WRONG THREAD'S SECTION
Please ask in the Q&A Section
By the way, here is the rooting method for Z5
1/ Backup DRM Keys, store it in safe location
2/ Unlock Bootloader
3/ Flash custom kernel (Zach's SunKernel, OM5z kernel)
4/ Flash TWRP
5/ Flash supersu.zip via TWRP
6/ Reboot and enjoy your rooted Z5!
Happy flashing ^^

Yes very simple, but if u can't find your information by yourself in these forums it will be a long way to go and u might consider to not mess with your phone because you could likely end up with an expansive paperweight.

Xperia M2 - unlock Bootloader on Software 18.6.A.0.182.

hello Guys,
ive got an M2 (D2303) sice 2 Weeks with Stock Lollipop 5.1.1
BL unlocked allowed = YES
But Sony dev says "Important note! In order to unlock your Xperia™ M2 you need to be on software version 18.3.C.0.37"
My M2 works with 18.6.A.0.182.
need to root the Phone for a Special App which Needs root permission.
Question, whats the way, if there is one, to unlock my Bootloader for rooting the device.
P.S. sorry for my "beginner-english" and many thanks to help me out!

You can root your phone without unlock the bootloader.
You can unlock the bootloader in Any versión (i did in lollipop) you can do it with Sony way or with flashtool
thanks for reply!
can you tell me what is the easiest way to root my M2 with Lollipop? how do you did it?
so the bootloader unlock is only need for flashing Custom-Roms?
Big thanks

The easiest way is in this case NOT the safest way! KingRoot should do the trick on 18.6.A.0.182 FW but it also sends your phones IMEI to a cloud in China. I wouldn't recommend it!
I did it like this:
1. Use XperiFirm to download and FlashTool to create (e.g.) D2303_18.3.1.C.1.17_CE.ftf [4.4.4 Kitkat] (or search on this forum for it)
2. Flash: (e.g.) D2303_18.3.1.C.1.17_CE.ftf with FlashTool
3. Unzip & use: rootkitXperia_20150926-20151005.zip to root
4. Unzip & use: XperiaM2-MultiRecovery-PhilZ-TWRP-CWM-0.8.zip to install multi-recovery
5. Use XperiFirm to download and FlashTool to create 18.6.A.0.182 FW FTF for your D2303, country and provider (or a customized version)
6. Use PRFCreator, UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and XperiaM2-MultiRecovery-PhilZ-TWRP-CWM-0.8-flashable.zip to create flashable pre-rooted zip with multi-recovery
7. Reboot into TWRP recovery (when the cyan led glows push/press Volume UP)
8. Flash flashable pre-rooted zip with multi-recovery (using TWRP)
9. Flash zip: ric_disabler-flashable.zip in case you don't have full root access (using TWRP)
Before you begin make sure you have downloaded all needed files and made a backup from all your important phone data!
so the bootloader unlock is only need for flashing Custom-Roms?

That is correct. But please read this carefully before you want to unlock the bootloader!
Succes... and don't forget to click on the Thanks! button if you want to thank me.

Flashtool wont root it will it, you need to unlock the bootloader first to root the xa(there's also no way to back up the ta keys on the x range) , then pick your kernel+recovery for your model xa's firmware there's everything you need to root in the xa forum already.

Root?

Why it's almost impossible for us to have the root with the locked bootloader.? Since the day the mobile went out till now it wasn't possible ?, so is there a chance?

Nope highly unlikely, since dm-verity security was introduced on the z3+ all xperia devices after this require a unlocked bootloader for root. A modified system just won't boot up.

so after the searches, I did I found out the following:
1- first, since I'm on android 7.0 I need to downgrade to 6.0 in order to backup my TA ! wich I can do via Flashtool
2- I do the backup
3- I root the phone and restore the backup I did
4- I upgrade to android 7 and then I'm good to go!
my questions:
1-what will I lose after unlocking the bootloader? and if I restored the TA backup will that count as if i didn't unlock the bootloader?
2- how I will root the phone? with a custom kernel or is there any other way? and if with a kernel any advice?
3-shall I do the root before upgrading to android 7? or before? and will I be able to still get updates after the root? or i will have to do it through Flashing Ftf of the new updates?
4-anyone is running Xposed framework?
thanks so much in advance ))
im not sure what we lose after bootloader unlock.. From what i read on the androplus kernel thread, if you use androplus there is some amount of drm functionality restored. there is no clear consensus from what i have read, and being a ex-Z3 user im still paranoid about this as in Z3 without the DRM camera is basically ****.
no xposed for nougat yet - so that's out of question.

For every upgrade (via SONY's FTFs):
1. Flash FTF via Flashtool
2. flash suitable recovery and AndroPlus kernel (look in this forum and follow the instructions on AndroPlus' website)
3. boot into recovery, flash SuperSU and whatever you need
There should be a possibility to flash the devicekey (not the whole TA-partition!) to another partition to get the whole DRM-enchillada back. That does not work for me since it is not included in the FSC as of today.

What you will loose when unlocking BL:

At least the first two AFAIK are taken care of the DRM-Patch in AndroPlus's kernel.

2 see above, rinse and repeat for every new SONY Rom
3 same answer, since the modifications are overflashed by installing/flashing another ROM
4 I used to run XPrivacy, but ATM the granularity of options in MM and Nougat is enough for me -
there is no Xposed for Nougat ATM

Thanks for your time and effort, well the reason I wanted the root is for the xposed and for the adblock only and since there's no xposed support yet I think it's not necessary to lose what I may lose just for the adblock ? thanks again

Sony Xperia Z3 Root android 6.0.1

Hello. I've been rooting and flashing roms on phones since 2014.. mainly the devices that are easy to root such as galaxy devices and nexus devices but I am confused with my xperia z3 which i just bought to play around with.
It's on stock android marshmallow 6.0.1 and I want to root it and flash lineage OS and xposed framework..
I dont know if I have to unlock the bootloader etc and what method to root.. I have looked all over the internet but most of the tutorials are a couple of years old and outdated which makes it confusing for me because I dont know what to install and what not to install.
If anyone could refer me to something helpful or tell me what to do that would be very much appriciated. Thanks.
first u need to dial *#*#7378423#*#*
go to service test and check is ther bootloader unlock status : no or yes
IF NO : u cannot install android 7 (N)
IF YES : U CAN UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER EASILY WITH spflashtools
but if u are on bootloader unlock L : no
u can still root, install twrp, and xposed to your device,
easily find 'xperia z3 root noob' on google
open the link from XDA
follow the instruction
what i did is:
downgrade it to 4.4.4
then root reflash .291 (MM firmware) prerooted from xda too
that'all
How to do that sir ??
Here also a MM VERSION stock
Want to root a Z3 D6653
Can you help me how ?
Tnx
I have two questions too:
1) can I install an Android 6.0 rom without unlock the bootloader? I don't want to lose my DRM
2) If I want to change the recoery, do I need to unlock the bootloader? Can I install a different rom with the stock bootloader?

There is no other recovery than TWRP (not true on Android 4 and 5 since CWM also exists, but TWRP is still the best!)

Different ROM as in "stock ROM pre-rooted that has some apps replaced" ? Yes
But _not_ "ROM with different kernel compiled by some user", for that you need an UNlocked bootloader... see posts above

First of all,if you need to back up your TA keys, you need to downgrade to Marshmallow.
Just unlock the bootloader and flash a modified kernel. Then flash magisk and safety fix.
Alternative metheod: unlock the bootloader and flash existanz custom Rom.you will have root plus tons of added futures

Using flashtool. You need MM ftf file too. There is a guide in guide section.
