Do you know if there is anything on an android device (I use an s7) that can uniquely identify it to a web server.
My friends like to place sports bets on my device and many bookmakers don't allow multiple people to bet from the same device, so is there a way they can tell the same device has been used?
I'm aware the ip needs to be changed and this isn't an issue for me.

Other than IP and cookies, try using private/incognito mode. Can't think what else could be used to detect a device.

Hello all
I've been reading this forum for some months now and i like the windows'es and informations i've found here on my Hermes device
But now i have some questions on using the often integrated tool field test.
I've found out that with the IMSI-catcher (german wikipedia as one of the sources), that are more and more often used semi-legal by the police(here in europe there are a lot of 'GA-90' devices sold to the police and other institutions), it is possible to listen to phone calls(man in the middle attack), by just 'emulating' the strongest phone-cell in the area, to which the device connects instead of connecting to the provider's cell.
I also read that it would be possible to find out if there was an imsi-catcher device active in the area near you or not. The only thing needed is a special monitor software (field test?) that observes the MNC(Mobile Network Codes) behavior(appearently you need 2 handy's from the same provider with the monitoring software running).
But they didn't explain exactly on which behavior you should pay attention.
Since I could use 2 windows mobile devices to test this out, I am searching for more detailled information on this subject, and the first place that came in my mind was xda-developers
I allready did search this forum for the subject imsi catcher, and the only thing I've found is this.

so one person who tries to change hies imei number, and another one who doesn't seem to know exactly what an imsi catcher can do.

I know that where I live, there are pple who make abuse with IMSI-catchers(catching calls without the permission from a judge or similar, or even one time someone listening to his girlfriends phone calls to see if she's cheating(and she did and that was the reason he left her))And yes this one was a young policeman who told that to his friends and even was proud of it.
I also dislike the fact that the handy, instead of the encrypted one with the provider's cell, has an non encrypted connection to the imsi catcher(if not there would be no possibility for a listening man in the middle attack).

Appearently they do allways have encrypted conversations even through an Imsi-catcher. But if that would be true, the other side will need the same handy to decrypt it again. Because it has to encrypt, the allready encrypted data traffic with the provider's cell, if not it can't allow any protection against IMSI -Catcher devices. I also ask myself if, depending on where u want to use it, the 2nd encryption could produce a to huge phone traffic that could result p.ex. in a robot voice...
Anyone who could light me up?
Or is there any software able of reencrypting the encrypted transfer on windows mobile devices?technically it should be possible(2nd phone dialer installed so you choose the normal one for normal calls and 2nd one for calls with pple who also have this software installed on their phones)perhaps not with an 256 bit encryption but perhaps with a 128 or 64 bit encryption...
BTW, if there would be anyone able to programm such a hot piece of software for windows mobile devices I wouldn't have any problem to donate him with paypal, and i suppose other pple would do the sameAnd no I don't wanna replace that by Voip or skype via HTC...

And since i could try it in different major 'cities' over here, i suppose catching a imsi catcher soon or later
I'm quite curios if all the pple, telling that there is a lot of abuse with these machines, are right, or if that's all nonsens...
It would be nice if a warning icon could be integrated into Windows Mobile or the dialer to indicate that a call is not being encrypted. Read the Wikipedia entry for IMSI-catcher for more info. I'm guessing CDMA is largely unaffected since the hole seems to rely on the UMTS spec's backward-compatibility with GSM.
I'd also like to note that Skype is the way to go for true endpoint to endpoint call encryption. You know, if you're a gangster or something and need to brush off the popos. It would be interesting to investigate whether the WM6 integrated VOIP stack requires authentication/encryption.
Hi all,
In the app I'm developing I will need to be able to send arbitrary files (probably many at a time) to known and previously paired bt-enabled devices. Is there any way to bypass the discovery dialogue and the devices list by somehow providing a registered intent with the address of a device, say, through a putExtra call? In other words, I will already know the bt mac addresses, so I won't be needing the extra discovery and user input.
Downloading an alternative bt app that is capable of this would also work for me. So far I've tried to use the services offered by both "androbex" and "bluetooth file transfer" but with no luck.
I'm developing for a Samsung Tab, android-8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello geniuses, ( and I mean that literally, you guys are amazing) I have Direct TV and just got my hands on there Cinema connection kit witch allows me to connect to an internet source wireless-ly. Anywho, the error I am getting is asking for my default gateway, and my DNS, and that is way over my head. Can anyone assist? I am running a rooted Turbo. Thanks in advance!

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
It's unclear what Android-related specific problem you have but if by "Turbo" you mean a Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo, there is a forum specifically for questions about that device at http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/help where you may want to ask Turbo-related questions.
That said, if the Direct TV device simply needs information about your internet connection, you would need to know the address of your WIFI router (it'll be something like "192.168.0.1") and your default DNS server (maybe "8.8.8.8" for Google DNS?), something whoever installed your internet connection should be able to provide.
If all else fails, try posting with all relevant details in the general forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general where someone might be familiar with your specific situation.

I appreciate your reply... and yes I was referring to the droid trubo. The internet service I am referring to, however, is my Turbos hotspot. I figured anyone running 4.4 or 5.1, no matter the device could possibly help. I know its possible, and I came very close last night to getting my Direct TV to connect to my phones hotspot. Everything else in my house is connected to my phone, not sure why this won't. I am certain its an address issue, and the default gateway and DNS is the culprit.

Hello again.
If you are connecting though your phone's hotspot feature, then you have to use its address. That information depends on your phone, ROM and which and how many other devices are on the local network you establish, among other factors, but it's probably in the "198.162.?.?" range mentioned earlier and you can probably set "8.8.8.8" (Google) as your DNS provider. One simple way to determine your default gateway's address is to use whatever other phone, tablet, or computer you connect to that hotspot and execute a "traceroute" command. The first entry will be the gateway. I'm afraid I can't tell you how to do that specifically for your device/OS but most all operating systems have a similar command.

Hi guys, I change my device, my public dynamic IP address, account, username, password, email, browser, app, cookies and everything and again Instagram knows it's me, and my question was do you know that can IG spot public dynamic IPs are coming from the same person or they know me another way?
what was strange was that I used fresh new device and changed all things mentioned above with no success (while on a new dynamic IP) but when using a VPN or Proxy it works so my guess was they exactly know all dynamic IPs are coming from the same person! does any body know how they can do that?

Based on exact suggestions tailored for me I am sure they know it's me each time. (I register with different data but what is shown is same as past)
I am using a WIFI dynamic IP not mobile data. (can latter be a different experience?)
I know of device and browser fingerprinting but because I change everything I don't think it's the case.
this case only affects me not people in my region so it's not related to geolocation which is rough and not exact.
what Instagram does is illegal in this case, considering tracking this way without knowledge of the user.

On PC i'm using Portmaster from https://safing.io/
It's a replacement for the windows firewall but also works on linux, this program gives me control over my device by letting me monitor ALL network traffic of the computer.
It has builtin filterlists to block tracking and malware, i can block specific programs indivudaly but also add urls like www.google-analytics.com to a custom blocklist.
The best part about this program is that you can use the settings to block all connections by default and then only allow those programs to connect to the internet that you need.
A must have in my opinion.
I haven't found anything on the level of portmaster for android, if anyone knows similar apps/programs/software to what i have described above i would really thankful if you can share it!
PS: This https://f-droid.org/de/packages/dnsfilter.android/ is all i found for android, however i'm still interested to alternatives.
