I am trying to enable dual windows feature in honor 6x for all the apps but without the root as I just bought the phone and as far I like it !
Please does anyone know trick or whatever to enable this feature as I like to watch video and search at the same time!
Go to Developer settings (if not present just click the build number in about phone in settings until developer settings is available) then at the bottom of the developer options theres an option saying force activities to be resizable. It will force app to use split screen unless its not really supported by app (like UC Browser)
force activities to be resizable.
Where bottom I dont have this option I scrolled multiple time one by one.

Are you on marshmallow? This feature is supported for all apps in Nougat only I suppose.

There is no force activities to be resizable in your developers option?

Is anyone aware of a way to make all (or select) apps default to open in floating window mode instead of full screen?
I just got a Samsung keyboard dock and have set up some shortcuts to open frequently used apps but they open in full screen and I would rather they be in a window. Same with opening from the app drawer.
Thanks!

It can only be done if your device is rooted. Then you can use Multi window manager (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bjbinc.multiwindowmanager)

Thanks, yeah I'm using that and it has enabled me to put any app in a window which is great, but if you start one from the app drawer (or more importantly, from a keyboard shortcut) it still comes up full screen and I have to manually window it. I'm trying to get apps to launch in windowed mode by default.

Don't know of any app that can change the default window mode. Not sure if it's even possible with Android. I think it can only be done on each individual app, which is why it can only be done through shortcuts. Mulit window manager as well as Android itself can not differentiate one app from another. With Windows it can be done by using keywords. Try contacting the developers of Multi window manager to suggest it. You're not the only one who would love that feature.
What sucks is all of this should already be natively part of Android, including multi window. Not sure why it wasn't from the beginning. I'm guessing it used to be a limited memory issue.
I just thought of a possible workaround. You might be able to use "Tasker" and make profiles for individual apps to open a certain way or change the window mode automatically when opened
If you try it let me know what happened..

Yeah, I'm trying to see if I can displace my laptop for most of the things I do to run my business where I usually have a lot of smaller windows open and jump back and forth between them, minimizing when not in use. Apps opening in full screen mess up my flow haha...
I'll hit up the developers of Multi Window and see if they have any suggestions. Tasker... I suppose I could give it a shot; bought it a long time ago but never really delved into it. Something to mess with while watching the playoffs
Thanks for the tips, I'll report back.
Floating window shortcuts
I know this thread is kind of old, but you can do this with an app on the app store called "FW Shortcuts". You have to buy the pro version if you want to be able to create a shortcut for any app, but it is well worth it.
Hi all,
Picking this up as soon as tmobile has it, but I'm curious about something. The hardware is there, but does the software have any sort of multi app / multiwindow feature?
Though early used, I enjoy being able to split my screen with two apps on my note 3.
Thanks
We have the mini apps (recent apps key) but i haven't found any other options

This is the only option so far on Sony phones.
And in my opinion its enough.
Im moving from a galaxy as well and that was one of my concerns. If you enjoy multiqindow all the time, the galaxy line is going to be your best bet; however, if you use it every now and then, I think the z3 might be an option. It has something like popup browser on the note, but only a few apps do this (maybe 5). You can move them around your screen while doing stuff in the background still. You can also resize them.
And you can make any app to be smallapp in smallapp settings

My fault, not any app, "any widgets".
When you open with recent tabs, you have arrow on up on left side > then + on upper right corner > Widgets.
I dont know why i remember that was all apps.
Sorry.
I cannot seem to find settings widget where i could add shortcuts to battery settings etc when i try to add a widget to do that. i have tried samsung's launcher and also nova launcher. is there any way to add shortcuts to settings?

Using Nova:
Get into the home widgets selection, add a Nova widget of type Activity, then scroll the list until you find Settings, expand it and scroll up to the Battery item. Select it.
There you can also find all the possible shortcuts.
(I've translated the menu items from my Italian version)
Trying to add App Mgr using Nova Activities. Doesn't work. When I click or hold the setting it opens App Mgr but doesn't add it to home screen

If you use QuickShortcutMaker
it works fine
See screenshots.
Thanks. But got it to work finally. No need for another app.

any chance you could share how this is done?
To be honest , not sure. I just kept trying normal processes for adding widgets, then choosing nova activities, and under settings there are a ton of options for apps/app mgr, I kept trying different ones and one stuck.
Can not use for nova launcher.

I could be the dumb but which in the list of Settings shortcuts did you choose in QuickShortcutMaker to make the shortcut to the resolution changer?

Thanks for this.
The only thing that worked for me (Samsung S9+, Android 8.0.0) was the Nova launcher. QuickShortcutMaker went through the motions, but didn't actually put a shortcut on the home screen.
The Nova launcher works a treat, but why do Samsung oblige me to replace their launcher within the first half hour of owning their otherwise very nice phone?
I always switch on "Do not disturb" before going to sleep, as I use my phone as an alarm clock, so need to leave it switched on, but of course don't want alerts all night. As you can imagine, the last thing I want to be doing when I'm tired is effing around with settings, so having a shortcut to DND is essential.
The other shortcut I created was to the "Change Home" setting so I can easily switch back and forth between Nova and the "Samsung Experience" whenever I want. And you know something's going to be dodgy when they call it the "Something-or-other Experience"
Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!

it may be necroposting..but I'm having this exact same issue on android 10..I'd be infinitely happy with some sort of widget for this task...
theres a way to do it via the widgets screen when using nova launcher..I cant remember the exact steps for it.
Going into multitasker view, not all apps are able to open as floating windows. Any reasons why? Any way to force it for all apps?

Thanks for confirming that it doesn't work.
I wonder what makes some eligible and others not.
Ok quick edit! I had to reboot and *something* did happen: some apps did gain split windows and floating, but oddly enough not all.
Also, I was sorta hoping to get multiple floating windows, but once you open one the other closes.
Hello to everybody!
Is there a way to use split screen mode while using nova launcher????
I wish to find out as well ?
Works on mine with Nova installed, but only when another app is already open, not when you are on your "homescreen" (or another page of Nova if you have more than one).
"Floating Window" mode works fine on Nova though, with no other apps open.
Swipe in from left or right to open the Multi-Window dock....
Quick press an app for Floating Window.
Drag an app from the dock to the top or bottom of the screen for Split Screen mode, but as I said this only works when an app is already open, so open one of the ones you want normally first, then open the dock and drag the other app you want to the top or bottom to give you split screen.
Not all apps are compatible with Split Screen, but there is an option in Settings/System & updates/Developer Options to "Force activities to be resizable" which may help.
Actually, you can use split screen on Nova Launcher. You just have to trigger it differently. I have no idea why. This is just the result of trial-and-error.
First turn on "force activities to be resizable" from developer options.
Now when in an app. Long press the recent apps button, release it and then press the home button. This works on my Samsung J500F with unofficial Lineage OS 17.1. Let me know if it works

Oh. Too bad
However, if you go to recent apps, and long-press the icon of a particular app, it shows two options- app info, and split-screen, in Lineage OS. Any luck with that?
