Low quality mms? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

When I would send a short video via mms on my Note5, the quality was great. Now that I am on the S8+, you can barely tell whats going on due to low quality.
Any way to correct this?

Depends on what messaging app you use I'm using Message+

Currently on the Samsung app until google fixes their mms sending issue (I used that app on the note5). Tried textra too w same result
Edit ... textra may be working ... resent one instead of viewing one sent on a prior app!

[Q] mms issue. People can't receive my pics

I am running the infused 1.5.3 rom and go sms. When I try to send a picture to my friend who has the exact phone I do and also my wife who has the iphone 4. They are both receiving this message
"Your phone is not compatible with this message type or size. Portions of this message will not be displayed."
Yet pics I send to my friend who has verizon go just fine. Is there some setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried sending the message through the stock messaging app?

My friend with his infuse can send me pics and I can get pics from my wifes iphone 4 when she sends them as well but they can't get mine.

does your phone ask you if you would like to resize them when you try and send...if so are you selecting yes
are there any other changes that you have made like:
freezing thesms/mms app
using a different sms app
etc etc
and then the same goes for their end...
have they made any changes, do they receive pics from others and only not yours

I am using go sms and I've tried stock sms. I haven't froze any sms apps. It doesn't ask me to resize, just the usual compressing or resizing message it normally gives without prompting for a user response. My friends infuse is stock and not rooted and my wifes iphone 4 is jailbroken but nothing has changed anytime recently with it. The apps I have frozen is just media hub. Yes they can receive pics from others and send them as well.
Edit: I have media hub, maps, and news & weather frozen.
Actually it just reads "converting to multimedia message" no prompt for anything. Very frustrating as to why mainly verizon people are getting my pics and not others. Thats how it seems anyway.
As far as trying to send pics that I actually took with my phone then forget about it. Longest I've had it sit is about 15 minutes before I get pissed and just delete the send. Those stay stuck on "sending" and never go anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe I'm missing some kind of setting after flashing infused

I use handcent...in the settings there is an option of "max mms message size limit"
I believe you want that to be 2mb...anything over that will not send to some phones.
that has been the only instance where some people did not receive my msgs.
Have you tried on wifi and network? I have not noticed the issue on att, but on sprint you could not send or receive mms while on wifi
those are the only things I can think of

I do currently have it set to 4g 5M for the photo size. I could give that a shot. Still odd that it would not send to my friends infuse I have tried wifi and att network and home I have the 3g microcell which is NOT worth the $200. I'm kinda pissed I bought it.
If you want full bars yet calls cut in and out and you want to resend each text about 4 times cause they will instantly fail (happens no where but when I'm connected to microcell) then pick one up lol
But yea the mms issue happens elsewhere as well.

I kept the size the same for now but unchecked preserve image size and now it seems the pics send. Yesterday it would be stuck on sending. I can only test with people at work. The ones with issues are asleep right now. Hopefully that or the 2m image size fixes the issue

Mms

Hello. I just noticed today that when someone sends me a picture it is in such ****ty quality but when we compare it with the original picture the original one was not ****ty. This happens to all my Mms pictures. Just wondering if it's just my phone or what? I am also using axism rom and have not tried Mms on another rom.

Can't see emoji from iPhones or ppl from other carriers unless MMS

Is there any way to fix this?... people with iphones only see question marks when I send emoji and I receive them the same way...I can see them on twitter Instagram and Mms tho. Is there a way to fix this? Never had this problem on my S3 and its really bugging me

Do you use google voice? It's better with emojis than it used to be, but still not the best, could be the cause of your problem, I know it is mine.
yeah i do use google voice. I've tried sending SMS over 3G and 4G using google voice and my carrier in the hangouts app with no luck. I think it must have something to do with antenna in our phone or something because it sends fine over wifi
I know it's a pain, but try disabling voice, or just have the voicemail part used. Not through the app, but on your computer, like completely disable voice and try that way. From what I know, it can't handle the emojis and they generally get turned into an mms in order to send. try it out and see if that's really your problem or not.
Ahhhhh thank you so much I can finally send them. Sprint integration with google voice was the problem. Once disabled it worked fine

Sweet, that was my issue too, too bad it had to come down to using emojis, or texting over wifi and from computers and stuff. It's a tough one for me.

Have you noticed when in a group message?

I just noticed when I was in a group message I could see when the others were typing and when they read my message? Does this only work when messaging others who have the note 5? That was the case but I can't find any options for this
I should mention that I did find settings for "chat" that would allow me to see the others typing and when they have read my message...but I had turned those off before noticing the typing message and had confirmed they were off after noticing.

Here
It's a new implementation baked into Android devices on T-Mobile. The Note 5 and Edge Plus are 3rd and 4th ever to get it, I believe.
Edit: Here you go.

I haven't noticed it texting anyone else so I couldn't tell you. It's funny though, in the group text I was in...two others were in it....both T-Mobile users and both note 5 users...only one person had the "typing" showing when texting

Anyone experiencing a lag or delay when messaging?
Sent from my SM-N920T using XDA Free mobile app
Basically, it's like iMessage for Android. If both phone users have the Advanced Messaging installed on their phones, they will be able to see when the other has read a text or is typing. It's going to be great to see when it is implemented on more devices.

To see the "is typing" while texting go to messages, more, settings, chat settings, turn on share typing indications also if you turn off read receipts than the other person won't see if you've read his messages or not but you can still see theirs if their settings are switched to on
You don't need to be in group text for this to work it seems to only be working with the newer phones, I just upgraded 3 phones 1 note and 2 edge plus' and we tested it out

Yes you will see when someone has read yours or if it's been delivered because they have their settings on, but they will not be able to see it on their end since your settings are checked to off

Man this makes me sad I wish it was on hangouts

Looking to affirm/disaffirm an issue HTC tech is being obstinate about

It seems known that SMS/MMS services, even when properly provisioned, are working only within the default HTC Messenger app.
I have been unable to send quality photos through their app, and would like to know if anyone else has this same issue. HTC has vehemently stated that reduced file size and image quality are normal for their service, which is understandable to a degree, because that is how compression works. However, I feel my device may be worse than what they believe it to be.
The inability to send quality images, combined with the forced use of their messaging app if you want to be able to send/receive MMS at all is, frankly, blatantly misleading. I am very sad that I can take beautiful pictures on the amazing camera, and yet not send them to anyone.
However, it may be normal, and I may be over-reacting. Since I am inherently biased, here is a link to a photo comparison between the before and after. Whether this is in line or out of of line with others' experience, please let me know.

Thank you in advance.
You're on android, you can use any SMS app you want.
For example I use "Pulse".
If you want to use Google app, you can do it by tweaking through ADB, searches for it in Xda.

Good to know. I had only tried the HTC, Android, and Verizon apps previously.
Do your images sent via MMS seem to send fine, or do they suffer from over-compression?

Yes, I can definitely tell that the first attachment is the compressed one, though I don't know that it's as blurred as mine.
I guess it just upsets me that they tout this excellent camera and I cannot send near the quality I can take at, while there's plenty of room still for media size.
I'll live, but between this issue and, mostly, the customer/tech support quality I've received I'm, sadly, doubtful I'll be purchasing another HTC.

On a lighter, note: I checked out Pulse, seems pretty nice. Thanks for the steer in that direction. :good:
