Install Directions:
You can install RS988 11c using the following methods...
Using LG Bridge on pc/mac. LG Bridge app downloads the latest available KDZ for your phone then installs it.
Using LGUP + UPPERCUT. You can download the 11c KDZ and manually flash it with LGUP.
Using TWRP to flash my 11c COMPLETE zip. You must flash either SuperSU or Magisk zip after flashing COMPLETE zip for root.
All methods listed above are described in full step by step detail below. Click button below to view...
For no root/100% stock just flash the KDZ. Flash KDZ with either LG Bridge or LGUP.
LG Bridge downloads and flashes the KDZ automatically but can be weird/buggy.
LGUP requires downloading 11c KDZ file yourself but it's pretty simple after that.
If you have TWRP and want to keep it or want root then you'll want the zip files.
LG Bridge Directions:
Click button below to view steps
1. Download/install LG Bridge for Windows or Mac.
2. Launch LG Bridge and connect G5 while it is still booted in Android.
3. LG Bridge will detect and connect to your device then scan for updates. Update if available.
LGUP Directions:
Click button below to view steps
1. Download the following three(3) files on Windows PC (Windows only. Mac/Linux? Use a Windows Virtual Machine):
LGUP
UPPERCUT
Latest LG Windows PC drivers
2. Download KDZ. Install LGUP 1.14 and LG USB drivers if not already installed.
3. Turn OFF device then place in Download Mode: Hold Volume Up while plugging in USB cable.
4. Double-click the UPPERCUT.exe to load LGUP...
How-to use LGUP and flash software:
Select device
Check BIN File box under File Type then select KDZ file
Check "Upgrade" box. Refurbish will not work. To wipe data, boot into stock recovery and do a factory reset.
Click START button to flash file to G5 (you may have to close and reopen LGUP before being able to hit Start)
Install via TWRP Directions:

Below are options for flashing zips in TWRP.
IF YOU FLASH THE COMPLETE ZIP YOU WILL LOSE TWRP UNLESS YOU FLASH A ZIP THAT REPACKS THE BOOT.IMG OR YOU DELETE THE "recovery-from-boot.p" FILE IN /SYSTEM.
ZIPS THAT REPACK THE BOOT.IMG INCLUDE SUPERSU OR MAGISK.
To flash the 11c ZIPs you need TWRP installed.
A. Stock ROOTED.
Click the button below to view steps
1. Download the following two files and place on G5 internal or external SD card.
Have encrypted data and no external sdcard? ADB Sideload in TWRP.
LG-RS98811c-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip
Latest SuperSU [BETA] Thanks to Chainfire!
2. (re)Boot into TWRP
3. Install the COMPLETE ZIP and SuperSU ZIP:
LG-RS98811c-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
SuperSU zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
OPTIONAL:
You can use Magisk instead of SuperSU.
To be extra safe in making sure TWRP sticks (in case zips don't repack the boot.img or user error) delete the "recovery-from-boot.p" file in the root of /system and TWRP will 100% stick... boot repack or not). You can use the TWRP Mounts button mount system as RW. And use the Advanced button in TWRP to use the file manager to delete the "recovery-from-boot.p" in /system.
After zips finish flashing you can reboot! If TWRP asks if you want to install SU, hit no. If TWRP says No OS installed, ignore it.
B. Stock UNROOTED + Keeping TWRP.
You need the COMPLETE zip + either the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip OR boot repack zip.
Data unncrypted users: Use no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip. Those keeping data encryption: boot repack zip.
If you don't want TWRP/root and don't want to use a KDZ.. flash the COMPLETE zip by itself.
Click the button below to view steps
1. Download files and place on G5 internal or external SD card.
Have encrypted data and no external sdcard? Use ADB Sideload in TWRP.
LG-RS98811c-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip
no-verity-opt-encrypt-4.1.zip.Thanks to @jcadduono!
android-boot-repack.zip. Thanks to @jcadduono!
2. (re)Boot into TWRP
3. Install the COMPLETE ZIP + noverity/bootrepack ZIP:
LG-RS98811c-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip OR android-boot-repack.zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
After zips finish flashing you can reboot! If TWRP asks if you want to install SU, hit no. If TWRP says No OS installed, ignore it.
FAQ:
Click button below to view FAQ
Q: Why isn't this ROM pre-rooted? Are there any mods?
A: I leave all modifications up to the user, therefore it is up to the user to decide which root method/zip to use or which mods to flash etc. Simply flash the COMPLETE zip then flash the SuperSU zip right after and you'll have a stock-rooted ROM using SuperSU. Want a debloated stock rom? Users/devs should put together a flashable zip that simply deletes apks and other files from the stock roms.. no need to create a whole new 2GB+ rom zip just because you want a few apks removed. The same is true with many mods... flashable mod zips could be used to make changes to this stock base rom.. a whole new rom isn't needed just because a few APKs were modified.
Q: Why did I lose TWRP after flashing this ROM?
A: Android attempts to remove any installed custom recovery(TWRP) each time you boot into Android. To avoid this you can either modify the boot.img or remove the "recovery-from-boot.p" file which is found in the root of your /system partition. Android is able to build the new stock recovery.img when you boot into Android by using the "recovery-from-boot.p" file inside system. But when the boot.img is modified (using SuperSU for example) Android will no longer try to rebuild a stock recovery.img based off the boot.img. Or you can simply remove the "recovery-from-boot.p" file and Android no longer knows how to rebuild stock recovery.
Q: Anti-Rollback 01? What does this mean?
A: It means if you flash 11c or higher you can't flash anything lower than anti-rollback (ARB) v01. 10A was v00. If you manage to flash 10x bootstack (bootloader/modem) after already being on 11c+ you will brick. Just don't flash any 10x files and you're fine (as of May 2017.. can't predict future builds...)
Q: I don't care about root or TWRP.. do I have to worry about this fuse stuff?
A: Nope, if you don't want root or TWRP just use LG Bridge or LGUP to upgrade to stock 11c and keep it movin'.
Q: Why does the boot.img need to be repacked?
A: boot.img is repacked for systemless root. You also need to repack the boot.img to stop TWRP from getting replaced with stock recovery the first time you boot into android after installing a new system/boot. A patch file in the system.img uses the boot.img when it's 100% stock and builds/flashes a stock recovery image... and this would replace TWRP. So to keep TWRP and keep a stock system.img you just repack the boot.img with either the SuperSU/Magisk, verity/encryption zip or the boot repacker zip. If you don't care about keeping TWRP none of this matters.
Q: How do I know if /data and /sdcard are encrypted?
A: If you never used TWRP and wiped/formatted data then you have encrypted data. Have TWRP and aren't sure? Boot into TWRP and try to browse /data or /sdcard... if both are empty then you are encrypted. Can you see stuff in /data and /sdcard? Then your data is not safe and not encrypted(but at least you can see files in TWRP, right?...).
NOTES:
This is for the carrier-free USA RS988 that can be officially bootloader unlocked through the LG Developer program. It should technically work with the Brightpoint variants but was made for the carrier-free variant. I was asked to put together an 11c zip so it was easier to downgrade from Android 7 Nougat to Android 6 Marshmallow by flashing the bootloader or COMPLETE zips in TWRP. LGUP does not allow downgrading from N to M so flashing with TWRP is currently the easiest downgrade method.
For the users stuck on Brightpoint's 10h, just unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and then flash the 11c COMPLETE zip in TWRP... reboot into Android and you'll be ready to accept the 11D and 21A OTA updates.
After someone flashes the 11C COMPLETE zip I need a user to boot into Android and then issue the adb reboot bootloader command to see if you boot into fastboot or if the phone just reboots.
It would be helpful if a user goes back to 11c stock then updates to 11D.. then installs TWRP.. and uses TWRP to backup all the stock 11D partitions (system, boot, modem and all the partitions that make up the bootstack/bootloader).
It would also be helpful if a user did the same when updating to 21A.
The exact process would be to flash back to 11C... take the OTA update to 11D/21A. Boot into fastboot and install twrp. unplug the usb cable and power off the phone. Boot into TWRP. Back up stock partitions in TWRP to tmp directory or external sdcard (internal sdcard will be encrypted and you wont be able to use that unless you format it). Then the partitions will need to be compressed (zip, rar, 7z etc..) and uploaded somewhere so I can download it and then make new flashable zips.
The partitions must be 100% stock.. so back them up before trying to root in TWRP or attempting any mods. OTA update > install twrp > boot into twrp and backup stock partitions.

Thanks @autoprime I will do it right now

Just to confirm @autoprime fastboot access is unavailable on 11c it just reboots when issuing adb reboot bootloader command it does not become accessible until you upgrade to 11d

If your phone reboots at all or boot loops when you are trying to setup after downgrading back to 11c just pull battery and go into stock recovery and do a factory reset and all will be good.

Yes I reflashed with ROM RS98811c via LGUP and it works well. I will check update for Android 7.
Thanks @autoprime and users of RS988

Yes sorry i did not mention flashing the 11c kdz with lgup because i wasn't sure if it had to be done i only did it as a precaution to guarantee i was on factory stock before checking for updates. Just to report that 4g lte is working perfectly now that i am on the 21a nougat

Did you backup partition and shared with @autoprime? I still download N.21a

No i do not have twrp installed currently wanted to get back to 21a so i could test LTE for everyone that was asking it has been working great all night and today without one disconnection.

@autoprime all i see that i can backup in twrp are system, system image and boot will that be enough to be useful or is there any other way to backup up other partitions? i know recovery, data, and efs would most likely not be needed and that are the only other options.

you would need to use adb shell in TWRP to manually backup the partitions. you could use twrps backup feature to backup system image (not system) and boot... but adb would be needed for all the others.
if you have an external sdcard you could backup system image and boot image to your ext-sd using twrps backup feature.
then for the rest you could use adb dd commands to save each partition to the /tmp directory... then after theyre all backed up to /tmp you could then use adb pull to pull each image from /tmp onto your pc.
the adb command's example would be:
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/aboot of=/tmp/aboot.img
and those 2 commands above would then backup your aboot partition and save it as an img file in the /tmp directory.
and you would use that same "template" of a dd command for all the other partitions listed in the RS988 11C codefire directory.
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/PartitionNameHere of=/tmp/FileNameHere
so another example would be:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modem of=/tmp/modem.img
and you'd do the same for all the other partitions... list of partitions is here. Every file that ends with .img
if you didnt want to save each image file to the /tmp directory and instead directly onto your external sdcard.. you'd have to figure out what the external sdcard directory is..
for example: dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modem of=/sdcard/ext-sd/modem.img
or something along those lines... I don't have the directory for ext off the top of my head.
so with those steps.. you or another user would be making a proper backup of everything and would allow me to make a proper COMPLETE zip and bootloader zip for that software version. Then RS988 users wouldn't need to mess with 11C anymore (unless they wanted to).
a screenshot or copy/paste of the command prompt/terminal with all the adb commands used could be helpful so I could review and make sure there were no typos or mistakes. Forgetting to change the "partition name" in the command put changing the "image name" would result in some pretty dangerous mixups...
for example:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modem of=/tmp/modem.img
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modem of=/tmp/aboot.img
those commands would give you 2 different image names... but looking more closely at the command.. both commands backed up the modem partition... despite the file being named "aboot.img". and if someone then flashed that "aboot.img" to their aboot partition, they would brick. and no kdz or rom zip will ever fix that. perm brick.

Everything worked out good zip file is uploading now and i will post link when it is ready. I included a text file with all my dd commands i used to generate the .img files.

@autoprime https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9RvufywiW6VZ2d3ck90WFhJaEE this should be everything you need

I spent some time tonight on this.
Got the bootloader unlocked.
Flashed the twrp-3.0.2-1-rs988.img file.
Booted into TWRP and flashed the LG-RS98811c-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip
Now the phone boots, asks for a security password, says there is 20/30, and then reboots within 2 seconds.
I'm not sure what to do.
I've done the bottom power button+power key, factory reset twice, says Android Starting, then when it gets to the Welcome Screen, Set Internet Connection and REBOOTS.
Edit:
I went into Download Mode and flashed the 11c KDZ in LG UP. Phone rebooted at end, then started asking again for a password. Went back to the Volume Down+Power and Factory Reset.
I was then able to get the phone to fully boot Android and currently downloading the 11d update.
My question is why it kept asking for a security password on boot, and how can I make sure that doesn't happen again?
Edit #2:
The 11d update downloaded and flashed, and upon reboot, it again is asking for a password to unlock?!?
Edit #3:
Once again did Volume Down+Power to factory reset. Now downloading the 21a.
But I have a feeling once it installs and reboots, it will once again ask for a password.
Edit 4:
Got 21a flashed. LTE with ATT GoPhone working.
The Password on boot is now gone (but still not sure why it kept coming up).
Now just the warning about the Unlocked Bootloader.

thank you! I went through all the dd commands in the text and looked over the partitions.. everything looks perfect. :good:
I just need to confirm one more thing which I should have mentioned originally but it slipped my mind...
when you first booted into TWRP before the backups TWRP first asks you to enter a decryption password and then asks about keeping system "read-only". Which buttons/options did you select when going through these menus before you got into the main TWRP screen?
I'll assume you hit "cancel" on the decryption screen but for the system read-only menu.. did you select "keep read only" or "swipe to allow modifications" ?
if keep read only was selected.. great.. and I will work on putting the flashable zips together this weekend.
if you swiped to allow modifications, system was remounted and is no longer 100% stock and it wouldnt be the best option for putting together a stock rom... and I would need someone else to make a system backup (I could still use all your other partitions though!)

@autoprime yes i kept everything read only glad everything looks good.

Not positive why the password popup kept coming up same thing happened for me i assume maybe because of the unlocked bootloader.

When I did TWRP first boot, I didn't do the swipe right, so it kept it Read. From there I did the 11c Complete flash. Didn't do SuperSU.
Now that I've been on 21a for about 12 hours, I was wondering if there is a way to reverse the unlocked bootloader so that other apps like Android Pay will work?

confirm OEM Unlock is enabled in developer settings. "adb reboot bootloader" then "fastboot oem lock" once you are booted into fastboot. you should not have anything do worry about considering you did not enable modifications in twrp

OEM Unlock is grayed out for some reason, probably because it is unlocked? After doing the "Fastboot oem lock" command, I guess this research the phone, meaning apps and setting are cleared?

Yes it will be greyed out but the button is toggled to on. I don't think it will factory reset when you relock.

So I've noticed a major issue today. Not sure if it is with 21a, or with GoPhone (ATT network), but didn't have this issue with 11c/11d...
About half of incoming calls (placed from an land line or other cell) is not going through to the G5. It stays on LTE instead of changing to HSPA when the call comes in, and thus the G5 doesn't ring and goes to voice mail. Then it doesn't get the VM notification. I can place calls fine (changes from LTE to HSPA and back), so it looks to be only on incoming calls.
I've done the "Reset Network", verified the APN, and went to Global to GSM/LTE network mode. But still happens.

Mine is switching just fine on metropcs it actually seems like it switches quicker on 21a when receiving and ending calls than it did on 11c/d

There are many many phones of this type with different hardware such as camera's, screen's & different RAM sizes and ROM sizes of which many are faked!! If in doubt do not flash anything.

Backup Backup!
I cannot stress enough the importance of getting a full backup of your phone's stock ROM before you begin flashing tweaking or anything else Generally there is no, zero, none, manufacturer support for these devices so unless the seller made a full backup of your device you are screwed if something goes wrong :crying: SO getting a backup should be your very first step.
As said earlier there are many many variations of this phone I am sure with all kind's of different hardware configurations such as CPU, RAM, ROM, CAMERA and SCREENS so it's important to get your phones factory ROM Backed Up the most important things are the uboot.img boot.img it's also a good idea to have a stock recovery.img :good: The uboot and boot.img are what contains your phones specific hardware configuration such as the list above so providing you maintain your stock uboot and boot.img you will always be able to get these things working correctly. :highfive:
Caution: Not all is as it may seem I purchased two phones from different sellers on ebay both phones claimed to be the exact same specification MTK6589 1GB RAM 8GB ROM 720 x1280 screen res.
When the phones arrived they looked identical and I was very impressed with the general quality and the quick, smooth & responsive ROM.
So I set about getting them both rooted.
MTK Droid tools reported one phone as MTK6582 so after backing up and rooting I looked through the rom and found a script called "agold_cheat_evaluating_software.xml" This script fools all benchmark testing softwares into reporting any MTK6582 and even an MTK6572 device to be reported as an MTK6589 with a CPU frequency of 1.2ghz the rom also affects mobileuncle. This just demonstrates that you must proceed with caution
I was in middle of writing a tut to show Noob's how to best achieve a full backup when I came across this most excellent Tutorial by @rnovino on pinoyscreencast.net. :highfive: http://pinoyscreencast.net/get-stock-rom-romdump-mediatek-mt6582-via-mtk-droid-root-tools/
Please follow his instructions according to your true CPU type the MTK6589 is in the video and some extra steps are required for the MTK6582 version which he explains in post :victory: I thank him for saving me so much time and effort
He has also linked and listed the tools and drivers required
MTK Droid tools will show the true CPU you have in your phone so a massive thanks to @Rula1 for his awesome work on this tool Please hit his thanks button. Here

TWRP V2.5.0 Recovery for MTK6589
Well I finally managed to manually port TWRP to our phone :victory:
The main problem was a standard port of TWRP would always exceed the recovery partition size no matter how I tried. The kernel of our phone is rather large at 4.2mb and this combined with the TWRP files would always come out too large. :crying:
I was about to give up on ever having TWRP again when I spotted this recompiled version of TWRP on the lenovo ru forum. Here So thanks and credit to the guy who recompiled TWRP to give me those few extra mb's to allow me to squeeze TWRP on to our phone. :highfive: I still had to edit a few images but it now works. :victory: :victory: :victory:
IMPORTANT:
Before you flash this double check the file size against your stock recovery.img or recovery partition size. Highlight recovery/right click/properties/details and check the actual size's
If the twrp recovery is larger than the "stock" recovery.img or recovery partition it will kill your sim slots They will not be displayed or detected!! If it's smaller then your good to go
There is also included in the download MY factory recovery CWM recovery build.prop file and two boot.img's one factory one patched for root
You are responsible for flashing so you do so at your own risk and I will not be responsible for any damage or bricks.

Agold .apk makes lots of system mods so until this is fully investigated proceed with caution!!
The ROM is smooth and stable with everything working on my device as it should. :good:
Power consumption is very good too under normal use :good:
Below is a file called projectConfig.mk which I believe is run at startup but I have not had chance to fully investigate this. Notice all the cheats that can be activated although they seem not be activated in this rom I think "Agold_Empty" THIS IS A LONG LIST so I have had to upload as an attachment PS: The Rom has superuser but will require the patched boot and a patched recovery of your choice to stay rooted which are included in the download.
com.mobileuncle.toolbox should be removed and replaced with the uptodate version on playstore which now supports our phone more fully

Hi! I am glad to see this thread!
Just so you know, I found 4 ROMs for that phones on a Rusian forum, and as far as I can see there seems to be two version of that phone...
3 of the ROMs where OEM original ROMs but different releases. The guy who posted those said that only 2 of the three are functionnal on his phone. I tried all ROMs, and in my case, the only one that works is the one that didn't work for him.
My phone is identified as a MTK Model No.: ES-4 (on the back behind the battery). That that mean that it is not a real U9501?

Yes I think there could be many many differnt types.
Can you pull the build.prop file from /system of the original stock rom and paste the text as CODE Then HIDE?
This will give us a better idea as to the true model identification :fingers-crossed:
I am going to work now so will take a little time to reply.
This is my build.prop to compare.

Hi!
Here is my build.prop
But just so you know, this is not the original one. I flashed my phone already with a few ROMs that I got from that Rusian site. So this ROM is one of the ROM that are supposed to be the stock ROM, but I can tell that the content of the build.prop isn't the same as the original ROM since I don't see the same details in the "About" menu.
I should have made a backup of the original ROM, unfortunately, I didn't. Too late now.
If you want the ROMs let me know, I can send all of them to you.
They are the "stock" version from May, July and September. I also have another ROM that is supposed to be a port of the N9500 which seems to be pretty much the same thing but with different background color in the menus and missing background pictures. So the following build.prop is from that July ROM.
My front camera isn't working, but it never did even with the stock ROM.

And many thanks in advance for working on this! I have been looking for a ROM for a long time!

Hi bro,
Well from the build.prop I would say our phones are the same It's a real shame and brave you didn't get a backup first before you flashed a new rom. ( Not recommended to others  )
Did you flash the boot.img too or just system ? If you have the stock boot.img there is a build.prop in there too which will show the true id of your phone. :fingers-crossed:
Get @michfood awesome boot & recovery repack utility for windows V2. Here Unpack to desktop. Then copy your boot.img to the folder then drag and drop it on to the MTK unpack.bat It will make a "boot" folder and in there you can find the contents of your boot.img look in rmdisk folder for your build.prop
As you can see from my build.prop my phones build date is October so slightly newer than the one's you have but please feel free to upload them some place to share. Recomend https://mega.co.nz it's FREE :good: plus you get 50gb storage and you dont get loads of popups and false download links also no need for spliting larger files as some of these JB backups can hit 1gb without trying
I will be uploading and posting my stuff tomorrow and some tut's etc etc for the newcomers. So please stay tuned
Thanks for the Thanks btw. Just hit the thanks button if I helped
Regards bigrammy.
I am uploading the ROMs that I have... Do you want the link(s) as PM? It will take about 24h... My upload is slow.
I am not sure if I still have my original boot image. I might have it, but when I tried the MTK_Unpack, it generated a folder with a bunch of files and folder, but there is no build.prop.
I don't have a Linux OS on hand... Do you want my boot.img that might still be the original one?

Hi, Sure you can post the ROM links here if you like :good:
Just try include as much info as you can about each of them maybe you could just pull the build.prop for each so people can check it to see if it matches up with there phones.
Also put a disclaimer saying people flash them at there own risk.
As for boot.img well sorry bro my mistake build.prop is in the factory recovery.img which you probably flashed over. I have been porting recoverys to these phones so I was getting confused as I have unpacked and repacked so many latley Same method applies If you still have the recovery.img. Most I have looked at have a build.prop of some descriptiton some are short version and some are full lengthen.
I use windows too so nothing I do will be in linux.
:cool
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
There are risks when flashing devices. If any one of those ROMs isn’t working, just try flashing another one… I am not responsible if you take the risk and break your phone. But note that I flashed them all and my phone is still working
You will find 4 ROMs there https://mega.co.nz/#F!opQn2ARB!YRwITQGXB-EmlVX4KBDqfA
I found all these ROMs as is on the web.
The next 3 comes from a Russian Forums and they are identified as stock ROMs (different releases May, July and September).
The guy that posted those said only the July didn’t work for him. In my case, only the July works. Flash with SP Flash Tool.
06v20_v89_gq3009hd_130529
06v20_v89_gq3009hd_130702
06v20_v89_gq3009hd_130907
This one was identified as a port from the N9500. I tried it, it worked on my phone but other than menu back ground color, it seems to see the same ROM at the user stand point. I have some minor issues with all the ROMs I tried and they are the same on every ROMs (occasional problem connecting Skype, google play that won’t update after some time). This one is a CWR backup. So you need to restore it from CWR and do a Factory reset.
StarU9501FromN9500Original
THOSE ROMs ARE ALL HAVING CHINESSE BLOATWARE, clean it after flashing using MTKDroidTools V2.51
Final note, I don’t see why anyone would need any of these ROMs. The two that I tried aren’t perfect. But if you really need a ROM, this is better than nothing I guess. Make a backup of your phone first with MTKDroidTools (I should have too). We rather need a better ROM. I hope we’ll get one.
If you need to ROOT your original ROM or any of these ones, I did it using UnLockRoot (but I had to run it a few times and skip the reboot step at some point… No more details, good luck). You can install CWR on the original ROM or any of these ones using MTKDroidTools.
Again, I am not responsible if something goes wrong. You do it at your own risks.
If you have question regarding MTKDroidTools, SP Flash Tool or UnLockRoot, ask Google. I found it all, you should be able too! 
bigrammy: You will also find there a boot image that could be either the same as the N9500 port or the original one that I had on my phone… I don’t know anymore but it seems to be the one from the N9500 ported ROM.

So we can flash it directly with the patched boot and recovery right?
What is the Phone.info? Who does SP Flash tool needs it?
...I couldn't wait so I tried it. It doesn't work. As for May, and September ROMs, I only get a black screens with some strange faded vertical lines. So I restored my previous backup (July ROM).

Hi,
What doesn't work the rom or the flash via flash tool
phone.info is just for information you need Notepad++ to read it.
Try Flash the rom with the patched boot.img and the system.img only. :fingers-crossed:
After the flash boot to recovery first volume + power and do a full wipe data cache dalvik cache then boot to system

The flashing worked. The phone display doesn't work after reboot. I can't even go into recovery.
I tried flashing only the SYSTEM and the BOOT as you asked me, and ...it WORKED!!! :good:
I beleive that all the ROMs I had weir 4.2.1. I am finally having a 4.2.2!
THANKS!
My front camera is still not working though, but that might be an hardware problem with my phone.

[DUMP][4.4.2] - I535VRUDNE1-Dump / Dev Discussion ONLY!

First of all if you are NOT a developer please do not post in this thread. This will be the one and only time I am stringent in my request. If you want to thank me or anyone who works on this project then just hit the Thanks button.
Also, Developer is just a title given by XDA. There are many developers out there without the XDA anointed title. If you are one then please feel fee to join the discussion if can contribute anything of value!
Here is how I got this dump...
I built an unmodified Stock NC1 ROM from Odin TAR. I then applied patch from hre: [Update Zip] Kitkat 4.4 update.
I removed all the SBL's and the aboot from the patch as well as neutered the stock recovery image so they would not flash to the device
Dump will not boot. We (Beanstown106, Open1Your1Eyes1, Invlisiblek) think it may be firmware / kernel related as I tried on a MF1 based device with unlocked bootloader.

Once again this is for people that want to contribute to the development of 4.4.2 on UNLOCKED devices.
Please no Thank you Posts, no ETA Posts, etc....
I just want to get this ***** running!

Here are my findings thus far (not encouraging)
1. With stock Kernel it just flashes Samsung image then goes totally black.
2. With a ML1 Compiled Kernel it flashes Samsung image then goes to the SGS3 logo and goes no further.
3. Tried a Sprint Kernel and results were same as data point 1.
I wouldn't dare flash the SBL chain, but I can't help but wonder if the RPM/TZ partitions are safe or even work. Wasn't there a case a few months ago where updating firmware was being enforced for newer d2vzw/d2lte builds since things were unstable otherwise?
Btw, GPL request for I535VRUDNE1/I535OYUDNE1 kernel and wifi source submitted. I don't expect it to help much if Sprint isn't booting, but somebody needs to keep Samsung compliant.
They always forget with Verizon. Quite stunning given how quickly they upload Sprint source, usually before OTA.
Have you talked to cnexus? I remember on the sprint side with the nd8 update there were issues regarding the firmware. Users there had to jump through hoops to update firmware before flashing any custom nd8 roms...

agree with you Macrodroid, early I got an idea to replace the ramdisk of stock 4.3 with 4.4.2(sprint) and 4.1(verizon) ramdisk by modify safestrap!
ended with no boot stuck on black screen, updated to 4.4.2 and sprint 4.4.2 booted in safestrap slot.
I think the old bootchain not compatable with kitkat.
will test the dumb later, @scrosler you can test the sprint ND8 rom it booted with safestrap.

We don't want to use SafeStrap even if unlocked devices can make use of it. Besides, you already have the latest firmware and bootloaders.
If we can manage it, we'd like a native boot with an unlocked bootchain.
I found the USC KitKat D3 Kernel source. Going to try that!
That did nothing.
They need to release the source code, plain and simple. That will be a tremendous help

Yes but you need bootable rom on locked device to make sure your tests not gone with the winds.

I know this will worked on locked devices. The goal is to get it to work on Unlocked devices.
If updated to a locked device I could have a ROM out in 15 minutes. I like the challenge of the unlocked device.
Moved to Android Development.
Have you tried either of these combinations?
1) 4.3 source kernel (with source built DTB) and 4.4 ramdisk?
2) Extracted zImage with 4.3 ramdisk?
You might be able to generate new dtb using Sprint or USCC kk source.
Any access into adb, even if you move it up in init?

Gonna give that a spin tonight.

try this out https://www.dropbox.com/s/e8jilbv0ii9ngb3/d2-3.4.zip
its not flashable but throw it in any kernel
I found the vzw flags in the sprint kernel drop, so I chopped up a m2_vzw defconfig and compiled a vzw kernel from sprint source
edit - If somebody that is stock rooted on 4.4.2 can pull config.gz from /proc we can get the official m2_vzw config from there which would allow us to compile that with sprint source (which is the same as vzw, but if there is a more up to date like maybe USC, we can use it)

I'll try that tonight as well but I do believe you can not longer get config.gz from /rpoc. I thought that changed on later Android 4.3+ builds. Certainly could be wrong on that.

OK cool, I know I can still pull it on my phone on AOKP 4.4.4 but touchwiz could be a completely different beast being that AOSP based code is more open security wise

Yeah, On pure AOSP or Nexus devices its done differently...
Here is one example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43930020&postcount=46
I will still try to poke around. If I can at least get ADB its a start!

Im going to see what I can do with the kernel, nate told me he saw a Cert.pem file in the ramdisk which is different from 4.3 but that could just have do with 3.4.x kernel base. It is redicilous that we are almost a week in and Samsung has yet to meet GPL compliance
I found where the certificate is being loaded in init

Interesting. I would then have to assume the certs have changed? And the theory of using old ram disk may possibly be affective because its looking for old certs and not new? Or maybe just try swapping init binary?
I was also wondering if grabbing the newest hlos-bin (as I have seen sel linux stuff in there as well (its just a zip file)) would help at all. Meaning having matching RamDisk and HLOS (radio).
What do you think?
Im still stuck at work so I cannot try anything.

That might work, but we would need to update the init.*.sh sctipts to load the new ril blobs and maybe also to load the 3.4.x kernel. I need to get the NC1 ramdisk down locally and look at it. I was thinking maybe setting selinux to permissive or just disabling it could maybe be worth a shot but thats just a shot in the dark.
edit - here is a boot.img with the old init in it

[GUIDE] Huawei Y5C | Y541-U02 | Honor Bee : Stock ROMs, ROM Dumping, Root & Flashing
Disclaimer
Upon following this guide, you may or may not achieve same results with others. I am not held responsible for anything unexpected that may happen to your device. Do your research first regarding the areas you do not quite understand. Follow at your own risk.
Prerequisites
Spreadtrum Flash Tool R4.0.0001 (PAC Flashing) or Flashfire (Zip flashing)
SPRD USB Driver (needed for PAC Flashing)
Male to Micro USB Cable (needed for PAC Flashing)
7-Zip
Root with SuperSU (just below, needed for first time Zip flashing)
Packet (*.pac) or Zip ROM (found below)
Rooting
Install and gain root through KingRoot android application.
Restart your phone. (I've encountered a sudden reboot when doing the steps below without this)
Replace KingRoot with SupeSU through this script.
Once the archive is downloaded, extract it. There will be a folder named root where you extract it.
Download and open Terminal Emulator.
Change directory to the root folder that was extracted:
Code:
cd /path/to/root
Then ask for root permissions:
Code:
su
Now run the first script:
Code:
sh level1.sh
Run the second script:
Code:
sh level2.sh
Leave the terminal running and open KingRoot.
Press the button at the upper right corner, and choose general settings.
Scroll down and press uninstall.
Uncheck backup and press OK.
After KingRoot has finished uninstalling, go ahead and uninstall Purify as well.
Go back to the terminal and run the third, last script:
Code:
sh level3.sh
Again leaving the terminal running, install SuperSU and open it.
Let it update the root binary through Normal method, and restart.
Notes:
Currently SuperSU's prompt for applications asking for root permissions does not work, but, changing the setting to "grant" will. Just return it to "deny" afterwards, for security. That's the workaround for now.
Dumping
Before doing anything to your device, it is advised to create a ROM dump/backup beforehand. Also make sure you have a lot of free space on your internal storage.
Open up terminal and gain root permissions:
Code:
su
Then get the partition details:
Code:
ls -al /dev/block/platform/sprd-sdhci.3/by-name
Dump each partition (X) with its name (Y):
Code:
dd =if/dev/block/mmcblk0pX of=/sdcard/Y.img
Do not forget to dump the two bootloaders:
Code:
dd =if/dev/block/mmcblk0boot0 of=/sdcard/splloader.img
Code:
dd =if/dev/block/mmcblk0boot1 of=/sdcard/uboot.img
Flashing
PAC
Extract all the downloaded archives and install the driver (either 32install for 32/86bit or 64install for 64bit OS).
Open the flash tool by double clicking the executable named "ResearchDownload".
Once the flash tool opens, click the single gear button at the top left.
Find and open the PAC ROM.
Press the play button.
Power down the device, hold the volume down button and plug it into the PC.
The flash tool will then recognize the device and start downloading binaries to it.
Once the progress column shows "PASSED", the binary download is finished and the device can now be safely unplugged.
Remove the battery, reinsert, and power the device.
Zip
Gain root if not already done so.
Open Flashfire. (press agree and the other one is up to the user)
Press the red circular button with a plus sign ( + ) on the bottom right, and choose Flash ZIP or OTA.
Find and open the downloaded Zip ROM.
There will be a pop-up for a few settings, leave it as is and press the check icon at the upper right.
Now when the pop-up closes, swipe down and press the Flash button with a lighting icon.
Press OK, and let it flash.
The device will reboot once flashing is finished.

Notes:
These ROMs are repacked and tested first before being posted, so if one of these does not work, try another. If none worked, just wait, others will share a new partition dump.
These ROMs do not contain a system, custom and cache dump because these are for unbricking for now. Prerooted full repacks are coming soon.
Stock ZIPs
Notes:
As the device refuses any custom or modified stock binaries, Flashfire is the only way to go to install zips.
These are pre-rooted, deodexed, zipaligned, de-bloated, and of course tested.
None at the moment.
Troubleshooting
If the flash tool fails to download, either the downloaded ROM is incompatible with the device, or the cable is loose.
If the device shows a white screen but the booting sound is heard, try another one.
Support
If anyone happens to have the same device model in fully working condition but seems to be different, kindly make a partition dump of it and PM the link, so it can be processed and uploaded here.

As of now, with the bootloader locked, there is none.
In future can we expect the same..........
The closest we can get is a modified stock. In the future, there might, but let us not get our hopes up.

Nextbook Ares 8 Stock 5.1.1 Problems

This thread is for Nextbook Ares 8 5.1.1
I don't have this device yet, @Conan1201 has offered to send me one, once I get it, I can begin the process of dumping the tablet, pulling the firmware, root, then TWRP.
What I would like is everyone that has this tablet, to post their build.prop and boot.img for each version they have, I am trying to see what the pattern is that is causing some versions to lose sound yet others don't.
Anyway all posts related to Nextbook Ares 8 5.1.1, should be posted in this thread, helps to keep all related posts in one thread, right now 3 or 4 threads have people posting about Nextbook Ares 8 5.1.1, most of those threads have nothing to due with this tablet.
A lot of people are contacting me, after failed attempt of using @greatbal instructions or backup, I have nothing to due with @greatbal, I did read his thread yesterday downloaded the backup he provided, unpacked it, and see that is for an entirely different device, His backup manufacturer Logitech.
It should be, manufacturer Yifang.
Yifang version is nxm890bap
Logitech version is ebm890bap
They indeed two different tablets, one might be able to port one version to the other, but just trying to use one version over the other would cause problems.
Anyway @greatbal did let people know what version he had, and I believe if you had the same version @greatbal had, you would have been fine, the differences in the hardware/software isn't @greatbal fault.
Update 3-22-2017
I have received the tablet from @Conan1201.
Below is a part of the build.prop, an important part is the last line ro.build.flavor, that was the fix for sound on my tablet.

Ok, some back ground, I got the tablet today, I work out of town stay in a hotel, my wife brought me the tablet and a small Linux laptop.
Setup tablet, enable usb debugging, reboot to bootloader
adb reboot bootloader
Now unlock bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
the tablet is supposed to reboot into recovery and format itself, it didn't I gave it 3 or 4 minutes.
I manually reboot tablet.
Got boot screen up android down recovery
choosing down, I get boot image error, which means recovery partition is locked, due to oem unlock.
boot into bootloader
fastboot oem lock
now reboot recovery no problem.
so recovery partition is out.
This tablet can have a permanent TWRP recovery, only temp TWRP recovery for now, I pulled system, recovery.img, boot.img, fastboot.img,ESP.img.
I backed doored the device and in doing so lost sound, I was able to recovery sound by examining different boot.img and build.prop there is always a pattern just finding it sometimes is the *****.
The pattern ro.build.flavor
Update 3-23-2017
Ok, I put together a Linux / Windows package to let people backup their tablet, you should do this before you root device or anything else some people lost sound, restoring your backup made by this recovery will fix that.
Code:
This is for LInux
You need to already have your tablet setup with usb debugging enabled.
adb reboot bootloader
sudo ./fastboot oem unlock
sudo ./fastboot format userdata (note this is optional, you will lose everything on internal sdcard.)
sudo ./fastboot format cache
sudo ./fastboot.sh
on tablet volume down until you see RESTART BOOTLOADER
power
sudo ./trigger 4
wait for recovery to load will take several minutes.
do a backup to micro sdcard, don't backup data or cache as nothing is there, back up system recovery boot to micro sdcard
Code:
I am don't use windows much from memory the below should be correct, look over it if something needs to be changed let me know.
Note [user=4821597]@social-design-concepts[/user] has a complete windows version of tethering twrp, you still need my files to switch bootloader, once that is done you can then use [user=4821597]@social-design-concepts[/user] tool, or continue using below instructions.
This is for Windows
You need to already have your tablet setup with usb debugging enabled.
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot format userdata (note this is optional, you will lose everything on internal sdcard.)
fastboot format cache
fastboot flash ESP esp.img
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
on tablet volume down until you see RESTART BOOTLOADER
power
Note if you are going to use [user=4821597]@social-design-concepts[/user] windows tool use it now, else continue with my instructions.
fastboot flash /tmp/recovery.zip recovery.zip
fastboot flash /tmp/recovery.launcher recovery.launcher
fastboot oem start_partitioning
fastboot flash /system/bin/logcat recovery.trigger.new
fastboot oem stop_partitioning
wait for recovery to load will take several minutes.
do a backup to micro sdcard, don't backup data or cache as nothing is there, back up system recovery boot to micro sdcard
Note [user=4821597]@social-design-concepts[/user] tool listed below, any question on his tool ask in below thread, I have no personal experience, but I know it has helped many windows users.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/intel-android-devices-root-temp-cwm-t2975096
Download tethered recovery package
You need to extract to use, set permission on files if needed.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767147708
Now that the bootloader has been replaced flashing permanent recovery is possible, I already have permanent recovery on mine.
You all need a few more steps, the first is above backing your tablet up.
Next you need to get familiar with Carliv Image Kitchen for Android - unpack/repack boot-recovery
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/tool-cika-carliv-image-kitchen-android-t3013658
Those backed up boot.img need to be modified, we will get into that later.

I only backed up one of them in twrp, which is not img format. How to get it for you? The tablet itself has been flashed Greatbal's boot.img.

I already downloaded @greatbal boot.img, I don't need it, so all your tablets have been flashed via @greatbal backup?
the one you backed up with twrp should have backup up your boot.img, it will be called boot.emmc.win.

Ok, thanks I built a recovery based on this boot.img and 1.0.6 build.prop.
Once I receive the tablet I will pull the build.prop from that tablet to compare with yours, if it's correct or close enough I will then dump the tablet's firmware.

Everything the recovery backed up would be correct and usable, a recovery just backs up.
The recovery doesn't modify the backup in anyway, what ever a recovery backed up is what was on the device.

Does anyone use Linux? I want to know what happened when using trigger 4?
Has anyone backed up ESP?
Would anyone be willing to back up ESP and upload it?

I have received the tablet from @Conan1201 , I work out of town, be a couple day before I am able to release anything.
I do have some info, I am posting to OP.

The temp recovery is up, if people use it and share their back ups, everyone's tablet will get fixed.
We need a backup of each flavor, restoring the correct flavor, to the correct tablet fixes sound.
The recovery will back up recovery, boot, and system, restoring these on the correct tablet returns tablet to out of box, eg working sound.
We can't trick the tablet, it knows what flavor it originally came with, only restoring the exact flavor fixes the problem.

More people should join. I don't have any virgin nextbook ares 8 now.
Just found the topic. Thanks a lot for working on this.
I got two Ares8 without sound due to the root process. I was able to find another unrooted table and followed the exact steps to backup the boot/recovery/system as in the first post.
However, after shutdown, my unrooted one will no longer boot. It got stuck at the next book logo screen for a few minutes, then reboot to this screen again. I could still get into the boatloader and the stock recovery, but what do I do now?
I also used the backup to restore one of my rooted Ares 8, before realizing this. It also wont even boot.

Reboot to what screen, I am not following you.
Upload your recovery and boot that you backed up.
They will be called
boot.emmc.win
recovery.emmc.win
Also a flashable rom has been upload for my version see post two, I still need your
boot.emmc.win
recovery.emmc.win
and exact details of what you did.
the boot.img needs to be modified, else it takes a while to boot cause by default the boot.img is force encrypted, in stock recovery do factory rest and in time the tablet will boot, cause it has to encrypt.

Here are the files I backuped following the first post.
Once powered on, it will stay on the nextbook logo screen (also a line of text saying "Powered by android"). After a while, the screen will flash once ( that is hwy I thought it rebooted) then it goes into the stock recovery (the lying down android with the chest open) and I could go into the recovery by pressing power+ volume up.
The other tablet, restored using the backup, is the same situation.

That's not the recovery you gave me recovery.emmc.win.md5 I need recovery.emmc.win
anyway in stock recovery factory reset and you should be fine.

Install Directions:
Click button below to view install steps...
To flash the 21a ZIPs you need TWRP installed.
A. Stock ROOTED.
Click the button below to view steps
1. Download the following two files and place on G5 internal or external SD card.
Have encrypted data and no external sdcard? ADB Sideload in TWRP.
LG-RS98821a-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip
Latest SuperSU [BETA] Thanks to Chainfire!
2. (re)Boot into TWRP
3. Install the COMPLETE ZIP and SuperSU ZIP:
LG-RS98821a-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
Click the button below to view steps
You need the COMPLETE zip + either the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip OR boot repack zip.
Data unncrypted users: Use no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip. Those keeping data encryption: boot repack zip.
If you don't want TWRP/root and don't want to use a KDZ.. flash the COMPLETE zip by itself.
1. Download files and place on G5 internal or external SD card.
Have encrypted data and no external sdcard? Use ADB Sideload in TWRP.
LG-RS98821a-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip
no-verity-opt-encrypt-4.1.zip.Thanks to @jcadduono!
android-boot-repack.zip. Thanks to @jcadduono!
2. (re)Boot into TWRP
3. Install the COMPLETE ZIP + noverity/bootrepack ZIP:
LG-RS98821a-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01.zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip OR android-boot-repack.zip (Install > select zip > swipe to confirm/flash)
The only way to get 21a installed is to take the official OTA update from 11d.. or flash this ROM. There is no 21a KDZ at this time.

@autoprime testing now. Works great from either 11c or 11d as long as you make sure you keep twrp.
Good to have these as a backup, since there still isn't a 21a KDZ.
I guess the prerequisites are to 1) have the bootloader unlocked and 2) install TWRP, so that you can flash the 21a ZIP files.
I ended up relocking the 21a bootloader so some other apps would work, such as Android Pay.

Will this help in making custom roms? Just curious.
Sent from my SM-N920F using Tapatalk
Are you still planning on doing the 11D Files by any chance?
I sent the files to autoprime he said he will create the 11d zip and upload when he has the time.
Flashed the files in twrp formatted data, wipe caches etc,
bootloops even wiped in stock recovery but didnt work,
couldnt flash 11c again so had to us BP 10h
now no LTE hope KDZ comes soon
You wrote you flashed the "files" plural. You should of only flashed the complete zip after you wiped. Also did you go from BP 10h straight to the 21a? I am not sure if anyone has tried that yet and not sure if that could be the cause of the problem. Most people flashed from BP 10h then flashed the 11c complete zip and if they had any boot looping problems the then were able to flash the 11c kdz in LGUP to fix the boot loop.

Once you got to 11d, could of just did the OTA to 21a. That's what I did.

not possible to tell without being able to look at the files beforehand or someone checking after the update.
I have rs98821b installed and can confirm that the anti rollback number is still 1.

Cool thank you I will unroot and install then. Thank you
Hi! If I have root and TWRP then how do I install the update?
How I did it. I just factory reset and wiped everything in twrp then flashed the complete rs98821a zip that autoprime put together for us and then was able to install the OTA update. You will have to reinstall Twrp and root but you do not have to mess with the bootloader.

first, you will need to buy an RS988 battery module (the bottom piece of the phone that pops off).. these are on ebay and other places.
this will make the "supported module" message go away and download mode etc should work again.
you flashed a rom with a bootloader/modem containing anti-rollback version 01.. yet all H850 and other international devices use anti-rollback version 00. This means your phone will now only accept bootloader/modems that are ARB v01 or higher.. and that you cannot use bootloaders using ARB v00. This means you will no longer be able to flash any H850 KDZ files through download mode since all the stock international KDZs are ARB v00. And if you try to flash an ARB v00 bootloader/modem/rom through TWRP to get around the KDZ block.. it will brick your phone and it will not boot up again.
Hopefully RS988 rom/bootloader/modem works well enough on your H850 because you are now. The system (rom) and boot (kernel) partitions on your phone do not care about ARB version.. so it's possible you may be able to get some sort of hybrid setup going.. where you use a RS988 bootloader/modem but a H850 system/boot partition. That may or may not work and the only way to know for sure is to experiment.
Just be sure to never flash an ARB v00 bootloader (or a rom that contains the bootloader.. like all of my COMPLETE zips for various devices) or the phone will not boot up again and it will be stuck in qualcomm 9008 mode.. which only can be fixed by LG or some various people in china who offer mail in service.

First of all, thank you very much form your answer. And yes, what a big mess!! Too many risky (for clueless guys like me) find ROMs for different versions of same phone.
Then, following steps can be:
1. buy an RS988 battery module
2.
- act like my phone were an RS988 flashing ROMs for this model?
- or flash only RS988 bootloader and modem and then H850 ROMs without that?
thanks again
