I did the update re Bixby.
Afterwards struggled a bit to launch it.
However i found that by double tapping button, (sometimes once also works) Bixby works fine for me.
I have no performance issues. No visible battery drain. I have configured Bixby to my personal liking.
So overall (under current circumstances) Bixby
works ok for me. I can see my incoming emails, Weather and app i regularly use.
But yes i do mostly use Google personal assistant
features (mostly for advance issues/searches infi etc
)
Bottom line,
Bixby works ok.!

Thanks I just don't trust ota updates but the install icon is annoying lol....as far as Bixby I don't mind it I just don't need everything else messing up because of an update....they tend to fix one problem/patch just to break another

I will go ahead and install

[APP][3.x][4.x] full!screen - App to hide/replace Systembar

This little app acts as a replacement or companion to the default systembar on tablets. It can hide and restore systembar on most Android 3.x and 4.x devices.
Also like similar apps it requires root.
Unlike "GMD Hidebar" or "Hide Bar" which are recommended for simply using the device in "Kiosk mode" this app is meant to be more like an replacement for the systembar. It provides two configurable softbuttons which can be configured in position, size, color and transparency or can be completely disabled.
Several actions can be assigned to the buttons. Each button holds up to three actions, one for short, one for long click and one for swipe above the button. Possible actions:
Nothing: Um, yeah.. this does... nothing. Not sure why I implemented this.
Go back: Acts as the known "back" button to navigate back within apps.
Go to homescreen: Shortcut to directly go to homescreen... just like at the original systembar
Show recent apps: Will show a little panel to quickly switch between recently used apps. Unfortunately the well known "swipe to kill" function of the original can't be implemented because the necessary permission is only granted to apps with systems signature.
Restore systembar: An action to quickly restore systembar. With the latest version this can also be done by notification.
Show notifications: The second most important feature of the systembar. It shows a panel displaying the notifications. It is a complete reimplementation so some features are not available for now. The basic function works well on most devices.
Open apps menu: Older apps usually display their menu-button within the systembar. This action now can open the menu for those apps.
Pie Menu: Opens a configurable Pie Menu next to the touch area. This menu can be configured individually for each event.
This free version is fully functional and should be absolutely sufficient for most users. For lazy ones like me, who don't want to manually hide'n'restore systembar each time, there is a "plus"version available which automatically hides systembar for selected apps.
Oh, and yes, the free version shows a little advertisment for the plus version once in a while... if you want to get rid of it: just click this advert three times and it won't appear again. If you didn't buy the plus version after visiting it's store entry three times you probably won't ever.

Works good, I just need the notification area back and it's perfect!!
Works great for me.
Suggestions:
Multi colors

Sweet, this works for ICS too? Gonna try it out now.

Thanks for your feedback.
The recent apps panel should be closed when tapping on back button or anywhere alse outside the panel.
Well there is indeed a issue when "short click action" is set to something else than "Go back". Then tapping on button does not hide the panel. Did you mean this? I'll fix that.
I just got a message the wallpaper-workaround does not work at all on one device.
Since the wallpaper-issue was one of my main topics I am eager to solve this.
At least me and some testers never ran into this problem: if anyone else experiences this, please drop me a line. I need to collect some information to delimit that issue.
update:
the latest version now introduces the missing Notifications Panel.
At least for me the missing access to notifications was the only reason to ever restore the original systembar. So now it nearly always stays hidden.
A little drawback: new notifications so far are only being reported by sound. My own tablet doesn't have a LED and Vibro, so I personally am not missing this.
Hope you like it!
Great little app and I would be happy to shell a couple of bucks for it, one suggestion if I may though: it seems to be the case that all those who develop this kind of on-screen button apps forget to put a feedback for when the button is being pressed (momentary change of color preferably).
Since your app seems to be of the most complete offerings I think it would be great if you were to implement it in a given future. Android devices are often no strangers to lag so a feedback of any kind (that the button was actually pressed) I think it would improve the usability by quite a lot and hopefully it is easy to be implemented too...
Again thanks for this great app, here's looking forward for future updates

Seems that those developers hardly ever imagine to operate an Android device with somthing else than their big Wurstfinger-thumbs
When I use the app I don't see the buttons since they are completely covered by my fingers. But you are right, when using eg. one of those attach-to-TV-Android-sticks which are operated by mouse and keyboard, and having systems touch sounds disabled, there is no feedback at all.. It's pretty easy to implement such optical feedback, soon to be done.
thanks for your suggestion.

Not much else to suggest -I guess- sort from allowing more actions (through the press of the buttons) but that can be done later... oh and a way to have the buttons accessible regardless of being fullscreen or not (for those who'd love to have "hot corners" at all times)... oh and a minor bug report now that we're at it: upon reboot the app gets superuser permission but does not procede to enable the service (even though I have "enable at boot" selected).
Again thanks for this great app, loving it so far
This works really well on the Nexus 7. I was using GMD gesture control and i had remapped my volume buttons so they could be used as back and home but this is much handier. I can now have my buttons back.
Many thanks
I bought the paid version.
I have been looking an app like this for a while, tried others but this is perfect for what i want.
Top job!!
The latest version includes visual feedback for button-press. I chose a not to flashy color, hope you like it. I am thinking of implementing the before suggested user-colorable buttons but this may take some time...

mhh, I could only confirm this behaviour when setting SuperSu to prompt for granting su-access to the app. Which su-Manager are you using?
Did you set your su-Manager to automatically grant access to full!screen? This is necessary because the timeout waiting for su-access is set to 10 seconds... Since full!screen uses that accessibility-service it gets loaded at very early stage... far before other apps get loaded. Depending on how long it takes to fully load the system the timeout might occur even before the su-Manager gets a chance to Display it's confirmation-dialog.

I was usuing "superuser" so maybe that was why; once I've installed superSu the issue went away and now it boots with my system I've I asked it to
As for the visual feedback it works great but it goes away a bit too soon (Google's own feedback lasts quite a bit longer when one presses -say- the home button) and also it's less than visible when one uses low opacity. I like how the color is discrete though, great choice :good:
All in all I'll recommend this to friends what a great app
BugReport:
While using the app, SnapChat wont work. It FCs. When turning off fullscreen, it works.
Edit: To be to the point; One can take a picture with snapchat and put a comment on it, but when you press "send" it FCs.

installed this SnapChat on my tablet and could send and receive pictures without problems. I am just to blind to find a place to enter a comment to the picture!?
Anyway, I doubt I could do anything about another app complaining about missing systembar or something...
Is it a phone you installed the app to? ... there are some problems known with phone devices like not receiving calls anymore.. may be it's some related problem. :-/

You just click the screen for adding a comment.
Anyhow, yes. Its a phone. Its my Xperia V.
I got quite a few apps tho, so it might just aswell be any other app aswell.
But I found it to good to be a coincidence when I disabled fullscreen and then it worked.
The FC still happends when I dont comment btw.
But it might be SC complaining ofcourse. But its no problem, I just added an invisible button to get the systembar back before I take pictures with SC.
Your app is the only one working properly btw. the lower left and right buttons that you've added are perfect. I can make them small and invisible wich makes it perfect. GREAT job!
Keep up the good work.
I'd like the option to have the notification bar on, but the onscreen buttons off, with just the corner buttons etc., if that makes sense. I like having the notification bar on, I think it's useful. Apologies if there is a way to do this already, I couldn't seem to find it.
It would be good if it rearranged the app icons too to fill the extra space better.
Or alternatively, I would like notification on, original onscreen buttons on but transparent with screen visible behind them, that would be a good option too, I think.
Thanks for the app though.

Unfortunately that not possible at all... at least not without patching original systemUI. Buttons bar and notifications bar are created by the same process. Disabling this process obviously means disabling both bars. I might implement an internal UI similar to the original systemUI some day. But thats at the end of a long list of wishes and suggestions I got so far, because it would take much, much work.
Re: [App][3.x][4.x] full!screen - App to hide/replace Systembar
Hi, this program is almost perfect for me, but I have a question: given that it's oriented towards tablets, ¿do you foresee any problem using it in a phone?. I've installed the free version in my Xperia T and it seems to work alright, but I want to be sure.

Thinking of trying a custom rom. Couple of questions.

Hi all. I have a SM-G930F on the latest UK BTU Nougat firmware. I have a fair bit of standby drain probably about 10% overnight with or without AOD. I also find the home button to respond kind of slow when closing apps but I dunno if that's just me. Anyway the whole point of this is can anybody recommend a stable ROM that would make the phone run smoother and have less standby drain?
The thing with the home button I mean is if you press it it can take a second or so sometimes before closing the app. I never seen my Xperia Z1 or Z2 do that like they close as soon as you tap it.
Also would triggering KNOX affect anything else on the phone apart from it just saying 0x1? I use the fingerprint sensor in apps also so I'm not sure if a custom ROM will disable that.
Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance if anyone has any help to offer.
The home button delay can probably be fixed by disabling s-voice and/or double tap home button for camera
For standby drain, try clearing caches from recovery
Other things can be disabled without root using Package Disablers from the play store

Thanks. It does seem to respond faster with the camera quick launch on which is kind of awkward since I like having that option but I'll put up with it. Holding it launches Google at the minute. I'll have a look at the other stuff and see what standby drain is like from there too.

Seems (With MM anyway) there are two quick launch settings for the same function, Applications > camera and in the actual camera settings too
For me disabling them both makes it faster than just one of them, although when you toggle one, it should toggle the other too, but doesn't appear too
EDIT - Correction, it appears 3 times, also in Settings > Advanced features
Not sure I see the need for the same function to be in three different locations, unless they're copying Windows 10 now

That Stipid Bixby button

It doesn't seem to do anything since an update i got yesterday on ATT. Anyone else have the same issue ?
Before the update, Bixby button was working fine. After the update, button didn't work initially. I tried enabling swipe on homescreen to activate bixby and then tried button ( I had to double click instead of single click). after that, it worked but launching bixby with button became very slow. I'm still using double click to launch and I wish they push out a new update soon.
I'm also on AT&T
I too have this problem. In my case, even two quick presses in succession fails more often than it succeeds.

Are you on AT&T as well ? I have the same problem too. Swipe on home screen works well for now. It takes about a second to load but using button IF I successfully launch bixby, it takes about 4-5 seconds to launch. Before the update, it was instantaneous.
One thing I noticed is if I disable breifing in Bixby cards, performance improved. Try and see if it works
Edit: I can confirm that after disabling breifing, bixby works well.

I am not--T-Mobile here.
Agreed: disabling the 3 cards I had running gets the double press to work reliably. However, doesn't that defeat the purpose of Bixby (what little there is right now)?
Double tab does the trick. Is new after the latest update.

oh yeah I agree. It's just a temp fix till they push update. They introduced this bug after update...so they should fix it soon
I'm also on T-Mobile and having this issue (just got my S8+ yesterday). I was going to return the phone to T-Mobile for are placement until I found this post. Now I know that I have to wait for an update to fix it as a new phone would exhibit the same problem after I did the update.
New update was push out to stop people from remapping bixiby button and stop accidental pressing of it.
So its now a double click.
Best thing is to have online chats with samsung and complain about this. If enough people do it, they will oush out an update to fix it.
Verizon here. I have noticed mine works with double clicking Bixby about 60% of the time, and 30% of the time it works with a single click. Remaining 10% being me left holding the phone staring at the home screen waiting.
The annoying bit is that it's inconsistent, so when a single click decides to work it opens and then immediately closes if I double clicked it.
Double press and wait a second or two before it decides to actually show up ?
What does Stipid mean?
Can get Bixby Remapper from Playstore. It allows remapping even after the update. It's free too.

Uh which one? I see like 4. I'm going to try this on my wife's s8. She wants it to open camera. I disabled all the Bixby crap on my s8+ and I like it that way. Samsung is as bad as the government these days with their cramming stuff down people's throats. Great phones though

utter waste of time. If this is so far off being ready they should have excluded it and added it to the note 8 or allow it to be mapped to something usable in the meantime.
Worked fine for me in the UK before the update. Now its a double tap with varying degrees of content.
yesterday I got an update on AT&T( mifhr be rhe red tint fix). Post update, bixby button is working fine

A quick access to my calander, imp email, uber, S health.
Things bixby does better than google:
Good integration with work email and events from work calender, twitter also flipboard feed
Things google does better than bixby:
Google on tap and stories related to my previous search. I absolutely love google on tap, especially when tracking packages and good integration with my gmail accounts.
I don't wanna pick one over other. I like and use both of them
I click the Bixby and it takes a few seconds each time to load and refresh, no Google integration (Keep, Waze, etc...) another half baked Samsung idea they will insist on tormenting us with.

Android 9 (Pie) - Bugs after Update

Hello to the XDA Dev Community.
I'd like to start a threat with bugs after the Android Pie update on our devices.
1. Bug:
Camera App forgets the "volume down key" binding. Means, when double pressed in standby mode the cam is not started.
Solution: Sadly this works only temporary - start the cam app and exit or close. After that the above mentioned shortcut / quickstart works for a short time in standby mode.
2. Bug:
This one is still not repaired: when switching to black mode (to lower the battery consumption) one can not see in the apps overview which of the apps are deactivated - the letters are not visible. When you have the white menues, the term "deactivated" is quite readable. (This bug is existent from the beginning with Android 8 - i chatted on this topic with the customer service of Huawei last year but that guy had no blink of an idea, he sounded very unexperienced.)
My Device:
Unbranded, European version, yesterday received the update.
Wonder if anyone experienced same difficulties and perhaps if there are solutions to this.
Have a good day
Whenever you do a significant upgrade, do a factory reset. This cures most problems, people need to start doing this rather then moaning.
Quite a good idea - but I am long enough into the smartphone scene (since Windows CE and Mobile) to know well that "factory reset" is unfortunately not the magic solution to all problems as some would like it to be...
Of course factory reset is done. Problems are still there, and to be honest - we would have not awaited it as a solution to both bugs i mentioned above a priori, would we?
Well besides I recognized another bug or feature(?)
3. Bug (or feature?):
The native mail app no more shows contacts pictures left to the associated mails.
Does someone know if this is somehow configureable?
Thx in advance
Hi,
found next bug.
4. Bug:
Fast double tapping the "square button" works inconsistently.... It should switch between the two last apps in the tasklist..... May be it has to do with a little time delay / time lag in reaction of EMUI9/Pie... I have the slight feeling that the OS is not that fluent as before (under Android 8)
I hope that is it....
That AI thing in the left most corner in the camera APP is not working, it is the same button as the one you see next to the search bar when you swipe down for searching. I think it used to be some kind for scanner or products? Now the button just flicks and does nothing.

Hey there,
Have you tried to go to battery optimisation (go to settings, hit the search bar on top and start writing "optim" and the first one), then search for "camera" and disable battery optimisation. It solved the problem for me.
I've found that the Pie is more aggresive overall with killing the background apps. I've had to add way more applications (than on droid 8) to the "disable battery optimizations" and to "app launch" (in settings, battery, app launch -> set applications that you want to survive on the background to "manage manually")

Thanks, will try your idea!
OTA Update: Against all info - the update was found by manual search in the standard system settings. As it was found I parallely checked HiCare App - NO updates were found, it was a joke!
So maybe also check this way, do not trust HiCare alone.
Update:
Found and activated the performance mode (as you said - battery settings). Sadly no change in performance of the app-switching.

Hi,
It helps a bit, but still inconsistently working, even after restart of the device. I also tried to put EMUI into the AppAssistant app to enforce it, but the app is not selectable (guess it should be HiStart, EMUI or something like that)...
Only solution atm is to SLOWLY double-tapping the square button.

Update on this issue, I tried to clear data and cache which brought me back to give consent again and all but it still didn't work. What I did was disable it, which tuned it into factory default and then enabled it again and wolah, it works again. Thanks for informing me about the app name btw, would have been impossible without it. HiVision.
Calendar invites for office365 meetings cannot properly be accepted on the device. it sends the originator a 'not supported format.ics' file - rather than actually accepting the meeting.
Pretty stupid tbf. I'll look to move off the standard mail client i reckon
My P20 Pro (C782) finally prompted me to updated to Pie today, but having done so I'm experiencing choppy / clipping / stuttering audio when connected to my Sony WH-1000XM3's (using LDAC codec). This wasn't happening on Oreo at all.
I've done a factory reset, but the issue persists. Happens throughout whatever's playing (Spotify, Tidal, PocketCasts, YouTube) and is especially noticeable when pressing the power button to activate the screen.
Any ideas?
Anyone else having problems with the volume rocker?
I can't slide the volume to the left to get multiple profiles. Isn't it possible with the pie update?

Wonder if the volume rocker is not vertically orientated in Pie. Mine is working good, sliding down goes to silent. Above the slider is a button for vibration, sound and silence.

Sounds to be a limitation by Huawei software...
I also recognized following bug (Android 8 & 9):
If I configure any mail account to "manually" in the native Huawei mail app, the app still looks for mails after a time when i only open the inbox....
Same situation when device goes into ultra power saving mode or automatically powers off because of low power....after return to normal state or reboot after charge the app now looks on all mail accounts for new messages itself/automatically. This happens when WIFI was on before powersaving mode or power off. As soon WIFI is available at startup or return to normal mode aforementioned situation occurs.... Can be avoided by canceling WIFI connection to the server/router....
That is indeed annoying!

And what does sliding to the side do?
It should show all the profiles like media, alarm and phone volume? No?
I noticed that the homescreen shortcuts, that arised if you press and hold on the Phone Manager icon, were removed. Too bad, would link the power mode to homescreen. Even better would be a shortcut in the Quick Settings.

Do notifications work with screen off or not?

Hi all. In this Video the reviewer states that he isn't getting any notifications with the screen off. Also it is a problem for one of our members. Is anyone else having these hassles? Do you get incoming text, email AUDIO notifications without waking the phone?
Hi
I have no issue with notification at all..
Even when screen is off ..
U do have to active notification from each app setting and alow all permissins...
Also keep in maind to keep app running remove battery restriction from app setting also..
All will work normal
Working for me but I did need to grant WhatsApp and Trurcaller lots of permissions.
I even got True Edge installed for a visual way to get notified and that works brilliantly with the device asleep with screen off.
I was a bit surprised at the extra level of permissions needed. It's all gravy now, but I could see why a reviewer or somebody unaware would get caught out
But yes, I am getting notifications with the screen off in sound and visually, without having to wake the phone.
Indeed at first I wasn't getting any notifications but then I discovered you need to go into the app info and give permission for notifications and turn off battery saver.. now it works perfect and only for the apps I want
The video the OP posted is exactly whats happening to me. I have all the settings as described. Battery saver turned off and even when into each apps settings and allowed ALL permissions just to see if it would work. As the video says, notifications come, but you have to wake the device to see them, there is no sound or anything on screen until the device is woke. Exactly as the video describes. I do hope its fixed soon, I am back to using my Note 5 whilst my beautiful 10 Ultra sits in its box.

Have you undone your earlier modifications to the phone (copying files from phone to phone etc)?
You have two problems and the one to ignore for now is louder notifications. It's notifications at all.
It isn't something to fix from Xiaomi's view and it is always worth learning the software. I don't like it myself... It can be cloying etc.
But the default behaviour is to opt in to notifications. It's working as intended. That said look where we are, it's just your problems are a special case. No biggie, let's fix this!
You have an outstanding issue clouding this where you are trying to use unexplained files on the device (like seriously what format are they? Does it work in Music or anything? Have you tried removing them?)
Took a while but I get all my notifications now when screen is off, see 2vattached screen shots
Thanks all for answering my question! I think this is my last question before buying from Liaow.com, if the syncing isn't a constant problem. Does anyone have a major syncing problem as explained in this review? Once or twice a day I can deal with. I check the calendar throughout the day like most people. However if I get busy and forget, missing calendar events/alarms wouldn't work for me. I'd be forced to use my work iPhone<shudder> for calendar events lol.

How did you get the icons to show on the lock screen?
Mine doesn't. Quite annoying.
Also sometimes the lockscreen doesn't show me notifications even tho they are there.. :s
I have no issues with icons displaying while locked. You do need to enable them and ensure they start automatically and power control is turned off for the app. It has been much easier in the EU ROM for some reason.
Solution!
Here is the thing that helped me with the same notification issue! Just google "xiaomi mi 10 ultra notifications" and in the top 5 links you'll probably find an article from: theunpopulartraveller. It explains the settings, and they need to be accessed by pressing and holding the app icon ^ app info.
Don't give up, try and you'll get the sounds from needed apps back. And ye, actually now I find the way Xiaomi did it much more convenient: I just turned on notifications for 2 apps, and all the rest are silent, while previously I had to turn off all the rest of the apps (much more than 2, definitely) not to get disturbed by all the bull****.
EU Rom doesn't have the "importance" option at 30/31
Well after trying to update to 12.1.1 and seeing what a buggy heap of junk it was, I factory reset, installed 12.0.15, and formatted data. But now notifications don't work when the screen is off whatsoever, absolutely no notifications. Beautiful. I'm so sick of the software issues with this phone, I'm definitely never buying another Xiaomi phone at this point.

Disable adaptive notifications from setting. I dont know what google thinking when creating such feature.
it basically interrupt the whole notification process. Using so called Ai to decide, when to give you notifications or when not to. But most of the time it pick wrong decision and delay our notification altogether.
This is android feature since Q thus also causing problem on Pixel phone. On xiaomi seems like it suddenly got worse on Android 11

How did u manage to roll back to 12.0.15?
Get over to the EU ROM version. Lock screen notifications work fine.
Have you checked each notification that it has no battery optimisation set, also, check in notifications that each one has access to the lock screen. Since A11, notifications have been a pain but for some reason they do work much better on the EU ROM.

There are issues for Gpay and some banking / local safetynet apps for EU ROM which i do not wish to live with.
Somehow the props file in the eu rom causes those issues.
i am probably going to rollback to 12.0.15... now is the excruciating 160 hours wait for unlock.
You obviously don't follow the EU forums. GPay works, safeynet works and my UK bank works. But you also get everything plus more than the Chinese stock and all updates are based on both weekly and stable stock ROMs respectively.

i don't follow it to the tee, but i've seen some reports of some users not able to use gpay out of the stable roms.
that's why.. too much trouble.. i'll see what i can do when the unlock timer is up..
