A better way to interact with your phone - Samsung Galaxy S8 (with T-Mobile/Sprint patch).
This app requires a Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ and will not work on any other device. Custom Bixby Button works with the T-Mobile/Sprint June security patch.
Custom Bixby Button teaches Bixby a lesson.
Custom Bixby Button makes your phone more helpful – assisting in completing tasks with for example Google Assistant, you are telling your S8 what it should be looking at.
Just push the Custom Bixby Button.
Custom Bixby Button understands more
With Custom Bixby Button, getting things done has never been so full of choices.
Custom Bixby Button interacts with your phone’s apps and shortcuts.
Plus, you can talk with Google Assistant because Custom Bixby Button understands you better.

Permissions
Bind Accessibility Service: This permission is required for the Accessibility Service. This is required to listen when the Bixby application comes to the foreground and to execute some actions. This app will not do anything without an enabled Accessibility Service. Please disable any other Bixby button applications' Accessibility Services before using Custom Bixby Button.
Do not disturb: This permission is required to change the ringer mode. This is an optional permission and the app will ask for it when required.
Notes
Custom Bixby Button was developed to work with the April update. It requires no root.
If Bixby button doesn't open when you press the button, press the button very quickly. This is probably an issue in the firmware and is not related to Custom Bixby Button.
Remember to disable other Bixby button apps before using Custom Bixby Button
This app uses an Accessibility Service to detect when the Bixby app comes to the foreground. This method should not have lag when you scroll because the service is limited to the Bixby app only. If you still have lag it is probably caused by another Accessibility Service.

Expanded desktop would be nice.
App seems to work great. Thank you. My only complaint is that it forces you to disable secure startup if you are using it. I would prefer to use secure startup but I'm willing to give it up to remap the Bixby button.
Just tried, it does work but on my phone I see Bixby starting and then after half a second it moves to the selected command from the app. Still better than Bixby
Thanks op!

You can re-enable secure startup again after you enabled the Accessibility Service. I'll put this in the help section in a future update.

These are the packages you can disable and still run this app. At minimum it needs Bixby and Hello Bixby enabled.

It says that custom Bixby will be turned off when I try to reenable secure startup.
It only works if I don't disable bixby. So bixby pops up first then voice assistant. Tmobile s8 with april update.

Yes, Custom Bixby Button will not work until you enter your pin/password. Just ignore the dialogue, it will work after you enter your pin/password to decrypt.

What do you mean with "disable bixby"?
Custom Bixby Button just got an update in the beta channel. This update improves the speed and Bixby is no longer visible. Also there is a new "dialer" action. Feedback is appreciated!

I use your app to turn my phone quickly into silent mode. But it doesn't work well when the phone is locked. Bixby launch and the screen stay awake on the bixby page. :/

Hello,
Thanks, it will be a great feature.
Otherwise, it is possible to have an option to toggle ringer mode only between vibrate and normal ? (no silent)
Some other bixby applications offer this option but I prefer yours (more fast).
Thanks a lot
Beautiful app, judging by the screenshots in the OP. I definitely appreciate the detail/tidiness in the GUI. Could you perhaps add a Fullscreen app mode/Immersive mode option like in BxActions. If this indeed is possible in a future iteration id install this in a heartbeat.
Regards,
The latest update for T-Mobile and Sprint broke all Bixby remapping apps. Currently searching for another workaround. If you have this new update, and would like to help, please let me know.
EDIT:
Almost done with a new version. New version will be released within a few hours.
Introducing Custom Bixby Button (2.0): Custom Bixby Button teaches Bixby another lesson.
• T-Mobile / Sprint (US) June security patch compatibility (select "Polling method" in settings);
• Choose from multiple options to say good-bye to Bixby - Custom Bixby will handle the rest.
• Custom Bixby Button has smooth scrolling (no lag) - Really;
• Premium option if you happen to dislike ads;
• Available in Arabic, Dutch, English, German, Hebrew, Russian and will expand to more languages over time.
Any idea how start normaly app bixby when once push button, but when push twice or long press togle do not disturb mode .

All features of the app are available for free, without any ads. (The in-app purchase inside the app will not work as the app has been removed from play store)
Please do not mirror without permission. Link to this thread or play store page if you want to share this app elsewhere. So that users will know where to check for updates and get support from.
Please note: Hopefully it won't come to this, but just in case, to uninstall the app, you'll have to deactivate device admin permission first (Settings -> Security -> Device Admin -> Easy Lock).[/SIZE]

Permissions explained
Admin permission is required to turn of the screen and put the phone to sleep
Lollipop smart lock is not supported by Device Admin. It's an Android system limitation. However, smart lock is supported by Easy Lock if you have root access. If you see a prompt for root access, this is what that's for.
Draw over other apps permission is required to detect double taps.
App Usage Statistics (in Lollipop and above) is required if you enable the option 'Try to avoid soft key presses'. This permission will be requested only if you enable this option.

Update v1.1

Minor bug fixes
Update is currently rolling out in Google Play.
Update to Easy Lock
v1.3
- Fixed a bug which causes the app to request admin permissions even when it was already granted.
Update is available in Google Play Store.
I had added an option to enable double-tap anywhere to lock the screen. I'm sure it'll be a nuisance for most people, since it'll get activated while typing, double tap to zoom photos etc, but there were some requests for it. However, that update was rejected by Play Store. Hence I've disabled that feature in the play store version of the app. If anyone is interested in the above mentioned feature, I can upload an apk having double tap anywhere to lock functionality.

Amazing work!
I've traditionally always rooted my android devices, but with marshmallow I'm trying to keep them stock for the security/stability benefits. My new Huawei Honor 8 didn't have a double tap to sleep feature built in, and with no root I couldn't use gravitybox to get it. I also couldn't find anything satisfactory in the app store, as I just wanted something that would make the device sleep, but not wake up (my phone wakes up by itself as soon as you touch the fingerprint scanner). The V1.2 of this app works perfectly! I lowered the double tap to 150ms, which seems to be about as fast as I can comfortably double tap the status bar/nav bar, but is faster than I would normally mash the back button, removing the need for ignoring the nav buttons. Plus it seems to take no more than 40mb of ram, with it averaging more about 25mb, which is great. Luckily for me, Huawei's EMUI implementation of android prevents your app from interfering with the fingerprint scanner, even without root. I tested your app on my galaxy tab s2 (also running android 6.0.1) and as expected, using it to sleep the device interfered with the fingerprint scanner, but not so on this great little Huawei device (I just had it on my tablet for testing, it already turns itself on/off with its flip cover). I can understand why Google removed it from the play store (at anything over 250ms it's easily to accidentally trigger with the back button) but I'm glad I found it. I've never actually had a button wear out or break on me because I upgrade phones too often, but it still feels nice to be able to turn my phone on and off without any buttons. Great work!
Edit: it's really too bad that the donate button doesn't work. Do you have any other apps in the play store that I could buy/donate to support you?
Wow, thanks for the app! Working great on my S7 edge (unrooted).
Just tried it on my pixel xl works great but the only gripe I have is that when it locks the phone I can't use my fingerprint reader to open it after which is making me not use it anymore because it's so much faster to use the fingerprint scanner. If that's fixed I'll definitely be using it.
Thanks

@aravindsagar Hi, I have the same problem on my Z5 Compact. When I double tap the status bar, the phone locks.
But when I wake it up, if I use my fingerprint to unlock, I also have my patern (or pin, or password, whatever security is set) → Double security instead of one.
I only encounter this issue while using your app. If Easy Lock is disabled, I can unlock my phone just with my fingerprint.
Is their a way to fix this issue? (or an alternative to double tap status bar to lock?)
Thanks

same problem, any way to fix this issue?
Bump on this. Love it but need to be able to unlock with fingerprint sensor.
Other apps get around this by simply turning the screen off. Works great with amoled. Not sure how easy that is to implement.
I would donate for this if it would implement the method to lock the screen with root instead of using Admin (so, as mentioned in previous posts above, I could use the fingerprint reader to unlock afterwards). The shell command "input keyevent 26" does this as long as it's done with superuser access. I have a QuickTile through the Automate script app do exactly that currently, but I'd prefer to be able to double-tap the status bar instead of using a prime Quick Tile space.
This is horrible and will never replace the custom ROM feature. I can't use my fingerprint and I can't even enter my password without it locking again. It also locks when I double tap a softkey (even with the option to prevent against it).
If use device administrator, open lock cant using fingerprint, btw good app.. i search tap to sleep app that can using fingerprint to wake/unlock..
Arrow launcher has this. Always work.
Trying the Lawnchair (Pixel) launcher which lacks this feature. Only works on status bar. Users of this launcher want this!
(All permissions set up. MIUI device.)
Just a note, Arrow launcher has double tap anywhere to sleep, not double tap status bar, and it also has to be set to be a device Admin, so again the fingerprint reader is rendered useless. Not knocking Arrow Launcher, just wanted to specify in case others with fingerprint readers are tempted to try it for this purpose.
Is any option double tap to wake the device ?
Well Korea got another firmware update this morning. The update never gave details but here is what I've found so far:
In the settings under Device, there is now an "Auto open apps" option. Basically when you scroll through your apps list, whatever app you stop on will automatically open.
Also in the settings under "connections" there's an alert option now to be notified via vibration when disconnected from your phone.
Under the display setting there's now a screen timeout option. 15 secs, 30 secs, 1 min, or 5 minutes.
Also some bloatware was added. Apps added were a world clock, starbucks, a korean navigation app, and the flipboard news briefing app. There's also a few watchfaces added, nothing new, same ones shown at the initial unveiling. All of them can be uninstalled thankfully.
There's a notification indicator option now also in display. It will make a little orange circle appear on your watchface until you've viewed the notification. Only works if you don't have notifications set to automatically turn on your screen in the Gear Android app.
When reading the text of a notification, it will make the font larger if you double tap the screen.
Cosmetic differences:
now says "add widget" under the + symbol when you scroll all the way right.
On a notification, when you swipe up to dismiss, it now shows a trash can.
For a notification reply, the emoji symbol has been replaced with a more traditional circle happy face.
When you scroll right on the watchfaces menu there's an option to "Add template" now. It then lets you choose from the watchfaces that can be stylized and make a new face from them.

I noticed small cosmetic changes inside the S-health app, but nothing else beyond that. I've found nothing related to sleep monitoring.
Also checked yesterday to see if a reminder can be set using S-Voice, and that is also still broken.
I can't believe they didn't map the top button to toggle most recent app... it's so annoying having to go back to the app screen to get to your music app while running... the button is basically wasted without a double click or long press option.
I glad they brought back the vibrate when disconnected function.

In SHealth I'm able to swipe/twist to the right and get to the music controller, which then returns to SHealth when I press the back button.
Coming from Pebble I expected apps to be persistent and not just to have the watch exit home to the watchface everytime the display times out. It's really nice to have a persistent app for a music player. I could adjust the track or volume without looking at my wrist. And it's also greatly needed for the stopwatch. A settings option for persistent apps would be great.
My Gear app updated this morning, I see no change in the watch. The app on the phone has a whole new layout, but nothing has changed on the watch. Still shows the same J3 software version. I rebooted the watch and nothing. Do I have to reboot my phone? I hate to try this as it always breaks my weather app and I have to totally uninstall all gear apps on the phone and factory reset the watch to get it working again.

I agree there should be a long press top button feature. The way I deal with this problem is I set long press home to the music player. Then to access apps you press home then press home again.

My Gear Fit, which isn't actually Tizen, but resembles it a bit, has an option for what you want to do after timeout - return to watch face, or remain on last app. Very handy, and Samsung could certainly add this option, since they already know how it works.

Powy
Powy gives you access to handy shortcuts through the power button. To trigger a shortcut you simply have to press the power button N times (you define how many times) and then the shortcut is triggered.
Powy provides the following shortcuts that you can use:
Hear the current time
Turn on or off your flashlight / torch / LED
Open camera app
Record audio
All of the shortcuts listed above work even if screen is off and/or device is locked. Does not have to be open or in recent apps to work.
You can enable only the shortcuts you want to be usable. You can configure shortcuts key combinations per shortcut. And you can start or stop Powy at any time.
Download
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danilomendes.powy
How to use?
Start Powy by pressing the button in the main screen of the app. Now to trigger the shortcut you want simply press the number of times configured in that shortcut (listed in the main screen).
Story behind Powy
Initially I've developed Powy only for my own needs, the initial purpose of Powy was to simply tell me the current time when I was using headphones, because I use headphones a lot and I'm kind of obsessed with time and I hated to have to take my phone out of my pocket to see what time it was. I developed a quick draft for myself and then now I figured that the app might be helpful to other people.
How it works - Technical description
Since we cannot actually listen to power button key events on background, Powy actually listens to screen on/off events and then after 0.714 seconds, after the last pressed key (maximum of 1.5 seconds), Powy sees if the total number of screen on and off's matches a shortcut and triggers it.
Permissions
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED - For the app to start running upon boot. This can be turned of whether or not you have Android 6+. You can turn it off on the Preferences section within the app.
CAMERA - *Only for Android versions below 6* This is simply used to use the flashlight.
WAKE_LOCK - Only used for the camera shortcut when it's triggered with the screen off. Powy does not keeps the wake lock for more than 100 ms after the camera shortcut is triggered.
FLASHLIGHT - For the flashlight.
RECORD_AUDIO - To record audio only when the record audio shortcut is triggered.
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - Powy only uses this to write the recorded audio to the sdcard.
VIBRATE - Only to vibrate when record audio is triggered.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE & INTERNET - These two permissions are used by admob.
Try it and tell me what you think
I'm available to respond through this forum or through here.

Hi thank you for replying.
I wrote the incorrect value, the threshold is actually 0.714 seconds. But in any case, try not to press the power button too quickly.
I think if it recognizes two screen on/off's it means it can capture more than that, meaning that the threshold is probably enough, but maybe the maximum time of 1.5 seconds it has to joins presses might not be sufficient.
But try not to press the power button too quickly and tell me how it goes.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried both slow and fast power button presses, as well as waiting for the screen to turn off before initiating more presses. Like I said, "say the time" does work, so I know what the timing is supposed to be like.
@danilo.mendes Cool idea bro..
I guess the reason why users are facing problems is that the time taken to receive consecutive SCREEN_ON/OFF broadcasts vary for different devices..
Instead of hardcoding the threshold value, you can get the data from user itself..
While opening the app for first time, you can ask the users to consecutively press the power button for N times for calibration purpose (N is your wish).
While the user is doing that, you may record (in your Service) the threshold timings between the SCREEN_ON/OFF broadcasts and compute the average for N trials.
And finally set that as threshold value.
That way, you may get the app working for all devices..
Hope my words are clear

Hi, Yeah it seems like that's right. That's a really cool suggestion, thank you I'm going to use a mix of your suggestion, because I want to avoid complicating the setup for the first time users. So instead of asking the user, I'm thinking about calculating the threshold automatically for the first time then use those values by default. And also adding a preference for the user to configure the threshold and the max time.
I'll update the apk version asap with this changes. Again, thank you

Hi both, Thank you for the feedback Like GokulNC said, some devices seem to have more different times of screen off/on events than I expected. For this reason I'll develop some changes to make this more flexible and hopefully this will fix your issues. This will be in the next release that I'll release very soon.

Hi everyone,
Powy 1.0.2 released
Added:
Now the threshold and max time of key presses and shortcuts are configurable
Fixed crash caused by no TTS engine in some ROMs (e.g.: LG G5)
Added method to automatically find best threshold and max time when you use the first shortcut (only on clean installs)
Get it at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danilomendes.powy
So now, hopefully, all issues should be resolved and the app becomes more flexible because you can configure the settings for each device and to your needs.
Tell me what you think about this new release and rate as you think it's fit
Thank you all for the feedback it was really helpful.

Hi guys,
Just wanted you to know that Powy now allows you to use Tasker Tasks through the power button. This is now available on version 1.1.0. I think that now by using Powy combined with Tasker you have a lot of flexibility customizing shortcuts on your power button.
For example, now you can add a task on Tasker that turns WiFi on/off and then fire it using your power button through Powy.
Give it a try and tell me what you think

XDA-Developers: Customize the Google Pixel 2’s Active Edge to do any action with Edge Sense Plus [XDA Spotlight]
What is Edge Sense Plus?
Edge Sense Plus was initially just meant for the HTC U series. It let's you customize the squeeze action and adds some more squeeze gestures and features.
But with the Pixel2 also coming with a squeezable frame I had the goal to make it compatible with it too.
..and after a couple of days debugging with @k4r70ng (I don't own the device, big thanks to him, was a great help) we are here now!
Requirements
You have to be on Oreo 8.1 or Android P.
You need to run a STOCK based ROM, because Active Edge is broken on AOSP roms.
You need to be rooted with magisk to use it.
Install the Active Edge System Mod Magisk Module from the MagiskManager Repo and the EdgeSensePlus from the playstore and you are ready to go!
Telegram Group
Join Telegram Edge Sense Plus Group
How does it work
To make it working on the Pixel2 I had to modify the SystemUIGoogle.apk that runs the ElmyraService (Service that processes the squeeze gestures).
I intercept the events and pass them to the EdgeSensePlus Application that starts the appropriate action then that you selected.
Some more adjustments were made, so the squeezing also works when you are in immersive mode, camera or when Google Assistant is deactivated/uninstalled.
What can it do?
Custom actions:
Currently you can choose from over different actions
Quickly Start camera - Also when screen is off and locked
Per App Action - Execute different squeeze actions depending in what app you are!
Sidebar
Gesture Panel - Draw custom gestures to start different actions
Custom App
Shortcuts - e.g. to make direct calls, start tasker tasks and more!

Per app actions:
With the per app action, you can define different squeeze actions per app. So the chosen action will be executed dependent in what app you are currently are.
Double Squeeze: (Premium)
If you often accidentally trigger a short squeeze, that won't happen anymore if you map your desired action to the double squeeze gesture.
You can define a double squeeze interval, to ensure you are quick enough to trigger it every time.
Long Squeeze:
Missed a long squeeze action on your Pixel? Edge Sense Plus has it!
G-Sensor usage: (Premium)
If enabled, will be able to execute different actions depending on the current position of your device, whether it is flat or upright in your hand.
That way you can have six different squeeze gestures: short, long, doublepress in flat or upright device position.
Media control:
The media control will override your set squeeze actions while media is playing so you can control your media.
That includes play/pause, increase/decrease volume and skip to next and previous track.
Squeeze sounds:
Ever thought it would be funny if a squeeze of your Pixel2 would make a sound, if it is a *click*, *oink* , *fart* or whatever you think of?
You can use any .mp3 file to make that happen!
Sidebar:
The Sidebar has 4 different panels, Applications, Shortcuts, Recent Apps (Premium), Quicksettings (Premium).
Panel colors are customizable
Instructions
You must be on at least Oreo 8.1 to to be able to use it. Root with Magisk is required since the magisk module is mandatory!
It is recommended to have a working TWRP backup in case something goes wrong. Check the FAQ for help too.
Like always: Flash on your own risk. I'm not responsible for any damaga to your device
Flash the Magisk Module either in Magisk Manager or TWRP
Install Edge Sense Plus
Enjoy.
Downloads
Now also available via the MagiskManager Repo:
I recommend to install and update the Magisk Module directly via the MagiskManager repository directly in the MagiskManager app.
All releases will be also available on the GitHub repository
Edge Sense Plus:
Ok lol I am blind, thanks for app!
This looks great and more powerful than other options to intercept the squeeze gesture. Thanks for taking the time to port it!
Would it be possible to provide a module download with an Md5? I downloaded and flashed the module, wound up in a bootloop and had to restore a backup. I'd like to try this, but really want to be careful. Thanks
FAQ
Q: Will it also work on the Pixel2 XL?
A: No, it will bootloop your device. There is a separate thread on the Pixel2 XL forum.
Q: My device bootloops after flashing the magisk module.
A: Ensure you are on the latest Pixel2 OTA. To get out of the bootloop, go to the magisk thread and install the magisk uninstaller and then reinstall magisk again.
Q: The magisk module zip is greyed out when I try to install it.
A: I have no explanation why it happens for some. Install a FileManager like SolidExplorer or FX File Explorer, then Select that File Browser in the System File Explorer to select the path
Thanks. Yeah Pixel 2 on the latest January update with TWRP and Magisk 15.2.
Yep it was a bad download. Thanks for the Md5. I'm all set now :good:

Aware of that. Will look into this today. Does not happen on my U11... so debugging will take a bit longer.
Are there any plans to distribute the app through the Play Store? And is it normal for the app to constantly ask me to upgrade to premium? By constantly, I literally mean constantly. It seems to be tied to scrolling down the settings page, and it pops up 2-3 times before I reach the bottom.
Also, will squeezing still silence an incoming call? Are there any settings that might prevent the squeeze from silencing an incoming call?

Currently the app is just visibible for HTC U Devices.
Im afraid of bad ratings from pixel users, since it does just work with root. On the U11 it works without.
Will try improve the scrolling issue.
I just override the google assistant action. So the other native squeeze actions should still work.

Much appreciated (-:
I've noticed that pocket detection makes active edge misbehave. I don't know if this is a known issue, but I thought I'd share my experience.
The other thing I thought was an issue was with setting a shortcut to a Tasker task. For anyone who may not understand how it works, you have to open Tasker and choose "exit" from the menu at the top right of the app before you can set the task shortcut in Edge Sense Plus.

as we stated in OP, for overriding volume keys, we have to write custom accessibility service and accessibility service going to be deprecated in future version of Android. and it also gives problem in some devices, hence we have added Gesture option so Knob Volume slider is just a one swipe away.

Thank you for confirmation, about changing volume, you have to use knob, overriding volume keys and changing volume on press gives trouble and flickers hence we left it to user to change it once user sees knob window.

I got the app off the play store today, and installed it on my OnePlus 5 running Oxygen OS 9.0.10 . Love the concept, and the execution, but after about 30 minutes, it would randomly wake my screen from a sleep state. At first, I though it might be something else, so I shut off my display, but again about 30 minutes later, my screen was back on. That has NEVER happened before. So, I uninstalled your program almost 2 hours ago, and my phone has not turned it's self back on since.
Any idea what could be causing your app to turn on my display? I'd really like to use it!

please update once you see version 1.12
the issue is fixed. we were checking and creating gesture control for every 2 hour interval, as some android system kills the app. but now we removed that logic, the interval is now set to a day, that is 24 hrs and on phone restart.
