. Gps is off. 4g is off. Wifi is off. Screen was set to 5 minutes because it'd be nice to actually see my HR while I'm working out. I don't understand why the screen doesn't stay on during a workout. 8nc9nstantky have to tap the screen when it goes to AOD every five minutes.
I did just update the firmware yesterday so it has two more days before getting sent back. Between this and the Bluetooth issues on my Chromebook Plus, I am not too happy with Samsung at the moment. For the first time since I left my Treo for their flip palm phone I don't have a Samsung phone. I'd this keeps up, I'll have zero Samsung in the stable.

Testament to Gear S2 (Non 3G) Battery Life.

To anyone concerned with the battery life, or anyone complaining about their S2's Battery, for me this thing is amazing on battery and is consistantly everyday.
I slap it on every morning between 7:30 and as of right now (5:36 PM) I'm at 87%.
Pretty crazy, that's less than 2% an hour.
Brightness on 2.
WiFi & NFC off.
Tons of notifications coming through.
Paired to a BT headset with music playing.
Motion sensor on.
Talk to start SVoice on.
Attached is a screenshot I litterally just took at 5:35 on my watch. I honestly couldn't ask for more when it comes to battery life.
I'm coming here from a Pebble which has outstanding battery life. It was a concern. However, after I turned off WiFi and NFC (which I never use) its great. Put it on at 6:30am and now at 7:30pm I have 83%. I'm wearing it all night and seeing how that works. If I get 2 solid days I'm satisfied.
(Following day) Wore it all night and its now 3:30pm and I still have 64% battery left. Conceivably I could get another day out of it but I won't. Killing wifi, NFC, and anything else I don't really use makes a difference along with sitting brightness at 5. Still see it outside so that's good.
Yeah, but a pebble is a whole different beast, eReader display vs full color amoled lol.
The pebble gave people high battery standards for smartwatches, but the pebble and the Gear S2 are apples and oranges.
Of all the Gears I've owned this thing kicks ass as far as battery life and is your far the best looking, hopefully it's a good transition for you!

My experience with the Pebble:
I take my watch off every night. With my Pebble I'd set it next to my bed each night and every few days put it on my charger overnight. But here's the problem with that... I don't have the habit of charging and the battery life is so long I'm never sure how much battery life I have left. Did I charge it 2 or 3 days ago? Do I need a charge tonight? I better check. Oh, I'm down to 20%, I need to remember to put it on the charger tonight. I better not forget (which I did occasionally).
It's actually simpler with the Gear S2. Take it off each night, put it on the dock. I'm confident it will make it through the day, even with heavy use. I'm never thinking about the battery life on it because the easy to use dock and solid battery life ensure I develop an easy habit of charging with no concern about making it through the day.
7 days would be great, don't get me wrong. There are times when it's just not convenient to use a charger every night. But for my typical day to day use the S2 is doing great.

Pebble users: Try to find "weather db" watch face. It has all info you needed. Battery info, weather info, calendar, lunar calendar... included prediction time-use-left.
Work with all pebble version, with or without time version...

Verizon battery optimization update....anyone received it?

I see that tmo and att people are getting the small battery optimization update. I'm Verizon and haven't gotten the update; has anyone on Verizon gotten it? I really want to get this update.
On Verizon. Have not gotten the update. But if I don't soon, then I am returning this thing - the battery was ok on day 1, but it only seems to have gotten worse the more I use it.
Maybe I have high expectations, but if I pull the watch off the charger at 7:00AM to go to work, use it moderately for notifications and maybe a 3G call or two, then home by 5:30PM, turn on GPS and go for a jog, the battery is dead by 6:30PM in the middle of my run! If that's what I can expect... then this watch serves no purpose for me.
I should be able to actually USE the watch somewhat during the day, and have juice left when I get home. I would be fine if, after a day of moderate use including a 1-2 mile GPS run, the battery was ready to die by 10-11PM. But 6?? C'mon...
I haven't gotten one either but my software version is R730VVRU1AOJ6. I assume yours is the same. From the software versions that people have on other versions on the S2:

I hear you on the poor battery life on my first two days. I never use 3G because it was never activated, so I have everything turned off except the Bluetooth connection to connect to my phone. I did a factory reset on it and I noticed a better battery life. The watch actually did not die that day with light to moderate use. I made a couple of quick calls, responded to some texts, and messed a little with Mr. Time Maker app and it was 22% this morning. I'm bringing this one back today for a replacement because the bezel is loose/flimsy.
I have the same version. If what you say is true about Verizon and updates... then I'll be returning this watch. Not worth the price tag.

I couldn't agree more! If I happen to be on 3G and remotely connected my battery drops at a rate of 10-20% per hour. that's absolutely unacceptable
I sincerely hope that we have not already received the update because my battery life is nowhere near what they advertise. Ours still has a "j" in the software version (aoj6) and the update puts others at "l" (aol3) so....I'm hoping that since "l" is after "j" that we just haven't gotten the update yet

I believe you are correct about the letters. I am still running some test on battery life via different connection modes (ATT - AOL3) but my preliminary results on 4G suggest something close to 10% per hour with ~2.5 bars (-110dbm) cell tower signal strength on average. The life of the battery will be completely dependent on the signal stregnth. I can also confirm that if you go to an area with no signal you will kill the battery at an alarming rate (having calculated it yet but I would guess around 20% per hour).
Anyone from Verizon get this yet? I see lots of people have gotten it but I'm still waiting....

I hope we didn't already get it because my battery life has not improved. We are on AOJ while the update should move to AOL
I have to say I am happier with the battery life than I was when I first got the watch. I'm not sure the cause of the increased battery performace, but I know I was toying around with the watch a ton when I first got it, trying to set it up, get familiar with it, apps, etc.
Today I am currently 4 hours off the charger and still have 85%. I have been remotely connected (phone left at home) for the full 4 hours, BT on, wifi on, GPS off, brightness set to 2, I have sent multiple texts from the watch, and I am constantly receiving gmail and hangout notifications.
Last Friday I took the watch off the charger at 8AM and used it pretty constantly all day, including GPS on for a 2 mile run (I also left GPS on after that accidentally most of the day).
I gotta say my battery is doing pretty good too after I got my new device, factory reset, and configured. I took the watch off the charger at 630am EST. I haven't used the watch much besides answering a couple of texts and checking the time. I'm on 90% at 1:33pm EST. Everything is off except bluetooth. This has been the best day of battery life so far I'm very satisfied although the new charger is making a high pitch noise when the watch is charging. I'm gonna have to have Verizon exchange that for me. Still no battery optimization update though. I wonder how much better it can get.

Is Yours the 3g? If so, that's amazing battery life. Mine is the 3g. Took mine off charger at 6am and was down below 90% at 9am. I'm averaging a drop of 4-5% per hour. (That's bt, if I go on mobile with a remote connection I drop much faster)

Yeah it's 3g. In reality we're going to be charging it every night. These batteries are better when they are charged anyways. As long as it gets me through the day I'm happy. I'm on 69% now with light use (answering some texts; checking notifications when they come, no email though I'll go crazy; checking the time; and made 3 calls). Not bad.

It's off, everything in settings is off except Bluetooth. I turned off the SHealth auto HR and alerts too.
Just talked to technical support about the update.
After talking with a nice Verizon rep she confirmed that the verizon we all have is the most current. We still haven't gotten the update that added the screen timeout options, notification light or any other new stuff. She also didn't have a date for me but said that the battery life I'm getting is abnormal. She suggested exchanging it for a new one as I'm still within my grace period. I also asked about the 5.1.1 update for my note 4 and she said it was definitely in the pipe to happen but no date sadly.
My experience has been a declining battery life since day 1, today I took it off the charger at around 7AM and it's not 10:30PM and I have 28%. I turned 3g off today to see if it would help, responded to 2 texts, and barely touched it other than that. I have wake command on and brightness is set around 3 with auto dimming and whatnot.
I'm honestly not looking for a full 2 days of battery life, it would be amazing to get some use out of it, maybe go for a 3-4 mile run using 3g and listen to some music and whatnot then go to sleep and wake up and go for it again the next day but realistically it wont happen in this version, maybe the next one.
Will report back after I swap it. Just though you all might want an update.

Great watch, awful battery (frontier LTE)

With NumberSync on, the frontier only seems to last around 9 or 10 hours on a full charge OVERNIGHT meaning I'm not doing a thing on it. Wifi is off, location is off, Bluetooth is off and obviously the screen is off. This is going to be my second day on it but unfortunately I won't be wearing it because the watch was pretty much dead when I woke up prior to work this morning. Will report back but unfortunately this isn't what I expected.

With Bluetooth off and WIFI off then the watch is using cellular to stay connected. This is probably the heaviest battery drain of all types of connection (verses BT & WIFI). Make sure cellular is also turned off or allow the watch to use BT or WIFI to stay connected.
When numbersync first rolled out for the LG Watch Urbane 2 on AT&T it was a battery hog. Could be that there are some growing pains to go thru with numbersync on Gear S3. Also, I have had my T-Mobile Gear S3 now for 3 days and each charging cycle I seem to get better mileage. I run BT on, WIFI off, always on screen, Mobile connect auto. First day very bad battery life (plus I was using it a lot) about 6+% drain per hour. During my last charge cycle I was able to use it for almost 2 full days about 3% drain per hour. Just gave it a charge this morning and so far am seeing a little over 2% drain per hour. I believe it will settle in nicely after a few more charge cycles.
Had me worried for a second there until Bladder61 explained why your battery drained so fast. This will be my first LTE connected watch [2 BT only devices in the past]. I see that leaving home for a couple of days without my phone isn't what these devices were designed for.
Mine is at 90%. On TMO though... Took it off charger around 8am. Lots of calls and notifications
So which connection setting would be best for battery conservation, WiFi or Bluetooth at at home? Obviously I'd go stand alone when I'm out and about

Nvm I'm going to quote myself and say I'm a dummy for not reading above
T-Mo LTE version here. Took mine off the charger last night at 0200. It's 2137 now and I'm at 34%. Not much use today except for some texting.
Yesterday I used it to listen to music during a 40 minute walk as well as load some music onto the Gear. Downloaded apps and organized the device and settings. I ran out of juice last night and had to charge it. With general use It definitely won't go past a day of normal use.
Okay as of right now I have my gear s3 on standalone mode for the day starting at 100 percent. I will report back with results and all current settings.
I have the LTE T-Mobile version.
I put the watch on around 8.30 am - Was half day at home and about 3-4 hours out. Barely used it besides looking at some notifications. nothing else. It's 9pm right now and the watch is at 8%. I contacted support and they insist it lasts 3 days... Has anyone found any solution?

I believe Samsung bases that 3-4 days off of running the watch at it's most economical conditions. This probably means,
Bluetooth: on
Mobile Connect: off
WIFI: off
Always on Screen: off
Minimal amount of notifications enabled
Power Saving mode or off overnight
I have owned several Android Wear, and nearly every Samsung Gear watch. The people that report several day usage are running these very minimalistic settings. The Gear S3 has a 380mAh battery, I have a LG watch Urbane 2 with cellular and it has a 580 mAh battery. With BT and auto cellular enabled I get a drain of 3% - 3.5% per hour. Now that my Gear S3 is 5 days old and has been thru several charge cycles I am getting a steady 3% per hour drain.
Try using your S3 for an entire day with minimum settings and see what you get at the end of the day. You will probably see that you could get several days use.
I want my watch always on, and I want cellular when I walk away or leave my phone. I don't want to have to flick my wrist to see time. I know that I can easily get a full day of use from the S3 and still have 40+% left at the end of the night when I throw it on the charger and go to bed.
Everyone is different, find a power solution that fits your needs. Good Luck.

1. When the LTE/mobile connections is on auto and i'm home using wifi or bluetooth is still draining battery.
2. Always on display is a huge battery drain correct? - Really like not to see a blank screen...
What will you recommend to be the ideal settings as I spent half day home/half day out.
Is there a shortcut to turn LTE on/off quick?

Hey guys, I'm back as promised to give my feedback again. Since this morning, Ive lost 40 percent battery life (roughly 3 percent an hour). This is in stand alone mode with wifi off, nfc off, always on display is off, brightness is at 5, notifications for texting and Facebook on. I made a couple of calls earlier and answered a few texts. Didn't play around a whole lot on it though (Truthfully, didn't have a reason to).
One thing I don't understand is why to even have the lte version if it's such a battery drain over Bluetooth. Most of us I'm sure carry our cell phones around no? Anyways, the battery performed better than my initial test which basically died within 10 hours.
You've gone 13 hours in standalone mode and have more than 60% battery. To me that's awesome! I'd run AOD and just charge it nightly.
I think LTE is useful because many folks have occasions when they don't want to carry a phone (ie. running, going to the gym, gardening, hanging around the house naked). And there are a few weirdos who dream of abandoning their smartphone altogether...

I will try tomorrow with stand along along with AOD then report back! I will try other settings every day. After this, I'll do Bluetooth
I have had mine on for 24 hrs now, wifi on, bt on, auto forwarding on, AOD off, used gps once for 40 minutes, medium to heavy notifications, notifications turned off at night, brightness at level 5, and I am sitting at 40%. I figure once I get the battery trained and I don't play with it so much I will get close to three days.

I'm basically getting a day of general use out of the device. Today I turned off GPS and wifi to see if there is much difference. I already have the AOD turned off. Typically I'm putting the watch on around 6:30am and back in the cradle around 9:00pm. At that point there is around 20℅ battery left. Not sure how this thing will stretch 3-4 days.
I have the t-mo LTE version and im getting close to 18 hours out of it and thats calls and txt watched 3 er 4 youtube videos on it yesterday along with some music and general goofing around with it still getting it set up
wifi on BT on screen always on auto call forwarding when i go to far from my phone and so far its doing good
I have AOD off. I don't really need to know the time unless I'm looking at the watch and as you must accomplish the same move to get the screen to wake up as you would to check the time with AOD on, I see no need to have it on. Well other than have others checking out our watch. I have Wifi and LTE set to connect automatically when I'm out of range of BT. As I'll have my phone me a majority of the time, those connections will see limited use [good thing T-Mobile gave me a free line with unlimited everything for it.] I can easily get 2 days with these settings.

Woe is me gear battery

I remember the good old days, waking up to the vibration on my arm from a watch that had only used 10% overnight. Glancing at my sleep report over a cup of coffee. Leaving my phone behind and using LTE to stay updated on all my calls and texts. And Samsung Pay! Oh the joy of leaving the house without a wallet, and the new satisfaction of forgetting it at home was the only thing that was greater.

Happy 14 month anniversary to me, a software update had arrived just months after the one year manufacturer warranty. My watch would die in 8 hours in power saving mode and airplane mode.
So I searched high and low for a solution, and this is my best so far
Pairing
I paired my gear to my old s6. I leave the phone in airplane mode. Battery saver mode is off.
I used 20 percent battery between 9:30 and 4:30
Even if airplane mode was off the gear S6 doesn't have a sim.
So my watch doesn't send me text messages, I can't get calls, I don't get email reminders. Whatever, I just wanted what made me fall in love with the watch in the first place. A device that gets you out of a jam.
I hope they update the watch, but for now I'm a happy camper.

Now when I changed the battery there under the battery was a screw that they left in? Forgot? yeah... that was strange. But its so much better.
What do you guys have for Battery Capacity? It's under Settings, About, Battery Information then under Capacity. Mine is at 380mAh and battery life sucks.

Gear S3 reading wrong battery percentage

So I'm having the same fast battery drain that a lot of people are having where I can lose 30-40% in 1 to 2 hours and be completely dead in 6hrs. But here over the past couple of days my watch will shut down like the battery is dead but when I put it on the charger it will read anywhere between 28 and 32% so I will turn it back on and it will last about a minute and then shut down again and when I place it on the charger it still reads the same thing. Has anyone had this issue? Used to go all the way down to 3% and when I would put it on the charger it would read 3% but not now.

My wife's did this the other day. She just turned it off and left it on the charger for 24 hours. Seems to be working well today.

Is there a way to reset the battery status and percentage reading. Having the same issue.
Mine has been doing this for a few weeks now. It would power down as if the battery were depleted. When I put it on the charger, it would show 80%. I just bit the bullet and installed a new battery this morning (after trying everything else) and now it is working fine.

I didn't post any screens because after checking, my battery quick check is exactly like yours except L15 instead of L16
I too am having the same battery rapidly draining. I pulled it off the charger today at 1 after letting it fully drain last night. I had to place the watch twice because initially it was charging at a rate of 25/hr. It's 2:30 and I'm down to 76%.
The odd thing is, I got the watch for Christmas, purchased Monday of black Friday week. It was perfect until the first week of January. Then it slugged up. The the following day I started getting the battery drain issue, 10 - 15% an hr. After countless times of rebooting, factory restoring, letting the watch drain entirely and recharging, and messing with notifications and permissions, it started to act normally again. Then I got the Tizen 4 update and I decided to go through the update. I'm back to square one again...
I have no idea what really set it back to normal the first time. Figured I'd reach out again while I mess with it.
Also, I tried flashing the watch, but every time I went too, the software on my laptop would just crash when I hit start.
SM-R798T running Tizen 4. The upgrade to Tizen 4 wasn't done until after the new battery was installed. Now I can easily get 2 days life out of it. The battery was $24 and took about 25 minutes to install (I was being VERY careful since I had never done this before). The watch ran like a champ with good battery life (this was Saturday), Sunday afternoon, I got the notification to update to Tizen 4.
Watch shuts down quickly
I have had similar issues to all here. My watch is fully charged to 100% and removed from the dock and lasts probably an hour and a half, then shuts down without warning, no low battery signal or anything of the sort.
When it is placed back on the dock it reads anywhere between 80 - 90%.
This must be a software problem. I just upgraded to one UI and the issue has recurred.
Has anyone solved this??

same exact thing happening to my watch since updated One UI, did not have any problem before this update.
so far I could not able to solve the issue, not matter what I tried.

I have bit the bullet and changed the battery. Samsung repair shop did the install. On pick up at 15:50, the watch reconnected with my phone, did the update and synchronised at which point the battery went to 84%, from startup at 86%.
It then lasted overnight and for the next day, until the morning of the third day on which it died.
Since then it has lasted 2.5 to three days on one single charge.
I will only be charging it once it dies, not preemptively.
I will continue to monitor and update if any negative changes occur.
See people are still trying to insist it's a battery problem. Not true, most of the issues are software problems.
Still have the original battery in mine and two days is not a problem now. Meanwhile a year ago it didn't last 8 hours.
Charging the watch is a pain because the percentage is way out of whack and doesn't work right but once it's charged it works...
Still absolutely unacceptable for a $350 product that has only worked properly for about a year of the 2.5 years I've owned it due to glitchy software.

My watch now depletes its battery in less than 4 hours. Sometimes if I put it on a charger, the watch would instantly say 64%. I agree with you that it's a software problem. Does it help if I reset the watch? Do I have to replace the battery to solve this problem? Thanks.
I wonder if its a bit of both, battery degrading and the watch failing to reclibrate around it. I actually had a new battery in mine recently (GW42 but some of the same problems) as it was under warranty but if it wasn't I would be tempted to just disconnect the battery for a period of time and then reconnect and see if that is enough to reset the battery usage. Intrigued if anyone has tried this.
