Samsung keyboard with google voice input - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I like the Samsung keyboard but I don't like Samsung voice input. I changed it to google voice input but after a few minutes it reverts back to Samsung voice input . Has any been able to use Samsung keyboard with google voice input successfully?

I am following as I too have the same problem!

I went into keyboard settings (Language and Input) and under 'On-screen keyboard' there is a rocker switch for Sammy and Google voice input. Google on, Sammy off and the Samsung keyboard works. However, if you have been mucking with Bixby settings like me, it hoses up the 'ok google' voice detection when locked. So after testing a few minutes (Google stuck) i returned it back to Sammy (I use Google keyboard anyway). I like Samsungs keyboard, but since G Board added a number row option, I've been happy.
Anywho, is this the way you had changed the google voice to default with Samsung or some other way?

Is that the paid Package Disabler? Can you please link to the play store? Probably worth paying if you can disable all that.

Definitely worth it
Check out "Package Disabler Pro (Samsung)"

Samething with me, the phone kept reverting to the samsung voice even after I choose google voice.
I did figure this out a few days ago. You have to DISABLE the Samsung Voice in the Apps.
Settings, Apps, AppManager, Samsung Voice Input, DISABLE
Booya!!

Ditto. I've had the same issue and followed the same steps before checking in here.
I prefer the Samsung keyboard by quite a bit because I have found that, at least historically, its Swype and its prediction is substantially better than anyone else’s. Similarly Google’s voice recognition, at least for me, has been hugely better than everyone else’s. The Samsung keyboard/Google voice typing combo is one reason why I’ve chosen Samsung devices over everyone else. The other was systemless root, which Samsung has now chunked on our S8/S8+ devices -- and that goes to the follow-up problem, I can’t disable the Samsung voice input.
BTW - “Just use Google keyboard instead,” is not an answer at all. If it were, the OP, 3dmurphybeds, and I would not be on here posting. For all the other posts, I’m grateful for the suggestions.

I’m not sure if I just haven’t had sufficient coffee today, but the option to disable Samsung voice input is greyed out, so I can’t disable it.
BTW - I was excited about djxn40’s suggestion about Package Disabler (both for this issue and in general). But based on the most recent reviews, all of which look like they're very fresh and much after the OP, it looks like Samsung broke the application (I’m guessing some time in the past month).
Some have suggested BK Package Disabler. But I’m not sure that Samsung didn’t break it too. If anyone can confirm that it (or some other application) works on the unrooted US version of the S8/S8+ running the most recent OTA (G955USQU1AQGL), that would be awesome.

Does anyone know why there is no predictive text in any of the Google apps (including Play store/music/etc, Chrome, etc.)? Samsung is the only keyboard installed (other than voice typing), yet the OSK clearly is NOT Samsung (layout is different, etc.). It seems that Google and Samsung are spending so much time lifting their legs on each other that things that used to be selling points are so broken that it makes one want to run screaming...

It seems there are 2 Samsung Voice input: One for Bixby and one for keyboard (that one has a microphone symbol).
At first it was only showing the Bixby one and I could not disable it. Then I selected Samsung Voice for the keyboard, and it showed on the app list. I was able to disable it.
After a reset, Samsung Voice for keyboard even does not show in the voice input selection list and Google Voice is set per default.
Thanks to dsa44!

I just chatted with Samsung they took control of my phone through Samsung tutor and he downloaded the Google keyboard and in there you can change the voice to Google while keeping Samsung keyboard

Fixed (Samsung Galaxy edge s9)
Open settings > general management > language and input > on screen keyboard > manage keyboards > turn OFF Samsung voice input FIXED
I too dislike Bixby! She's um retarded! Lol
This settings change I explained above allows google voice no longer allowing Bixby!

Can I uninstall gboard after I make this change? I got it to work! I turned off Samsung voice input under language settings on default keyboard says manage keyboards and you turn Samsung voice input keyboard off. Then I downloaded gboard which enabled the Google voice input. I also kept Google voice input as the keyboard on under manage keyboards. And now when I push the voice button it uses Google! In the Samsung keyboard. However I don't want to keep keyboard on my phone because it takes up memory battery and Storage. I wonder if there's a way to put it to sleep well Google voice button still work? Or maybe if I uninstall it will it still work?

Surely there's a solution

I've searched here, google, etc... and the solution still escapes me
How in the world do I launch Google voice search (rather than S Voice) via bluetooth when the phone is locked? This is for bluetooth dialing and navigating (push and hold BT headset call button, say "CALL ......" or "NAVIGATE TO ......."
I don't want to flash a new ROM for this, but I'm willing to consider it IF:
- Above function works
- GPS locks are just as fast as stock
- Stability is top notch
- Battery life is as good or better than stock
- UI must be smooth
Stock ROM is great!!! I'd hate to deviate, but I hate even more not being able to use the BT dialing (S Voice SUCKS and rarely works!!!)
I have to have my phone locked (exchange server rules for my employer email)... it's a good policy anyway.
I am currently Stock Rooted, bootloader locked (I can unlock if necessary)
I've seen suggestions to use the Bluetotth launcher app, which works, but not when phone is locked.
The stock ICS has this feature. I hate the Samsung forced S Voice without giving us the alternative to go back to the google apps (which is MUCH better).
I have no clue. How about random ideas?
Try clearing defaults for S Voice and Google Search in the App Manager
Check the settings in both apps (I'm fairly sure I saw an option regarding launching S Voice from the Home button in it's settings)
Try disabling/uninstalling S Voice

I've frozen S Voice with Titanium Backup. All that did was completely remove any ability for voice dialing through bluetooth.
The settings you refered to is a good suggestion, but only disables the home button (pressing it twice) from launching S Voice
Google Voice Search has no usable settings and I'm unable to use it as a default rather than S Voice
Have you tried to disable S voice from the applications settings menu? Certain launchers will allow to to assign actions to buttons. Not sure if BT is included.
And don't call me Shirley.

Freezing in titanium is the same as disabling in the applications menu.
I feel like i read somewhere that synergyROM had this feature of google now replacing s-voice when you froze it. Ill try to find what im talking about for you. Thats the only solution i can think of.

Samsung Text To Speech - Accessibilty Bug workaround

I installed LockerPro Lockscreen and I got the bug where the phone would start the text to speech engine would activate if I enabled the LockerPro Accessibility service, the workarounds given say you have to disable Samsungs Text to Speech service for this to stop. I couldn't do this on the this S4 the disable button was grayed out.
To get workaround this I did the following steps.
Make sure phone is rooted
Use system app mover to make Samsung Text to Speech engine a user application.
Make Google Text to Speech Engine the default (Settings -> My Device -> Accessibility -> Text-to-Speech Options)
Then disable Google Text to Speech Engine (Settings -> More -> Application Manager -> All -> Google Text-to-speech Engine)
This fixed the problem for me, and driving mode still works fine.
Has anyone found a way around this without rooting the phone?!?!? I too am trying to use LockerPro but the Samsung TTS 'Disable' option is greyed out. Now all my actions in default Samsung apps give me voice prompts. I am not comfortable rooting the phone yet so I'm hoping there is another option to enable the Disable button! Thanks.

I accomplished effectively the same thing by freezing both Samsung and Google text-to-speech in Titanium Pro.
Just go to Google play store and install Google text to speech classic then enable it that will cancel or the speech voice

Am trying to disable the Samsung TTS but it also greyed out on my device
Don't want to root at this stage and my phone seems to have the up to date firmware version already
It is running 4.2.2. with Kernel 3.4.0-5262204
Any suggestions how I can disable this Samsung TTS without rooting?
Cheers

thank you, you solved my problem. No longer bear the error message from Samsung Text to Speech on my galaxy s4. Simple solution, obvious, but I had not thought of and works very well.
A little more patience my friends, once Android 4.3 arrives on your device all your problems will go away.

Im on 4.3, same issue, problem is not solved. Note 3 N9005. Notifyer+ cannot be loaded without Samsung TTS kicking in. Driving me insane everytime the browser loads with the freakish "Page loaded" voice message. Just switched to another browser and prob solved. Samsung doesnt seem to have been able to figure this one out even with 4.3. Now Kitkat should do the trick.

Samsung keyboard will not stay turned off under "set input methods"

Like a lot of people, I prefer the Google keyboard over the Samsung one. Annoyingly, an icon appears in the notification bar whenever the Google keyboard is summoned. One way to get rid of this icon is to disable all other keyboards under Language and input -> Default keyboard -> Set up input methods. Unfortunately I've noticed that the Samsung keyboard keeps turning back on all the time. Anyone else observed this behavior? Very annoying.
Yup, same thing here using SwiftKey. Dang Samsung keyboard keeps re-enabling itself making the input notification show up again everytime I'm typing.
Is there a way to fully disable Samsungs keyboard without root?
Verizon Galaxy S6 owner here and I thought I was the only one dealing with this. I use SwiftKey as my primary keyboard. Still haven't found a way myself to fully fix this issue
You can hide the app using debloat by gates junior
I found the solution in another thread. You have to install ADB on your computer and set the phone up for USB debugging, the you can hide the Samsung Keyboard. I'll find the thread and link it here.

Samsung keyboard keeps coming back after SwiftKey has been set as default keyboard
I know this is an old thread but I just got my Samsung Galaxy and was having the same problem.
The way I solved it was root my phone, which I would have done anyway, install SwiftKey, and System App Mover, and use System App Mover to move Samsung keyboard to a user app, because I didn't really want to delete it, then I moved SwiftKey to a system app, but the Samsung keyboard kept sending notifications "Samsung keyboard has stopped" and I couldn't stop it from doing that, so I just deleted Samsung keyboard, so now SwiftKey is the default keyboard, haven't had the problem since.
Sorry for the long paragraph, I suck at writing.

(Talk to text issue) Voice input keeps reverting to Samsung input.

Like the title says every time I change the voice input setting to Google only (turn off Samsung input) it reverts back after a while. Samsung input turns back on and overrides Google input. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, is there a solution to make the change permanent. Samsung voice to text is horrible.
Sent from my SM-G950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
If you're using the stock keyboard, it probably keeps turning Samsung Voice Input back on because it's the Samsung Keyboard. If you use a third-party keyboard like Swiftkey, it'll default to Google's voice typing, even if the Samsung Voice Input is enabled.

Question [Solved] Gboard assistant typing

Does anyone know a way to make Google assistant voice typing work?
I got stuck with gboard saying multilingual typing and no longer can enable assistant typing even though the options are turned on.
It keeps defaulting to regular voice typing. I don't want to wipe my phone just to get this stupid busted feature working. I had to do that last time this bug happened to me.
Edit: I just reset the cache and data in Google, Gboard, and set all Google voice and Google Assistant settings to one language. I also set my activity controls to one language as well. Anywhere a language was set on Google account side or within the phone settings seem to do the trick. Google makes this a insane setup to figure out.
