How does one remove strings from an APK? My SystemUI places an annoying overlay over the status bar whenever the phone's rooted, and I found out what strings cause it but don't know how to remove them.
You can remove the strings with an app called Apk Editor pro. You can remove the strings and upload and resign and upload it is a paid app on playstore

yes. SystemUI
Re-add those strings to to the apk and upload. I did not read what apk you were trying to change. Your system ui has many depends and many fuctions changing a system apk is not advised could make your whole ROM crash.

I can't seem to figure it out. Trying it through settings I can pick something and then my phone will lock up for a bit and then tell me that something about touchwiz.broke.
Also choosing a pic from some where else and using set as only let's me choose wallpaper on the home page.
NOTE: this is different from the other wallpaper thread, as he isn't addressing the lock screen background.

I just reflashed a fresh copy of ICS using ODIN, so I'm back at stock and it's letting me change it. It's either the rooting process or something else that is breaking it.
If that's the case I guess I'll just deal until the first real ROMs are released. I'm too damn lazy lol.
---------- Post added at 03:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:52 PM ----------
I got a fix. I had my gallery frozen with TiBu since I installed the new gallery and DSP. I unfrozen and now QuickPic can change it!

Yeah I have my phone up and running again (with root and a bunch of other stuff on it) and the only difference is that I didn't get rid of gallery this time. So I guess you need gallery to do it.
I can't change mine either. I'm running SkyICS latest and it crashes settings when I try to change it there. Quickpic has no option to set it. I know on one of the previous updates, I was able to, so I don't know what changed.
Would be great if one of you awesome themers could do this... just a simple blacked out dialer, contacts and MMS app!
The new google dilaer comes so close. I have it installed, made a phone call with it this morning and every time I've tried to open it since I get a force close error.
Don't get why anyone would want dark contacts and dialer again. Samsung had that running for the past 4 years and it was time for a change now! Light theme all the way!
@mnuttall87 care to share the APK?
@88EVGAFTW No thy did not, ever have a dark/blacked out themed dialer/contacts......
I'll give you the source!

Just confirmed it is the theme bc I flashed the theme and it force closed everything. Couldn't even take a screenshot/get to my gallery bc of all th force close lol. And I honestly saw nothing different from "Blacked out Dialer with blue text and black chrome highlights".
Damn this a problem, now even when I restore my nandroid I'm getting force closes everywhere.... WTF!
Any updates @vinman12 for getting it to work on Mystery build?

I don't think it has anything to do with the chipset. I would suggest you to check the screen resolution, os version. I'm using the same wallpaper on any phone I have or had in the past years and no issues. I have to admit, that I use custom pictures.
