As the title says, my fingerprint scanner has micro scratches when put under bright light. Bothered me at first, the rest of the body is pristine smooth. I keep mine on the official Samsung LED case.
Who else here has the same issue?
What's really the point? Things are going to get micro scratches over time with use, and the fingerprint scanner is no exception, it's pointless want to keep everything scratchless... And why worry when you can only see the scratches under a bright light in a certain angle, that won't affect real use in any way

Since you put it that way yeah true.... but I'm sure used to it by now.. maybe?
Yes it was nitpicking on my part. That's why I said I was bothered at first, but have accepted it.
And also brought it up because I have a couple of phones to compare it with. I have an iPhone 7 plus, Pixel XL and Huawei Mate 9. All phones i have been using since release day but doesn't have a single scratch on its fingerprint sensor.

The scanner is metal, not glass.
It will scratch (at least the coloring).
Fingerprint scratches s8
I have the same issue on s8
Some scratches on fingerprint
This was always the weakest part of Sammy's build quality. In owning Galaxy devices since the OG Galaxy S, I've noticed that the home buttons always had a tendency to get scratched, even after they went with the premium materials with the S6.
It'd be nice if Sammy had a sapphire crystal cover with their scanner like Apple has with TouchID but for a variety of reasons, it's probably not practical for them.

Hmmm... I was talking about the TouchID scanner only not the device itself... I've owned each TouchID iPhone since the 5s and didn't experience getting any nicks on it.
I'm generally pretty careful with my gear but even that didn't prevent me from getting nicks on the scanner of Note 4/s6/Note 5. It used to bother me a lot.

Guys, I've make the mistake of buying the Moto Z.
It's a wonderful device, really, so thin and stylish, I've loved it!
But...thin comes with a price:

The big crack on the left is a fall from about 30cm, the one on the top right is a fall from 40/50cm, but the display was still working.
The last one, the one that killed it, was a fall from about 30cm. Now the display is completely gone, black.
All of this in less then 10 days and only those 3 falls, no more.
I've had different smartphones (from the old BB Bold 9000 and 9650, the iPhone 4S, the Samsung Galaxy S4 to the Samsung Galaxy S5), I can't say that I've been gentle with them, they've all fallen a lot of times, but I haven't had a single cracked display, scratched off course, but they're all still alive. This...this lasted less than 10 days......
You've been warned!
In fact you drop your phones so often i suggest to buy the Z Force

I've never ever had a case on any smartphones I've ever had and I have brake none and trust me, they've fallen a lot!
Odd. I've dropped a lot of phones. And they all crack more often than not.
I hope I don't drop this, my previous phones was samsung s2, xperia z1 compact, zte axon mini, I dropped then accidentally but doesn't break the screen. I hope this one too..?

I've dropped a few in my time, and never cracked one. I normally use the thinnest case I can, because I hate cases.
I always use a case. My note 3 which just got replaced by the Moto Z is 3 years old and it looks like BRAND NEW. Never been out of a case.
I've dropped mine a few times, I'm just keeping the stock bumper for now and I also bought the tempered glass to protect the screen and SO FAR it's been doing the trick for me. I'm probably going to buy a leather flap case and DIY a style holder onto it.

What's TGSP? by a dictionary either:
- Thames Gateway Strategic Partnership
- Traditional Gas Sampling Pipe
- Thematic Guide for Suicide Prediction
I don't think you mean any of those
Acronym for Tempered Glass Screen Protector... I guess we use that acronym on the S7 Edge boards

Really? Works fine for me...
Long story short, there has never been a 'perfect' screen protector for this phone that leaves no halo, because of the curved glass. The good ones are harder or impossible to get now as the phone gets older. If you can access the last few pages of that thread you'll find some currently available suggestions, but expect to have a gap around the edge to allow for the curve. If you'd like a full face one, I've used these and found them quite good:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018E3MGD8/
but expect to see a slight halo along the edges. Another option is this one - I have one as a spare but have not used it yet:

Hope this helps.

Try it on a browser instead of the app, works on all browsers on my device.
Just be aware that any TGSPs that allegedly don't have a halo, generally stop just short of the edge of the screen. Personally I prefer a full face protector with a hint of halo, rather than one that is just slightly too small and catches the spen or your finger on the edge when swiping. Keep in mind that a case may not fit well with a full face protector (although I have managed to get my UAG on with the ones linked above, I have cracked one once when fitting the case).
I stopped using screen protectors with my s4 then with my note 4. Never really had any problems. No scratches that are significant. Phone is in my pocket, only once or twice the same pocket as my keys... I've dropped it many times, and have the official Samsung bumper/back cover... Again, no real problems. Replacing the glass is quite inexpensive these days, I figure if I get a bad scratch I'll just replace it. This corning glass was made so you don't have to use protectors anymore. I might have one tiny mark on the glass but I have to turn it just right into the light, with the screen off to be able to see it. To me, added weight, bulk, and decreased responsiveness, and impact visually are not worth a screen protector.
My 2c
I dropped it for the first time after a week of using it. As much as I like the XZ. The build quality is not worth the 700 bucks. One drop. Not even that high. I was sitting on a chair and it was knocked off the table. And the side all cracked. The lining in the corner came off. The side didn't even bend like Iphone or Samsung. It actually cracked. Like plastic cracking. I was under the impression that the frame was metal. Guess not.

You can see the top panel doesn't line up anymore in this one
And the crack at the corner of the frame here
What concerns me is the way the crack and scrape like plastic instead of bend and scratch like glass/metal. I'm not so sure about this new material Sony is boasting about anymore.
That sucks. From what I recall, the front is glass, the back is the fancy aluminum alloy, but the sides are plastic. Not sure about the top and bottom.
Damn !! I hope this never happens with me, I think I'll get a bumper case or something.

Thanks . I have too many questions want to ask like warm issue, phone speaker, battery, and when phone under sunlight you can see there are lines on the screen (don't know how to describe it)
Also what version do you have?
Which one better? Single sim one or dual sim?

Sadly not even concrete. It was just asphalt surface which is softer. And I can concur. I dropped the S7edge countless time until the screen gave in and cracked.
It is plastic indeed.
Just the back is made of metal...
Hey Guys,
If you consider to buy a S8, please read.
I bought this phone a week ago and the oleophobic coating has already gone from the screen.
I didn't use any alcohol or other liquid for clean the screen, only dry clothes.
Now the phone looks like a cheap chinese rubbish, full of smudges and fingerprints.
I have to wipe every 2 minutes with a special cloth.
I am very disappointed about its quality. It is hard to believe that a cheap Nuglas tempered glass screen protector {£3 on eBay} has an oleophobic coating lasting for more than a year and the Samsung can't invest a few pence to give this phone a premium feel and they make sure that you can't buy any usable screen protector for this fckn' curved screen.
After the Note 7 scandal I though that the Samsung tries to get its reputation back, but they just try to get back the money what they lost because of the Note 7.
I think this is my last Samsung phone ever.
Now I am selling it and buy an LG or a Huawei.
Had mine since launch, no issues with the coating here
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Pics or it didn't happen, and why not exchange the phone? Seems like some kind of defect.
Had mine since launch, no issues here either.
I have the same issue with my S8 near the earpiece.
My Galaxy s7 had this as well.. seems like a factory defect as it never got worse on the previous phone.

My educated guess is no, not on standard film screen covers, however it may work on tempered glass screen covers. Oleophobic coating needs a glass surface to bond to.
Mine disappeared after a few weeks as well. Something I found that helped is my Oakley hydrophobic kit for the sunglasses. I tried it and it's only good for a week but it does help with fingerprints.

Just to add, I had this problem with my s8 where there were rub marks going down both sides of the screen right where the screen begins to curve. I contacted an authorized Samsung repair center that was about 3 hours away, sent pictures and they confirmed that Samsung will cover the repair under warranty. So if anyone has this problem, try going direct to a repair center and they can confirm if it is covered. I just got my phone back and they put a new screen and battery, seals and full testing to ensure ip68 was still good. If you're lucky and they get approval in advance, they can do repair in a few hours, otherwise you will need to pay return shipping or drive back and pick it up.
Sent from my new again Samsung S8.
They will fix this in warranty if they can see it.
Even in Kenya!
P.S. when using oleophilic liquid kits you MUST seal all your ports, cover your camera lens and buttons. The liquid will plug everything - ear phone speaker - and clog the buttons so their difficult to push.
I've read a few posts on various forums about some folks having issues with the frame of the phone developing scuffs and marks even though they have been cased. I'd like to think that perhaps sand or particles got inside case and caused it via abrasion.
For those that have theirs , hows the frame area holding up?

Yeah, I read some threads on the oneplus community forums about the nebula blue in particular having defects on the aluminum frame out of the box. Also using a case causes abrasion wears on the paint of the frame.
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Yea i have the gray or whatever color that is....and i can see how my case would do that. I have that oneplus carbon fiber looking case tmobile sells. Its tight... Which is good i like tight ? anyway the metal frame around phone does scratch more then any other phone i had. And i have had a lot of phones. Actually it reminds me of my s2 when i had that. (Same finish on frame) ......Just cheap looking and its ashame because the rest of the device is beautiful.
Only one little slight scrape on the bottom right of the frame. Seems to have held up fine for me so far though I still miss the titanium frame of my Essential.
Yeah I have a quite badly scratched and scuffed frame also. I've had it in a case since day one so don't know how it's happened, must be bits of dust or dirt scratching it. It seems a very soft material. Annoying as it ryins the resale value.
Sent from my GM1913 using Tapatalk
I just pulled off my case to check mine. I have the 12/256 Nebula blue and I have no scuffs or swirl marks as of yet and I got mine on launch day. Hope it stays that way (more so for resale value)
Just took off my case (which I have done a lot and this is my tightest case) and I don't have any scuffs. Even my camera at the top that's always exposed looks fine. I've got a t-mobile nebula blue I've had from launch. We'll see if it stays that way I guess.
Edit: there is some scuffs around the charging port but I guess that'd make sense since I have bad aim.
