So I'm just realizing this. But my S8+ looks too easy to unlock if all I have to do is swipe the screen. At first I had a pattern and when I swipe my screen I was able to put in the pattern. Then when I use the finger print the screen swipe still came up with the pattern (if I didn't feel like using the fingerprint scan.) But now I'm using the iris scan and the screen swipe instantly unlocks my phone without bringing up the pattern. And I feel as though if someone had my phone they can easily get into my phone. So is there a way to disable the screen swipe? And yes I check I have the pattern on but it doesn't show at all with the iris scanner on and off.

I am running a stock un-rooted note 5 . my issue is that I have to Swipe up on the lock Screen and use the fingerprint to unlock but I only want to use the fingerprint . Any idea HOW to do this?
Please search next time. You have smart lock activated. If you have a lock icon on you lock screen, your phone is not secure. Just swipe anywhere but from that icon and your phone unlocks. If you swipe from the lock icon, then you are securing it for the next time you turn the screen on. To change the smart lock setting, go to settings > lock screen and security>secure lock settings> smart lock.
The thing is I already searched and could not find anything on this. Also smart lock is not turned on. If I wipe it's either use finger print or pin if it can't read my print after a few tries. My phone will not unlock from just a swipe it has to be a pin or password. I don't want to swipe at all but just use a finger print.

Ok, so it's been awhile since I've used a Samsung Device and my dad just got one. After setting it up and everything I've noticed that I was only able to use the finger scanner to unlock the phone on first attempt (after unlock with the finger scanner at lock screen -> hitting the power button / lock screen it I am unable to unlock it with the finger scanner again, the only option is the swipe the screen to unlock). This is so frustrating because lets say I am at home and I have guests over and they randomly just access my phone like that. I browsed through the settings and it's getting to the point where I don't know how to set this finger scanner unlock process up, which should be cake. I did some more research and I've read that it's something to do with the smart lock? But i've noticed that those aren't even enable so it couldn't have been that.
PS: simply put in short,
- Unable to use the finger scanner to unlock the device after second try (as it's not an option)
- After using finger scanner to unlock the device at lock screen it goes back to swipe to unlock
Main focus: Can I set it up so that it's able to always use the finger scanner to unlock the device like other phones such as, LGs, Nexus, Sonys, iPhones, etc.?

Stock rom with lolipop 5.1.1 I fixed though. It turned out that all I had to do was go into the security and go to secured lock time and set it to instant lock rather than at display. I don't know why they don't just combine the two so that it's easier to approach.

I want to use the patern lock method. The problem is that when I want to unlock the phone I must swipe the screen first and then to use the patern.(I select the only the patern method). I have searched the web(a lot) and still I can't get an answer.... On my previous phone(Note4 with Android 6.1) this behavior was not present. Is there a "magic " setting that can end my suffering?

What happens when you also include fingerprint as a option?... meaning you have both pin and fingerprint as options.
You also have to swipe to use the iris scanner too...annoying for sure.

There's an option to have it scan for you iris as soon as you hit the unlock button.
The swipe is present if I chose pattern+face or pattern+iris...I just can get ride of it...I must swipe first and then biometrics or pattern...
No swipe needed, go to settings>display>navigation bar then turn on Unlock with home button, no need to swipe now just push the home button.
looking to slove this as well on galaxy s7 active...
we don't have the nav bar option...
So for years I have used nova launcher and had a simple swipe up on the home screen to lock my device. I got my S10 the other week and continued to use it. I didn't set up face recognition because I am fairly happy with fingerprint unlock.
With face recognition turned off, a swipe up on the home screen locks the screen (turns it off entirely) as it always did. However I tried turning face unlock on today and it's pretty cool. BUT now when I swipe up to lock, I am left with a lock screen rather than a black screen. worth noting that pressing the lock button does turn the screen off entirely. But I have my lock gesture for a reason! I now have to disable face unlock because I insist on locking with a gesture, and it effectively isn't locking the phone.
This is probably a fairly unique problem but if anyone else has experienced this and/or knows a workaround I'd love to hear from you.

I think the only way to do that is with facial recognition. I know there's an option for that security to unlock/swipe the screen after it recognizes your face.

I didn't setup smart lock yet, but I do have fingerprint setup. When screen is black, I put my registered finger to the right spot and phone unlocks and goes to home screen
There's an option for face unlock
For smart unlock, I'm afraid that that's not possible since that swiping is the only thing protecting your phone to be accidentally while walking/running or whatever you are doing those moments.
This can be done with Face Unlock

You can also set up "Unlock with S Pen remote" - pressing the S pen button will turn the phone on and bring the last screen you visited.

go to your phone settings, search for face recognition and turn off "Stay on Lock Screen"
