Stock SGS7 keeps "loosing" SD-card - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I just purchased a Galaxy S7. I had an old but trustworthy SDXC 64GB card which I moved from my Galaxy S4 to this new phone.
I noticed that the the card "comes and goes". When playing music, the song usually starts normally but after some 15 seconds the song stops and music player (PowerAmp full version) says that the folder cannot be found. This happens sometimes while screen turning off - power-save related issue? Also on ES File Explorer sometimes the card vanishes when I'm browsing its contents. Sometimes when playing the song and using another app (screen on) the same behaviour occurs.
Steps taken, without success:
- uninstalled Greenify
- disabled battery optimization for System UI and PowerAmp.
- disabled the OS power saving mode completely
The phone runs stock OS, is unrooted. The card sits firmly on its mount.
Am I doing something wrong here? The same card has always ran on my old phone with zero issues whatsoever, its hard to believe that its failed on the second that it was moved to another phone.

Returned the card to old phone and inserted a smaller, fresh formatted 32GB instead > problem solved.

i had tghe same problem then i bought a sammy sd card and it was fixed

Soft reboot when Ext SD card in Cap

I am having maddening issues with my Cap (running KJ3 rooted). When the SD card is inserted, it becomes very unstable and soft reboots - usually on startup (and repeats ad infinitium). If I start up without the SD card, I am stable, but I have many apps that KJ3 defaults to installing on the SD card. The problem occurs whether I insert the card before boot up, or insert after it has started up.
I have the same issue with 2 different cards. I tried a brand new class 10, 16GB. I restored apps from my TiBu backup which I had copied from the old card to new (on PC) - not sure if that is the issue...
Anyone have any ideas?
Well, if I am not mistaken, apps which are installed to SD are not on the removable SD card, but on the captivate's "Internal SD", which is the 16GB... well actually about 13GB after the phone's "internal Storage" partition is lopped off of it.
I would try a reflash and then test it before you install the apps.

I've been down that road more times than you can imagine - flash, wipe in recovery, and reload. I had thought that it was the .androidsecure directory on the external SD that held the parts of the apps that move. what is clear is that this only happens with the external SD card inserted and mounted, and almost always happens within 10 minutes of startup or the previous cycle, i.e., before any program launches other than TouchWiz and often before any email sync (this is my work phone, syncs with Exchange 2007 server).
I did get a list of all apps that have the start on boot permission, not sure if any of these are regular problem children, they are, on my phone (not sure why some of them need that permission, but that's a different story):
Amazon MP3
Amazon Appstore
Contapps
Dolphin Browser

FIOS Remote
FilghtView Free
Folder Organizer
GetJar

Google Voice
Handcent SMS
iCookbook

Did you move the apps back to internal memory after restoring them? Iirc, when using the later leaks, they install all the apps to external sd(if there is one in the phone).

Going to start doing that, the next time I have a stable spell with the card in. The problem is that the failure is intermittent. It doesn't fail every time I have the SD card in, but every time it does fail, I have the card installed, and it usually takes awhile before it starts working again. Thinking about another factory reset and then reinstalling apps without TiBu help or the card in, at least until I get all of the ones that startup in main memory to eliminate that possibility.
Of course with the Epic finally getting the official upgrade, kind of want to hold off until the Captivate image finally comes out, that way if it is a hardware problem. I'll be on stock for the warranty exchange.
Arggh... maddening problems continued.
The phone stayed up (with SD card in for about 16 hours), during that time I moved every app with the permission to launch on boot to main memory. I then had the kernel panic, or whatever the soft boot actually is, occur while in Pocket Informant.
I then watched it cycle through display PIN-lock screen, start media scan, screen shut off, and then re-boot seven times, approximately every three minutes while never touching the phone. Some times I saw on the status bar "Media scan completed", sometimes it had the icons.
After powering down, and starting up from off - it is now up again, who knows for how long.
So unfortunately, I can now say this is not just a startup issue; I can also say that something that happens during startup (or at least the kernel launch) creates the conditions for this reboot cycle to occur.
Anyone out there have any ideas?

question what kind of sd card do you have in there as in what class? class 10s can cause issues . wait i see .. have you tried a class 4 or 6? I had mutiple 10s cause issues like this and exchanged for a 4 and all issues went away .. or you can format the card on your computer using fat32 and set to 32k sectors but that did not work for me ..

I had a 16GB class 4 (Patriot) in. I just replaced it with a PNY 16GB Class 10. Both have had the same issues (currently using the Class 10). Both were formatted in the phone itself - so assuming they are FAT32.

(solved) Big external micro sd card issues

I am getting an error, old as android itself, with my new s7 Exynos. "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". This happens when I try to copy my 25 gb music library on external sd card. I tried all usual stuff like:
- Use different cables
- Reinstall samsung drivers via Kies
- Transfer using MTP or PTP
- Use USB Debugging on and Stay awake option on
- Tried pushing folder via ADB push command, but it says "Read-only file system" when I typed location as /sdcard1 (which I think is an extSdcard right? It did copy a .txt file if I typed just /sdcard but that is internal storage)
- Tried with Samsungs own SmartSwitch but the bloody thing doesn't even have an option to copy files to device (only backup and restore), and Kies is not supported for S7.
On side note, the same sd card worked perfectly with my S3 and gave no errors. When I inserted sd card into S7, I formatted it inside the device. What other troubleshooting stuff should I do? I can't believe that this crap is still an issue. Why can't we have our USB Mass Storage back?
-----------------------------
Big edit:
Ok my phone doesn't seem to like this sdcard. I inserted microsd card to my s3 and copied 17 gb of files, to check if there is a problem with MTP connection or sdcard, but it copied all 17 gb of files without any errors or problems. I checked on phone if it reads correctly, and all music plays fine instantly without any lag or freez. But when I inserted this micro sdcard back into my s7, there was a massive lag/freezes. When I click "MyFiles" or "SolidExplorer", or any other file manager, there is a big lag/freeze, and file manager never opens (it is always stuck). Also, when I go into settings and when I press "unmount" under storage, nothing happens. When I press home, it doesnt go to home screen, and says that touchwizz is not responding (if I change default applications to Nova launcher, it does go to the homescreen though). When I try to open Shealth app, it doesnt open it. Also when I put my phone to sleep, I have to wait like 10 seconds for screen to turn off sometimes. When I pop out sdcard though, all the problems go away INSTANTLY. Everything is smooth again and responsive, file manager opens, shealth opens, everything works like it should. If I insert sd card back in, same problems happen.
And as a cherry on the cake, I put sdcard back into my s3, and everything still works fine. All files are readable, music playes, etc.
When I was searching online, this is the closest thing I have found that explains my problems, but there was no solution: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4/542854-sd-card-freezes-note-4-a.html
Anyone ever experienced anything similar?
EDIT: Luckly, it was not my phone fault. It was my sd card. Even though it worked fine on s3 and my friends s5, it didn't work in s7 for some reason. I purchased samsung evo+ and it works flawlessly.
try format as exfat ?
Can't, it is 32gb card and it is not allowing me. Also, sometimes when I insert it, the whole phone freezes complitely. Once I even had to use volume down + power button for 10 seconds reset method since it froze complitely. Card is in fat32.
edit: I also tried copying files from USB flash drive (adata 64gb exFat) to sdcard directly on my phone, via OTG cable. It also stopped the process midway and phone wouldn't enter into any file storage (it froze). I had to remove sdcard again and insert it back in to remove that freezing.
edit2: I copied 17gb folder full of subfolders to internal storage, and it transferred without any problems and pretty fast (about 20 minutes). That means MTP connection and drivers are fine. When I tried copying the same 17gb folder to external sd card, "device stopped responding or has been disconnected" error again.
It seems like this is a lot bigger problem, as this is not really an issue about "device stopped responding" anymore. I edited first post. Still looking for solution.
Search the forums, this is a known issue with some phones. You can try other cards, sometimes that will help. Or get your phone replaced as it's a hardware defect. My first S7 was like that. This one reads sdcard without issues (but has radio issues).

Samsung S8 Plus - Verizon - Random Reboots / SD Card Issues

Hi All,
I got a new S8 Plus this past Friday. Nice phone, but after spending a few days with it, it seems to have some issues.
The SD card seems to mount and unmount randomly. I have a few apps that are on my SD card and every now and then I just get the gray android generic "App Not Available" icon in place of the correct app icon. Then eventually it may show up again, or it may take a reboot to show up again.
The other thing (more annoying to me) is that the phone randomly reboots without error. No heat, no other issues that I can find, just a complete reboot. Again, there is no app that seems to do it, no excessive (or any noticiable heat at all for that matter). Just a reboot. I know it does it overnight as well because I can check the system up time, and I can also tell because I have iris scanning set up and after a reboot you have to plug in your pin number no matter what.
FYI - I called Samsung and they had me clear my cache and reboot to safe mode. Other than that, they did nothing else, said to watch it. And did not indicate anyone else was experiencing this.
Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this.
Thank you!
A lot of folks are experiencing this, myself included. Try moving any apps you have put on your SD card to back to internal storage, that stopped the random reboots for me. I've removed my SD card for now, hoping a software fix is possible. If this "SD Card Monitor" app is correct my card mounts/unmounts 100+ times per day, even when sitting untouched on my desk!

I have an old Sandisk 200Gb installed in my T-Mobile variant 8+ and have not experienced any sdcard issues or reboot issues. I DO NOT have any apps installed to the sdcard either.
Verizon S8+ here. I have a year old Sandisk 128gb Sdcard in mine and I have no reboot or dismount issues.

Android 6.0.1 SD Card Issue: Files Accessible but Apps will not load...?

I am at a loss... I have a Samsung Galaxy J7, (sm-j700p) and I have a 64GB SD card in it. It was working fine until thirty minutes ago, and a preexisting problem reared its ugly head; The battery the device comes with does not have the proper voltage to power the device when it's under a large amount of stress. So when the screen spazzed out, I thought I knew what happened, and I just powered off the device, popped the battery out and then let the device fully recharge, which fixed the problem. But unfortunately, a new problem arose. The apps I had moved to the SD Card weren't loading in, as if the SD Card wasn't inserted. I went to the Storage settings (Settings>Storage) and low and behold, it was reading it as mounted. So I jumped over to Total Commander (my 3rd party file browser) and found I could access and manipulate the files with no problems. So could anyone tell me what happened? And maybe how to fix it?
[EDIT] I have fixed the SD Card, basically copying the data from the SD to my PC, then formatting the Card, and setting it up on the device before restoring the files. The only problem I face now is when I move apps, the phone either has no problem with it or restarts immediatly.

Corrupted SD Card backhanded Android Firmware

I have been the owner of this Samsung Galaxy S9 for about 13 months now, and earlier today my battery died. When I turned the phone back on after partial charging, it acted extremely strangely. It rebooted to the secure boot pin screen a few times, and even to recovery mode a couple of times, rebooting about every 3 minutes. But that isn't it; wifi and cellular refused to connect, the screen would not go off if I pressed the power button, the settings app would not open, many other apps barely works, and the device was very slow for the time it was on.
I did the usual troubleshooting steps, clearing the cache in recovery mode, booting into safe mode, uninstalling recently installed apps, scanning with Knox and Malwarebytes, nothing. But, I remembered the day before, inside Samsung Gallery, there was a little text box before my images that said "SD Card has corrupted information, please back up your SD card and consider replacing it." I didn't think too much about it, or screenshot it. Well, to try something, I removed the SD card and booted normally. The only thing I changed that time was the lack of the SD card and voila, it worked fine. Haven't had an issue since, and I honestly think it might be running better.
For my amateur speculation/hypothesis: I believe when Android starts up, it tries to index installed SD cards. The card I am using is an old Samsung Evo 32 GB card, to the tune of 5+ years. Possibly, with the age of the card, there was light corruption in one folder or cell, and Android didn't know what to do with it. I can't find any corrupted files, but I guess Android hung on parsing the microSD card. I just wanted to share my experience and see if anyone had heard of something similar; I sure cannot find anything on it.
TL;DR: A corrupted microSD card in my Galaxy S9 caused Android to lose most function, and bootloop. Usual troubleshooting did nothing, however, removing the card returned the OS back to normal.
