Help ! My Verizon One M8 won't connect to GSM Networks. - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I bought an M8 last month and with a luck like mine I got a Verizon variant.
The problem is it won't connect to 2g networks ( connects to 3g and 4g networks fine. )
First I thought Verizon variant won't be supporting GSM or 2g networks but I did my research and found that it supports GSM networks. My network gives excellent coverage for 2g in my area . My network's 3g and 4g coverage is really poor in my area so I am left with 2g only. If I set it to global mode, it will connect as long as 3g or 4g signals are available but will go on limited service once there are no 3g or 4g signals.
In network settings if I select GSM only it does not work. The network mode remains unchanged . All other network modes can be selected but not GSM only.
Even by dialling *#*#4636#*#* I can't select GSM only.
If I set it to GSM/UMTS/LTE it will connect to only 3g or 4g but will show limited service once there are no 3g or 4g signals .
I have tried a patch for Verizon phones with no 2g options but still no use.
It would be nice if I could any help what could be the problem.
It can't be hardware related because if the modem is damaged then 3g and 4g should also not work.

Tell me if this saves you battery -

It's been good to me but does it work for you?
I remember doing this for a few other phones with good results.
Now I'm doing it with my Sensation and it looks like its working... but I want more people to test it. Test battery drain and data speeds.
Anyways,
Type *#*#4636#*#* in dialer > Phone info > Change WCDMA to GSM auto (PRL) and that is it. You should see the battery drain less on stand by.
post results here... and a thanks would also be good.
if you only use 2g,you can set like that

Yes, it does save battery. Same as going into Mobile Network settings.

GSM Auto (PRL): gives me 4G speeds
GSM only:gives me edge speeds
GSM Auto (PRL) isn't in the mobile network settings.
gsm auto prl will save the user a bit more power because it wont force the phone to continuasly hunt for a stronger signal
And just in case you guys want to play with some settings:
WCDMA preferred - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 3G is favored more.
GSM only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
WCDMA only - The GSM phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM auto (PRL) - The GSM phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more. This one is a bit confusing to me since PRL is associated mostly with CDMA technology and not GSM technology.
CDMA auto (PRL) - The CDMA phone is capable of using both 2G and 3G data communication and when signal strength is low 2G is favored more.
CDMA only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 2G data communication. When the 2G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
EvDo only - The CDMA phone is capable of using only 3G data communication. When the 3G signal is too low you get nothing at all.
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) - Some phones are equipped with both GSM and CDMA capabilities. This setting appears to just have the phone attempt to stay connected to the data communication type that works the best. (Maybe the Samsung Galaxy S will take advantage of this???)
Unknown - If none of the above fit or the phone is acting weird as far as connecting to the carrier, you will see your preferred network type is set to this

So what's the downside? Edge speed more often? If there was no downside why wouldn't it be the default?
I find gsm auto gives slightly slower speeds in a speedtest than wcdma only... (only two settings I use) and that's it.

Is there any possible way to force a particular network band with the one xl?

i know you could do it with the galaxy s3, but it seems like it cant be done with this phone.
the secret menu has practically nothing in it, and only WCDMA preffered, LTE only, etc
i want to be able to force a particular band, could this be done by editing the build prop? i want to try and force 900mhz
can it be done, or am i searching for hours on the internet for nothing?
Sounds like you have a CDMA phone. "No SIM Card". Sprint or Verizon ????
If this is the case, then you are looking in vain.
AT&T HTC OneX
Android 4.1.1
ViperXL 3.2.3
NAH i have an australian htc one xl. i am on a carrier (not particularly the fastest) but i have unlimited data and wanted to see if i could increase my download speeds by locking onto a particular band lol
Are you talking about selecting something like this in the phone info "secret" menu?

You're confusing WCDMA with CDMA.
WCDMA refers to the HSPA (3G) radio on this device, and not to be confused with the CDMA network used by Verizon and Sprint.

Is this what you are talking about?

[2G/3G/3.5G] Preferred Network Types Explained & How To Change It Easily
I'm noticing most of us are on the AT&T Network, yet there are those that do not want or need 3G/3.5G and want to use 2G or have another carrier so they cant take advantage of the speeds because they are on a Network such as T-Mobile.
Obviously someone using primarily or mainly 2G will see significantly more battery life.
This is good for someone that rarely uses data service or goes online using WIFI for the most part.
To change or edit your Preferred Network type go to your Phone app
then enter the following: *#*#4636#*#*
>Phone Information
>Set Preferred Network Type
Now you are able to change and edit the way your phone looks for and uses the Network you are currently on.
The Terms are explained below:
Preferred Network Types change the type of frequency the phone searches for.
Android is used on several devices that can gain access to different cell carriers.
For simplicity, there are two main types of cell carriers, GSM and CDMA.
The following popular data communication technology is associated with each cell carrier type:
GSM = GPRS (2g), EDGE(2g), UMTS(3g), WCDMA(3g), HSDPA(3g) {Cell Carrier examples: AT&T and T-Mobile}
CDMA = CDMA*(2/3g) EV-DO(3g) WiMax(3/4g) {Cell Carrier examples: Verizon and Sprint}
Now that the general stuff is out of the way, here's my take on the Preferred Network types:
Unknown - If none of the above fit or the phone is acting weird as far as connecting to the carrier, you will see your preferred network type is set to this
When using the 'only' options you should still be able to make calls.
To put things into perspective, The Nexus One is set to WCDMA preferred as default and the Droid Incredible is set to CDMA auto (PRL).

[Q] How can I activate GSM and Evdo at the same time???

Ok guys Here is my problem
I live abroad and I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 with unlocked SIM capability so I'm using it as a GSM phone. The problem is that my GSM network provider does not have a 3G network, however, there is this other mobile network company that does offer a 3G network but it operates on CDMA. So I flashed my phone using DFS to the CDMA network and I managed to get the phone work for both calls and Data. But now since I usually use my GSM number I have to switch back and forth between GSM and CDMA whenever I want to use data and that is pretty inconvenient, in addition, whenever I use 3G I loose my GSM connection.
So what I was thinking is whether I can activate both my GSM network and the 3G connection from the CDMA network at the same time so that I can surf the web with 3G speed and make calls using my GSM number at the same time.
To be honest with you I've been trying to get that done with no hope, I've tried all the modes the "Phone info" app with no luck, so I'm here now asking for your help.
come on guys
I can't believe no one here does not have an answer

GSM problem!

Hey Guys! please help me out!
My oneplus one has a issue for a long time. I live in Turkey and using a network provider named "Avea". With di.3.0 alpha baseband I get no reception no matter what I do, however its like a bug. my sim service trying to reconnect every 5 seconds like in loop.
The issue is: In my country we still have 3G not LTE. and still in many areas beacuse of our networks are so not strong our phones got Edge signal. The problem on my opo is I only have 3G, my 2G band is lost. My GSM band is lost too. If choose another prefered network type instead of 3G my network is lost.
I guess this loss of bands on my phone, DI3.0 baseband modem is not working too. How can I bring back my 2G and GSM bands ?

Enable 3G UMTS HSDPA

Is there anyway to enable UMTS 3G on this version of phone. I have used the hidden LG app and selected auto select GSM/WCMDA/LTE but I cannot get any 3G service. All I get is 4G/4GLTE or EDGE and nothing else.
2G service will be stopping soon here and I won't be able to use the phone when in EDGE mode when that happens.
I am on Vodafone in AU and live in poor service 4G area but good service 3G when I used my old Note3. I have also tried a Telstra 4G SIM and the same happens.
Looking at spec for this phone it is radio supported for 2G/3G and 4G but I suspect AT&T may have locked out 3G service.
I cannot find a non AT&T ROM anywhere so I suspect I am stuck with AT&T for the moment which I suspect this may fix the issue. But any help would be appreciated.

Strange, because using the same app I'm able to change the network mode from 2G to 3G with ease. And it works well.
Phone is OK
OK the AT&T V10 has no 900Mhz support but has 850Mhz support and 2100Mhz support
After many contacts with Vodafone AU, I found someone that knows their stuff. They tell me coastal areas have 2100Mhz and inland where I am is 900Mhz, so problem not solved but understood. But if I have a Telstra AU SIM they support 850Mhz which this model has.
