Files getting deleted on their own in Downloads folder - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought a Huawei Mate 8 from ebay couple of months back. The phone is awesome. Great battery life and fast charging.
However, the problem I am having is that the files get deleted on their own from the Downloads folder.
There is no set pattern. I file which I downloaded few weeks might still be there while another downloaded a week back might already be deleted.
It could be any file like .mp3, .pdf, .cbr, .docx, etc.
I do not have sd card installed. Nor do I have any antivirus software.
Whatsapp and Chrome are pretty much the only app I have.
Please let me know what should I do.
Thank you.

Go to the Phone Manager, and then System optimization, and press the settings icon at the top right and disable the automatic cleanup.
This took me "a while" to figure out myself as well :good:

Storage Card Virus?

Today I woke up to find duplicate folders on my storage card, as shown in image 1. Checking properties for the duplicate folder shows its an .exe and the third image confirms it.
I tried resetting the device and taking the card out, nothing helped.
Whats going on? I can delete them but what happened??
Thats weird.
Thanks guys

You have a lot of files with a folder icon that are infact executables.
Some kind of virus infection..
Check the services for any abnormal executable startups and delete them.
Otherwise: hardreset and card reformat.
Yes it seems like the folders were duplicated into .exe's.
How do I get a virus on a windows mobile?? If that is what it really is.
Any way, how do I check the services?

Virus can enter SD card when you put it in infected computer. Remove your card and insert in clean computer having good antivirus. Scan it and remove the virus. You can use some mobile antivirus as well. These are available in different fora. Google.
I took it out of the phone and put it in my card reader and currently scanning it with Kaspersky Internet Security.
Lets see what happens.
Thanks for the ideas guys, please keep it coming.

what happened ultimately? you did'nt inform.
Ok Kaspesrky took about an hour and 40 mins to scan it and found several viruses.
See attached image.
It seems that the source is either the RSS updates or the target seemed to hit RSS updates. I am using SPB Insight.
It did not detect the other stuff because I manually deleted all the duplicate folders which morphed into .exe files. I guess had I not deleted them, Kaspersky would have detected and deleted them.

Awesome Drop Issue

I started using Awesome Drop around 2 months or so ago and it's been quite amazing. However, about 3 or so weeks ago the app just started force closing.
Each time I opened the app I'd get the following message:
"The application Awesome Drop (process com.dashwire.drop) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Has anyone else had this issue, or figured out a way to get it working again? I emailed the developers with this issue, but haven't heard a word from them and it's been over two weeks.
Same thing here....
try re-installing it.

I've reinstalled 3 times. That's not the issue. If you un-install an app, does it leave files on the phone, similar to a computer? If so, perhaps I need to do a bit a snooping and physically remove anything that was left over after uninstalling.

Installing SHOULD erase everything but go on root explorer or another folder thing and search apps name and delete anything you can find, then reinstall
I went through my SD card and couldn't find anything to delete, with the exception of the "drop" folder that contains all the files I've transferred on to my phone. So, on a hunch I decided to transfer said files to the "downloads" folder on the SD card and deleted the "drop" folder. After un-mounting my phone, I fired up awesome drop and it now works like new again.
Problem solved!

[Q] How to (re)move demo epub.apk?

EDIT: oops - got the title slightly wrong - it should be "demo epub.epub" not .apk
The MyLibrary app comes with a copy of "Alice in Wonderland".
I like to keep my filesystem organized, so I moved that into a folder with my other ebooks.
However, MyLibrary seems intent upon re-creating the "demo epub.epub" and "demo epub.png" files in /mnt/sdcard/
Does anyone know how I can stop it doing this? It's rather annoying.

i copied it to my desktop, the deleted it from my library and added the file back to where i wanted it...that seemed to work for me...
Yeah, its not only annoying its spooky - where the hell does the file come from?
Do they download it from their cloud? Does that mean they are backing up some of my files to a cloud? (Which I never asked them to do)
I deleted the damn thing over and over, I don't wish to move it - I wish to GET RID OF IT. And nothing works *grrrr*
+1 I found the @#[email protected]# book once, but I was not rooted then so I could not delete it.
Today I was annoyed by our Alice in Wondeland epub reappearing every time again. I cant find the origanal from where it is copied.
So if anyone knows....

What, it doesn't happen on yours?
Yup Dido Does this with mine... Kinda annoying actually.
Everytime we get a new OTA, I hope for the best and try and delete. And like a bad penny it comes back again.
i have found mine under mnt/sdcard In the file manager app i'm using it says it has -rw permissions only so I'm guessing that's why it keeps coming back?
I've tried moving as well, but it also comes back, which is so annoying because this book starts with A! So alwys at the beginning. Also called ASUS about it once. And I had to walk tech support through it as they didn't believe me that it kept coming back.

Glad you tried to get through to ASUS on this one.
The "Alice in Wonderland" epub is build into asusreader.apk.
If rooted open the apk in 7zip or similar go to "assets" folder and delete the "default_book" folder. No longer comes back. Worked on my wife's.

Yeah, not rooted, but if its in the apk then it really is something we should badger asus about - what were they thinking.

Would you mind to direct us to the location of this asusreader.apk? I did a search and could not find it.
I uploaded it here.

android indexservice obliterating battery

anyone dealing with indexing service draining battery?
I had it on the first day I got the phone.
From what I understand it got to do with being able to search your phone quicker.
What i did to get rid of it was delete all pdfs i had on me sd card and also disable search category in s finder.
To disable s finder search slide down on the notification panel, select s finder, now touch the 3 dots and select search category and untick all apps. Now reboot your phone and it should go away.
Hope that helps

i rooted and removed/froze s finder, s voice, facebook, anything that said knox,s health, quick connect, all carrier bloat. no more issues
Can I remove s search and quick connect from notification menu without root? I do not use them and they occupy lots of space.
I had it on mine too.
My problem was with a pdf file that was on my SD card. Once i deleted the pdf the indexing stopped.

Yeah that really sucks.
What I do is put all of my pdf files in my dropbox, this way I get them from the cloud not on the SD card and samsung wont index them.

Is there a way we can feed this back to Samsung? I really feel like I am using a beta machine at the moment with all the bugs and defects around. only managed to score 12 hours end-to-end yesterday and thats with very light usage.. Sigh...
Found the issue - It was a PDF file but a Sensitive Password enabled PDF file that the Index Service got held up on.
Arggh.. Not sure why the Index Service will enumerate all the PDF files even though the search is turned off. I've rar'ed these up and issue has stopped for over a day now (use to come on every few hours or at random).

APK s keep getting removed

Hi. Just got the P30 and all is good and fine until I noticed it is constantly deleting the APK files I move to its internal storage. Every time I copy at a certain time they get deleted. I can see several folders getting updated at the same time but I cannot figure out why it does that. I thought there is something wrong with the files, but they seem ok. I can install any app and it remains on my phone. Does anyone know why it is doing this?

You should probably check in the app Optimiser > Settings > Auto-clean junk files
Thanks @ykkhern. It looks like it was the online virus scan in optimizer that deleted. Good to know
