Framework-res - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to change notification title color to white by modifing framework-res.apk using apktool but I guess I'm doin it wrong because when I push I get bootlooped.
So I was hoping if someone can edit the file for me (file added) and upload it here
What I want:
-whie color notification title
+ Go to /res/values/colors.xml > notification title color (at the end of the file) > change to #ffffffff
Save and upload here (or drive or whatever).
Tnx !!!
The file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-9HgN61XNOSUzJqbDZiOEdmUUk/view?usp=drivesdk

I am really not into frameworks, but your hexadecimal color number has a typo in it. Should be #ffffff.

I thought too but when I opened the app with apktool there was 8 f not 6...
But I really don't care , as long as it works lol

Well, it might be alpha values or something like that.

RoM Cooking Question

Hey Dudes, can someone please tell me, where are the Default Theme settings stored in the ROMs of our HTC Wizard (and probably the rest WM6's) ? I am making a new ROM and I want to change the Default theme of the Base ROM I am using.
Look in your SYS folder and its in a package named something like DPI_96 (sorry, don't have a kitchen near me and I don't remember the exact name). Anyway, in there you will find one (or more) files that start with stwater*.bmp (probably like stwater_320_240.bmp, stwater_240_320.bmp). Those are the backgrounds for the default theme (there could also be tdywater.bmp files too, which are used for the background of the start menu drop down). The tricky part is then finding the actual registry entries that set the font colors and such.
What I recommend doing is finding a theme you like now and pull the .tsk apart (.tsk are just a .cab, so any tool that can pull cabs apart can do them). You can then grab the registry entries out of that to then put in a .rgu file for your rom.
Hope that helps. I'm only dabbled with changing the theme, so there may be more elegant methods, but thats what I did with XM6...

That's the Base Hue not the bar color ...but it will change the bar color too if you modify that, as well as all the colors in the theme.

[SEARCH] How to edit background of the iconlist in Launcher

could any of you themers tell me please where I can find the wallpaper which is under the icons, when you press the Launcher Button?
It's stock black and I want to change it?
Thanks!
Ummmm.....
Are you asking for the location of the launcher background? I am not positive, but I would check inside the apk for the launcher. Just a guess.
I think that is more of a line of code somewhere and not an image if you are referring to the app drawer in launcher2.
You can tell a special .png by the helmet it wears.
Yeah, Launcher2.apk was my first look. It isn't in there.
What do you mean with "You can tell a special .png by the helmet it wears" please.
Sorry!

It was an off color joke.
I was thinking it was in an xml file in launcher2.apk somewhere but couldn't find it. Then there is an xml called grid color selector or something like that in drawable of framwwork. But I couldn't find the color in there either. I am still looking though so if anyone finds it please let us know.
So I cant' change the picture, only the colour?
it most likely isn't going to be referenced as a color, it is probably calling it out from the system framework (I just got my nexus yesterday so I only started the new theme today, so this is a guess). I have the source, but havent gone thru it yet. It would be possible to add a line of code, to the correct .xml, and either place an image or at least a background=color to it

Change emoticons

Hi!
I just got my Nexus One last week and its my first Android phone, and so far I love it!
There is one thing that I want to change though, the appearance of the emoticons/smilies in SMS and the "syntax" to use. Right now I have to write to get a smiley but I also want to be able to write just
Is there a way to change this or has someone else maybe already done this?
For the new emoticons I don't really care how they look, just some regular yellow smilies.
Can this be done?
Thanks!
+1 on this, it looks nice on my end with the coloured smiley but if the receiver isn't on android it looks kinda stupid.
+1 and Up
It would be very nice if someone find a solution to change the combinaison of smiley's [ to ] and also change the pictures of the smiley's

I've seen a rom for the Desire with changed smileys. Xperia ones on it. I'd love those for my Magic aswell.....
If someone finds out how to change, message me asap!
Oki, I just found it out!
Not the code combination, but the smileys, the emoticon pictures.
Ofc you must be rooted, and get to the "framework-res.apk"
Then you change the .apk to .zip or open it with 7zip or winrar.
in framework-res.apk go to: framework-res.apk\res\drawable-mdpi-v4 (this may be different from phone to phone, look in all the "drawable" folders to find: "emo_im_undecided.png" every smiley is there with names starting with "emo_im_" Change them in photoshop and you got yourself some different looking smileys
If you change .apk to .zip remember to change it back to .apk after editing it. and allways backup! incase something doesnt work as it should
God, I hate that "of course you must be rooted" - NO, I don't want to root - this should be possible in normal versions. Damn google.
i would like this too!

Can you explain these step by step ?
Do i have re-sign 'framework-res.apk' after i replace the icon ?
i already sent 'framework-res.apk' to my HTC, but why still green smiley appear not my smiley
Please help
thanks a lot, but how we remove the nose ? the "-"
thanks
smiley syntax not
+1 on the syntax of the smileys.
An easy way to change the appearance of smileys is to use handcent as your sms client btw - you can download smiley packages which display different images, and you don't have to be rooted for it to work.
But does anyone have any idea how to make Android display etc as emoticons as well as etc? Most non-smartphone users, as well as iPhone and BB user use the former syntax. It's so irritating that Android uses the latter.
I assume it's necessary to modify either a system framework file, or a file within the mms apk, but I'm no developer so have no idea where to start to tackle this!
anyone ? *sigh*
plzzz... find a solution for this...
Changing icons is easy, but syntax hard, you gotta edit some jar files aka smali editing.
Or if you are feeling adventurous, get the source and find a way to change it (I'll try when I have some free time)
Got the same problem, have replaced the framework-res.apk still the green smilies. any solution?
U need to change smileys from MMS.apk and framework-res.apk
I agree about the syntax problem, I'd really like a solution to this if someone would be kind enough to help. Being the noob that I am, I tried doing a bit of tweaking in the mms.apk file, but it made no difference when I pushed it to my phone.
All my friends use the syntax instead of , so I tend to just avoid typing emoticons at the moment
Doesn't work

I think you have to root and install custom themes....I could be wrong, but I have a feeling Im not. I wish they would change the status bar to either white or black in 2.1,,,but thats not the case
yeah i have custom theme already, in fact my status bar is black... and im rooted but i want it white. idk where i can find it
Changing the colour of the bar is the easy part, not sure on the font though.

You can do that by pulling service.jar editing it, deodexing a bunch of files and pushing them back. You are on your own because no one has done that before on X10.
I gave up after re-flashing 10-15 times.

Oh come on, root your phone, install the Android SDK, run ADB (see sig), pull and edit your framework-res, push it back, job done. Not sure about transparent, will give it a go next time I reflash unless someone wants to try it out beforehand.
OK after reading this thread I gave it another try ( this time without messing around ) changed few of the codes in classout\com\android\server\status\StatusBarIcon.smali but it didn't change the color. Maybe i am missing something but hey i didn't have to re-flash this time. I just need to know what to change now and we will be done

well not quite as simple as that. Spending some time with google i found that i have to edit this line after deodexing services.jar . What i also found out we need to deodex the entire /system/app and /system/framework to change the clock color. It may be possible but i just re-flashed again and don't want to try this again now. Maybe you can try ?
Code:
const/4 v6, -0x2

as per Bazza from his Frankendroid thread.
Bazza1976 said:
Here is how i did it:
1. Right click on framework-res.apk, and go to 7-zip, open archive.
2. Navigate to /res/layout . There are three files we looking for in here (status_bar.xml , status_bar_expanded.xml , and status_bar_latest_event_content.xml).
3. Move these three files to the desktop.
4. Open HxD and the go to the file menu and then open. Navigate to the desktop and open all three files.
5. Start with status_bar.xml first. Do Ctrl+F to bring up the search window. Type 08 00 00 1C and change Data type to be Hex-string. Click ok.
6. In the file you will see that 08 00 00 1C is now hightlighted. The next string next to it is a color code for text. An example would be FF FF FF FF. In the example this would be for white with alpha. First thing to remember here is that the Hex codes are backwards. They follow the pattern of BGRA instead of ARGB like we did in the command prompt. Also within the BGR values they are backwards also. So I am going to give an example to help clarify. The color orange has a Hex code of FF6600 from the web color chart. In HxD it needs to be 0066FF and then FF will follow that. The last FF is for alpha, leave it alone.
7. After changing the Hex code to the color you want hit Ctrl+F. 08 00 00 1C should still be in there with Hex-string for data type. Just hit ok and it will take you to the next text color code. Change to the desired color like before. You will have to do this one more time within this file, making a total of 3 color codes to change. One may already be changed due to running the colorChangev3.jar. Save the file and head onto status_bar_expanded.xml .
8. Do the same as in the first file by doing Ctrl+F for 08 00 00 1C. There are three that can be changed in here. The last one is for the "clear" text that shows in the button on the notification drop down. I usually leave this one to 00 00 00 for black, since it is on a white background. Save after making changes.
9. Open status_bar_latest_event_content.xml. There are three changes to be done in here as well. Once done making the changes save the file.
10. Now right click on framework-res.apk again. Go to 7-zip in the menu and open archive. From here open /res/layout and drag the three xml files from the desktop into this folder. It will ask if you want to over the existing files, go ahead and do so.
11. Now push the framework-res.apk back to the phone.

Yeah, I've had this problem before with a framework.
Thats a nice theme. The wooden calendar wasnt really bad, but your theme makes it really nice!
I realy like your theme. The contacts.apk and the phone.apk are "woody ugly" too. Would you theme theese apps too?
Can you post your said XML alone as an attachment (the already modified and original)? I'd like to take a look at it.
As some resources (files in the /res folder) are shared between apps through the framework, changing anything shared might result in an inconsistency and FC the app.
A workaround might be to completely decompile the framework as a dependency and modify it there. It would result in a more dramatic change, but it would cross over to other apps such as the contacts, dialer and calendar simultaneously.
PS: this also applies to the browser, email app, contacts and so on, depending on what you change.

I see what I can do.
Ok, in the XML I can see you have three variations of brown/orange. Judging by the colors, I suspect this is the default XML, before editing it.
The colors are #ffbe801d, #ffede3c2 and #ff503200. What values are you trying to set instead of these? What I mean is, how EXACTLY are you replacing the actual text in the XML:
#ffbe801d becomes: ???
#ffede3c2 becomes: ???
#ff503200 becomes: ???
This is important as the color representation is not the basic HEX code encountered in regular web dev (for example). It's a 16-bit hex representation with alpha. The first two elements (ff) stand for 100% opacity.

Yeah, that's right, this is the default xml.
I edit the xml same as other xmls which I edit without any problem, I just open
the xml in a text file and change the value I want to edit and then I save it and
after that I compile it with Apk Manager.
I just want to change them to something like gray, for example I want to change
#ffbe801d to #ff787878 and #ffede3c2 to #ffbcbcbc. It dosen't matter if they
are not exactly these colors, like I said before I just want to make them gray
For the third one, I don't think it changes those two colors that I want to change.
Btw, thanks for helping.
Well, I've looked into it and I can:
1. Fully Decompile the APK. It doesn't need any shared resources from external packages.
2. Edit the XMLs accordingly. I have also seen that you were very thorough in your theme creation process.
It's all good apparently, however, I am unable to recompile everything back. The APK tool reports some missing resources. For some reason, there is a dependency that is not satisfied, although the package decompiles correctly (I have never seen a similar package before).
I'll have to scour some Google documentation before I'll come up with a relevant result, so it may take a while. I'm not gonna let it fly, though. The entire process should be plain smooth and must be doable anyway.
Hi
I have no issues bulding the calendar. If u send me your edited files i can try build it for you..also chech if apktool is up to date, using older ver. will hand out errors..
Edit
Tested these colors
#ffbe801d becomes: ff6090bf
#ffede3c2 becomes: ff9198b1
#ff503200 becomes: ff001d50
ref. : http://www.color-hex.com/
