Does anybody else have a problem with the screen timeout settings? It seems to remain the same 10-15 seconds no matter what I put it on. Even if I set it to 10 minutes
Good for your battery life! ?
Are you talking about the lock screen or the normal display after you unlock it. There is no way to change the timeout of the lock screen.
I get that too. It times out no matter what time I set it!
This is driving me crazy!!

Might have something to do with face recognition. (Smart Stay) try messing with those settings too. I receive mine today so ill look into it too.
I'm having the same issue. Spent all night messing with every setting to no avail. Incredibly frustrating.
think its about smart stay, or did you use any battery saver that comes with the phone?
Does the same thing with smart stay on or off (unless you're staring right at the screen in good lighting), no battery saving modes used. On the phone with Samsung right now

Please let me know? I would like to find out what Samsung says!
They used smart tutor to access my phone and looked at all the settings. Said they would call me back when they have a solution. Didn't ever verbally confirm it as an issue, not holding out much hope

just for your info, I did spoke to Samsung as well and I reset the phone as they told me to. They are thinking there is something contradiction between your old backup data and current. It actaully fixed the issue but now I found a dead pixel.... shoot. Now I will have to go to T-mobile for the replacement phone. Hope they accept it.
So did they just have you do a factory reset? Sorry to hear about the dead pixel what a bummer. Anything you could tell me about what they had you do would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
I'm glad its not just me, I'm going to factory reset to see what happens. I've been using a Stay Alive app in the meantime
Installed the T-Mobile software update, made no difference. So far the only thing that seems to work for me is a factory reset and to set it up as a new device; restoring any devices through Google seems to result in the same issue. Restoring data from devices linked to Samsung account (which I have to if I log into Samsung account while setting up for some reason) doesn't seem to matter one way or the other.
Mine is working for now going to start installing my apps and hope it continues to do so

Hi, Thanks for the info. So which one did have an impact? Google backup or Samsung Cloud? I only restored phone number and picture from google and didn't even try Samsung cloud.

Samsung cloud seems to have no effect. Restoring app data (can add Google accounts etc. just do not restore data from any other devices when prompted) from any devices linked to my Google account causes the issue eveytime. Set up as a new device and manually selected apps to install from my list of apps in play store and all is well.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot! it helps! I am getting a warranty exchange for the dead pixel. You cannot get this exchange from Samsung directly but from the service provider.

Since upgrading to lollipop I'd noticed a couple of small niggles with me Galaxy S5. As I've not had to rebuild my phone since purchasing it, I decided a factory reset wouldn't do any harm. Since resetting, Google play services keeps waking my GPS and searching for my location, this happens every few minutes unless I turn the GPS off. I've got all the usual Google stalking features turned off (Google now, location history, location reporting) but I've still got the same issue. I've even reset again and unticked the box to restore my user data... But still Google want to know where I am.
Any ideas how to resolve this one? It's a pain if I have to keep turning my GPS off when I'm not using it, especially when I had no issue prior to factory resetting.

It's more likely one or several of the myriad of apps/services on your phone. Do you have a weather app on your phone? Well, how's it going to know how the weather is, if it doesn't know where you are? Facebook by default wants to know where you are so when you post or send a message, it tells everybody where you are. Even apps like music streamers want to know where you are so they can tell you where you were when you heard something. Lots of apps that you wouldn't expect to use GPS in fact do. The vast majority of this data collection is completely innocuous and harmless, but you always have the option to disallow it. Or not use the app(s) as well; remember, it was you that granted the app GPS permissions when you installed it.

Thanks for your suggestion, I don't think it is another app though. Prior to resetting my phone the 2nd and 3rd time I uninstalled any suspect apps one by one to see which one was the culprit. In the end I just went through the entire apps list and uninstalled/disabled everything I could, it made the phone really unstable and practically unusable but still didn't stop Google Play Services using my GPS every few minutes.
Any other ideas?

how about "Android Device Manager " .. is that disabled?
There are a lot of guides about how to fix this. It isn't always the same service that is an issue...but you can try and disable some of the ones that are known to be problematic. For example see post #3 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785128

Hi all,
First time post, been enjoying all the advice on how to root and all that jazz.
As the title says it; I'm having problems downloading any theme from the app store. Any theme I choose and hit "Download" on it just brings up a window for 1/2 a second that I believe says "Downloading" but never actually does anything. Another weird thing, the other 2 themes that are kind of defaulted for options that you can download both work. I'm not sure if this is a silly question, however I can't seem to figure it out as no one else seems to have this issue.
Random pieces of information:
1. Yes, my phone is rooted, however this issue was still around before I did so.
2. I have the AT&T variant Galaxy S6.
3. I've checked to see if there's any apparent apps I disabled that may cause it but the only app that seems like it may be related is "Theme Store", and that of course isn't disabled.
Thank you!
Did you disable the Samsung Account? It doesn't work without the Samsung Account apk.

Well, I think I figured out how to do it.
I made another account and registered my device on that Samsung account while un-activating it on my old one. However, I can't add the account on my phone, whenever I go to accounts on the settings page and choose Samsung account it does nothing, absolutely nothing. It just goes back a menu where it shows my account without allowing to input any information.

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I wanted to download a camera mode, but realize nothing would happen when I tried to install. I went back and enabled all of my disabled apps in Titanium Backup. But unfortunately I still cannot add a Samsung account. Same thing happens when I choose Samsung from the account types, nothing happens.
I've got a girl that I work with that is having the exact same issue. She has the 128gb Verizon model and essentially nothing happens when you try to install a theme. Same thing happens with the Samsung account as well, as soon as you go into add the account and press Samsung account, it just bumps you right back out to the accounts screen. I've tried clearing data for Samsung Account, Galaxy Apps, Theme Manager, etc. Not quite sure what the issue is.
You're not alone
I'm having the same issue after attempting to install new camera modes via galaxy apps store.
support advised me to disable Samsung account and clear the cache... now i can't add it back despite it being enabled.. its just an endless loop .. add account - chooses Samsung account - flips back t previous screen

Sorry for not posting any updates.
Well, this isn't probably what you want to hear, but I fixed it by doing a Factory Data Rest. I don't know if everyone else's issues are exactly what I was experiencing, but I noticed when I did this reset and had to link a Samsung Account upon first power up for the phone. I'll be honest, I don't remember doing this the first time I got the phone (This is my first Samsung Account so I wasn't aware you had to do this). Then, of course, I checked this issue and it was fixed. I know this isn't really figuring out how to fix the issue, but it worked for me.
Good luck guys!

I wasted hours on multiple days speaking to every venue availing for support and none were even aware it was possible and all claimed a factory reset. On the flip side verizon offered offered a refurbished replacement, but unless this continues I'd opt for the reset which fixed my account and now it runs like a dream... a super fast octabrain dream
I was facing the same problem.
Reading through this thread I've figured out what was wrong.
I have an old Samsung Account and this account was blocked on Samsung due to inactivity and new T&Cs to agree.
I've accessed the Samsung site (https://account.samsung.com) and reactivated my account.
After that, I became able to download the themes from Themes Store.

I have had the Note 8 for about 2 weeks now and earlier this week I just started noticing the freezing problem with the contacts and messages application. I have tried clearing data/cache. I have tried going into safe mode and removing third party apps. I have factory reset my phone as well. I have noticed that holding the contact down to select it will work, but simply tapping it freezes the phone. This goes for both the default messages and contacts apps.

The contact app is the same for both messaging and phone. It's a stand alone app. I've seen a few people with this issue, and am curious what causes it. I have had no issues with my so my guess is it has something to do with your setup.
Take a look at the below and see if any work
1.) What version of Contacts is in stalled on your phone?
I'm running v 3.4.04.4 Contacts and v 1.0.01.25 contacts storage. If you are not on either of those go grab the APK from APK MIRROR
2.) Check your account settings
Start with you Google account and see if there is a sync error. If not there then check Samsung cloud. If not there check your sync settings in the contact app. If there is any issue syncing it could be causing the crash.
3.) see if all of your contacts cause it to crash or just a specific one.
It could be an issue with something one app is trying to add to your contacts. I've seen linked in cause contacts to crash, and I've seen Facebook cause contacts to crash. If either of those are syncing with your contacts (check permissions) they could be causing the issue.
4.) Finally back on my S7 edge for some reason the contacts sync got jacked up when moving from my Note 4. The only thing that fixed it was running this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.ivary.ContactsSyncFix) Haven't had an issue since.
If any of these work let me know so we can help spread the word. Thanks.

Hi. I had similar problem. Try find solutions on web, none. Complaint to samsung facebook, no response. So I decided to;
1. Do System Update... but it says I have the latest installed already.
2. Open PlayStore, found out I set Auto Update to OFF. So I manually update everything (except Games apps)
3 Open Galaxy Store also Auto Update turned OFF. So do manual update everything (except games again)
4 Restart Phone
Dont know which steps solved it, but I dont have issue with Contacts or Message anymore. Its been more than 3 days now... no issue. So I guess you can try the above and see if it helps.
Its started to happen to me but while im in a game not on the phone or messenger.

If it's in game and not the contacts app try adjusting your performance mode in Gamer Tuner.
If it's not that then the game is probably the issue.

Hello community,
I'm listing the problems I have faced/ still facing with the Samsung Galaxy Watch4. If you have a solution, please comment. If you have other watch problems, please mention them with solution, if available.
Much of the problems below started AFTER doing a factory reset.
1. If I make a call from the watch, the contact picture doesn't show up in the background. I don't think it was like this before doing a factory reset.
2. If I get a call on the watch, the contact picture is very blurry. This is after a factory reset. Before the reset, it was fine.
3. Galaxy Wear app on my phone frequently fails to sync watch's battery info on the app. Same is true of Smart Things app. I have noted some of my observations and potential solution here and here. But other things are mostly fine on the app.
4. Although this happened only a couple of times, it is still worth mentioning: organizing the apps inside the Apps section in Galaxy Wear app did not sync the changes to the App Drawer on the watch. All changes done simply vanished, and I had to redo everything again.
5. There is no built-in way to backup the watch faces downloaded from the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store. And without root, Android (including WearOS) doesn't support backing up app data. This is just very pathetic.
The watch faces (only the APKs, not the app data) can be manually backed up using a file manager app. But it must be sideloaded using ADB, something most users wouldn't be comfortable with.
Limitations/ Drawback
1. One can't unpair a watch without having to do a factory reset to pair again.
2. One should not delete the app data for Galaxy Watch4 Manager app on the phone. If you do, you'll have to factory reset the watch to pair it again with the phone.
3. One should not delete the app data for Google Play Services app on the phone. If you do, you'll have to factory reset the watch to pair it again with the phone.
4. Watch Faces (with very few exceptions) don't come up with import/ export of configurations. If a watch face is uninstalled, it must be setup all over again.

I meant if you unpair the watch from the Bluetooth devices section or do a network reset on the phone, you'll have to factory reset the watch to pair it again.
Clearing system cache didn't help with any of the problems reported above.
I think this battery related problem is caused by apps on the watch that need a companion app on the phone. I'm not sure about it yet.

That's very odd. It sounds like a default setting has been changed somehow. Lol, a factory reset is not a viable option. You're missing something.

Someone said it is for security purposes, although it wasn't immediately clear how. Since it is designed to be that way, there should be good reasons for it, even if I haven't figured that out yet. It is not a permissions issue or optimization issue.
I have quite a few (about 30) watch faces, and the thought of factory reset scares me away. So I am careful about how I play with it.

Maybe uninstalling/reinstalling Wearables rather a reset. Sounds like another Samsung bug.
Lol, this N10+'s load is over 2 yo now. Androids should rarely need to be factory reset. One reason I like them so. Also why I avoid upgrades and updates once I have a fast, stable load.

If you have a Samsung account you can actually back up your watch and all its data just like a phone and when you set up the watch again you can choose to recover from the backup. Its in your watch settings on the wear app.

The Galaxy Watch4 Manager app stores the pairing key. If you uninstall it or delete its app data, you'll have to factory reset the watch to pair with your phone (or any device) again.

That backup is a useless thing. It only backups up your Quick Settings layout and a handful of System Settings. It doesn't backup any of the downloaded watch faces. And it doesn't backup watch configurations either.

Well, that's bad design. I thought it did a full backup, must've imagined that. My apologies.
Seems like the faces and their data are stored in the apps themselves. I was checking on that the other day and I would download 10 faces and go check the info under storage for the app and it would keep getting bigger in size. So, my question is how do you back up the app but not have it backup the apk instead. I can't even locate the physical app anywhere on the phone to try and back it up. Are the super top secret hidden or something? I'm stock android and have no way to root my phone. Has to be a way to at least do that right? Anyone?

See if SmartSwitch can back it up. Do Not use SmartSwitch to backup critical data though. It can be used to back Homepage and apps as well. Otherwise you will need to reload them.
There maybe a way using adb.
Always redundantly backup critical data including contacts to at least two hdds (copy/paste folders) that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC. Otherwise you will likely lose the data eventually.

See if SmartSwitch can back it up. Do Not use SmartSwitch to backup critical data though. It can be used to back Homepage and apps as well. Otherwise you will need to reload them.
There maybe a way using adb.

I'll give it a shot. I have a small raid set up that I use only for my phone well, because it is small and not useful for much else. Thanks.

I would use multiple hdds that are isolated from each other so a near lightning strike, fire, trojan, whatever can't wipe out all the copies at once.
so after 6mounth using this watch suddenly watch disappeared from wearable app and it wouldn't connect again always stuck on 80% or 90% of the process i searched many people faced this issue and had to reset the watch to connect it again and i'm using it on huawei phone (as before i was using) so wearable wont let you connect and you need to force it by samsung and now that i'm connected i cant signing my google account to my watch to restore my apps and watch faces now this google signing problem is there for all wearos users and many people face this problem i tried resetting the phone and watch several times using different google accounts and even tried to do this in a samsung device still the same result any one have any experience or idea about this? me and many others cant use their watches
FIXED!!!
UPDATE : After search for a long time and couple of factory resets and every single way that ppl said it fixed it for them it didnt worked for me until i saw someone had the same problem like me and only connecting to a Canada vpn fixed it for it sounded too random but i tried and it worked so if you have the same problem and other ways dont fix it try this first connect to a canada vpn then start copy account from wearable app on phone
I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra but ran into this issue when I first bought my Galaxy Watch4 Classic. What I ended up having to do is delete the Google account from my phone all together. Then setup the watch. Once I got the watch setup on the Galaxy Wear app, I reloaded my Google account on the phone, and all worked fine.

i tried almost all the ways that fixed some people problems like redoing multiple times disabling screen locks turning wifi off clearing data and caches removing g accounts almost everything out there but still there is too many people with the issue remaining idk why they make it so hard to do this when i could just put in my gmail and password in my watch simply
bhello same problem for 3 days, it annoys me crazy!!! I so regret having bought it, autonomy level is zero and now this bug with Google Frankly is too much
Hello. I had the same problem. After googling for longe time i found out it was a dns related issue.
Link (unfortunately only in german)
Long story short, as i could not figure out how to set up my router, i got it running by simply using mobile data instead of WIFI.
EDIT: I am not sure if i disabled "Private DNS" setting in Android as well
tu Still no response from Samsung? Does anyone know how to fix the problem? Me, I've tried all of them and I'm at the end of it

yes still no luck. i noticed after many reset factories my watch still connects to my wifi ap without required password and most of the people who cant solve this problem are using android 9 even on samsung s8 and s9 series
oh yes exactly, very strange the fact that the watch automatically reconnects itself to the wifi and that without any passwords and all that without any restoration!!
JI really hate against Samsung, because no solution is offered anyway went crazy. As usual, the customers remain in a dead end without any help from the manufacturer.

its either the watch is not wiping the data completely and the issue still remains or they are aware of this problem and cant solve it and even worse they wanna force ppl to upgrade their phones cuz all the new devices can fix the issue but the older devices running android 9 cant fix this and i searched lots of posts on samsung and google forums no official staff answering to the ppl only other ppl trying to help out. i mean why you should need to copy google account from the phone? why not just log into it with your freakin watch
It's not just Android 9. My OnePlus 10 Pro can't sign in. The Samsung sign in send you to a web browser to press continue to sign and just puts you in a death loop of continue button until failure. If you skip this part it fails to log in to Google account and then the wearable app has a bleeping seizure. I've tried resetting the device, restarting both phone and watch, wiping data from app uninstalling and reinstalling all needed apps and plugins.... I think this is a server side issue from Samsung bc when I go to Samsung website after creating my account I'm unable to to link my Google acct just a non functional set up button on the screen... At least my OnePlus watch can tell time this is just a useless wearable until patch is released
