[Feature Request] Time of all Files in a directory - MX Player

Hi,
I download many media like news, documentaries, reporting and other media in only audio or video.
And I have many Audiobooks or other podcasts.
Always when I delete a file I would know how long the rest time is to listen/watch the whole directory.
I have to use other apps or my Windows PC to check this although I use only mxplayer to listen/watch the files.
So I would be glad to have a new feature to see the resttime of all files on the directory.
At this time we can see how many files in a directory are. Can you add the time of the whole directory too?

How to remove (not delete) songs from the music player

Hi Guys, I recently downloaded a bunch of audiobooks and put them on my new Samsung Galaxy S III however it seems that the stock music player picked up these songs even though they were in a separate folder from my music. I was hoping somebody has found a way to remove songs from the stock media player with out actually deleting them. I use a different app for my audiobooks. Another possibility is having the music player only get songs from a specific location, which i also have no idea how to do.
Thanks for all your help guys
Make a new file in the folder you want not to show up and name it .nomedia. This causes the media scanner to skip the folder.

would this disable mort player from seeing the media also or just the music player?
I have no idea how mort works. This disables the built in media scanner from scanning the folder. If mort relies on the built in scanner to find media, then yes, I think will cause mort not to see your files. However, if mort has an import or manually add option, you can just add the folder yourself.
You can easily undo this by simply deleting the file, so just try it and see if it works for you.

I tried add the .nomedia file to my audio book folder however it seems my audio books are still showing up on the media player i have rebooted my device and updated my library. did i miss anything?
You may need to remove the files from the media player manually. The scanner won't automatically add them again. If you have too many files to remove them manually, try deleting the audiobooks from your device entirely, ensure they aren't in the media player anymore, then add them back along with the .nomedia file (probably put the .nomedia file in place first, just in case).
dump the junky stock player and get poweramp
it will solve all the problems you are having, you can tell it where to look for songs only

[Feature request][Resolved] Continious playing folder to folder

Please, add a feature - continuously playing video from one folder to next folder (similar to hardware MP3 players).
I have android media center in my car, so, i have a lots of music videoclips on hdd sorting by folders.
Now, after playing last video in folder MX Player stops.
And it's take some time and attention to find next folder in list, open it and start first video.
Please, add this feature!!!
MX Player is amazing! I love it!!!))
I saw from the sticky thread that this has been implemented. This is one of the major features I thought was missing from mx player, and I never would have found it if I hadn't come here with another issue.
I feel this incredibly useful new feature should have advertised somewhere. The change log in the play store maybe?
Did you know you can long press on folder and files and then press play button?
you can enable it by change sort view
just cancel sort by folder
enable/disable it menu->view

Music Player

Hi all, I have try using Google Music and Shuttle Music Player.. it's quite weird that it even detects my mpg files or my recording files which are store inside other folders ...
It's frustrating that I have to go through the Song list and start to blacklist one by one...is there a way around this ? I can't see it in the app Settings ...

This isn't a Google Music/Shuttle Player issue. This is how Android hunts for media.
To prevent any app from indexing a location that has media files (and by extension, showing up in any music/gallery/movie player app), you have to add a .nomedia file inside the directory that contains the files.
You can do this one of two ways; you can open a blank notepad file, save it with the filename ".nomedia" and set the filetype to "all types", or you can download this one which I made here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xat4bgykd5tugvl/nomedia.zip
Extract from the above folder, and copy and paste the .nomedia file into any folder that contains things you don't want to see in your media players. Then close Play Music/Shuttle or force close/clear data on them, and open them back up again. You won't see them anymore.
thank you so much ... that helps a lot

[Feature Request] SMB Share / Network Folders

Hello,
I have a few questions, I hope some one can answer them.
I would like to know if it is possible to set a video folder that is on a network or a web site. I have all my DVDs copied onto my server and would like to access them from my devices.
When I try to add a folder, via settings, it will not show me a network. If I go to Network stream I have to type in the complete url to the file its self for it to play.
Example: 13.125.44.133:4040/movies/61/video_ts/vts_01_1.vob
I would like to be able to see the directory with the list of folders that the movies are in and then select the folder and have the app play the movie.
Example:
Movies/
61
2012
After Earth
....
Maybe the only way to access to this folders its using a file explorer with the capabilities of accessing to network folders.
I was able to locate the file, like you suggested. I am using ES File Explore, it allowed me to save the path and also associate the vob files with MX Player. So now I have one more question. When I ripped my DVD's, they are just like on the DVD. There is 4 or 5 vob files numbered 1, 2, 3... When I select the first vob file and it plays to the end it goes back to the ES File Explore app and does not continue on to the second vob file. Is there a switch so that it will do this or will it just not do this?
MX Player currently has no built-in SMB share support. External apps like ES File Explorer only pass 1 file URI at a time to MX.
This has been previously requested before. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mx-videoplayer/nYpihpAVJq0/discussion
It's already on the feature requests list. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/sticky-running-list-feature-requests-t2718297
i see that there is a "back to list" i uncheck this and it went to the next file, seam to work.
Interesting, I didn't think that they would have changed so quickly to passing all the URIs in the folder. Well, good to see that you found a solution.

An amendment to what I said above; MX still doesn't receive all the URIs, but rather does predictive requests based on filename, as a quickfix to this issue.
I use ES file explorer to do this, you can 'save' the location as a shortcut to the desktop of your device (long press on the folder, select save to desktop)
There are currently a few bugs with this in the latest version which i have my own thread about, subtitles dont load and some videos require software playback to prevent audio going out of sync but it works and works well in general.
Anyone using this feature could tell me how it works when there are 2 files - video and subtitles?

If the directory listing is enabled on the host, MX Player can get the list of files. So, it will automatically load the subtitle as we. Else, MX Player will try to get the subtitle by assumption (by just replacing video extension with subtitle extensions). But, it doesn't work everywhere.
So, it's better to enable directory listing if you are using a local server.

[Q] MX Not Detecting Files

HI!
I usually download all my torrents on mobile including my TV shows.Recently,I downloaded arrested development season 1,mkv file and was watching it using mx Pla:yer prowhen all of a sudden my mx player stopped detecting those videos. So now I have to use my file explorer then navigate to downloads and then finally select a file and click it.This ****'s irritating ,so could you guys give me your advice, since you people know more?
@rashadthegre check
Settings > List > Folders
And see if your download folder is in the list of folders to be searched by MX.

Hi,
MX Player can detect most files with default setting.
But there are still some devices not detecting all files unless adding folders manually.
It would be help for improving default setting if you send system log after refreshing video list.
Please make sure that log should be gather immediately after refreshing video list because it will be erased periodically.
Thanks

Some of your video folders contains a file named ".nomedia". It actually represents that there is no media content inside the folder. So, if you keep any videos inside that directory or any subdirectory, it will be ignored.
For example your download folder in internal memory & media folder on external memory has ".nomedia" files. That's why it's not getting listed.
Either you have to delete those files or alternatively you can force MX Player to scan the directories even if ".nomedia" file found (Goto Settings >> List & Disable "Recognise .nomedia". Then, Refresh the video list.
Sent from my SM-G900H
That fixed it! Now i kinda feel stupid but im able to use my favorite video player again. Thank you! And I love you kind stranger lol.

.vdat looks like just alias of .mp4
Anyway it will be added on next version for convenient use.
