% of drain SOT - Samsung Galaxy S8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I know there's a battery thread but I wanna have a more detailed comparison of battery drain so that users can check against their own stats please post how much 1% of drain gives you in screen time and specify some things like:
*bin chip: get the info by entering the download mode
*Wi-Fi or cellular1
*brightness
*sync gmail/push mail etc
*screen resolution
*location on/off and settings
*any saving mode
*other settings you think would impact the battery life.
I know it's time consuming but let's be thorough for a minute and please no cheating
We can do by usage as well like: audio/video /gaming/browsing
I'll start
Browsing: 1% drain for 5 mn SOT
Gpu 4 small cores 6 big cores 6
4g
50% brightness
Syncing 4 gmail accounts and Twitter notifications
Fhd+
Location on battery saving on with Wi-Fi scanning
Limiting CPU to 70%
Edge light on
5 apps notifications on
Video: 5mn 1% drain
Watched 1080p video on YouTube
Same settings as above
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

Update; I have exchanged my s8 for a new one and this one looks promising as I get 10mn SOY with same settings as previously used in browsing scenario

Better chip bin on this one?

Only on GPU as this one is 4 vs 3 but something was definitely wrong about the first one either a bad battery or something else.

Custom settings have nothing new except what can be done otherwise also. I mean:
Close WiFi
Close Bluetooth
Close Data Sync
Brightness
Screen timeout
all these settings are there already
Thanks anyways for taking your time out to build this app

Battery issues

So I'm running the 7/15 CM9 rom and today my battery is draining at an alarming rate. The highest percentage isn't even screen its phone? File attached. What is up with this? I've made one 2 minute call ALL day and sent about 20 text messages.

Have you tried InstigatorX's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721235 I've heard that it gives great battery life.
I would ask this in the CM9 thread in the general section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710289 if that doesn't help.
It could be wakelock issues, try to use BetterBatteryStats to monitor the phone's usage. It'll tell you which program or service is using battery. Could also try rebooting. When the phone doesn't go to deepsleep it stays on a specific frequency (CPU) and slowly drains battery. Programs can also cause draining if they're constantly syncing and using mid frequencies rather than low level frequency. Each frequency level (192MHz, 1GHz, 1.5GHz) has different voltages so if it stays at a specific frequency it can drain a lot. CPUSpy is also a simple program that monitors how much time the phone stays at a specific frequency. If your phone has been on for 8hours and 7hours is on deepsleep then there is no wake issues. If it says 8hours and 5minutes is on deep sleep but 384MHz (or any) and you don't have any programs on then you have wake issues or a service is constantly using your resources.

Battery drain while using camera app

While using camera app, my pixel 2's battery drop 1% per minute.
Is this normal ? Does anyone else facing this level of battery drain ?
Bought pixel 2 a week ago. Screen on time is mostly below 5hrs
I've never measured the drop rate, but it is normal for the battery usage to be super high while the camera is operating. It sucks a lot of juice on any device to keep the screen illuminated and process images.
Could it be the HDR mode that's constantly taking photos in the background just in case you capture a shot?

Or maybe you have location saving enabled... That could drain quickly too.
Yes, I have very high drain whilst the camera app is 'live'. Take a few photos and it's always the top draining foreground app. I have considered this 'normal'. I think the processor and/or sensor is working hard doing whatever it has to do. I was hoping this drain would stop in later firmware that uses the image processor in the Pixel, but maybe it's not yet being used or have similar power drain.
Other than the camera app, I have very good battery performance out of my Pixel with my usage model. AccuBattery reports a 6h54m SOT full battery time estimate but my phone never does 100% - 0% cycles, so this is only an estimate.

What is sucking the battery? Also battery usage percentages don't add up.

3000Ah battery lasts only 3 days with basically no usage. Also percentages don't add up.
What could be the cause? Any quality apps that can determine the cause?

and what seems to be the problem ? its fairly normal. you thought the battery will hold 3 months ? what cause ? well the wifi and mobile network. those also consume battery. turn on airplane mode and you will see 4 days.
I had phones with 2500mAh batter lasting almost 7 days with minimal usage.
Also app usage was: 12% + 5% + 3% + 2% + 2% + 1% + 1% = 26%
so something is sucking 74% of battery??
Turns out WiFi connections sucks the battery even if you're not downloading anything.
Android/Google battery usage calculation is just terrible.

Question 12S Ultra battery life

I made a mistake to my battery.
I'd like to see what did i lose, can you share your battery usage screenshot.
What i did bad to my battery :
Charging while video recording by mistake, did i kill the battery?
I have Xiaomi 12s ultra, i was extremely happy with battery life. One evening camera was recording while charging by mistake, when i wanted to check, it was 35>56 in 40 minutes, and phone battery charging was very slow because it was unbelievable...

Ask other users to post their battery usage screenshot remains very relative, indeed for absolute precision, it would be necessary that you use the same rom and especially with the same settings and that you use, for example, Chrome on the same duration, same for other apps.
Note that Wifi consumes more than data for certain uses.
Wi-fi Vs Mobile Data Battery Drain: Do Mobile Batteries Drain Faster On Mobile Data Than On Wi-fi?
Mobile data drains more battery than Wi-Fi because a continuous cellular connection needs to be maintained constantly with towers quite far away.
www.scienceabc.com
Seems like there is not a big problem. I'm sure it was bad in the first days. Xiaomi 12s ultra has a battery management chip, which is said to be repairing cells. It is doing what it says i think. Well done Xiaomi engineers. 5:30 SOT from morning to night with lte most of the day is simply amazing.
