Help! I may failed to root my Mate9 - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hi, thank you for watch my thread. I am not native English speaker, so there may have some mistakes.
I installed TWRP and SuperSU but when I boot , my Mate9 is auto-restarting.
Finally the screen shows Huawei ERecovery.
What I should do?

SuperSU flashed from the "how to root without decrypted boot image"?
And did you Format Data in TWRP?
If not that's why. The phone won't boot if your data partition is encrypted, and your kernel is not told to decrypt it.
Please note that Format Data will wipe your internal storage.

Thank you for your reply!
First, I will write how I try to root my Mate9.
1.I opened boot loader with using adb and fastboot.
2. I installed TWRP 3.0.2-2
3. And then I had selected "Advanced wipe", and erased "Data".
4. I installed SuperSU from "Install" button.
5.Finally I rebooted.
>>The phone won't boot if your data partition is encrypted, and your kernel is not told to decrypt it.
Really!? Then how can I fix my phone?

You must flash data via twrp recovery.

dear experts, i am newbie. i have a mate9. can anyone be kind to walk thru with me the rooting process?

Oh. So you didn't Format Data, you wiped data?
You could try and restore your stock boot image. But I don't think that will help. If you don't have a backup of boot, download your firmware from hwmt.ru/hwmtsite/firmware-database/ and extract update.app from the zip. Download Huawei Update Extractor and run it.
Open up update.app in Huawei Update Extractor. Right click on BOOT and click on Extract Selected.
Flash the extracted boot image in download mode:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
If boot image doesn't help:
In TWRP, go to advanced and then tap on Terminal and
cd /data
ls /data
Post what it says.
If it can't mount data at all or if boot image restore doesn't help you might need to flash back stock firmware,
use this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108

Honor6 plus stuck at logo while rooting

While trying to root and after twrp is installed completely, I wanted to install beta-supersu v2.48 zip, its successfully installed.
But couldn't boot my device again, it's stuck at second honor logo.
After that, I tried to do the all process again, but same.
I've tried to wipe cash, data,l and dalvik many times but not succeeded.
Finally, I wiped again same before and wiped system (not internal memory), but nothing.
Now, stuck at first logo but I can access recovery which is twrp and can access also fast mode.
Am I still could access all data in my system or it should be deleted?
Help me please
I'm on 6.0 android emui 4.0.1
My device model is PE-TL10
Use the multitool and unbrick option
Thanks for quick response, I've it but how to do exactly?
What do? Which files should I use?
Will it delete my data??

Download stock rom, and doesn't wipe data. There are in depth instructions in the multitool telling you what to do step by step
But till now by my way did I do anything that delete my data?
And where to get rom or update file?

Search huawei update finder team mt to find rom
You wiped the data partition so yes you most likely wiped the phone clean.

So you think already deleted but I didn't wipe internal memory as I said.
And it's till me in wiping process it's usually to wipe that 3 partitions but I added to them system partition later.
And about update files I've read ota files and another is oem stock recovery, which one should I use and will be better to to found ball data?
And if I can't recover my system how to recover all data later after Installing new system ?

Just use Huawei hisuite to backup all your contacts, apps. Notes, pics etc to your PC.
Flash boot and image files from the firmware you were using and restore your backup using hisuite.
Another way is to flash stock recovery from the latest firmware and then use dload method to force upgrade your phone and restore the backup.

Oh. I apologise. You can use adb to make a backup of apps and system but in your case you don't need system partition so still at a loss.
So u mean I lost my data already and no way to find them?
What about after installing new stock recovery? Can I use any program to recover lost data and apps?

Flashing stock ROM via fastboot doesn't wipe your data. Is your bootloader unlocked? Next time please make a TWRP back up (even if it's just system partition) before you flash anything.
Yes sure it's unlocked, but that way am I still can access my files?

Actually bootimage support is required for it .
So first root with system less and later with system based root.

Boot into TWRP recovery.
Enable access to System
Enter ADB mode (I'm on stock recovery so can't check; maybe it's auto) install minimal ADB and fastboot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Install. Connect phone to PC.
Run ADB command prompt
Type ADB devices
Your device should show
Then type
ADB pull /sdcard/
It's should begin copying all files in your SD card to your C:/ drive

You got a option in recovery to enable mtp
If you select keep read only partition them you can only read you can't format or write anything.
When TWRP starts it shows this option Keep read only partition. Many of guys check this and swipe.so they have problems to flash and wipe anything.
Connect a mmc using card reader with PC.
Copy custom ROM
Select install
Select mmc
Select file
Wait for process done
Wipe dalvik,cache
Reboot phone.
Done
?

In need of help! TWRP!

first some back story:
it's been a long time since i did a lot of rooting so i lost a lot of knowledge.
I got the phone close to release in the EU.
There was only BETA stage twrp at the time.
So i flashed this unstable twrp and rooted with magisk.
And i run stock Oxy Rom.
But the main problem is, whenever i boot into recovery, twrp ask me for a password. (i have none) so i press continue.
And it then ask for unmodified system partition. (not sure what to select here)
But when i swipe to allow modification, i can't find the root of the phone? i cannot find the download folder where i flash updates or other modified apk's.
It's all just numbers and random letter. i have no idea on how to proceed or how to update twrp safely without falling into boot loop and other problems.
Some help would be appriciated. Thank you.

and which of my problems does this solve?
First of all flash official TWRP now. Makes no sense to use the unofficial version because its not stable.
Enter PW -> decrypt data for TWRP
No PW -> hieroglyphs
I successfully used official twrp, version 3.2.2 and then did a "format data" and then used fastboot again to install the full rom.

U have corrupted u r data partation u have to factory reset along with wiping internal storage and then transfer u r rom File through MTP in sd card of phone and then flash rom.
Or u can flash fastboot flashable rom via fastboot mode.
Then install your official twrp via fastboot mide after installing rom.
Now twrp will detect all data from sd card

Can Anyone help me, please? I have somehow the same problem. The phone literally itself without doing anything started doing a download(odin) mode loop. So I deleted data, dalvik, cache, system partitions without internal storage since it has very very important files for me and a lot of projects for the university!!! and before and after the folders in internal storage in twrp shows as random numbers and letters. I don't know why since when the phone was working normally I was protecting it by fingerprint and a password. And when I installed a stock ROM after it without wiping the internal storage. The storage is showing in negative. If anyone can help me this would be super appreciated and helpful. Thank you!

If it is already showing folders with random file names in the internal storage it means it needs to format data (to remove file encryption) which deletes all files in the internal storage.
Don't wipe system because it removes your OS.
Always secure backup before messing your device.

Sorry I thought you are also literally same issues with OP but then it's not. Are you able to reboot to twrp? And what is the whole story of you device? I mean if you are rooted, what ROM you came from and all that you did before the issues occur. And did you tried to switch slot? Since you wiped everything with system included then you have no OS installed. Did you tried to flash OS via OTG? Or flash via fastboot.
I flashed another os without deleting the internal storage but the storage is now showing in negative values. Hey skullkid383, thankyou for your work on this!! Twrp flashed and works NP. But I cannot decrypt. Following steps, the step you mount before pushing in twrp adb does not work, no such folder. The push goes thru fine although the mount did not. Format data worked, I can see internal storage and move things to and from PC through tether. But when I reboot its sticks on moto screen. When I flash back to patched boot for magisk the is boots to an "decryption unsuccessful" msg and asks me to reset the phone endlessly. Any help pls?

in guide to make easier to find wipe then u should be good of course flash magisk beta after u wipe as well
Hmm still decryption unsuccessful. About to reflash to stock. Sorry for the slow response. I have the next several hours free to test. I don't have an SD card, so i rooted the old way, using your patched boot, then used es file explorer to replace fstab, rebooted to confirm, and fstabs permissions had changed from rw r r to rw rw so it stuck. once I format data and internal becomes visible I move magisk over, flash then reboot and get dencryption unsuccessful. Also even flashing the recovery before formatting resulted in it being lost every reboot, only after format data it stuck.

Ok I am going to build new one in awhile my PC screen broke idk when but until then the link to Hannah twrp is down till I fix it
Ah man, so instead of fastboot flashing everything back to stock, I figured I'd just flash stock recovery back, after the decryption unsuccessful route. Flashed stock recovery, when it booted and asked me to reset the phone instead of going to twrp this time it went to the stock recovery image of a reset...phone booted, got to looking around and holy crap I'm decrypted! flashed your twrp and now I'm rooted with twrp and decrypted!! So maybe boot twrp the first time when formatting data and decrypting so when you boot and the device asks you to reset because of decryption failure it can use stock recovery to complete the process, then flash twrp for the finish? Your incredibly helpful man, again thankyou for all of your efforts and work on this!!
Still wanna fix twrp found a issue in formatting data I wanna fix but it shall take some time to get it done link is down til then cause it's something that needs fixed first before I put it back up

Did you do a factory wipe after installing TWRP?

No, I didn't. Is that a necessity?
Because of encryption TWRP can't read the data partition until you've wiped in TWRP using the wipe method that makes you type in 'yes' to wipe.
After wipe TWRP can then read it. Afaik this is the only work around, you can flash things to turn off encryption, but iirc it doesn't undo encryption already there.
Are you using latest twrp version 3.2.3.0
Did you flash version 6 of the no verity opt zip
And I am going to assume that you formated data and not wipe data partition.
Are you running Oreo?
Because Samsung added quota support in their Oreo update for the /data partition. The official TWRP version isn't able to deal with the quota support yet, so you can't mount /data.
You should check out this post of Tkkg1994:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...rp-herolte-t3333770/post77296102#post77296102
Tkkg1994 added quota support in that TWRP version he links in his post.
Don't use the official or twrp version in the 1st post, because those don't have the quota support yet.
@haro_h yes he is running on Oreo. Didn't know twrp for the s7 hasn't been updated for Oreo and the quota support many thanks.
@kiwigi follow the link provided by @haro_h it should take you straight to the post and at the bottom the download links. You can use either method (Odin or twrp ) it will overwrite current twrp.
Once done you will have to repeat the steps you have done already ie::
Format data
Flash no verity opt zip
Flash rmm state bypass zip

Thanks @spawnlives
also
thanks to @haro_h
and thanks @Beanvee7
That is exactly how I did it.
So a little change to what you mentioned here
1. Back apps and data
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Flash twrp with Odin - use latest version of twrp
4. Boot straight into twrp and FORMAT data.
5. When finished the format using twrp menu reboot back into twrp
At this stage if you reboot back into system it will re-encrypt your phone.
6. Flash no verity opt encrypt zip - this will prevent phone from re encrypting when booting into system.

Flash RMM-State_Bypass_v2.zip(The only such file I found here)
7. Flash magisk
8. Reboot into system

Glad it is all working.
It should be noted the rmm state bypass zip is the same version ( 1 or 2 ) doesn't matter where you download it from same as no verity zip.
Also you should.keep the no verity zip and rmm state bypass zip on your SD card or PC as I think you mentioned that you are moving and planning on re-,flashing your rom so you will have to redo all the steps again.
FYI all the rmm state zip does is modify a value in the build prop file and delete a system folder/file which prevents relocking of your bootloader when restarting your phone.
