Best system wide add blocker that doesn't have a constant notification? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

What are some of your favorites?
I'm currently using adblock and don't really like the constant notification.

Adhell.
Free, modifies knox firewall, no VPN.
More for privacy though, so not all ads are taken care of..

I use AdGuard and I don't have any problem.

I use disconnect pro found in galaxy app store

DNS66 from Fdroid repository.
Only con I found is the key icon in the upper left corner.
Check it out, it works as good as adguard and is free.

Why don't you just disable notifications for the app?

Blockada has an option to turn off the notification.

Disconnect Pro (in the Galaxy Apps store) is just as effective as root-based ad blockers like AdAway. The catch is that it is pretty expensive. I grabbed it when it was $5 a year or two ago. It goes on sale once in a while.
Apparently Adhell (Google Play Store) is almost as good and is completely free.

Most ad blockers use a VPN, which results in an Android OS notification (key icon) that can only be hidden if you block all Android OS notifications, which most people wouldn't want to do.

In earlier versions of Android, we could turn off just the VPN notification and all was good. But somewhere around Lollipop, they changed it so that it's all or nothing.

Good luck sir. I like to use AdClear, you still get the notification, but I have a widget on my home screen to turn it on and off. It's supposed to bed able to block YouTube ads as well, but I've noticed it's hit and miss.

Adgruad works for me

Because... As you can see its from Android System.. I would then be disabling ALL "Android System" notifications...

Same here. Adguard's pretty good. I was lucky enough to get a lifetime subscription for very little a couple of years ago. One of the best software purchases I've ever made.

I use Disconnect Pro for Samsung. It works very well but it would be nice if single adds could be whitelisted. I like a XenForo feature, where Amazon links can be posted with picture and price. Disconnect blocks this as an ad.

[REQUEST] application that show last time an as been update (by dev in playstore)

sorry if this is the wrong place, just wonder if exist or someone dev can develop an application that shows the last time an application has been update in play store so if an app is not developed since long time i can check in playstore if there is a valid alternative.
cheers and thanks.
What? You can do that from the play store itself.

yes but i have a lot of apps and i want to be able to list and sort by update age it's an idea i know that can be done manually.
bump?
Try Changelog Droid from the market. It keeps history of your updates and shows when the app was last updated.

good suggestion but the upgrade "day" mentioned in this app is the day when you upgraded it not when the dev has released the upgade

Perhaps that's true, but how long do you usually wait before updating an app in the market? If you update the same day or even the next day, it's still pretty accurate, no?

the problem comes if you are a flash-aholic and restore from titanium after a clean full wipe flash of a rom.
In that case, you might be better off with a website that you can add your current apps on and it gives dates or details for when dev updates were issued.
I use something like that for ios, but I'm not sure what's available for Android apps.

tried but it does not import installed application by default and i'm not sure if it is possibile to list the application sorting last update (on play store) order.
Try MarketMarks.
You'll have to add your own apps there, but it will check for recent updates which you can't sort.
Not really sure what else would work. What are you trying to accomplish with what you're looking for?

Is there anyway to block ads in apps only and not in browsers? Many links I click on in emails and certain webpages use ad servers (I assume) and ad blocking causes these pages to say cannot be displayed. I do not want ads in apps themselves but still want to use links in the browsers that currently are not working when ad blocking is turned on.
I mailed the devs, they will release it any soon again.

There is a new version of Adfree with a new market link. You have to uninstall v.0.8.44 and install this one (v.0.8.45). Don't know why this was done...

Is Google now blocking the blockers? Either ADB, AdFree or another said I had to set a Proxy for it to work so I did. Today, I could no longer access the PlayStore. Deleted the Proxy in WiFi Advanced Settings and now can access the PlayStore again.

Pebble Watch and GS4

So I just bought the pebble watch for my Galaxy S4. I have been hesitant because of the Samsung bug, but so far the only one I noticed was the video player bars staying there. Anyone else can tell me what this watch is capable of? Or if the issues come up on the phone with time?

I like it but I don't know if its worth the $150 iny head (personally) I want it as more of an extension of my phone rather than just read texts.

If you turn on accessibility so that you can get whatsapp messages etc on the watch, then it enables talkback

Hi!
I've been using my pebble for some time now. I don't use the talk back service, so it doesn't bother me.
I can recommend pebble notifier as well!
I doubt that the bars staying on in video player are because of the pebble, as I remember that I've had that before I even had ordered my pebble.
It has appeared once or twice after that randomly as well and disappeared.

Disable Email Security

Has anybody found a way to disable the email security with Microsoft Exchange on the Note 10.1? I tried installing Wanam xposed, but it wouldn't install. Really don't want to have a lock screen just because of my email.

Any client that uses Activesync will force you to accept your IT dept rules. Try Mobimail. This app uses Exchange Web Service which is not subject to the server restrictions. It is a phone style interface but it looks pretty respectable on a tablet. Only down side is it uses its own calendar so it won't integrate with Android calendar widgets. But it does its own calendar notifications so maybe not a big deal.

Reason why there isn't a Google Maps app anymore?

Hi guys!
From what I read there used to be an Google Maps app created by Beowulf. It's gone from the market now.
I wasn't able to find another Google Maps app yet. Does anyone know what the holdup is to build an app that displays the map with your GPS-Position and the stars for favs in it?
That is an Open Street Map alternative, but it wants permissions I don't want this app to have.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

That would be great if it is functional!
The reason it's no longer in the play store is because the dev received complaints from Google and pulled the app.
Source: I contacted the dev (Sascha Loffler) regarding the availability of his Google Maps app and received a prompt reply. The alternative suggested to me was the GPS Maps for Smartwatch app that's currently available, which uses Open Street Maps and offers no Google Maps integration.
I can only assume if/when Google release their own smartwatch, services that are not currently accessible by 3rd parties will be its main focus, like a proper Google Now interface and Maps notifications!

Did they complain because your app did cost 2 euros? Or will they complain also complain if the app is free?

Hello,
the app was always free so it had nothing to do with that.
Since the complain was that it violated against the Terms of Service i also can't provide it here.
If you miss anything in the new GPS Maps App for Smartwatch 2 you can always send me a message and i will see what i can do.
The code of the first Maps app which used Google Maps was a mess anyway. It was one of my first android apps and included a lot of hacking and workarounds to have it working.
