[APP] Bixby Remapper - Works even after Samsung's patches + Google Assistant Support! - Samsung Galaxy S8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Bixby Button Remapper is an app with a main focus around simplicity and performance. There are 2 different modes: "More Stable" mode, which is very carefully curated so as to not impede on device performance whatsoever, and "No Delay" mode which works like every other Bixby remapping app these days and uses more CPU power. Luckily, you have 2 options!

Bravo (sir)!
Thank you! I'm using it to open AutoVoice (maybe other AutoApps tools) which opens up the world to Assistant, Alexa, or Tasker. I'm sticking with double tap power for camera.
I got it through Play store to give you visible credit!
Thankfully the S8 is fast enough that you don't care that Bixby flashes before this kicks in.
Try this app, we need to support our devs!

Kick ass! Works great on my unlocked S8+! Though I haven't yet installed the ota update!

Great work! I'm keeping bixby assigned to the button but glad developers are finding ways to add user choice.
Bravo.

This app is great!
thank you

Works fine for me

Works well! but you have to have Bixby enabled (I disabled it with Package disabler pro) otherwise the button doesn't launch anything at all. Would be great if you was able to make the app function without the need of Bixby being present.

I second that, otherwise it's a good app.

i think this one world even better https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
But not on all firmwares. Works with mine though.

After T-Mobile update, this still works a treat! Great job and thank you.

The new ota breaks this app.

Has anyone tweeted the guy from Samsung yet letting him know they got pwned? Lol, maybe we should just keep it to ourselves... Excellent work on this!

Still works on my T-Mobile S8 after OTA update. Now if I could just figure out what I want to pen instead. Have it set to do nothing for now. Bixby was getting on my nerves, but I didn't want to completely disable it. I'll give Bixby another shot once they add the voice functionality, but don't know if I'll use the button for that.

would it help on the bixby screen i see ?
i mapped it to my messages and when i press the button you see it open the bixby screen for a seccond then it openeds messages , i have to option for shorter delay enabled as well, app working great but when i was using bixbye i didn't see bixby screen at all. so just wondering.

i still havent even been prompted for the update at this point. Nor have I even set up Bixy. For this app to work you're saying I need to go through the setup of bixby and basically turn it on?

Yeah, unfortunately at this time that's the only way for remapping to work. Sorry about that!

Update 1.04 - Apr 24
* This app now ONLY receives Accessibility Service events from the Bixby app. There should be no device performance decrease whatsoever by using this app.

I am not sure if this has been posted before, but I figured I would share what I have found!

How to enable Power Saver Mode on Verizon Wireless HTC One (M8)
* Download SqLite Editor from the Play store
* Open up the app
* Navigate to Settings Storage --> Settings.db --> secure
* Locate hide_ui_user_powersave and hide_ui_powersaver_connectivity
* These values right now should be “1”
* Long press on the field and change both to a value of “0”
* Back out of the app, reboot and enjoy!

Unfortunately, the US is bit abackwards compared to the rest of the world. The extreme power safer mode needs to be approved by US carriers before the most up to date version of the M8 software can be released in the US. Hopefully it will be approved soon, and be available via a software update. :fingers-crossed:

Can you find the hidden feature in stock messaging app that allows you to block people from texting you?
We have this feature in the stock phone app to block calls but was left out of the stock text messaging app. I went to the international M8 forum and they said they have it out of the box. I'm sureVerizon "Hide" this feature as well.

Does seem odd that Verizon basically told HTC, hey hide this feature even though it's already built into the old software we approved you having on this device for the USA launch. By the way also hide the block text messaging feature that's been built into your phones since Sense 4. WTF?!?

Works as said in OP. Now lets see if it actually saves some juice
Works fine for me. Nice find!
:good::good: Thanks a lot.. works beautifully!!
Now I'll see if we actually get some more battery life. which IMO is pretty decent as it is..
Does Power Saver underclock the proc?
Man this tweak works amazingly. 11 1/2 hrs and I'm at 58% I've been using Bluetooth all day and listening to music and streaming showbox here and there to watch some tosh.O and this makes a huge difference in battery then without it for me. Thanks for the tweak!
Could a similar method work with high performance mode?

WHY SHOULD YOU INSTALL THIS TORCH, AND NOT ALL THE OTHER ONES?
1- You give a touch of style to your device, with an INTUITIVE, ENJOYABLE and MINIMAL style.
2- It weighs less than 800kb.
3- It doesn’t need much resources, it probably works even on my washing machine.
4- It has the STROBE light with adjustable intervals.
5- It has the MORSE CODE with adjustable speed.
6- It has an intuitive way of choosing colors, that I call ColorShuffle.
7- Well, surely I did it so what are you waiting for?! TRY IT and you will NEVER go back!

[Under Development] Remap Bixby button even after the Samsung patch.

UPDATE: The Alpha version of the App is now available on this thread - https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/themes/app-bixbye-fast-bixby-button-remapper-t3594343
Hi Everyone! A developer here!
Congratulations on your S8/S8+.
As you might have heard already, Samsung is releasing an update to block existing ways to remap the Bixby button. Sooner or later all device will be patched. I might have a little tricky way to remap the Bixby button irrespective of the Samsung's update. It would be great if anybody has the time to volunteer to help me test this new App. I would like to essentially connect on some IM platform like Skype so that I can send bleeding edge builds to finalize the integration.
Those who are interested please PM me.

I would be willing to pay up to $5.00 for a Bixby app that while using all instances of Bixby could be disabled. I might just be anal but all these Bixby remap apps when you press the Bixby button, Bixby comes up for a second and that's 1 second too much for me.

Forget the old method. It won't work anymore.
A possible future root method is deleting Bixby apps by editing /system partition (or backing them for quick restore anytime) and placing a dummy app in its place. That dummy app can either do nothing, or be actual remapper. That would achieve the pre-update behavior, and open for even more hacking.

Thanks for the tip. This is still the old post-update method, but perfected very well, Bixby shows for fraction of second. My hat off to the developer. Still fraction of a second is a fraction of a second. A root method would not even have that.
Also dev may need to find way to defeat lockscreen since BixBye activating on lockscreen doesn't work well.

@ggrant3876, You would be glad to know that I just released a major update, BixBye is now the only App to perform actions without launching Bixby itself (invisible to your slow, naked eyes!)
You better be ready to pay up! .... just kidding Enjoy the App!
Hello Jagan,
I hold to my promise. You're getting there!
DISCLAIMER: The behavior below is on S8+ using stock firmware without the April patch that disables the remapping and required the new method.
New 2.0 is way faster but Hello Bixby still shows and stays there most of the times when the action is not Launch App.
But if the action is Launch App - I tried with Camera - the new app launches so fast that Hello Bixby has no chance to pop up. Weird, BixBye to Camera doesn't work. But Launch App > Camera works.
The problem with Hello Bixby remaining is that second press of Bixby button does nothing.
Also BixBye > Recents will auto-open the first app in Recents, not remain on Recents.

BixBye, lets you remap the Bixby button even after the Samsung patch, I have noticed more such Apps popping up. However, I have got some feedback that this one is a bit snappy. Let me know how is your experience.
As it goes without saying, the App is highly experimental and is in Alpha Stage, things may not work as you expect to. However, your feedback will definitely help me improve the App.
For this initial release there is some limited amount of options available, more will be added if the App works well for you guys.
Download from Google Play Store. (Please don't forget to leave a review at Google Play Store!)
BixBye in action:
UPDATE/NOTE: From the reports I have received so far, what I understand is that, Bixby itself is a bit inconsistent in its behaviour when the physical Bixby button is pressed. Sometimes it takes a single press to launch and at other times a double press or long press.
BixBye relies on Bixby to function. Once Bixby is in memory, you will notice that BixBye functions quite fast.
It's very likely that Samsung will issue more updates to improve the snappiness of Bixby itself, as a side effect BixBye will become even more snappy. So, updates from here on will be win-win for us.
Thank you @bstapley, @yaddam205 and @xPr0metheus for helping me test the App.
Thank you @theherkman, @xPr0metheus and @apoapostolov who have especially helped me do countless tests to optimize BixBye for Lockscreen! A lot of patience and time, much appreciated!
If anyone is interested in helping me test bleeding edge builds/experiments/improvements please PM me your Skype ID, timezone, free time availability.

What's new?
Version Alpha_4.1+:
#1 BixBye is now optimized for use on Lockscreen - however do note that you will see a flash of Bixby. Otherwise, when device is unlocked it would be as fast as you would expect.
#2 Removed 'Notification Drawer' option, as it doesn't play well with BixBye - can't 'toggle' Notification Drawer with the button.
#3 You can now BixBye to 'Back', 'Phone Dialer'.
Thanks for all the support, keep sharing the App.
Version Alpha_3.1:
Removed option to opt-in for Hola Network's resource sharing.
If you find the App useful for your device and would like to receive more development, please consider donating. Also, it will remove Ads.
Version Alpha_3.0:
#1 You can now BixBye to "Toggle Flashlight" and "Nothing".
#2 Ads can now be removed for free.
#3 Added donate link, forum link and other miscellaneous ones.
What's next? A free Tasker plugin will be available in next update.
Thank you all for the support.

Working fine here on a VZW S8+ w/ the latest update. Great job!
On T-Mobile and it does not work. If you turn it on, button does nothing. Turn it off and Bixby works. Installed from play store.
Edit: It does work with double press. Side note, if you uninstall it with it turned on it seems to disable the button.
Seems to be working fine for me. Now just need double tap and hold. (AT&T)
It works half. I use it for going back to home. It opens Bixby in a flash and then goes home. So it opens the app

The App relies on Bixby itself to work, so you may often see Bixby peeping in every now and then.

Interesting notes. So from what I understand so far, Bixby itself sometimes takes time to load up, and sometimes doesn't even respond to the button properly. I have got reports that, once Bixby itself is loaded properly and stays in memory, BixBye works very fast.
I will add a note to the first post about the same for new users who may be confused.
The good thing is, when Samsung improves Bixby with future updates, especially regarding its responsiveness, as a byproduct BixBye will also improve without any code changes from my side.

After testing all of the current ones, this one is definitely the fastest. Obviously you still see Bixby for a split second but it's the quickest to get out of it. Sometimes you don't even see Bixby at all.
Major Update: BixBye is now the only App to perform actions without launching Bixby itself (invisible to your slow, naked eyes!)
You can download it from Google Play Store or from the attachments.
Wow excellent work on this, doesn't even bring up Bixby for a second. Great work dev.

A systemless and standalone application which let's you skip tracks on your Android 8.0+ device by long pressing the volume keys.
Working on every 8.0+ ROM, including stock AOSP without root. Tested on 8, 9 and Q Beta!
Installation
Download the newest release from the link below and install it on your device as usual.
Connect your device to a computer and enable developer settings and fire up
adb shell pm grant com.cilenco.skiptrack android.permission.SET_VOLUME_KEY_LONG_PRESS_LISTENER
On startup the app will check if has the permission. If you don't see any message the process worked and you are ready to go.
If the app is installed as system application by flashing it through a recovery this step is not needed as the permission is granted automatically.

I'm sorry that I can not test it on that phone directly but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

Xperia XZ1, Stock 9.0 rom, i have no logs but app starts without error. All buttons are working. But it doesn't skip tracks on long colume button press on/offscreen.. when it is offscreen it doesn't change volume if this will help..(did all the instructions)
Samsung Galaxy S10+, app starts nor error, adb command all good too, but the skip function doesn't work.
Had a bug in it sorry for that! Also the signing should be fixed now.
So sorry for that. Please try the new version (same link)
Reinstall and may also try to rerun adb command!
It works as advertised now! Thank you!
Does this work when the screen is off?
Also, this is the first app I've seen that uses this API since we covered its existence nearly two years ago: https://www.xda-developers.com/android-oreo-volume-key-long-press/
edit: just read the GitHub readme, it does say it works when screen is off..will have to test.

Yeah it works with screen of as well!
Actually that post gave me the idea to create this app
I confirm it works now! Xperia XZ1 on Android 9 stock. Working like a charm. This is the only real standalone solution for skipping tracks with volume buttoms while screen is off on android 8-9. Great work dev ???
This is awesome! It works with every app I tried... except for Poweramp, which is my player of choice. This must be something on Poweramp's end though, since every other apps works as intended. What's weird is that Poweramp's beep seem to indicate that it's catching the next/previous commands, but won't skip tracks. Is there any specific configuration I should set on Poweramp for it to work?
does it work for Spotify?
I didn't even know there was an API for this but I'm so glad for this app, works perfectly on stock rooted OOS 9.0.4, thank you for this app!!! Took a little fiddling but it worked after a few minutes
I am so glad someone created this. I have been waiting for a standalone version of something like this since Xposed mods are a thing. This is awesome. Thank you so much!
very nice, thanks for sharing this app?
On an s10+ here, skip track works but volume will increase as if the button was being held. Ie. Once skipping to the next song, it will play at a much louder volume. Tested on Google play music and spotify.
UPDATE: disregard this, issue seemed to have fixed itself
