Guide on how to successfully install V4A on Nougat 7.0 QA4
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
This is a guide on how to successfully install V4A on Nougat 7.0 QA4. I DO NOT take credit for this as I found it and wanted to share it. It took me a bit to get things right but it's successfully installed and working on my Verizon S7E running QA4 Nougat. So here we go. We DO NOT flash this with Flashfire as I've seen some guys trying to flash the zip file.
1. Go to the xda website https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223 and download the official V4A for Android 7.0 Nougat or get it here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3810171&d=1468285880
2. Unzip the folder
3. Go to xda website https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/themes/viper4android-proper-installation-t3340525 and follow the instructions. The instructions on that link don't explain to the T where to place the files and such.
4. If you don't have build prop editor, download it from the market, give it root permissions and add the lines as shown in the instructions.
5. Next, I used TB to make a backup of the specified apps that we needed to uninstall, then uninstalled them.
6. Go back to wherever you're unzipped V4A folder is and open that folder. Inside the V4A folder you'll see two different folders named META-INF and system. Go into the system folder. Once inside the system folder,go into the priv-app folder. Once in that folder go into the Viper4Android_FX_A4.x folder. Once in that folder you'll see your V4A app.
7. Copy or move that app from that folder into your /system/priv-app of your phone and go back to the system folder for the V4A unzipped file.
8. Copy all the other files from that system folder to inside of your /system of your phone.
9. Restart your phone
10. Open V4A and Install the V4A driver for whichever setting you want and BOOM! It SHOULD be working,if not you did something wrong. Go back and try again or change something.
Again....I DO NOT take credit and want to give credit to @Chainfire for root, @viper520 and @zhuhang for V4A, @tin2404 for the write-up on how to get this working on 7.0, @raziel36 for providing me with a download link to V4A,and @zubi182 for the Sound Mod Thread. Just wanted to share a little write-up and how-to with Verizon users.

Ok,I had it working last night and my battery died. Now V4A is not working. It says the driver is installed correctly and neon is not activated for some reason. I'll try to figure this out everybody.

If you download an OTA update but choose not to immediately install it, can someone please tell me where on the tab (which directory) and under what name the update files are stored? I want to start saving them as a sort of archive before I install them, in case I ever want to go back to a specific version. Are they normally automatically deleted after install?
Thanks.
If you have root they are in /cache/fota_dn and will be a long string of numbers/letters.
How about without root? Or not accessible without root?
Thanks!
Don't know I always root. I guess grab a file manager and look for that folder.

you must be rooted to see files in that folder. there's no simple way around that.

Since we now have root for the verizon s6, is it possible to get the stock browser and smart manager?
In theory. I was wondering the same thing but I've been working all day so I haven't had time to try

Yes, just follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xy-s6-apps-t3041330/post59644234#post59644234
Let me know how it turns out!
Just tried this, the app is in the drawer but when I open it just closes.

And you correctly changed the permissions in the /system/app folder?
Yes
Check your permissions. I did it and it worked for me. Remember that the folders have different permissions than the files.
Did u move it to the priv app folder or the app folder?
Confirmed that when ALL permissions are set properly it works great! The app and the folders have different permissions like the other guy said

Just the /System/App folder. Use Root Explorer to do the permission settings. Just match what other random folders/apps permissions look like in the /System/App folder.
Thanks I got it working!!!
**edit**
Got it!
I've created a tutorial here.
I copied to /system/app, changed the permissions of the SBrowser folder, the apk, the lib folder, and each of the files inside the lib folder, but then I get this when I try to install the apk. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: I must have missed the previous post. Got it working now. Thanks!
Anyone have step by step instructions on how to get smart manager working? I followed the s4 thread, but it is not working for me.
I got the FingerPrint AutoComplete working, check out my thread over at XDA Thread Link.
-not very hopeful for this-
any chance, now that people have the stock browser with root, to get it working without root?
I really don't want to root my phone just yet...

I did it earlier, have to be rooted to see the file that's downloaded. If you're using a root explorer search for "dlpkgfile" that's the name of the newest OTA at least, I made a copy on my SD card so I could keep putting it in the right dir and avoid downloading it all over again. Since I tried all my options i'm back to unrooted, still can't upgrade from g to o.
I don't remember the exact directory, somewhere in /etc/ if I recall.

I'm having the same issue with upgrading 10G. maybe there is a way in the ota Package
EDIT:
I found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699123 to force an update using the dlpkgfile from ota. I wonder if it could work for G4 also??
@TheJokah @ajent. Don't need to be rooted. Root Browser will be able to view the directory without root permissions. (I use it all the time to browse system partitions and files on unrooted devices). You can do a lot with Root Browser without root. You just can't make changes.
When the fota is available you will find it in /cache/fota
I have captured several OTAs for various devices this way...
EDIT: Make sure to copy the file after it downloads and before restart, otherwise the file will be deleted before you get it.
That is good info, thanks.
I'm pretty convinced flashfire installing the xposed zip does something that isn't reverted when flashing the unrooted system image. I used my limited knowledge to look at that xposed zip and it seems like only modifications are made to /system so it should be removed when flashing back unrooted image. I really don't know, but hope somebody can figure it out lol.
Thought i'd put this on it's own thread so it doesn't get lost in the sea of comments where i put it originally. Mods, if this belongs somewhere else please move.
For anyone wanting to change their emoji and not sure if you want to use that switcher app, its very simple. Install ES file explorer (i can't imagine most of you don't already have it) and go to system/fonts and locate "NoToColorEmojii.ttf" and rename it to your liking (i just renamed it with NoToColorEmojii_OLD.ttf). Then download a replacement TTF emoji file, i used this one :
http://www.mediafire.com/file/oe85f3h5mj0731k/NotoColorEmoji.ttf
NEW WORKING LINK POSTED
download it and put it in the same folder the old one is in, reboot your phone, and viola, you're good to go.
Hope this helps!
YES! Thank You for doing this.

Can you try that again? I think its just that it looks that way cause you can't preview this file. there should still be a DL button.

Can we have a screenshot for these emojis? Which ones are they even? These are the ones I'm using currently, which are the new Samsung emojis.
Anyone have the Samsung emojis?

Im rooted and still cant edit system files. I re-ran the recowvery script, and when i got to TWRP, I swiped to allow changes to the system partition. Then flashed no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip then flashed SuperSu.
I am certain about root priviliges. SuperSU prompts me when root is required, and I am using a custom rom.
I used a script in the app RomManager to mount system RW to no avail.
I am using ES File Manager. I dont understand this, so any help is appreciated. Thanks

I'm not a noob by any stretch but I'm feeling like one again with this LG stuff so just to clarify this is basically just a guess, but if you're positive you have root access then it sounds like the problem could be with the file explorer you're using. I don't use es file explorer myself so if it is the problem I couldn't tell you why, but I use solid explorer and I haven't had any issues with modifying system files. Anyway just thought I'd throw it out there in case you haven't already tried with a different file explorer. Hope it helps

That's good advice. My first thought exactly. I think the real problem was i had assumed the rom came with Busybox already installed. I installed Busybox when scripts for read/write access wouldnt run in apps that required it. Now things work perfectly.

It's funny because I had a similar problem when I first installed Adaway because it would download the updated host but it kept failing to install, and then it finally dawned on me when I was doing something else that required busybox that it wasn't already installed because for some reason I also had just assumed it was. Anyway I'm glad to hear you got it figured out ?

Okay. I can change the file of the original .tff to *_OLD.tff but cant copy and paste the new one to the /system/fonts directory because its a "read only directory". Yet ES File Explorer says Readable and Writable.
Any ideas i can try?

So i tried this deal and even after renaming and replacing i get no emogi anymore. Check picture attached. And renaming back old to normal did not help either. I did a factory reset and emoji still missing. Can some help. Thanks
Using SuperSU, BusyBox, ES File Explorer, and can't seem to get this app to process the audio. It's installed and the Viper app opens, but doing the thing where it asks me to install drivers everytime. I've tried these threads to troubleshoot:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-viper4android-install-the-proper-way-root-required.3691597/
I'm getting stuck at finding the soundfx folder in /system/lib/soundfx/
For some reason in File Explorer (and I've tried Root Browser too) I can't see the soundfx folder but I think it's there because when I try to create one it says can't use this name because folder already exists.
Also on step 4: 4. This step is dependent on your setup. If you are using a permissive kernel this is not necessary. If you're using SuperSU with an enforcing kernel you'll need to flash the ViPER4Android-supolicy.zip that is included in the attached zip file.
I am using SuperSU, but I have no idea how to flash the zip file they are talking about, and I don't know how to open a .zip files on this operating system.
I think there might be other ways to troubleshoot this problem because I've also found this link as well offering a different approach:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...w-features-7-0-support.2191223/#post-39156761
The thing with this link above is I don't know the difference between a system app and a user app. I've been working on this for a few days now, and am trying to find a way to bounce ideas off of someone who understands this better than I do. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks again guys!
