[Project] Metahill | Getting live help real quick to programming questions :)

Metahill Website
Introduction
The rage is all about Metahill!
Metahill is a small project made up by 3 computer science students in Karlsruhe, Germany.
We intentionally only use the state-of-the-art technologies HTML5, CSS3, Javascript und Python.
No weirdo Flash and for sure no Silverlight is required. Ah yeah, and thus the website by the way loads super-fast .
But let's come to the real thing here..
What exactly is it about?
The best thing to do here is most likely just citing the landing page:
At metahill, you can meet other enthusiasts and chat with them in real-time.
It is entirely free, ad-free and community-driven.
Simple.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Metahill is a website where you can totally free of charge (and ads-free!!) chat with ethusiasts all around the world.
The cool thing is that all communication is categorized by rooms - the chat rooms. Plenty exist by default, but everyone may make new ones.
Users help users.
Of course you can be within multiple rooms at the same time, that is no problem at all, it's encouraged!
The page then looks just like that:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
What are the advantages of metahill.com over existing medias?
There is a bunch of good reasons why Metahill can be considered "superior" to other, existing services.
We listed the most significant ones at the official Metahill help site.
I will just touch the categories in this topic. Nonetheless you can find a longer description on each of these at the help page http://www.metahill.com/help
Uniformity across all devices
It is easy to get involved
It is lightning fast, thanks to open standards
We're organized
Beyond text
Never again miss anything
Behind all this is an open community
Metahill is simple to use
Community-revised code on German servers (Nope, NSA!)
To the original list.
Why im I posting this?
I like XNA and the people around here!
Leaving this aside, we also seek freaked-out beta-testers "early adapters" who would like to test metahill or even get involved.
This project is now online since a few month and keeps running quite stable, yet we need waaaay more users for the network to reach its full potential!
What is _your_ top-feature of metahill?
Messages are (if you choose so) logged for three days and there is a real bunch smilies and easter-eggs. Awwr, I like easter-eggs.
Yet my favorite feature is that I can share images so easily. Drag'n'Drop (or CTRL-C/V) your picture into the browser and the others will see it. Dude, it can't be easier . Problem reporting is a dream.
Metahill for (Web)Developers
One thing at the beginning: The developer page can be found at http://d.metahill.com.
What's planned are Android and iOS apps of Metahill.
You can embed Metahill as a client within your websites using iframes.
For instance to comment live-streams, let's play's or just to offer free live-support on your website.
To the "Embedding Metahill" Blog-Entry.

I hope we will meet there too and look forward!
so long,

Why don't you support at least IE10? I'm browsing from a windows 8 tablet, and I can't even get to a landing page? Nice.
BTW: I really like XNA too.
We support Chrome, FF, Safari and Opera. IE still does not meet our standards, nor does it meet state-of-the-art web standards. The IE10 is at the technological level of Chrome 16. The current Chrome version is 29 and 30 is just about to come out. I strongly encourage you to use one of the four above browser if it is possible.
That is the reason why we both confidentially and intentionally do not (and never will) support the Internet Explorer.

That's great, but that "never will" tells me that this comes at least in part from an ideological bias, and not purely a technical obstacle. I was going to ask which particular features are you using that are not supported in IE10, but I suspect it doesn't really matter.
Anyway, best luck in your project, and I hope that you'll keep your cool and be pragmatic when tackling many of the challenges that lie ahead in your path.

Thank you, sir! The technical issues lie in CSS3 and HTML5 support. We use many of the features that just came out a few months ago to get the most out of the current web. Using the latest technologies like WebSockets over here improves the speed dramatically. We tested a lot with IE yet to make it work properly there much extra work would currently be required. Adding numerous exceptions to the code will impair the user experience of the users who use one of the four favorited browsers.
Yesterday we had a little re-design. I hope you like it!

Once again many little things have been improved.
The focus has been set to practical computer science topics, such as various programming languages and platforms.
Examples are the new rooms "C++" and "Android".

Will add some of them. I had thought of adding all of them initially but it would result in flooding with the same piece of news from various sites. It defeats the purpose and increases data usage, needs more space, etc.
But still might add in a couple of them as they offer breaking and exclusive news.

Please add these two options in this priority order:
1) The ability to include or exclude feeds from the built in list (checkbox UI)
2) The ability to add your own feed url. You will likely need to specify supported content requirements.
Thanks for considering my requests.

I really thank you dev I followed you from the other thread about flowly. Thanks for putting this together. I'd definitely look at the sources in flowly because those are the a lot of the main android sources. Like someone posted above the ability to add or turn off feeds individually would be awesome. I know you're working with the appyet format so I don't know it's limitations but those would be the suggestions I have. A working replacement for flowly. Regardless thanks for putting this together.

The ability to turn off feeds is under development I believe.
I did not want the app to be flooded with the same news over and over again. The IFA 2014 week has started and if a new mobile comes out it will be reported in all Android sites and my app will have the same news over and over again! Anyways I will release an update later in the week to add more Android sources.
Guys please click on the Thanks button and more importantly give our honest reviews at the play store.
Also spread the word, I have only 20+ downloads.
I love the way this app operates. The original Flowly was best tho, I ordered pro to get more themes but was obviously ripped off. This app is nice, but I agree with everyone that there isn't enough feeds. It wasn't flooded with redundant information, and not only that, but all the sites do different phone reviews and such. I waited a month and a half for my Note 4, so watching everyones review/hands on videos helped. Going to uninstall for now, let us know if you add more feeds.
Thanks for this, I also came from flowly. I would also like to ask for the ability to choose/unchoose feeds, and the option to add your own.

Collect your socials in one place
Smart Feed - is a platform for popular social networks, allowing to create your personal feed just for a few minutes by combining all the news in chronological order. Smart Feed extends the basic functionality of social networking news feeds, giving the opportunity to share information in a variety of social networks, to comment, to put Like, to repost records, to save photos from Instagram ( not only) on your device, and so on.
Various types of Feeds
The main "Home feed" allows you to monitor the activity of your friends, groups, communities in all connected social networks. Through the "Home", the you can choose favorite records, write your own post, do re-post and send it in the necessary social networks, while attaching (if desired) photos, links, etc. News collected in all feeds in chronological order, and the app will notify you if there will be new entries.
In the "Favorites" feed you can get the posts that the you liked. Now you can easily find all the records with the "Like" status from the connected social networks.
There is another stream "My Feed". It contains posts written personally by you, which are carefully sorted by relevant social networks and integrated into the overall Smart Feed.
With Smart Feed you can also do all standard operations under a separate social network.
Several accounts in one social network? We say - No problem!
In the application, you can connect multiple accounts of one social network. At the same time, Smart Feed "allocate" a separate tab for news of a new account, so you do not have to guess which of them corresponds to a record. If the user desided, that there is no need to get news from any account, the relevant settings offered him the opportunity to "deactivate" it (reversible process).
Just give a try!

Hello everybody! Our micro-team continues to work on the project. We focused on the backend, because we have identified problems in the application due to incorrect operation of the server. I think we need another week to prepare for the next update. :angel:
We also understand how important it is to update the app often, but we're so deep into improving the backend, and improving the stability that is hoped that users will be satisfied :fingers-crossed:

This app was developed with Angular 2 and Ionic 2, thanks to them for their great support.
Feedback and advice are more than welcome.
Downloading and testing. Comments soon. Thanks.
I do a test!
First smooth interface, I did not expect that for an hybrid app.
The integration of the "text to speech" is nice.
I will make a full feedback, I still use a bit.
After using the app:
What I like:
- user interface clean and quick
- readability feature (in my opinion, an important feature for an RSS reader)
- work nice on my smartphone and tablet
- i like adaptive view
As improvement:
- search feed could be more accurate (The feed search is currently very usefull)
- Add categories to feed
I think I'll continue to use the app!
Thanks for your feedback.
We work to improve search feed (next version will improve this)
"Add categories to feed":
There collections, collections are like categories, you can group your sources.
In "your sources" screen, top right menu, you can add collections.
Then you can change the current collection by the same menu.
Testing
I have a small problem at startup, your news was empty, after refresh all is ok.
Will be nice: An option "auto refresh articles" when "your news" load
Added to request for change.
Thanks

[APP][5.0+][v0.9.0] Tag My Knowledge - Personal Knowledge Management made simple

Tag My Knowledge
Personal Knowledge Management made simple
Quickly store and categorize bits of knowledge you find in books, videos or podcasts and convert them into habits that change your life.

Hey everyone!
I love watching podcasts and CEO interviews on YouTube. However, I quickly ran into some big issues (see below).
Luckily, since I'm a developer, I can fix these for myself. The solution turned out to be pretty good, so I decided to share it
Issues that I ran into with existing solutions (ie. what this app is trying to solve)
Issue #1: Knowledge is buried under grocery lists
Originally I used Google Keep, but at some point I realized that everything below a certain "scroll threshold" was lost forever unless I specifically searched for it.
To combat this, Tag My Knowledge uses what's called spaced repetition.
By reading something 10 times with time in between, you remember it much better than If you read it 10 times in a row.
That's why Tag My Knowledge uses a feed-approach. Every day, you see random items so you subconsciously build habits out of them!
Issue #2: Note taking wasn't fast enough
Speakers talk pretty fast and while you can pause & rewind YouTube videos, it quickly becomes annoying. Even worse, you can't rewind live events.
Tag My Knowledge is optimized to keep up with that. Adding knowledge takes as few clicks possible.
That way, you never miss some important off-topic nugget never again!

The first 4 will be shown as tabs at the bottom for quick access
You can filter for tags
You can toggle feed/history mode. History mode shows all your knowledge in chronological order (within that category), feed is essentially random (algorithm behind it but whatever)
Works on multiple devices (currently only on Android & via Progressive Web App)

Huawei App Gallery (doesn't have Google login, otherwise equal. Screenshots are outdated, app isn't.)
As of right now, the app is completely free and everything that's in it will definitely stay free forever.
That being said, if there's enough interest, I'll probably create some sort of premium plan so I can continue to improve it.
I have so many ideas on how to improve this, but I can't afford to invest my life into it without being able to pay my rent.
Please comment below and let me know what you think about it
Specifically, these are the question on my mind right now:
- Is this useful to you at all?
- What solution are you currently using, if any?
- I would use this, if ...
Have a great day!

Basically a good idea, but why do we need an account for it? I'd rather keep my notes local. If need be, put them in a folder to sync via the preferred solution (e.g. NextCloud).
Thanks for the feedback!
I thought about that as well, but in the end I decided against it for a few reasons:
- The app is built for simplicity and having to set up your own sync solution would go against that
- Synchronization between mobile & web versions can never be completely seamless & instant when relying on cloud storage providers or custom solutions. I also found this way too easy to mess up on both sides.
- Local-only data is inherently lost when you lose your phone. This is obvious, but originally I was the only person I developed for and I constantly softbrick/switch/factory reset/upgrade my device so I'd rather not risk that or take the time to do manual export/import
I also have a lot of features planned which simply aren't possible (or become incredibly tedious) when the database is local.
- A twitter bot to tag knowledge automatically when you @ it (similar to readwise.io).
- In-app knowledge sharing (if I get the chance, I'd build some optional social media features into the app). For example you could share your knowledge in exchange for a custom email feed of other people's knowledge that could be interesting for you
- A chrome extension

Right, that does sound interesting and well thought-through. But in the end of the day that approach is exactly *not* what I am looking for. Thanks anyway.
