New To Smartphones and Want To Root... - Samsung Galaxy J7 Questions & Answers

Hello All:
This is my first smartphone and I'm wanting to root. I am trying to use the front(earpiece) speaker to listen to video and audio. I found out about the app "earpiece" and installed it, but the damn app keeps telling me that the app has stopped working. So now I want to root and I have a few ?'s.
1- How and what do I need to make a full backup/image of the phone in the event I want or need to return to stock?
2- I saved the link with the steps to root, but how will I know or be able to see what hidden stuff is in the phone that I can use(like the ability to use the front speaker), and can anyone tell me the tools I would need to root so I can have the ready in advance? Many many thanks everyone.

You can root your device first by getting a official/unofficial custom recoveries like CWM/TWRP.
To install a root access you need the custom recoveries.
Custom Recovery
To get custom recovery first find your device suitable recovery then you need the odin(latest version preferred). Using the odin you can flash the custom recovery to your smartphone.
Note: You need to enable the developer mode and tick the OEM unlocking option so that you will not get FRP problem during flashing the custom recovery.
Rooting
After flashing the recovery now you you are ready to get root power. You need to find the flashable zip of supersu for your device and keeping it on your sd card you can flash the zip to get root. You can also flash any custom ROM from this custom recovery.
Geting back to stock
If your want to get back to the stock software , you need to download your device firmware and just flash via ODIN or you can keep full nandroid backup via the custom recovery of any ROM.

install recovery mode

Hi guys sorry for my lot questions
but I'm new and I want to descover everything in any thing that I use
okay
now I want to flash a custom rom on my phone(LG OPTIMUS ME/P350)
I learned how but the first step always be to go into the recovery mode when booting up.So I tried but it restore the default android
then I learned that I should install recovery mode(TWRP or CWM)
So I want to know
Is there a special version for every phone??
If so where can I find my on version
if no where can I find the general version for android 2.2.2
Look in the forum for your specific device. I'm pretty sure there will be a guide there.
Recovery mode is different for all phones.
Nice I will search And you ill have a very fast feedback
thnx for quick replay
Is it good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080911
thing can I do it Also these steps are using adb
Also What is the kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17499336
how can it help me
A kernel is the underlying process that drives the operating system and manages the resources. Unless you really know what you're doing, I would strongly suggest that you don't replace your current kernel.
The first link looks fine for installing a custom recovery partition. Take note that the install process requires root access to the phone.
You can get root by following the instructions here.
There should be a link somewhere on the forum for you to download ADB. If you can't find it, you can install the Android SDK from Google, it includes ADB.
Ok I will try to try (nice sentence)them today
And wait for the feedback thnx for replays
Other question I want to flash v10f firmware
then root
then install this recovery all that to get root and also availability to flash an Arabic Rom
-is this the right way?
-do you kno any custom Arabic Roms?
Answer please

[Q] I need to make "update.zip" working from stock ICS recovey..

Hello
I need to create "update.zip" file that I can apply (flash) using the stock recovery that comes with stock ICS 4.0.3 .. Changing some wallpaper files and notifications....
I found this link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732957
But I am afaraid that this will not work in ICS , or at least it needs CWM ...
I don't want to use CWM recovery , reason = I have to unlock the bootloader and loose all my data ...
Thanks
You can try to root your device with SuperOneClick and install ROM Manager in order to install CWM.

Now back to topic question :
I need to make "update.zip" working from stock ICS recovey..any tool or how to ?
To my knowledge it needs to be signed by google to do it through stock recovery. We have no current way to sign something like that, which is why we use custom recoveries.

Can't the dev gurus "imitate" the signature from a stock ROM zip ?
..

Wouldn't it be a whole lot easier to root with SuperOneClick, install Titanium Backup, unlock the bootloader, install ClockworkMod and then restore all your data?
So far Google's signatures haven't been cracked as far as I know, and doing so would probably only cause them to change them. Also, the stock recovery has far less features, such as nandroid capabilities which are very useful if you want to tweak your ROM every now and then.
I know losing the data can be annoying, but if you back it up properly it won't be too bad. Now you're just waiting for the point to bite the bullet and do an oem unlock, because you know that deep down inside you want to. =)

Can I install SuperOneClick from the phone ? Have you got a link ?
Actually I unlocked the bootloader and used CWMR before when I downgraded from ICS to GB (then went back to ICS by the way) , but locked the bootloader again after that ....
Can you please post me a "problem free" root method for stock ICS ROM 4.0.3 ? is it the superoneclick ?
Thanks

I don;t have a 6200 so i don't know how to root it, it could be the same as the 6210 but I'm not sure. Look in the development section.
I can answer a couple of these other things but you could really get the answers quickly by googling them.
CWM
Clockwork Mod Recovery, a custom recovery as opposed to the stock recovery. You have to have a custom recovery installed in order to flash custom ROMs.
ROM
The operating system (OS)
Kernel
Facilitates communication between the OS and the hardware.
Flashing
A general term for installing a custom ROM, the stock firmware, a mod or an update. There are many ways of flashing and not all devices do it the same way. Samsung uses Odin and also certain files can be flashed in the stock recovery if it is unlocked. With HTC you can flash certain files directly in hboot if the device is unlocked otherwise you need a custom recovery.
Recovery
This is a software layer that you can flash to your phone that allows you to boot the phone into a utility state where you can install roms, flash things like patches or modifications, backup your rom/kernel, etc. When people refer to a nandroid backup, they are referring to a backup made here. It's a snapshot of your phone that lets you mess with things and restore back to that point in time should you screw something up. You pretty much can't brick your phone at this level - it's all just files and filesystems. You can also mount your SD card to reader mode for connection to a computer, do a factory reset of data, and a few other fun things like root your rom here. You should only root your rom if it is a stock rom that has not been rooted yet. Rooting a rooted rom will usually unroot your root so you don't have root. (copied from tspderek in the Rezound forum)

I should also add that Rooting (root) is just adding the superuser binaries to the system/bin folder and nothing else. Its pretty much the same thing as an administrator in windows, it allows you access to system folders. Rooting and installing a custom recovery are not the same thing, two different animals, though some devs will included both in their method for rooting a device. I prefer to do mine separately as I don't always want to install a custom recovery.

[GUIDE] [FOR NEWBIES] Root your device,Install Recoveries etc..

Hello Guys..
This is an easy guide that i have created for all the Newbies aka. Noobs :silly: so that you guys can learn a bit about rooting your device, flashing recoveries on it,installing ROMs etc.. I will tell you guys How to root different devices,Flash recoveries and so on. I will also update the thread regularly...
SO FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN BY GIVING U PEOPLE A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF "WHAT IS ROOTING?" "WHAT ARE RECOVERIES ETC ETC"... :silly:
SO LET'S BEGIN..
BRIEF INFO ABOUT ROOTING AND IT'S ADVANTAGES..
Rooting basically allows users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's sub-system.. Rooting will unlock your device's potential to the fullest and you can do a lot of things on your device if you root it..Root access is the basic necessity for installing Custom ROMs,flashing recoveries and so on.. If you root your device then you can also improve your device's performance by flashing some mods/tweaks also.. But BEWARE!!! IF YOU ROOT YOUR DEVICE YOUR WARRANTY WILL GET VOID.. THERE ARE 98% CHANCES THAT AFTER ROOTING NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO YOUR PHONE.. BUT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO YOUR DEVICE AND YOU CAN'T TURN IT ON AGAIN OR YOU GET ERRORS THEN I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE..
BRIEF INFO ABOUT CUSTOM RECOVERIES..
Custom Recoveries perform the same tasks as the stock-Android recovery with a few additional features, such as the ability to make full system backups, and flash custom roms, wipe system partition, mount USB storage from recovery etc...
A Custom Recovery is necessary to flash Custom ROMs. Each time you flash a ROM there is the potential of data loss, so having a backup is crucial. It’s not the best solution but it sure beats reinstalling all of your apps, if you are not happy with your custom rom.
There are two major custom recoveries for Android, both achieve the same results, with a few differing features. Both are highly recommended.
1. CWM Recovery (ClockworkMod Recovery)
Clockworkmod Recovery developed by Koushik Dutta, comes in two flavors, a key operated variant and a touch variant. Both versions are similar To the stock recovery, but feature some pretty useful tools.
Clockworkmod features a built in file browser for ROMs, ADB and nandroid backup. There are a couple methods for installing Clockworkmod, but the easiest by far is via Clockworkmod’s ROM Manager app, which provides a one click installation and updates for the recovery.
2. TeamWin Recovery Project
The TeamWin Recovery Project is a touch based recovery manager, that provides a less intimidating experience for new users.
Besides the user interface, it provides the same features available in Clockworkmod.
TWRP unlike Clockworkmod, doesn’t provide the same kind of one click installation, however it can be installed with a few adb fastboot commands.
BRIEF INFO ABOUT CUSTOM ROMs..
Custom ROMs are basically a fully standalone version of the Android OS.. There are many advantages of installing custom ROMs.. Some of them are --You can upgrade to a version of the OS that has not yet been released for your device, or never will be.. This is possible if a ROM from another phone is ported to your phone by a developer.. Through Custom ROMs your phone's speed, performance, reliablility and many other things will get improved.. And most of all u will get a new UI(USER INTERFACE) through some Custom ROMs.. BUT BEWARE AGAIN!! :silly: When u flash a Custom ROM Something Could Go Wrong.. First of all, something may go wrong with the flashing process (that's the process of installing the ROM) and leave your phone in a bricked state( A state when your phone doesn't boot or gets stuck at boot logo and vice versa..). The chances of this are pretty low nowadays, and most of the time you can restore it back to normal.Try to go for the ROM that has been tested by time and has lots of positive feedback.

How to root your device..
ROOT YOUR DEVICE
Nowadays there are pretty many methods available on the net to root your device but as far as i know the best methods to root are mentioned below.. I have personally tried these methods with lots of phones and got a success rate of 98%!!
Method 1.
Use the Android APP called Framaroot.. Through it you can directly Root your device from the device itself without the need of a PC!! Here is the link of downloading it -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276 First download the app and install it..Once you have installed it then open it and click on any exploit from the list in framaroot app.. Once the process is completed, reboot your device... Now if you see the SuperSU app in the app drawer then your device is successfully rooted!! Now do anything that u want to do with your rooted device!! If this app doesn't work then try the 2nd method below..
Method 2.
Use the application ONE CLICK ROOT.. One Click Root is one of the most popular software for rooting android devices. With just one click, you can root any android mobile and tablet and get access to lots of new and amazing features. Guess what? You don't have to pay a single penny to grab this tool. Method 3

This software has multiple exploits to gain root access on your device. Here is the link to download it -- http://www.srsroot.com/Download the app, connect your phone to the PC and follow the on-screen instructions to root your device..
FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FLASH RECOVERIES REFER TO THE 3rd Post..
How to flash a custom recovery on your phone..
If you have decided to take a trip to the land of custom ROMs and Android hacking in general, you’d need to take one first step - flash (install) a custom recovery... If you want to flash a recovery then follow these steps.. (This is for flashing CWM Recovery..) -
First install Rom manager from Marker or Google Play store. Please bear with the advertisement if you installed free version. You can also install premium version to avoid unwanted ads.
Step 1 :- Now launch the ROM Manager and click Recovery Setup under main menu.
Step 2 :- Go and tap on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery option. It’ll also show you current and latest recovery.
Step 3 :- It’ll take few seconds to detect your android phone model and other details. Different phone model requires different version of CWM, So please select your model accordingly.
Step 4 :- Once again select “Flash ClockworkMod Touch” option and it will begin downloading CWM. You’ll see the downloading process bar, wait until entire download process completes.
Step 5 :- Now its time to verify the recently installed ClockworkMod Recovery app on your phone, So first open ROM Manager and click on Reboot into Recovery it will cause phone to enter into ClockworkMod recovery.
If that doesn’t work for you then you should try to manually reboot phone into CWM. For that first shut down your phone. Now at the time of booting keep pressing the key pattern on your phone to get into recovery to get into CWM mode..
This is how you can successfully flash your Android device with Clockworkmod recovery. Thanks for reading my post and hit a thanks if i helped!! :good: :good:

Need to change recovery for Root?

Good,
As the title says, you need to change recovery for Root?
I say this because the Root it will use for one thing only, and if it left a new version of Android, i will unroot and already, but with another recovery would touch me remove the root, after the recovery, etc etc.
I know the question is a little hazing, but I have this doubt
If the only way of rooting is installing another recovery time: when a new update (android course) and remove the recovery, this process will make me lose my data?
I hope you can help me. Greetings To You!

You don't need to flash TWRP permanently to root your phone. Use fastboot boot recovery instead, root, do what you wan't and unroot via SuperSU. This process wouldn't make lose your data, but unlocking bootloader will. And you need to unlock bootloader if you want to do this job done.
