K1 Can't connect to S8+ hotspot - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a K1 running Android 7.0 and am having issues getting it to connect to the hotspot on my Verizon Samsung S8+. Wondering if anyone has run into this before? My Windows 10 laptop connects just fine.
The tablet sees the hotspot, starts to connect then disconnects.

Wrong PW?

No wrong password. I confirm I also have the same issue. And I found more forums online with people claiming they have the same problem. I also can connect to my Galaxy S8+ "mobile hotspot" with my 2 laptops and even from my SmartTV... but *NOT* from my Nvidia Shield K1.

Seems like the s8 doesn't like Nvidia..
Oooh, and make sure to use 2.4ghz!! 5ghz is controller only for K1.
Or
Try it the other way around.

You haven't been able to find any kind of workaround yet, have you?

I've have to make my hotspot unsecured with no password but make it not visible and then find it using the tablet. Only way it works with my sprint s8+

Reporting in - also seeing it on my TMO Galaxy S8 and Shield Tablet K1.
Had to unsecure it to make it work as well which sucks, but at least you can enable hardware MAC filtering for security. Hopefully they fix this soon.
For reference, I had a Galaxy S6 before and had no issues...not sure if this is something on Samsung or Nvidia's side.

It's something on Samsung Nougat.

Same problem. Any fixes??

3G modems on G-tab

Anyone tried connecting a USB 3G USB dongle with the G-tab? Will they work?
I'm thinking of getting one of these to put inside my G-tab if I can find a place inside that will fit.

You know, I think this might be possible.

The specs on this Android tablet (I think its the ZPad?) claim that USB 3G Modems are supported. It even lists the specific models.
EDIT: This is one of the models listed on the specs page. http://cgi.ebay.com/ZTE-CDMA-REV-A-EVDO-Modem-Model-AC-581-/330492290336?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf2e02520#ht_2134wt_1139
EDIT 2: Well I messaged zetronix through their website and left a message on their support number. We will see what kind of a response I get. ^_^
I plugged my AT&T USB 3G modem (Mercury) into the device and nothing happened. Nothing showed up in "wireless" settings. Don't think it works with TNT-Lite.
pls feel free to try your 3g sticks against my kernel offering.
pls snap some dmesgs, and give me the chip/device ids if it does not detect it, and i can add them in.
I have an air card that I will test. If I can get this working, I would be a very happy sysadmin. It shows up in dmesg, even with stock, but from there nothing.
1. Build a kernel module.
2. Configure kernel to support wired ethernet via the kernel module.
3. Insert module.
4. Configure the GTablet to use the new network interface.
I considered doing this to use my iPhone as a USB network interface, but the adhoc wireless network support from MyWi 4.0 was good enough.
That would be really cool especially with the newer 4G usb modems being offered by my carrier. But for now I simply use Wireless Tether on my rooted Droid X and use the sweet unlimited 3G to access the internet via wi-fi on my G Tablet.
Since I already have to carry the phone around and I have an unlimited data account it seemed like a good idea.

This but with my Evo... .
But I do understand how some of you get corporate data plans with those usb sticks... It would be nice for you to use
Has anyone managed to get this to work, I was at at&t today and almost got an aircard (3g Dongle) today but wanted to research a bit.

[Q] us version root availble yet?

Well i have my transformer and i wanted to be able to connect it to my phone but my phone is only provifig ad hoc conection. I was wondering if thereis a way around this. I was told that rooting the device might makeit easier. I woudnt mind rooting the device(if possible since it is a us version)but if there is another way for me to get wifi access through my phone i will take it.
I have a touch pro 2
On sprint that is running enery rom
Thanks guys
rooting wont help it recognize ad-hoc, what you can do is do a bluetooth tether instead of wifi.

Thanks....is there an app on how to do this? Im used to just wifi tether and ive never blueooth tether before. Ive looked at my bt setting and everytime i get them to pair the only option i have is for my phone to use the transformer as an internet access which is the total oposite of what i want to do.
yes, how do you do Bluetooth Tether?
I have my SGS running Wireless Tether Root, on BT tether mode. But the Asus Transformer can't see the PAN tether service after I pair the phone and tablet.

Does your phone have wifi hotspot capability? If so root it and turn it into a wifi rounter. Then you just connect to the phone as a wifi device. That's what I do. Not on the TF yet but with netbooks, ipads and an archos gen 8 tablet.

Oops thats a new Winmo phone isnt it? I can do it but you'll be charged for it.

[Q] hopefully 2 simple questions about tethering

Sorry if this might be in the wrong forum.
I was able to successfully tether my SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 8.9 to my DROID 3 phone via bluetooth. I also use verizon.
1. I have read on various forums that many people have gotten this setup to work. Why hasn't Verizon disabled this? Can they even detect this?
2. Which is faster or more reliable? Bluetooth or USB tethering? How would I tether my tablet to my phone via USB ?
Thank You~!

tethering issues

Is anyone else having issues tethering? While running Wireless Tether on my phone, I can connect to the AndroidTether without any issues from my laptop (which is sitting right next to my tablet). On my tablet, I can see the network, and when I click on "connect" it will list it as "saved", but it never connects. What am I missing?

Is your tablet rooted? You may be having issues due to "ad-hoc tethering" which by default can prevent tethering. Check out this thread here which may provide the solution.
Do you have "routing fix" enabled in wireless tether? I have been running my Infinity with my rooted Evo LTE and that is what I had to do to fix it.
Works fine for me.

Damn, it never occurred to me that the tablet would need to be rooted to grab an ad-hoc connection....
Thanks!

Enable ad hoc tether

Hello I was wondering this tablet can connect to ad hoc tethering yet? Is there a wpa supplicant file someone could point me to because I couldn't find anything while searching. Thank you.

Easy solution, to which no root is needed, is to install FoxFi on your phone. They removed it from marketplace. Just Google for the apk. Install it on your phone. Then install the add on that's in the marketplace. Works flawlessly for me. I had same issue where newer ICS and JB builds on my nexus 7 and note 10.1 wouldn't recognize the old wifi tether app, which used ad hoc tethering and needed root on phones. I've used Foxfi on my old Atrix phone and worked. Tablet picked it right up. Now I have my new Samsung Galaxy S3, which is completely stock. Installed foxfi on that also. Now I can tether my 4g LTE speeds to all my tablets with no issue. No root was needed on phone. App works great on stock phone. Its likely your phone is supported if its a decent/popular android phone.
I don't thinknthe supplicant file method will work on the note. I know I tried it on ly nexus 7 and didn't work. FoxFi solved everything
Supported stock no root.I use my tab more 10.1 connected to cell all the time.
Supported out of box

I think its more so, what particular app people are using to make the ad hoc tethering connection attempt. As people have been reporting not being able to connect. I know, on my older rooted atrix, the tablet wouldn't see the connection using the old tried and proven Wireless tethering app. FoxFi solved the issue for me. I think people that have paid hotspots feature on their phone can get it to work out the box(may be wrong). But alot of others, not just this tablet alone(prime, nexus 7, etc..) have had issues getting ad hoc tethering to work since newer builds of ICS. On prime, we used an alternate wifi supplicant file to get it to work. But later updates caused that to not even work anymore.

Funny you mention that. As I have the old unlimited data plan on VZW I had to spring for the additional hotspot charge to tether my S3. Worked great for a couple weeks then stopped. "Saw" the phone but couldn't lock on an IP. Before the last update. Both phone and tab were rooted stock at the time. Staff at VZW shop had no idea why. Figured I'd ask to not give any cause to jeopardize my plan. That said, FoxFi works great!
Weird.
confirmed working for me..
Foxfi running on papasmuffs CM9 HTC EVO build..
using 'Pdanet Tablet' on the Asus Transformer stock rooted .27
Thanks for the thread as was going nuts playing with the old tether program..

Only other thing I can think of is to try using the wireless tethering app. But instead of wifi, choose Bluetooth tethering in options. Its not as fast as wifi but still good for normal usage. Any connection is better than none I was using Bluetooth tethering for a while until I found solution.
Hello there,
I'm pulling this post back from the depth of the forum to ask if there is any news on this front... Foxfi is not working on my phone (motorola Defy), and neither is Wifi Tether. Bluetooth tethering (via PDAnet for example) works but is extremely slow...
Would you have a suggestion either for an android wifi tethering program that supports interface mode, or about a way to add support for ad-hoc wifi in the note 10.1 ?
Many thanks.
