ANDROID 7.1.1 Started rolling out in India... For all Moto G4 plus users - Moto G4 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

So again its time for a good news ... For g4 and g4 plus users
Today i chat with Some Moto Executives to know about android 7.1.1 status for moto g4 plus.. i hoping that they say that we don't know but this time their answer is different . All of them now saying that Android 7.1.1 is starting rolling out in G4 plus In India..and Its a soak test build which is rolled out for all users ... And they claiming that few of their customers already get update
Check the chat screenshot for proof... :')

great news!!

They might be talking about the 14-4 update (still 7.1).

this T Gowthami is the only rep they have online? So so so famous, sometimes I feel like banging my head on the wall. Anyways the update will come when it has to come, nothing from our side will change the schedule.

Yes bro ......

Where is the information about the update ??
The link to forum of lenovo wont say anything about the update??, please can anyone clarify me if I am wrong

Confirmed
Motorola representative called me today for clearing the information about Android 7.1.1 update for Moto G4 Plus.
They have already started soak test of this update and the period of testing is near to end this month.
So, as per him, the update will start to rollout in 1st or 2nd week of May.
Congratulations!

Coming from future:
Athene won't get Android 7.1.1 neither 7.1.2. Lenovo ****ed up in marketing and we were not supposed to receive Android O, but Lenovo accepted their error now we've Android O confirmed only for G4 plus variant

If you trust all the news released by manufacturer you should know that there's a straight plan to release Oreo not 7.1.1
This thread is a little bit outdated, probably Oreo will be released if Motorola wants it.

Maybe they even wait until 8.1 release, Lenovo never said which Oreo the G4 Plus will get.

Actually guys g4+ will directly habe 8.0 update rolled out. Soak tests for N are already over. Moto executives have minimal to no info actually. We should expect the O update by the end of april next year, since g5s and g5 are in the line getting O first.

Thread closed as it is a) old, and has b) drifted away from the original topic.

Yes, As google has guaranteed to provide updates for 2years.

All Android One devices will get guaranteed update for 2 years as promised by Google. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update hopefully would be rolled out by the end of this year.

its just some bug fix's for android internal settings and some increment in battery performance and stability issues like camera shutter speed is increased . i recommend use greenify to increase the battery performance (it will force close some apps you dont need to run in the background).

I received it: time to create a new dump of my stock rom
Guys, you need to learn how to traffic sniff and find the URL of the OTA, *OR* find where it is downloaded to, pull the file and share it. Unless you do this, sharing this information is useless, and could be seen as rubbing people's faces in it.
Thanks, hope you understand.
NPP25.137-73 I believe is only for the Amazon version of Moto G5.
How did I come to this conclusion?
I installed a custom rom LineageOS 14.1 and Resurrection Remix on both roms I was unable to make calls with Reliance JIO.
Additionally when I went to look for updates I was unable to find any updates on the phone.
After a lot of research I was finally able to find a website that listed the Amazon version of the firmware.
Once I installed the Amazon version of the firmware everything went back to normal and I was able to make calls using Reliance JIO and when I went to check for system updates NPP25.137-73 showed.
Below is the link to website that lists all the stock firmware for the Moto G5

Do you have a link with that Amazon version? If by some reason you don't want to share that link, could you please upload the firmware zip somewhere to share? Say google drive. If it takes too much space just share it for a while so I can download and reshare it myself.

Hi. Maybe someone can clear up a few questions for me. I have a G5, still on NPP25.137-15. Software Channel retgb. It is the XT1675 model.
Does anyone know if there is a more up-to-date Security Update for this phone?
There has been some chat on the Lenovo forum of the "retgb" stuff being ignored. Can anyone confirm this? If there are updates available how can I download them.
And does anyone know if changing to the "reteu" channel (if this is possible) speeds up availability of updates?
Thanks.

Oreo update is for Australia, also there is no Oreo for the regular G4 and the link indicates G4 and G4 Plus
I think we have to be careful here, I went to the support page for Moto g4 plus in the Australian website and there is nothing about this release, also the link that OP left leads to the official Motorola website and clearly states that it is the february security patch, this posts may be click bait, as we have seen before...
I'm not pretty sure it's clickbait, proandroid is a trusted webpage well known in Spain and Latin America, by the way we do not have info about oreo beside this pages.

Here's the link to the original, Australian source, conviniently they don't have a verifiable source, they claim to have received an email from motorola's public relations area
https: //ausdroid.net/2018/02/05/ motorola-rolling-oreo-large- number-phones-today /
(I can't post links yet, just fill out the spaces, copy and paste into a browser)
That patch looks like the 7.0 February 2018 security patch. There's no information on that update notes that suggests it's Oreo (they'd surely mention it's Oreo 8.0) and we've not even seen a soak test for our devices yet. A soak test appears usually when Motorola is testing an update, as they've been doing for the Z play, z for example.
As far as I can see, even the G5/G5 plus is waiting for the soak test, so whoever the source is, we might be at the end or towards of this roll out. Technically, the rollout has started, for Z play and Z devices (soak) and X4 (deployed). I don't see any soak test reports from our sister G5/G5S forums.
Well I don't see anyone who can actually confirm getting this update, so what is the proof that it's actually Oreo? The OP link simply described it as the February Security Patch.

Oreo runs very well on 2G/16G device, especially the 32bit versions. Lenovo will never release a 64bit based Oreo rom for G4 plus.
Forget about oreo,, as the op has written it clearly says about feb security update and the link that he has given also tells about security update.

Are you signed up to the Motorola Feedback Network? https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Forum-...for-the-Motorola-Feedback-Network/m-p/3064626
Usually to receive these emails, you have to be a member and also have been selected at the time they are recruiting for the soak test. These emails, as I understand it, are linked to the user they're sent to, so you won't be able to sign on with another user's email. Of course, if you sign up to the Motorola test drive, please be responsible and report bugs that you encounter to Motorola.
Failing that, the soak test (if this is the soak test) may be leaked here on XDA. If it is leaked, be aware that there may be bugs and if you flash this soak test without being part of the Motorola Feedback Network, you may get no further soak tests or any updates unless someone captures the rest of the soak test updates. Until we know more about this update, downgrading back to Nougat may be risky and there may be a risk of hard bricking your device.
@echo92 remembers me at the time of the nougat soak test where no blank flash files were available. People flashed soak test, thinks won't work as expected, they flashed back stock mm rom and... Brick
Hope that people are more aware of this risk nowadays....

Oh, I hope so too - it was not fun (and still is not fun) telling users that they may have a fancy paperweight - even if our device is over 2 years old by now. Those times on the G4 Plus forums were crazy too... I also have a feeling that upon release of this Oreo OTA soak test or the official soak test, the existing blankflash may not work anymore. Motorola appears to have built in further protections or updated the bootloader to not permit older blankflashes to be used (as seen on the Moto Z Play: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77360506&postcount=385 )
Code:
[ 0.210] Waiting for firehose to get ready
[ 3.215] Target NAK!
[ 3.215] ...This version of programmer has been revoked!
[ 3.215] ...Rebooting to blank flash mode in 30 seconds...
In other words, be very, very careful if you downgrade your firmware and use OTA updates.
I'm from India, I've also received test drive email, but I'm already on custom rom
I also received this email, after I received and replied. After that, does it take too long to release the system? I'm from Brazil.
I am signed up for MFN and Oreo soak test and did not receive any email.

If this is a soak test, then from the other soak tests, it's likely a couple of weeks to recruit the testers, then the test may run for a couple of months, during which you'll be issued various soak test updates. Depending on what bugs are reported, the official OTA may be released then or be delayed for further testing.

I may sound silly or like a noob. But i wanna ask something.
If moto gives oreo update, will that enable "treble" in our device.?
Or in other words will this update be helpful in anyway for treble.? so that it will be helpful for developers to build better pie ROMs

Hmm, i doubt we'll get treble officially for our device. We don't have a native vendor partition as far as i understand, and to get one would likely require repartitioning/erasing of data (especially as Motorola would likely want to keep the OEM partition). I understand other OEMs had an unused partition to use for treble, though treble is not a requirement of being updated to Oreo - only a requirement for devices launched with Oreo, from what i understand.
This update would be useful in providing updated drivers and firmware, which developers don't seem to be able to modify due to their closed source/proprietary nature. This, I'm hoping that custom ROMs would be more stable, less buggy and perhaps less work to make patches for the drivers to play nice on a Pie system.
From what I've seen of Treble, it does work to get a booting device. However, for device specific features, it seems that additional patches or a device specific system image are required. Thus for some, they may still prefer a custom ROM specifically built by a developer who knows their device. It's still impressive what can be achieved nonetheless.

I'm thinking the same thing. Also to the OP, I don't think people wanted Pie so much, as the timely updates that were promised between Google's Project Treble and LG themselves. Since a lot of people will be left on a locked bootloader, we actually have to wait for workarounds (exploits) to getting AOSP/Lineage/etc running. Sadly, this makes these phones less desirable for devs to work on/improve.
Impatient when it took a year ? Id biy a 50$ phone if i want no updates
I'll be moving onto another phone long before my G7 sees Android 10, not because I didn't my phone but because I'll have the itch for a new one before the end of next year.
I do like the Pie update I got from Verizon. I just wish the Pie update worked as well on my V30.
They update in 1 week of August
