Anyone successfully using Sideload VR for their S8+? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi,
Has anyone successfully used SideloadVR on their S8+? I downloaded the app, even a third-party "game" but after the initial screen, nothing seems to happen. The controller isn't recognized and while the game is "playing" I can't move around at all in it.
Is there something I need to be doing to make the game work or something more to make SideloadVR work? There's not a lot of information about the SideloadVR usage except to say to install and use it. Unless I am not looking in the appropriate place.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same question.

It would be awesome if I could get it to work on S8. It worked on my old Note 5.

FAQ
Q: What is all this about hacking the PS3?
A: A few weeks ago, someone released a USB tool that allows you to switch any PS3 into "dev" or "debug" mode. The long and short of this means that the PS3 has finally been hacked and homebrew is a real possibility. After a lot of clever reverse engineering, the hack was documented and distributed under the name "PS3Groove". Some clever people ported that code so that other USB devices could be used for this purpose. It just so happens that your smartphone is also a USB device and this was a project to port THAT code so that your Android smartphone could be used to hack your PS3.
Q: Cool! Where do I start?
A: Slow down there, cowboy. This is pretty technical stuff, if you've come here from another forum, or are unfamilliar with terms like "recovery", "flashing", "rooting" and such, take a deep breath and look around the forums for more information, as any mistakes could brick your phone.
First, you'll need to know if your device is compatible. There is a list of android devices maintained here: http://psfreedom.com/wiki/index.php?...atibility_list
This will tell you if your device is supported, as well as point you to where to go if it is.
Q: Ok, so I have a supported device, now what?
A: Just owning the device isn't enough. You'll need to root it to enable you to install custom ROMs. Once you're confident about installing custom ROMs, you're ready to rock and roll! Now, this IS the Desire dev forum, so from here on I'll assume you have a HTC desire, rooted and ready to go. If you have a different device, refer to the link above, or look on your device's own forum.
Q: What ROMs are compatible with this?
A: If you thought that you might need a specific ROM - you'd be right! The whole hack revolves around the kernel that's loaded into the ROM. Essentially, this means that not all ROMs will be able to do this. Right now, if you're looking for an easy solution, install OpenDesire. CyanogenMOD may well work, too, as well as ROMs based off either of those, but no guarantees or promises are made.
Q: What about Sense ROMs?
A: Unfortunately, this isn't feasible. HTC Have yet to release the source code for Sense 2.2, which means we can't port this into it. So if you have a ROM that you like running sense, you'll have to make a choice - Sense, or PS3 hacking? There's no middle ground with this. Alternatively, you can just nandroid between the two ROMs, however you'll soon see how tedious this can get =P
Q: Ok I've got Open Desire installed, now what?
A: Opendesire by itself is just a damn good ROM, not a lean, mean, PS3-hacking machine, so you'll need to add something else. The details are kept here, but essentially there are two update zip files. One will "enable" the PS3 hack and one will "disable" it. You flash those files directly over the ROM itself, using your favourite recovery.
Q: BDMV or Homebrew?
A: In order to keep PSgroove away from Sony's legal team, they released it without the ability to play backup PS3 games, only PS3 homebrew (to which there is currently very little, but stay tuned!), they did this by disabling BDMV. So there are TWO "enable" files. One is "Homebrew", which is a direct port of the PSGroove code and will not play backup games and the other is "BDMV", which will play both PS3 homebrew AND backups.
Q: Did you say BACKUPS?!
A: Yer darn tootin' I did! Legal backups, of course. One of the few pieces of homebrew available is the Backup Manager. This is a simple application that will let you backup a GAME THAT YOU OWN onto an internal or external USB hard drive, then play it without the disk. You'll still need a disk in the drive, but any PS3 game will work.
Q: Where do I get Backup Manager?
A: Backup manager is built with the PS3 SDK, which means it's technically illegal software, so you wont find it on this site, but it really isn't hard to find with a bit of googling. Whatever you do, don't ask for it here!
Q: Hey guess what, I found a copy of backup manager, how do I use it?
A: Ok, so before you start, do yourself a checklist:
You'll need -
Rooted phone,
running a ROM with the PS3groove code loaded onto it (e.g. open desire with klutsh's enable zip flashed on top of it),
USB cable plugged into your PS3 going to the phone.
Phone switched on and on the home screen.
A PS3 running Firmware 3.41 (support for earlier Firmwares will come later, but don't ask when).
Make sure there's no disk in the drive.
Step 1: POWER OFF your PS3 COMPLETELY. This means flipping the switch off at the back of it (if it's a PHAT PS3) or UNPLUGGING it if it's a SLIM PS3.
Step 2: Switch it back on and IMMEDIATELY press the "disk eject button". When I say immediately, I mean it - you've got 0.2s to press it!
you'll notice your PS3 takes longer to boot, a few extra seconds. Once it has booted, you'll notice under GAME, you'll have a couple of extra options.
Step 3: Plug in your USB drive with manager.pkg on it, then select "* Install Package File". Select manager.pkg and it'll install, giving you a new Icon.
Step 4: Backup manager is now installed. Run it and put a disk in the drive. You'll see it appear in the list and it'll give you an option to back it up. It'll first ask if you want the external drive, then it'll ask if you want to install it to the Internal drive. More on that later.
Now, go make yourself a cup of tea. In fact, make several, Blu-ray disks are frickin' huge and take time to backup.
...................
Ok, so the game is backed up. Go ahead and put it back in it's box, where it'll be safe from harm. Now, get yourself ANOTHER PS3 game, any game at all and put it in the PS3. In backup manager, you'll see both your disk game and the backed up game. Select the backup game and press "X".
You'll now be kicked back to the XMB. But look at the disk icon. It should be showing you the game you backed up, NOT the game in your drive. You'll need a legit PS3 game in your drive for this to work, you'll also need to make sure you're running BDMV enable, or it wont work (it'll still show you the game in the drive).
Q: Sounds great! But what's the catch?
A: Actually, there are several. For one, the external hard drive must be FAT32, or it wont be detected by the PS3.
Because of this, any games that have files greater than 4Gb wont work (for example, God of War III), you'll need to install it onto the INTERNAL drive.
Even then, some games may not work at all. Luckily, there are a few lists showing which games work, which don't and which only work on the internal drive.
Oh and some games require you to delete all of their savegame data before they'll load. Sorry.
Furthermore, things like DLC, patches, etc. tend to not work, but this is very early days at the moment, so sit tight!
Q: What's this I hear about "stealth" backups?
A: Quite simply, everyone is expecting Sony to want to protect their precious PS3, which will likely come in the form of a banwave for anyone doing this. Make no mistake, do not assume for a second that you wont get banned for doing this. Still, some people believe that they might be safer if they use a "stealth" Backup Manager. This is simply a version of Backup Manager that tries to make it look like you're playing a different game, like MW2. So far, despite rumours to the contrary, Sony hasn't banned anyone yet, so nobody knows just how detectable it all is.
I'm hoping something comes of this, but I wouldn't get TOO excited, the developer of this is only 15 and while I'm sure he's quite talented, he's still quite young so it could take him a while, assuming it's possible at all.
Still, I like the guy, he makes no promises, doesn't pretend to be anything he isn't and makes it quite clear what he is and isn't capable of. He's essentially said "I'll give it a shot!" and that's good enough for me.
Sorry for the double post, but there's an update on this:
http://netzke.blogspot.com/
This guy is working on an Android port and, from what he's posted, he's not far off.
I sent the kid a donation, looks liek he already has the PSGroove part of the app working.
@ neoKushan, what does age have to do with anything? i know a few kids who are 15-18 who are smarter then half the people i have met on XDA, Including my self.
there is a version compiled for the n900. i have it and it works, would be good if someone could compile for desire? it is open source

He's been exposed as a fake, unfortunately. There's a story on the front page of ps3hax about it.
I'd donate to Netzke if I had some good hard evidence that he's genuine but so far I haven't seen anything.

I'm aware. At the time I posted many people believed he had something genuine in store.
To be honest, porting over the N900 version mightn't be all that difficult.

I'm merely trying to point out that at 15, even if he's extremely talented, he's still quite inexperienced. From reading his twitter, he doesn't pretend otherwise. I completely support the guy and wish him well and by no means want to make it sound like he's a n00b or anything, I'm simply saying that he's young is all.

It's not the android phone that's being jailbroken, it's the Playstation 3 being jailbroken through the use of an Android phone.

I believe this is actually a software clone of the PSjailbreak exploit which has been re-engineered to be run off of our Android devices. I.E., Put your Android phone in "PSjailbreak Mode" and then connect to PS3, it would then perform the same functionality that having the actual USB device/dongle would provide.
A marvell idea and one that I would love to try out once the tool reaches a stable version. I'm sure over the next week or so we'll see who can actually port it and who is just 'fronting'.
I'll be subscribing to this thread for sure!
**EDIT** Seems neo beat me to the answer!
I've uploaded the binary files used on the N900 so we can get to work on the Android port.
It comprises of a kernel module and two shell scripts.
If what the other guy who's doing the android port says is true, you don't need a special kernel or anything to do this, just root access. Who knows how true that is, though.
Would be nice to see some collaboration from some devs here who know what they're doing lol
if this happens then its gonna be awesome!!
Finally region free BR!!
Netzke is obviously a scammer looking for a quick buck... he mentions in every post that 15$ will get beta access.
Yes, it looks like scam at mee too.
Anyway, looking forward to get the N900 version ported to Android (someone on PSX Scene said we just need to compile the source for the kernel of our phone)
It does appear to be all that's needed. It's a portable kernel module according to the dev. He's releasing the source later today so we wait in earnest.
Make that source release tomorrow, depending on time zone.
Was pushed on line just before he went to bed.
As for netkaz, he's scamming, first claim was donations for a server.
I offered up a full server for free for the life of the project, no response, now he's going to start on a iPhone port after he can afford a iPhone.
eavpsp, well his own private chat room was leaked, he was getting other dev's to do all the work then planned to put his name to it.
The dev that is showing most promise at the minute is qberty1337
But as already said, once the n900 kernel module source is out it should not take too long.
The PSP porting effort is a farce to be honest. We just need that N900 source code and we can get going.

Peggle available from Amazon, but Amazon claims it's not compatible with SGT

Today the 21th in the Amazon Appstore the free-for-a-day game is Peggle! However, even just trying to see the info, or maybe read the reviews, or look at the screenshots rudely pops up the message Not Compatible... And downloading it from the appstore is of course out of the question.
First, change the title to say Peggle, not Pegger...
Secondly, I just got done playing a few levels on my Tab... With a little know how posts like this wouldn't be relevant... (Like the Plants vs. Zombies post... "OMG!! IT'S OUT BUT IT DOESN'T WORK FOR TAB!!" ... Or netflix... same deal)
The trick would obviously be to make the market think you are on a different device... Changing your build.prop is quite simple (assuming root is in place), and this is what you need to change in order for the market to not think your device is what it really is... Mine was "My Wall" for a while to download Peggle.
Than, just to be safe, fire up Chainfire 3D and load up the Tegra 2/Nvidia driver, runs smooth as butter...
It's not wise to change your build.prop to much because a lot of programs revolve around it (such as swype's configuration/save files)
ALWAYS back up ANYTHING you change in your root folder... copy the build.prop over to your sd card in a backup folder before changing it.
p.s. I'm not responsible nor liable for anything you do to your device because of what you read here... I'm just a conduit of information. I also will likely not help you with any "OMG MY TAB IS BRICKED" posts because of this... If you are brave enough to change anything in your root folder, than you should do your RESEARCH!
I've changed the title, what was I thinking? Anyway, I admit was hoping somebody knowledgeable would know a way to circumvent that message, and tell us.
I have found system/build.prop, but what property did you change in that file to change the model? I noticed a number of GT-P1000's Do all of them need to be changed? You changed it to "My Wall"? Does it need to be that, or is it anything but SGT?
Thanks!
I downloaded it onto my sgs2, and then just sent it via bluetooth to my tab. Works perfectly.(I do have amazon appstore installed on both my devices.)
You are on the right path, I changed the first 3 references (maybe 4) toward the beginning of the file. Please be sure you back the file up unchanged on your sd card. When you've downloaded the game I recommend going back to that original file.
You can change it to whatever you want.

Then went to the tablet's Amazon app store and clicked on the install button.
It didnt complain about anything and installed fine.

Yup, there are various ways to trick it into working... I don't have a second device that supports it, so I just did it "the hard way" I suppose.
The initial check is right as you click download... so bypassing it on one device than downloading on another is logical... Kind of like the PSN store and multiple PS3's.
Paraphrasing my comments over at Amazon to add this forum's conversation...
I've got a Galaxy Tab (SCH-I800) and I was being told I can't use this with my Tab. What the hell?? How do you write a game that can't run on a Galaxy Tab?
Anyway, I "purchased" it on the web site using my laptop computer and the Amazon website, went back to the Tab and installed it from my available-to-download apps and it installed fine and it ran just fine.
I've played Peggle on my Xbox 360 and on my Nintendo DSi before as well, but this Android version feels a little sloppy (the opening dialog asking for username is blank, the music doesn't loop properly--it plays out and fades, then restarts--as if it's repeatedly playing an audio track that fades at the end). Otherwise, gameplay works great, zoom-in works great, etc. I don't understand why it's been blocked from installing on a bunch of systems that clearly are able to run it just fine. (another fellow with an Asus eee Transformer in another review had the exact same problem and suggested that way around the block that I described earlier.) Am I overlooking some detail as to why we're being denied this from these devices?
btyork, I'll keep that build.prop in mind, I have a feeling that may come in handy. It wasn't needed this time though, because the other-phone-trick worked beautifully. It worked just like ipnekgs described. I just installed the appstore on the wife's SGS, logged in with my account, and downloaded Peggle on it without a hitch. After that I switched back to my Tab, and Lo!, it was ready for installation on the SGT. Lovely!
I AM intrigued by stoney73's remark... Can you install an app on one phone and then send it by bluetooth to another one? Or just download the app instead of installing it? How does that work, does an installation from the appstore leave a file behind somewhere? I'd love to know where!
Thanks guys!
BTW, I'm not claiming it doesn't run on our beloved Tab, Amazon refuses to install it, claiming it's Not Compatible. In cases like this I always like to try it out myself, to see if the claim is true, as often it isn't. Chuzzle for instance definitely has graphical problems, but perseverance paid off with Peggle, as it runs beautifully, no problems at all so far (though I've played just a couple of levels). I wonder what possesed Amazon to refuse us even to download it. I've haven't seen that one before, and I've downloaded quite a few apps.
'Buying' it from the website and then installing it from 'my apps' on the tab worked here.
It may not be fully compatible with a stock galaxy tab.. I have had zero problem with it running on my tab using overcome hermes and chainfire 3D using the nvidia driver...

Same for me, played quite a few levels with no issues. I have the Alpha HC ROM installed on my SGT
Maybe it's an error. My Tab is rooted, but apart from that it's stock: not flashed, no Chainfire3D, just stock JMK, but Peggle seems to work flawlessly.
It works perfectly fine on the Tab. I have played a couple hours of it with no problem.
I did have to "buy" it from my Nexus One, but then I was able to install it on my Tab right from the Amazon app. The download took forever.

The same has happened with a few android market apps, which then require the workaround, and end up working perfectly.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
ended up finding a download link somewhere, can't remember where now.
completed adventure mode and never had a single problem.
like PvZ though, it's a big install (not so much on the SGT though)

[Q] How do I crack Order and Chaos for all devices?

I have a legitimate copy of this game as well as a paid subscription so I'm not looking to circumvent security.
The thing is my phone (Lynx 3D) is not officially supported so I have to rely on picking up cracked versions off the net every time there is an update.
The trouble is nobody is cracking the latest version to work on all devices.
I have waited for weeks, posted on a number of forums and even tried mailing some people who I know have done it in the past but so far I've had no luck.
Can anyone help me out here please?
Lol, I'm an idiot
A) I have already paid for it. I don't want or need any 'warez'
B) I am only looking to edit the apk to make it work on my device
And again!
"Software cracking is the modification of software to remove or disable features which are considered undesirable by the person cracking the software..."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_cracking
The feature I want to disable is the one that stops it working on my phone.
I stated clearly, twice, that I am not trying to pirate the app.
I am looking for a way to edit the apk to allow it to run on a device which is not supported.
I already ownit and have a paid subscription for it.
Did you contact the developer of that game?
Yes, a number of times.
Unfortunately the developer is Gameloft and they couldn't care less about supporting my phone. They have never supported popular devices like the Asus Transformer so the chance of getting them to support my obscure, Japan-only phone is a solid zero.
I'm really sorry, completely misunderstood.
Ok, they've got user forums on the order and chaos website, I think you'll get a much better response there than here
I think the easiest way to get it on your device would be to change your build.prop and edit it so that it setup as a supported device like a DroidX, HTC Thunderbolt etc. Hope that helps, good luck.
No problem
I've thought about changing the build.prop but I cannot root my phone, its locked down tight.
I KNOW its possible to crack it for all devices, I've been playing cracked versions for months now. They usually surface a day or two after the game is updated. But nobody has done it this time and I just don't know how it is done to do it myself.
I think there must be some kind of list in the apk that the game checks against your device before allowing you to proceed. If I could just find out where it is and what it looks like then maybe I could amend it myself.
Otherwise when I install and run the game it says 'Device not supported" and kicks me out.
Decompile it, checkout the androidmanifest.xml but there won't be a device list, rather things like "needs screensize X", "needs sensor X" which you can alter.
If that doesnt help, search through the code files for either a device you know is compatible or not compatible, see if you find something.
Thanks, I managed to decompile the apk and I found what I believe is the list of supported devices.
I edited one of them and changed it to my make/model.
But I'm not sure about compiling the apk again, is there an idiotproof way of doing that?

SomaFM no longer works with Android 8 apparently

So I've been holding onto an APK of the last version of SomaFM, since they discontinued Android development of the app. I just switched from an S7 Edge to a S9+ and SomaFM ceases to work. It just crashes when I try to run it (It worked fine in Android 7 on my S7 Edge). Has anyone else seen this behavior and done some troubleshooting?
Alternately, can someone make a recommendation on a SomaFM client that doesn't suck? Reading reviews on Google Play doesn't really lead me to believe there's anything good out there...

I have the same APK file too and you're right it doesn't work on Oreo anymore ?
You can use Simple Radio and add Soma to your stations.
Anyways I have a backup phone which I can still use the Sona app ☺

Thanks for the suggestions.
I guess I'll look into just using the playlist files I can grab from their website and keep an eye out in case someone more clever than I figures out why the app doesn't like Oreo.
NextRadio works quite well! But for basic FM radio
Alpha+ Player looks promising!!!

You can put Soma on Tunein also. I do that. Love the Mission Control channel!

Question Can you test this Tap,Tap port on your Galaxy A32-5G please?

Can you test this Tap,Tap port on your Galaxy A32-5G please?
It's not my app. It's an app that is posted on XDA at that forum page on April 6th, 2022.
Let me know if it works for you as it might save a lot of people time & effort in that it sounds like a great idea for an app to backport Android 12 features.
EDIT: I was asked to further explain what it does!
Note: That means nobody clicks on links! Sigh.
As far as I can tell from the XDA thread in that first link (that nobody ever seems to click on, sadly) the app just adds the Android 12 tap-on-the-back feature to earlier Androids.
Nothing more than that (as far as I know).
1. Side load Tap,Tap version 1.3 from Github.
2. Walk through the setup steps
3. Let us know if the Tap,Tap port works on your A32-5G please
a. Please let me know WHICH Galaxy A32-5G works (mine is the SM-A326U).
b. Also let me know which settings work, for example:
Device Size = for example, "Legacy 160mm [6.3in] (Large)"
Sensitivity = for example, "1st Very High" indent
c. Let me know what application you launched with the double tap on the back
(and whether or not you removed the case to get it to work)
Again, I repeat, this isn't my app. It's an app on XDA developers. I'm just a user. Like you. I tested it and it seems to work for others (according to the XDA thread) but it didn't work for me.
It could be me. It could be my phone. It could be anything. That's why I'm asking for others to add value. It's not any more complicated than that.
I tried it on mine, I also have the SM-A326U and it didn't work. I tried the same sensitivity settings and the device size settings. It might have something to do with the fact that I've heavily modified my phone(debloated, disabled, etc) but I was unable to get it to work.

Hi platless,
THANK YOU for responding as I spent a lot of time testing this and documenting it and asking on the original thread and even asking the developer (who, I know, is busy developing), and I just couldn't get it to work on Android 11 either.
I didn't know if it was just the way my phone was set up, or, more likely, whether it was due to the specific phone model (the developer told me he can't test every model and I easily concur with him on that).
Like you, I've debloated my phone, and mine is also heavily modified (I use no Google apps nor is the phone set up with a Google account for example), so we're both kind of similar that way.
What I did NOT know (until you posted) was whether anyone else on the SAME MODEL as I was on got it to work, which is an IMPORTANT datapoint which you just provided.
Thanks. I'll give up on trying to get it to work for two reasons:
a. You confirmed it won't likely work on ANY SM-A326U, and,
b. I moved the SM-A326U to Android 12 which has the feature!
The only thing left, I guess, to help others, is for those with the SM-A326U who are still on Android 11 and who have NOT heavily modified their SM-A326U to test it; but at this point, I will give up on trying to get it to work for the two reasons stated above.
Thanks for being kind hearted though, and testing it out for the team!

I forgot to mention I'm also on Android 12. I was unable to get it to work, how were you able to get it to work on Android 12? And no problem, I'm always down to test stuff!
