[Guide] how to covert qmg to png (easy way) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

On s7edge i used Qmg2Png app to convert qmg files inside an APK but this not working on my S8.
Now i have found a easier way without decompile the apk.
Just extract your desired qmg file from the apk to your sdcard and follow this steps...
As first go to Playstore and download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&hl=de
Then rename the qmg file to jpg, so you can see how the image looks.
I use root exlporer but also goes with any other fileimanager.
Then find your renamed file or open it in your file manager by clicking QickPic and click the 3dot menu> click Edit> and save your image.
Voila, that's it! Now you have your Qmg file in a simple way rebuilt: silly: cool:
Now the theming can start ...)

Keyboard color change

Hey folks,
Okay so I have the HTC_IME_JONASI file installed and I see it in the setting but I am having trouble changing the keyboard colors, Can anyone walk me through this or direct me to a link where I can do this?
Thanks In Advance Folks!
afaik you would need to modify it before pushing it over to the phone
unless its something different than just a themed ime
(this should be in Q&A btw)
You have to do this
1. change the file extension from .apk to .zip
2. extract the contents of the .zip file to a directory, if you use winrar or 7zip or similar, you usually can just right click on the file, then it will extract to "xxxxxx\" where xxxxx would just be the name of the file and a directory where that file is located will be created.
3. Go to the directory that was just created and then go to the RES folder
4. Scan through the different folders within RES and find the files you will need to change
5. Download GIMP (free) or acquire Photoshop (ripoff price)
6. Use GIMP or photoshop to edit your .png files, then save to same directory
7. Do this for all files needed, also read up on .9.png files, if you don't edit them properly before sending them back to your phone, your keys might be coming out looking stretched.
8. Once you edit all files, and also note that some files might exist in other directories that are the same as in another. Same filename, check the dimensions (pixels example 54 x 47) and if they are the same just copy then paste it over from the other directory and overwrite that file that wasn't edited, that way you don't have to do it twice
9. Use your program 7zip or winrar or similar and compress the files again. Easy way is to go back to the root of the folder where it shows all the files you extracted within the folder you created, select all files in that folder, right click, then choose add to archive, and make sure you create a zip. Change the file extension from .zip to .apk
10. Push to phone and pray it looks right.

Circular battery mod for all firmwares(easiest way)

Instructions:
copy "framework-res.apk"to your PC
Rename .apk to .rar(zip) then right click"framework-res.rar"then extract it with WinRAR(WinZip)
Enter framework-res\res\drawable-hdpi and select"stat_sys_battery_0.png" to "stat_sys_battery_100.png",total 101 pictures which from your sources folder and copy all of them to the destination, replace older files like these
When you finish doing that back to find folder"framework-res",then use WinRAR OR 7zip(i used 7zip) to compress it to a .APK file the"archive name" is end with .apk And "Compression method" is "Store"
Modify the attribution of this apk!(from root explorer).
Its attribution is "rw-r--r--"
Modify with Root Explorer or other programs and now copy "framework-res .apk in system/app

First copying framevork apk to app folder does nothing, second just adding new graphics to apk without modding xml files does nothing.
I suppose that you have already modded framework (first Chinese rooted ROM had this modd in framework-res.apk) and replaced those .pngs and there is no need to rename and compress just drag and drop using winrar. Of course you could not have any effect if you did not copied this apk to your root/system/framework folder.
There is also charging graphics, after all without modding xml files you can only see few graphics (battery level 0, 10, 20, 40...). And dangerous thing is replacing framework apk with another from other ROM version will end up with "bootloop"...

Thanks for the info, but I think most here know how to unzip apk files, and this isn't the correct forum.
It should also be mentioned that this method is quick and easy, but is really only useful for replacing images. To make modifications to any xml or smali, you have to decompile the apk.

Yes, this method its only working, when you change the pictures.

Bootanimation mod?

Hello There.
Found a Bootanimation thread on the S6 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/themes-apps/mod-enable-zip-bootanimation-aroma-boot-t3205320
I was wondering if its possible to use that same zip to get rid of the qmg file extension and be able to just start making and using standard android zip boot animation files.
Any dev interested on looking at the "source" to see how it´s made? What to "mod" in our S7? Something to flash, or just a line to change on the config files.
According to my knowledge and experience, you need to change bootanimation file in system/bin

You are close... here is the thing:
You can have custom boot animations on your galaxy, just with root access and changing the right bootanimation files that are inside system/media.
The thing is that those files, if we are on Samsung devices, have the extension qmg (bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg).
All the other android phones have a file called bootanimation.zip
The difference lies in the type of file. In order to make a qmg file you need to do a lot of tricks with an outdated samsung application, that converts jpgs into compressed qmg files.
On the other hand, if you want to make a standard android boot animation zip, you can just use the images and zip´em (there´s a little more than that) or you can use any gif to convert it to a bootanimation.zip file with online free conversion tools.
You can even use youtube videos to convert them into hight quality gif and then use a gif to bootanimation converter to get your file.
That´s the deal.
Now, the trick is how to make samsung to "read" the original bootanimation.zip files instead of the propietary qmg file.

No, you still dont understand.
To make samsung read bootanimation zip, you need to change bootanimation in system/bin
Bootanimation file in system/bin is diffrent with the system/media

Ah... Now I see what you mean.
The system/bin/bootanimation file has some lines (some unreadable but some that you can actually read) if you open it like a text file, that have some references to the boot animation file.
There are a few interesting lines:
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg /system/media/bootvideomain.mp4
So guess what you pointed out!
You can use any mp4 video as a boot animation video... just copy the mp4 video to your system/media, and name it "bootvideomain.mp4". Then rename bootsamsung.qmg to something like bootsamsung.qmg.old.
Be sure that the permissions on the mp4 are "rw - r - r."
I have just tested it with really ugly results, but it worked (video should be made on portrait. I placed a "landcape video from whatsapp, so it was compressed to 8mb and unfortunatelly, sideways".
Gonna mess around more to see...
So at the momment, I haven´t changed any file. Just playing with the bootsamsung.qmg and placing a bootvideomain.mp4 on the system/media folder.
It seems it takes a little longer to boot, and the video only plays for about 5 seconds...
Using the same system/bin/bootanimation file.
I´m not a programmer, but it seems like there´s a list of what kind of animation should the
