Camera settings.... - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I am confused about the camera, if you look at the picture bellow that I have attached you can see different sizing of images. So for example if I change from 12m to 7m would that decrease quality... Are these m basically for the aspect ratio for example if my TV has 16.9 ration and I take the image at 4.3 ratio does that mean that the 3.7 m would fit on the screen but the 12m wouldn't feet the whole screen... Hopefully you get what I am talking about....
Does the quality get reduced if I use different m's I know that it still says the same pixels for quality.
Does the m mean megapixels?
Sorry this might be a noobish question but I want to find out...

Some of them are the aspect ratio, and some are the amount of compression (visual quality). So there are two 4:3 options in the list, one is going to be cleaner than the other.

The "m" represents the Megapixel i do believe which means yes, as you go down you are effectively lowering the resolution of the images. The aspect ratio is listed to the left and thats pretty much the standards. So yes, 16:9 would fill a standard wide screen and 4:3 would be the old conventional more square aspect ratio.

Hello
Yes the M means Megapixels, here is an example:
"The definition is characterized by the total number of pixels in the image, defined by the number of pixels over the image height multiplied by the number of pixels over the image width." This value is therefore absolute. An image of 2000 pixels by 3000 (6 Mpx because 2000x3000 = 6 000 000) will always have the same number of pixels, whatever size it is given next. A digital camera with a resolution of 10 Mpx (about 3888x2592 pixels) can simply offer a larger size with equal resolution.
So if you change the size of the image there will be fewer pixels and I think it affects the final rendering.

When i open camera & click on Gallery it also shows the WhatsApp videos and pics
I want to set it to only see the Camera pics i click
anyone knows how ?
Please

Always shoot in the highest mega pixels. All the lower ones do is crop the data from the largest setting and throw away the extra picture data before saving. If you save the largest mega pixel setting you can manually crop to all the others afterward if you like. But if you set it to a smaller setting the extra data is never saved.

Try putting a file named exactly ".nomedia" (without quotes, even of 0 bytes it's ok) in the Whatsapp root folder.
If you look into your sdcard folders you can find such a file somewhere, so you can copy and paste it.
Otherwise you could create this file on your PC and then copy to the Whatsapp folder.
Then reboot the phone.

Where in the WhatsApp folder do i put this Folder - .nomedia
In WhatsApp folder there are 2 Folders
1) Databases
2) Media
I put in WhatsApp Folder
It did not work & I do not even see the Folder i created
I HOPE THIS WILL NOT MESS UP MY PHONE Please

Anyway, .nomedia is a file, not a folder!
The folder to put this file is sdcard/Whatsapp.
After adding this file, have you rebooted the phone?
You probably should also have to refresh the gallery database to purge the image caching:
go to Settings, Apps, Show system apps, find Media storage, open it, select the storage memory option and clear the data. Reboot the phone.

I made a Folder & naming it .nomedia, i put it in WhatsApp Folder
After that what i did was Delete all Pics & Videos in WhatsApp folder
Now what has happened is,
I do not see any Folder of WhatsApp Pics/Videos when i go in the Gallery,
which is a Good thing  (rest Folder are there)
So now when i click the Album in Camera
i only see Pics i click with my camera & the Screenshots if i make any
So Thanks Bro somehow it worked for what i wanted
any suggestions do let me know
Can you upload the .nomedia file you were talking about

There are plenty of apps that let you select a directory and the app will add the .nomedia file for you.. just search nomedia in the play store.

The only way to upload on the forum this unusual file is to put it into a zip file.

How can I Video/Pic Compress?.. Is there an App out?.

How would I go about compressing the file size in terms of Mbs used I look through my file manager and into dcim folder and look at all the pics I took and they go from 810kbs to 3mbs. And want to if there is a way to just have a app or something that I can do from the phone to compress the file that it does not take much "mbs" I think total I have about 200 mbs give or take of just pics and I do back up my pics. And same for video (i have about 20mbs give or take) I know about the settings in the camera and video to change the resolutions but I dont want to lose resolutions but not take up so much space. If any of this makes sense lol sorry if it does not lol.
If you crop an image it greatly compressed it. I don't know if any app to do this on multiple images.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
There are free apps to shrink pics in the market.
I use Image Shrink Lite, but I've also used Reduce Photo Size. Both work well, both integrate into the gallery so when you get ready to send a pic, it gives you the option to first send the pic to the app to shrink its size (you pick the final resolution). Both preserve the original file, and save a copy
Image Shrink Lite works first time, every time. Reduce Photo Size didn't always seem to work, so ISL is now my go-to app.
Don't know about video.

MTK6589 can take .RAW pics in EM - how can I open? 15MB per pic!

Hi all,
Finely I see ANDROID can save .RAW pics from camera- but which software to use to open it?
every camera has it's RAW utility- but I don't know if MEDIATEK has one.
using Engeneer Menu->Camera-> selecting PURE RAW and test- its saves .RAW + JPEG pics (15MB .RAW-2MB JPEG)
Photoshop opens them as BW side by side mirror, PAINT.NET with RGB565.DLL opens it as but all the pic in blue color(like BW filter- but blue)
who can help?
+ in this menu we can MANUALLY control the focus - so there is a way to control the focus- so why no manual focus camera app out there?
come on! first time .Raw on android and nothing to say?
What's the point? Yeah you get all the information the sensor captured, but when the sensor is fed by a crappy little phone lens you still have a low quality picture. I'd leave RAW to the real cameras.

It is as the filename suggests.
a 2572 by 1932 10 bit per pixel not normalized vertically flipped bayer pattern that starts with BG pixels image
irfanview can open it with these settings.
Only thing that needs to be done is tweak the colors
And yes there is a very good reson to do it. even though the optical hardware is not perfect, the software makes garbage from that half decent picture that is captured with the optical hardware.

you can try many programs. adobe lightroom, rawtherapee, digikam etc.
the only thing: you have to resave the raw files! nothing cam handle that 10bit format, except irfanview...
I open raw with infraview. In this software have you got a preset or way to correct colors? What option do you use?

ifranview is not able to correcting the colors, you should do this with digkam, lighroom, etc.
or make photos with processed raw option, these could be edited with irfanview too!

I shooted in "pure raw" and then I opened with infraview using setting of this thread (look the image attached please)
However colors are not good. Is it possible correcting directly colors in raw file format? Which software can I use?
I tried also to shoot in "processed raw" but I can't open the file with same infraview settings. Could you tell me right workflow?
Thanks a lot.

pure raw is not processed with any color, brightness, etc algorythms, its come as is from the sensor. the same settings should be also good for pure and processed raw, if both is "capture size".
you can just open/edit/save these raw files with irfanview. after you opened it should resave as tiff/bmp/jpeg2000/jpeg(100% quality) and that resaved file could be editable with other softwares.
I opened it with infraview, and converted in jpeg or other formats, but colors are different from reality (green, or pink). I shared a photo .jpg in my last post converted from a .raw file. Did you see?
How do your tweak colors?
Thanks.

as i said several times before: u must use lightroom, digikam and other kind of tools for editing your photo geometry, color, brightness etc!
you could try dcraw from this thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2753946&page=30 submit a sample shot sensor name device name found in build.prop

[GUIDE] Adding Custom Flip Cover Background Images

This is for Pure XL users that use the flip cover instead of the silicone case (or no case at all)
This was an interesting idea brought up by @MatisasB on this thread.

So I took some time to check it out and found out that it is possible to add or change the current background images that you see when you wake your phone with the flip cover closed.
Requirements:
Rooted Pure XL
Some File Explorer application with root capabilities (I personally use Root Explorer. The stock File Explorer app doesn't work, even if you grant it root permission)
Some suitably large images (at least 1440x1067 to be optimal, but can be larger or slightly smaller)
Image editing software
First get some pictures that you want to use as a background. If they're not 1440 pixels wide and 1067 pixels high (1440x1067), use some image editing software to crop/resize them to that size. It doesn't matter if the image(s) are larger if you only want a portion cropped from it. The image can also be slightly smaller, but resized and cropped to 1440x1067 because honestly, 720p resolution still looks acceptable to me on a 1440p 6.0" screen. Your opinions may differ.
Use your creativity to get them to look like what you want to see through the flip cover window!
Make sure to save in .png format, .jpg doesn't work!
Adding New Backgrounds:
After you're done editing your image, rename them to a number above 10 (11 to 10+whatever number of pictures you want to add)
Copy them to /etc/GN_SkyLight
Restart your phone and see the changes!
Replacing Existing Backgrounds:
Copy your edited images to your phone's internal storage or installed microSD card (Make sure your phone's USB connection is set to the File Transfer mode)
Use your File Explorer app to navigate to /etc/GN_SkyLight
Decide which image(s) you want to replace, and back up those files (e.g. Adding "(Backup)" or "(Original)" to their names, or copy the entire folder to your computer somewhere)
Rename your image files to those file names (1-11).png and copy&replace the old images.
It works instantly without a restart!
Hey, great job. Unfortunately I wasn't able to root this decice yet. I tried lots of 1 click root apps but bone of them worked auntik now...
Hello.
I have a simple question, is there any way to control Spotify with the flip cover closed. I mean, to get access to the controls (next, previous song, start/stop) from the flip cover window.
If this is possible, maybe there's a eway to change the flip cover background by syncing with the album art.
Thank you.

Motion Panorama Conversion?

I took a couple of panoramic photos but didn't realize that the motion panorama setting was turned on. As such the file size for the photos were quite large (30-50mb). Is there any way to convert the photos to a non-motion one so the file size isn't so large?

Can vaguely remember something like when I've done it
No options in the gallery app or in the file explorer I'm suing (Solid Explorer). The motion panorama photo is still in JPEG format.

Try to find the picture/movie from your camera: Start the camera, click on the tiny icon of the last picture you took and swipe until you find the correct one. In that you should see the Save photo option.

I've tried as instructed. The only options I see when I get to the picture is a "more" in the upper right of the screen (options include: rotate left, rotate right, details, slideshow, set as contact picture, set as wallpaper). And on the bottom of the screen the other options are auto adjust, share, edit, and delete.
Hmm... I guess there aer enough apps to remove exif information. Maybe those work to remove all extra info.

How to reduce thumbnail file size? They are huge!

Hi all,
I have two thumbnail files sitting in DCIM/.thumbnail
thumbdata3--1967290299 which is 4.93GB and thumbdata--1763508120 which is also 4.93GB.
Of course deleting them doesn't help because they are regenerated.
So is it possible to control their size? reduce them? or at least, not having two thumbdata files?
Thanks!
You can start with cleaning up the images you do not want. Deleting .thumbnail folder is not going to help as it gets generated as soon as you open your gallery.
In theory, Thumbdata will get bigger and bigger if there new picture appears on your gallery so the more picture you have the bigger thumbdata it will be...now here is the catch, the thumbdata size will not be reduced automatically if you delete a lot of picture on your gallery cause every data in it will remains forever until you delete the thumbdata and let the phone regenerate/re-index all the picture all over again....
so you solution, delete unwanted picture in your gallery then delete thumbdata and thumbdata3 too then reboot your phone a let the gallery re-index everything....you will see the differences in size once you deleted unwanted picture and thumbdata/thumbdata3...if you only delete unwanted picture, thumbdata size will remains the same and if you delete thumbdata/thumbdata3 without deleting the unwanted picture, same thing will happen...
