Is it possible to flash TMO firmware on vzw gs8+? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I know the new odin has userdata flash support, has anyone flashed TMO over vzw gs8p?

I don't think I've heard of anyone flashing user data yet
Sent from my SM-G955U using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Has anyone flashed another carrier or unlocked version yet? I did it with the S7, but I haven't seen anything with this phone yet. I would love to flash the unlocked version.

Canadian Firmware Flash?

I have an international unlocked version of the S7 and was wondering if I could flash the 930W8 Canadian firmware to this phone?
Unless there's a better answer out there...
As long as you're running the same Exynos processor, it's usually safe to cross-flash variants' /system (AP/PDA) partitions. You will definitely want to avoid flashing the CSC, and unless you're trying to access the Canadian carriers' frequencies avoid flashing the modem (CP) as well.
Make certain that you've got the correct firmware handy just in case of a brick.
I've used G900F roms for years on my old G900W8 (S5, not S7). Just don't cross-pollinate the stuff that touches hardware (i.e. modem).

The reason why is because I had previously gotten an AMERICAN SIM ONLY S7 from Amazon and I don't know what firmware it had on it. I was thinking it might have been 930W8 firmware. I started another thread about it, but short answer is that the AMERICAN SIM ONLY S7 ran a lot smoother than the one I have now. I have the international unlocked 930F now.

Go over to echoerom.com and get that rom. It's extremely smooth and fast. I have a Canadian s7 using that rom.

i am really wonder if it is possible to flash 930F firmware from a 930W8 phone, since i am helping my friend to fix a boot loop s7(w8) but i don't want to completely kill the phone.

How are you able to access the ROM. I tried and I'm denied. Also is there a specific kernel your using because it looks like the Canadian variant isn't compatible

OK I've tried every which way to get my hands on a Canadian stock firmware and it isn't happening. I cannot believe there is no way to Odin back to stock. Any ideas would be great

The US version uses SD820 whereas Canada uses the Exynos. You will likely soft-brick or even hard brick your device AFAIK.
By the way, the BEST way to get stock firmware pretty much directly from Samsung is using a tool called SamFirm. Google "samfirm xda" and it should be the first link.

if you have APH1 you can now flash API3 to have unlocked g935u

So i had taken the update for my verizon g935v which updated to APH1 which disabled you from going to the 935u... well 935u received a new update. API3 is now installed on my phone. Heres the screenshot. check it out!

No, if you don't want to root, you can have stock u firmware without root, but you're not going to have WiFi calling or volte without root, at least you had to have root before haven't checked on the new firmware.

If we update from PH1 without root can we go to PH3 and follow the root process

On sammobile there is a USA version and also a USA (Verizon) version. Is there any difference in the files?

I dont think this is a U firmware issue, I had this issue on rooted PH1 too.
Hi, when you say unlocked, you mean SIM unlocked?
As far as I know Verzon´s s7 edge comes factory sim unlocked or do I have to flash this firm to hav it sim unlocked?

SM-G930U Now Flashes to SM-G930T

With the latest update of PI3 on the SM-G930U the bootloader is now on version 4. Found out trying too flash a version 2 bootloader from Verizon firmware.
What this means? Users on the SM-G930T that wanted a bloat free smooth firmware can enjoy just that now by downloading and flashing the latest PI3 firmware on sammobile or samfirm tool.
Damn ! That's some good news after so long !

Can you root this firmware?
Edit: Root is possible.
Be careful if you want to go from 930T to 930U and then back to 930T...I had to use Smart Switch because I was getting an error when flashing AP with ODIN...

Just a note, you'll lose FM radio support. I was really hoping they would include it in the update, but no love sadly. I have the U and am considering flashing the T for it. Comes in handy at the gym for watching tv, but then I'll have bloat. Decisions decisions.
Can I flash the tmobile modem over this and get the 4x4 mimo support? Or does that also include some code in the firmware?

No issues on my end. I flashed T then back to U without any hassle. Probably is your odin or faulty usb cable or port.

A somewhat silly question but does flashing the U firmware automatically unlock the SIM? Or is it still SIM locked?

No, flashing the U firmware does not Sim Unlock the device. You must first unlock then flash if you want to switch carriers. Otherwise just flash and use your same provider SIM.

So is it true that S8 cannot be cross carrier flashed?

I have been reading about people who get their s8 network unlocked and try to flash to a different carrier firmware only to find that it does not change but stays on the original.. did samsung block this or is odin outdated? Theories??
I just got my unlock code for my ATT S8+ too and was sad to see that this may be true.

I wish it was possible but I've been told I'm just not smart enough to figure it out. I would have thought in two weeks we would have seen proof of people doing it by now.
I believe we're waiting for a newer version of Odin before we will be able to successfully flash. There's a userdata file I believe that we need to flash as well.

I've read that on several threads after they flashed everything using the current odin. How soon or often does odin usually get updated after a new phone comes out?

On the S7e it took someone making a modified ODIN to get it to work. Was very handy once completed though, but the normal ODIN could not do it.
Has anyone tried the modified Odin? I know it's linked in at least one of the Tmobile S7e threads.

The princecomsy one? I've never had to use it if that's what you're referring to. Some did, but not everyone. I didn't for any of the S7's I flashed, Sprint variant to AT&T and Verizon to US unlocked.

Yes it does, people are using it to flash Canadian firmware on the US models for less bloatware.
Also all the US models are "u " models and others have been successfully flashing other carriers firmware with regular odin.
The information is out (and here on xda where I have seen it) there guys...you just have to search for it

LR&D Carrier Switch/Root Snapdragon
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=3597473&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
Somewhere around page 45 start reading.
However this makes it generic Canadian firmware. So no volte or wifi calling. I'm guessing we're still a few weeks off to be able to move from US carrier to US carrier.
The userdata odin change is the important part (as well as using the Odin that doesn't check firmware hash).
I'm going to go Canadian this eve and then reflashing with my T-Mobile SIM in back to the 955u firmware. Which I'm guessing won't work. But we'll see!

TMO OnePlus 7 Pro

So... I have sim unlock, received bootloader unlock code from one plus... now what? From what I have read, I am able to root the stock firmware with Magisk.
If I want to go the custom rom route, it looks like a majority of the roms are based on international version and I need to convert to international first.
I did hear the TMO firmware is optimized for their Network for volte and wifi calling, so if I do change to international, what will be the advantages/disadvantages?
Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
I'm using the int version of the OP7P with a TMO US Sim and cannot report any problems, VoLTE and VoWifi do work.
I think @joemossjr found there may be a LTE band priority difference between international and T-Mobile specific ROMs. TBH, I stick to an official T-Mobile ROM primarily because I want to get the best possible performance on T-Mobile's network.
I'm on T-Mobile, but have a rooted international rom installed. VoLTE and VoWifi ALWAYS work without issues.

So what's the advantage for a rooted international rom vs a rooted tmo rom?
My understanding is that most of the custom ROMs available are based off that version, but if I stay stock and rooted, other than updates coming faster, would there be any reason to do the conversion?

Well, the international rom comes straight from oneplus, so it won't be over bloated with T-Mobile background apps. Won't have the magneta boot screen. Of course these things can be delt with in a rooted tmobile rom version. So mainly quicker updates (fixes).
Thanks for the feedback. I know the international version is way more popular than tmo, so the conversion is inevitable. Maybe someone will be able to work some magic and be able to help us figure out what the tmo optimizations are and have some kind of patch we can zip with twrp.

That would be awesome! But yeah, I'd like to know if there's a huge difference in the mobile data or whatever compared to the T-Mobile rom as well.
Anyone know? I'm just wondering if the only advantage using the T-Mobile rom over the International one is better Volte and Vowifi? Or are they pretty much the same?
Using the int version (bought it to avoid the unlock and reflash hassl, return the TMO OP7P.to the TMO shop after I found out after having asked when buying) with US and DE TMO sims, I did not find any issues. The OP7P finally supports VoLTE and VoWiFi with German TMO which the OP6 did not.
The only thing I've noticed so far running International on T-Mobile is a couple times I've lost signal completely and I'll get two SIM card symbols in my staus bar until I reboot. Otherwise it's been perfect.
I'm on TMO, bootloader unlock, rooted with twrp installed, for some reasons i can't install adaway it says not enough storage. I have plenty of storage like 230G. Can't find any answer as to why.
