Replacing Battery EV20 instead of EV30 - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am trying to replace the battery of my Droid Razr HD. I ordered an EV30 replacement on Aliexpress but I just saw they delivered an EV20. It takes about a month for packages to arrive so I am wondering if I can use the EV20 in the meantime. Will it perform ok just last less time.? It seems to be from Motorola.
Specs: EV30 is 3.8V 2460/2530 mAh (min/typ) 9.3/9.6 Wh (min/typ)
EV20 is 3.8V 1750/1780 mAh 6.7/6.8 Wh

The devices are different and the battery are different. The batterys are also different and are not the same size. Also the xt926 hd is a calf device and the xt912 is not. A calf device has snapdragon firmware. I hope this enlightened your understanding a little.

Thanks for the explanation
I actually went ahead and put it in because the replacement is not going to come for a while. After half a day everything seems to be working. The battery life is not good but that makes sense since the capacity is less.
The battery was the same size just a bit thinner. I do not know how snapdragon firmware influences battery compatibility.

Glad it working for you but if if issues arrive take the battery out. If you ever have any problems I have an extra battery just sitting there in a package. I have two one is the 3330 that came out of the hd maxx and the the other one is the 2530 I took out when I replaced the motherboard. I dont mind giving up one. They both work and have full cell capacity. I held onto them just in case the battery in my current hd took a crap. Also the 3,300 mah one works in one of my other devices wich holds more ram 2gb.

I understand the battery capacity number is hardcoded in the HD, so even if it were higgher capacity, it would still show that.
If you have a multimeter or other specialised equipment, that's the best way. Also, you'll need to run a few charging cycles to get a good comparison.
But anyway, cheap ebay batteries are just that. If you search this section, you will see tens of threads about fake batteries offering high capacity.
The only geniune high capacity battery is Mugen's, there are a couple of threads already about this battery.
(or buy a power-pack/recharger, eg 5000mah for €25-30)

wow thats real ****...thanks for the warning...Ive heard issue on all the brands that make aftermarket battery...only the original HTC seems to be actually the best performing units.
Not only the stock battery is probably the best performing one, but also the safest. Always be aware of the expansion and the heat that cheap batteries produce. It can damage your phone easily.
As for the capacity measurement, if you drain/charge the battery with higher current, it will show less capacity. Still the measured 1176mAh is probably closer to the truth than the printed 1800mAh.
thanks man for the warning

after 4th charging still giving shorter performance then stock battery.i will stop at tv repair centre early in next week then post here their measurement.personally i won't expect more like 1200mAh

To compare the two batteries you should rate them in the same conditions. So if you can leave the stock battery with them to test them both and post the results I would be grateful.

Agreed, I bought one of these Andida batteries from eBay as well, had it in for a couple of months & i've now gone back to the original battery. In my opinion, it doesnt last as long as the stock HTC battery.
I´ve bought this battery last week over ebay and at the 1st day i was pleased, because the operating time with it seems better than with the original battery. But after five daily loading sessions the battery drain gets faster and faster. Yesterday, after 1,5 hours Angry Birds and a little time listening music it runs from 100 to 38%. Today i´ve installed the original battery back and i was surprised. After five days in the drawer of my desk it shows 99% accu state. I will stay at the original.
not 1800mAh
It has only 1170mAh
anyone find a good replacement with higher cap ?
Thanks for warning.
As far as i know there's nothing better then mugen's 1500 =(
Don't look just mAh's, they will not tell all. Also, if HTC's factory battery costs ~30€, who believe that the battery which costs 10 euros, can be better than the original..?

BUt this isn't the gold one although i bet it's made at the same factory, oh the gold battery weigh in at 27 Lol i had a gold battery but got a full refund, so i opened it up, and there was a small battery inside, with a spacer built around it!
Really?! Oh lame...it's shipped.
I guess the only way to find out is to test it and form my own verdict.
can someone explain me technically how the weight of the battery relates to the performance.
apart from getting a case with a smaller battery inside.

generally speaking the weight of the battery relates to the amount of li-ion in the battery (this can only be a generalization due to the casing of the battery and the like) but simply put the higher the weight the larger amount of li-ion in the battery which increases the Amp Hours; Ah
edit: so continuing on a 2300mAh battery should be heavier than a 1500mAh battery as it would have more li-ion in it
so anyone got one this already and tested it out
I have BXT'S extended model BP6X and am using it with my Motorola XT720. The BXT battery weighs in at 24g (it is rated at 2200 mAh) and the OEM BP6X weighs in at 28.7g (which is rated at 1390 mAh) I have used the battery for about a day (with the charge that it had shipped with) and it didn't last very long. I was also running a 1.2ghz overclock at the time so that could have contributed to it too. I believe however that I need to charge it for about 10 hours or so the first charge, just to make sure it has its full capacity. (which I have not done yet) I can give a full overview in a day or so if you guys would like.
This is the one I have:

Seeing as it weighs less and claims its 2300 mah I call this battery a load of crap like the other 2300 mah battery. It prolly has spacers around a smaller battery.

Yes, that is probably true. I have also heard reports of android's battery meter not correctly read the % of battery power on these BXT extended batteries but it may vary from phone to phone so people will have to test it out on their devices. What the report said was that the battery would quickly drop to 25% and then it would take HOURS to drop to 0% but low battery messages would pop up frequently during that time because the phone believed the battery was that low, even though the actual battery % was not that low because it was just incorrectly reading it. I could not tell yet from a few hours of use whether or not I experienced this problem with my BXT BP6X.
Don't buy bxt 2300 mah
I ordered this BXT 2300mAh battery on July 21st 2011.
1st of all it came after 15 long days of waiting.
and when it finally arrived the battery was non functional. DOA
(that might be a one time thing)
But what's really surprising is the weight. As someone mentioned before; if the battery is more powerful it should be heavier. So, a 2300mAh should have more li-ion and should be quite a bit heavier then 1520mAh Stock. right?
(someone correct me if I'm wrong)
well this battery doesn't even weigh as much as the stock.
my conclusion: FAKE FAKE FAKE!!!
I just filed a PayPal claim to get a full refund.
Don't be sucked into buying this battery!
Guys, sorry to resurrect this thread but I've just got one of these with the Sensation I've just bought.
It weighs 34g exactly the same as the Anker I've got. Bot tried the Anker yet so can't compare how they both perform.
1gram battery ≈ 47mAh
I have 5 batteries.
Motorola BK60 930mAh Weight - 20g.
Motorola BC50 750mAh Weight - 16g.
Sony Ericsson BST-33 950mAh Weight - 20g.
Samsung sgh x160 800mAh Weight - 17g.
HTC Desire HD 1230mAh Weight - 26g.
930/20=46,5
750/16=46,8
950/20=47,5
800/17=47,0
1230/26=47,3

Best aftermarket battery?

Hello
Im going to put a larger capacity battery in my Desire Z and I wanted some recommendations. Also, normal sizes (as in demensions); None that come with a additional cover to compensate for the normal size this making the phone bigger.

Hi,
I'll also went with the Anker. 2 Days without charging even when using custom roms... Definetely a good choice for this Price!
riahc3, if you ask for advice, don't argue about there being higher capacity batteries, if you want the mugen go get it, but if you asked advice in the first place then don't get annoyed when people don't give you the answer you want to hear. Sorry, that's just the way I see it.
If you're after numbers rather than advice, take both. Look at my screenies, yeah I know I'm a light user, under clocked and had a sneaky charge in between but this was on CM10.1 build 15 which supposedly has battery problems, and as you can see I listened to music for a couple of hours as well. Also everyone else here has gotten at least 2 days between charge with Ankers.

I am also thinking about buying a new battery but I think that it doesn't matter how much mAh of the battery has. I think that real question is how will be after 6 months of usage. Most of these aftermarket batteries are start good but after few weeks or months they become useless. So we need real user feedback. Is there anyone who uses any of the aftermarket battery more than few months?
I've started to use JellyBaby v1.5 ROM and I've decided to buy new battery instead of new device.

I don't know about battery life of iPhone 5, S3, Note2, etc but I think that under normal circumstances battery life of our phones should be 2 days.
Do you use home-screen widget or lock screen widget? Does they have any effect on battery life?
aftermarket battery? you're better off getting a oem, a lot of aftermarkets don't live up to the levels they advertise.
I recommend the evo 4g design battery, it fits perfect in our devices at a whopping 1520 mah compared to stock's 1300mah

Anker Battery Screwover?!!

Hey,
a few months back i brought a Anker 1900mAh battery from ebay from a dealer in the US (I am in India)
It cost about 35$...but I wasnt getting as much battery life as expected..
Then couple of days ago i tried Du battery saver, and it showed my battery capacity on full charge as 1500 mAh only....should be 1900
this is the ebay listing for the battery
http://www.ebay.in/itm/Anker-Extend...ries&hash=item43b9b11e0b&_uhb=1#ht_1725wt_922
and the play store app Du battery saver
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5kaWFueGlub3MuZHhicyJd
Can someone please try their Anker battery on Sensation (not XE) with Du battery saver and tell me what the shown capacity is...
I intend to go after this ebay seller if he has screwed me over
Thanks,
Photo of battery attached
Maybe its an fake one but the seller has 92.6% positive feedback on ebay so i doubt he is fake.
There is a mini chance it is misfabricated like damage to the cells, do you still have the warranty card so you can send it back?
You can try to charge it for a day
Btw 35$ for 1 anker battery is way too high

The problem is neither with the du battery saver app nor the anker battery. The mah of battery is hard coded unto kernel. So what ever battery you are going to use it shows 1520. Also the reason why battery will stay at 100% for long time during discharge. Early attempts in changing the hardcoded value in kernel was made.. But they caused bootloop so dev(s) abandoned it. Anyways sorry to blew the whistle but anker batteries turned out to have 1750mah instead of 1900 mah. But still people use it as it's better than stock

I don't know if it isn't 1900mah, but I know that it lasts a lot more than many users with stock battery. Mine's already 7 months old and I think it's a bit worse than when I bought it. But in my first cycle of ViperS 3.1.0 rom it lasted 1 day and 5 hours screen time.

An app cant tell you the capacity of your battery, that's not how a battery works. if you really wanna know the exact capacity, you'll have to do it a different way:
http://denishennessy.com/2012/04/08/measuring-battery-capacity-with-an-arduino/
someone did a similar test (but without arduino, he did it "manual" with multimeters and some other tools) with different smartphone-batteries but i cant find the link....

Droid maxx battery problem

hey there!
the title is right! i have a serious problem with my maxx's battery.
i searched in xda forum but i couldn't catch any same results. first i should tell u that i'm not living in U.S so I'm not using 4g LTE...
my droid maxx battery is draining really fast. it can't stand more than a single day of normal usage, the same results of the ultra. I'm not using any mobile networks,I'm just using wi-fi for internet connections. but the result on battery monitoring says that the screen is draining battery, which i dont use it really much! in the battery section in setting, screen used about 46%!!! for example i just unlocked the phone for checking it's battery,2 times in just 30 minutes, and each time the screen went on,the battery percentage got down by 1%. I was using a droid maxx HD before, its battery could run for more than 3 days for me on a normal usage! but my maxx barely goes more than a single day. what can i do? change battery? or any changing in software?
i'm on 4.4 android,not rooted.
i should add that it's about 17 hours which i'm on safe mode,in this 13 hours i was sleeping about 9 hours.and when i started on safe mode it had 62% of battery. now it's 42%!!!!!
sorry for bad english,

I wouldn't open the phone up to check. if the phone has a removable back on it that you can take off to look and see if the manufacturer has put their name on it. Otherwise, there isn't a good way to check I guess. Sorry
is there any software which can check this out?
Well, you can buy a new battery on ebay, that's what I'm going to do, I'm using an Ultra battery for now, the XT1080M batteries are between 30-35 on ebay, and I consider it very cheap for the capacity.

you know,it's a good choice, but if i buy a battery,i have to change it by myself...so i should open the back of the phone by myself...and as u can see i live in iran,it takes about a month to recive the battery. so if i have to order a new battery, I have to make sure about the battery..any ideas for knowing the originality of battery by any software?

Not that I am aware of. You would have to buy a new battery and see if it helps. I suggest a Mugen battery. Have a great weekend!
battery is original
Well, they said that the way to calibrate the battery is use it until is depleted, then... when its off connect it to the wall charger and don't turn the phone on until the battery icon marks 100%, turn it on and it is supposed to be calibrated, or I don't know...
For the battery swapping, you need the Motorola EU40 battery, thats the MAXX one, a Torx 3 screwdriver, a Torx 5 screwdriver and a plastic prying tool... you can search in Google on how to open the Droid Ultra/Maxx and it's easy, if you have the correct screwdrivers of couser... Good Luck!

It's fine, just drain until it ships off by itself. Plug it in and charge to 100% with the phone off the whole time. . I do this once a month to Calibrate the battery and it helps. Never had a problem
