Redmi 4 is a mid-end device released by Xiaomi (along with 4A, 4 Prime) in November 2016. The device itself is very similar to Redmi 3S in every aspect, expect it has a few improvement to some components. (For example the Wi-Fi, where 5GHz connection is now possible)
Device specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_4-8419.php
Available official ROMs: http://en.miui.com/download-318.html
Rooting only possible via official unlock (There is no known method for unofficial unlock)
No official Global ROM was released yet.

Unfortunately no
There is a Global ROM available from the official MIUI site, but it has in-calling bugs, and is not released officially.

Redmi 4 just got it's very own subforum!!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/xiaomi-redmi-4

Can somebody please give his QCN file from Redmi 4? I need to fix my baseband and IMEI... Thank you.

Clean android....
Hello, i'm new user on this forums. I have very big problem with my device.
I got second model of Redmi 4, first one had malfunction of SIM module (after instaling CM 13), and device wasnt detecting SIM's at all (what more interesting SD cards was detected) on both slots. After service i got brand new Redmi 4, installed CyanogenMod 13 as only properly working OS* and starting to have the same issue.
*So now let me explain why i threat CM 13 as only working OS - it uses battery as it should. On every MIUI (which seems to not be official) including MIUI 9 my battery just drain. For example with 1-2 hours of daily usage on CM my battery can keep 7-14 days, which is perfect resoult, while on MIUI even unused device is keeping max 4 days, and battery usage says Android OS and android (process names) eat 40 % of battery (sometimes up to 56%). I'm installing OS by full wipe, so its not the case of files remaining from older OS.
NOW final question to all specialists here - from where can i get CELAN ANDROID MARSHMALOW or NOUGAT for my model (Redmi 4 prada)? Installation as i understand properly is the same as in case of ROM right (TWRP) or maybe flash?
Please answear, i'm looking over internet 2 months right now, and spending all my free time after job on unsuccessfull searching for help.

Hello,
After I flashed my phone to MIUI 9 (can't remember which one - so many I tried), I got the success message on MiFlashTool, but my phone didn't restart. It was dead.
I mananged to revive it but I had lost many sensors, like wi-fi, bluetooth, etc. I managed to fix those and then I was getting an error about IMEI (can't ID the device) or something like that. Basically my IMEI was gone. I found a fix for that. The phone can now detect the SIM card.
My issue is that it can't connect to the GSM network of my carrier.
I double checked the APN settings - they are good. When I dial *#*#4636#*#* I see the 'turn radio on' button but it doesn't do anything.
Switching back and forth between different versions of MIUI did not help. I tried flashing the NON HLOS bin file via command prompt, I got the okay message, but it didn't fix the problem. I tried flashing the 3 modem files via TWRP, again, it didn't fix my problem.
They talk about restoring EFS on a thread, but I don't know how to do that or if that will help. I don't have the back up files anyways for EFS.
Can anyone help?
Currently I am on CyanogenMod 13 (OS 6.0.1).
Thanks
Andrei

Wow, you really mess up bro...
Let's see... First I advise you to flash the official fastboot ROM from the official forum and see if boot normaly.
If not, you can try unbrick the phone by 'test points'.

Hey
Thanks. The phone boots normally, everything works except for the radio. All commands for the radio can't be changed. If I do *#*#4636 phone information, I see my SIM Card, it shows my carrier (Rogers). WHen I click the 3 little buttons to select the band it shows unknown and lists a few options, including the one I think it the one I need (GSM 850/1900 - i'm in Canada). When I select that band it shows unsuccessful....What can it be?

I must admit that is out of my league.. Sorry
You saying the radio is turned off and can't receive calls? You don't have signal?
In the 'Phone Information', in the button of the page, there is a option that say 'Turn Radio On/OFF', try it.
But... You say you have some modem files, right? If is the same I used when I change to a custom ROM, maybe can help. Try flashing that files in TWRP.

Sorry, I remember now one thing...
Which fastboot ROM you use? China Stable or Dev?
Try use the Dev ROM and in Miflashtool, select 'Clean All' option.
Hope this work

Then only by test points, don't see any other options.. At least for now..

What is the benefit of using test points vs fastboot?
Thanks

Well... The test points is more for when the phone is really mess up, phone don't boot, not enter the 'fastboot', etc... normally know as 'hard brick'. It's the "ultimate" recovery.
In the PM I send to you, there is a link to a post in the official forum explaining where, and 'how to' do.
But... If you are not comfortable doing that, then, don't do.
Anyway... I can't help you more, sorry
Try asking in the official forum for help. They are more active than here.

Discuss how best to install the CM12 alpha modem.
Do the rest of us a favour, do it here in this thread, instead of clogging up every lollipop development" thread.
In my experience the best way of sorting problems like wifi issues, proximity failures and dialler problems is just try these.
1. OPO_L5_alpha-modem-flashable.zip
2. cm-12-nightly-modem-flashable.zip
3. cm-12-20150106-NIGHTLY-bacon.zip
Option 3 worked for me! Personally I would recommend all concerned to do this. Yes it takes longer, but in my personal experience it worked. I dont know why, I suspect it has to do with it flashing more than just the modem, but it did for me. I dont have these problems anymore so....
End of my contribution. Just discuss here, not in every development thread for opo on xda endlessly please.
Developer advice. Refer all q's of this nature to this thread.
TOP TIP "For MultiRom users a simple trick for this is to add/use a dummy secondary rom and use that one to do these fresh flashes as to save some time (no need for cache rebuilt on your already installed rom etc.). Afterwards that dummy can just be deleted if the space is needed." Thanks go to tobitege for this.

+1. I also flashed the latest official CM nightly, booted it and checked if everything was working and then flashed the latest unofficial Temasek's rom. Everything works fine.
Cheers
@zaphodbeeb: thanks for having created this!
This morning I tested an extended version of the CM-12 flashable zip containing more partitions of the current nightlies.
First test brought me a jackpot in that it flashed without an error message, but soft bricked my phone (black screen, no adb nor fastboot), but power button rebooted in a special mode "HUSB_BULCK" (viewable in device manager). Takin' up the challenge, so after plenty of searching/reading and multiple tries to install the right drivers, I got it going through Color OS installation with special phone flashing tool, then flashing X44 again, unlocking, custom recovery+rooting... that was (deserved) fun!!
Though in the first moments it scared me s***tless!
Long story short, totally agree to just flashing the full nightly and directly clean on top any LP rom you want, if you want to be sure to have it right.
FWIW I flashed the alpha modem.zip after flashing and booting SlimLP ROM. Worked fine, absolutely no problems.

So first flash the 3rd zip (cm12 nightly)
Then dirty flash the main Rom or whats the next step?
Thank you
The full nightly should be flashed first, then wipe clean in recovery and install your actual rom (or restore).
So, I have been looking at every single rom since xmas and I haven't yet taken the plunge.
I keep hearing about the modem flash, and while I am not scared at any flashing, I am a bit unsure what happens with the modem flash.
Are all the bands in this alpha modem flash? Can I expect my phone to able to make calls and connect to 4G (LTE) / 3G (UMTS and HSPA+) afterwards?
I do apoligize for me being somewhat retarded in this regard..

I went for number 3. Did a backup of my temasek ROM. Did a full wipe and installed cm nightly. Had full signal and thought great, this is the right modem. Restored my temasek and signal is gone again.
Any idea why? Did I restore too much of my temasek? Boot, system and data.
Thanks
It might just need another reboot after initial restore to reconnect.
I seem to have no issues with cell data on the new modem (running CM12 nightly) but the WiFi sucks. Is this part of the modem or the ROM? Frequently disconnects to my home WiFi and range seems worse than CM11. Hopefully this will be fixed in a modem update soon.

Not sure what to tell you. I have no WiFi problems. SlimLP ROM
So I just recovered from a hard brick with a dead battery.... it was brutal. I'm looking to do things more carefully going forward. I'd like to keep CM11S as primary. But obviously I want lollipop asap. If I backup CM11S nandroid... wipe clean, flash CM12 nightly for the modem and such, and then clean wipe and restore CM11S to primary from nandroid... will the modem changes that CM12 nightly made persist? I'd like that.... then I could flash some lollipop roms as secondaries and benefit from the modem changes that cm12 made?
The CM11S and the current CM-12 nightlies both contain the full phone partitions when flashing, so when you flash either of them you'll get that version's full modem package.
For MultiRom users a simple trick for this is to add/use a dummy secondary rom and use that one to do these fresh flashes as to save some time (no need for cache rebuilt on your already installed rom etc.). Afterwards that dummy can just be deleted if the space is needed.

You will notice the subtle message added to my sig also, using simple large letters for those with limited reading abilities.

I Think I Might Have Ruined My Moto G...

Hey, everyone. This is probably going to be pretty long-winded. I do apologize, but also ask that you read carefully and thoroughly before posting.
Pertinent Information:
Model: XT1032
Carrier: Consumer Cellular
Background Information:
A long while back I decided to root my phone so I could remove all of the useless applications I never used that just ate up what limited space this phone has. Everything went successfully.
A couple (or maybe a few) months ago I noticed that Android 5.1 was available for install. I wasn't aware that you needed to remove root access before doing an OTA update, and proceeded to brick my phone. I then followed a guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700502) to flash back to stock firmware, thus removing root access, and afterwards, applied the OTA update successfully.
What I didn't notice was that the guide was for the XT1033, but, the phone still worked just fine. I could make / send and receive calls / texts, use my WiFi, etc. The only issues were that my data didn't seem to work at all, and my phone's internal memory was about 80% full, and only ~500MB of that was from my downloaded applications... Weird, right?
New Information:
Today I decided I was going to do a factory reset. I was no longer able to update or download applications because the Google Play Store would stop responding every single time. Also, I was sick of my phone's memory being so full, for seemingly no reason. Well, the factory reset failed to complete, and left my phone bricked; it wouldn't go past the unlocked bootloader warning screen.
I then did some research and fiddling around with a new guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/gpe-ota-lrx21z-5-0-1-xt1033-xt1032-t2969847). After following the instructions, which I found to be quite confusing, actually), I ended up back on Android 4.4.4, with a non-functional network. I used the XT1032 US GSM modem he linked in Step 6, since my phone's from the US, but maybe it was the wrong one? I also tried some different modems / radios from the linked posts in that part of the guide, but they didn't work either.
So, I followed a new guide for installing Lollipop 5.1 GPE via a 1-click batch file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/gpe-lollipop-5-1-1click-installer-t3075522), and it seemed to work... Except my network no longer worked; the phone wasn't recognizing my SIM card. I tried downloading and installing a couple of different US XT1032 modems / radios to no avail.
Next, I took a shot in the dark and flashed back to the Android 5.0.2 XT1033 firmware from before, and now, it works fine... Kind of. The network functions again like it it did before, and the memory is pretty much empty (4.61GB of 5.55GB free) as it should be. The only problem is that the Android 5.1 OTA update has failed twice now, and the phone's not rooted again yet.
My Questions:
1) Why is my network functioning on an XT1033 firmware when my phone's an XT1032, yet on an XT1032 firmware it doesn't function?
2) Why can I suddenly not do the Android 5.1 OTA update like I could before?
3) Why did the Lollipop 5.1 GPE 1-click method leave me with a non-functioning network?
4) Why was my memory so full the last time I installed the Android 5.0.2 XT1033 firmware, yet now it's empty like it should be?
I'm beyond confused right now, and trying very, very hard not to throw my phone into the lake (which I can from the window right in front of me). I just want to use the latest version of Android, NOT have my phone's memory be ridiculously full, and have a functional network.
Have you tried installing CyanogenMod? https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=nightly&device=falcon you're going to need a custom recovery I use twrp https://dl.twrp.me/xt1032/
Also need a GApps package I use the Micro Modular Package http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/tk-gapps-t3116347

Do you happen to have a link to such a Baseband? Because I don't know too much about this stuff.
Is the Baseband the NON-HLOS.bin and/or fsg.mbn file(s)? If so, I have a couple of XT1032 firmwares of various Android versions; can I use one of them?
WHOA! I HAVE SERVICE!
On a whim, I decided to try flashing an XT1032 Baseband based on what I thought the files were, and it worked!
What I Did:
1) Flashed NON-HLOS.bin and fsg.mbn from a US_Retail_XT1032_KXB21.14-L1.32_CFC.xml.zip file I have.
2) Fastboot erased modemst1 and modemst2, then rebooted; voila!
I wasn't sure or not if those were the Baseband files, but I figured I couldn't make things any worse, lol.
EDIT: I'm still on the latest version of CyanogenMod at the moment, which also has the latest version of Lollipop.

I've heard that before. Fastboot flashing a full firmware image might help to get it back to "XT1032". But I wouldn't do that, if everything else works fine

Well, thank you so much, man! Now I've got everything working, AND I'm loving CyanogenMod so far too.
1) I'm on Android 5.1.1
2) I've got CyanogenMod
3) My memory isn't super full
4) My service works
The only weird thing is when I plug my phone into my computer, it says "XT1033." Then, in my phone's settings (About Phone > Device Model) it says "Moto G." Lol.

Find your provider's APN data and create a new APN entry in the settings.
Maybe those will work -> http://bestmvno.com/apn-settings/apn-settings-for-consumer-cellular/

I had to do some digging to find where and how to change APN Settings in my phone, but once I found them, I was a little shocked; there are a lot of them! There's a list of about 15 different APNs in my phone!
That seemed a little unusual, so I looked for a way to reset them or something, and found a thread that talked about how to delete their database file with a Root Explorer. I went ahead and did so, then rebooted my phone, to find that they had all come back! Then I discovered you can reset them to default right from the APN Settings page; I did that, but they were all still there, LOL.
I'll give these a try, but I'm not expecting them to work, honestly. Perhaps I need to call my carrier and see if they can help me out. Although, if I tell them I rooted and flashed my phone, they probably won't.

After restart device quickly double press power button then unlock your phone if locked..It's work for me
Not sure how effective is this method. But worth giving a try partially worked for me.
Based on few posts I came across claiming for working VoLTE.
Note:- Quite a lenthy and time consuming method
Prerequisite :- 1) Stock MARSHMALLOW
2) Stock NOUGAT
3) MIUI
4) TWRPAccording to these posts if you flash MIUI over the Stock nougat(not the soak test) VOLTE should work fine.
Doing so will loose the fingureprint functionality (since it requires stock MARSHMALLOW).
Again doubting on the Volte but I got my fingerprint sensor working(flashed over nougat soak test).
Give a try to this.
[*]1) Backup your Data.
[*]2) Downgrade to Stock MARSHMALLOW.
[*]3) Install TWRP
[*]4) Flash MIUI.
[*]5) Complete Intial setup and configure fingureprint sensor (you will be unable to modify afterwards hence configure as many figures as you want).
[*]6) Go to TWRP backup (MIUI) this rom(Store it on external drive or sd card).
[*]7) Again Downgrade to MARSHMALLOW.
[*]8) Upgrade to Stock Nougat (not the soak test one)
[*]9) Install TWRP
[*]10) Restore (MIUI)
Hopefully this should work. (I didnt tried on Stock Nougat but on Nougat soak test Fingureprint sensor is working properly)

So I need some help and I'm hoping someone here can help.
I've tried, probably 5 or 6 times to flash this rom, but to no avail.
Every time I flash it it says "no sim card"and I know there is an issue with the SIM card error, it's been mentioned many times here. However when I do go into the settings, and I go into "about phone, under "SIM card settings" it shows "no SIM card". During initial set up, I get a pop-up that says 'IMEI cannot be verified." It also says "unknown" for network status (in sim settings). I have no data connection, nor does the phone connect whatsoever (I tried calling a few numbers; no luck).
I've tried flashing just the MIUI rom after a full wipe (including system, dalvik, cache and data) - no luck.
I've tried flashing from both MM and N rom's, doing only a cache and data wipe - no luck there either.
I'd really like to be able to get this rom going on my phone.
Any help or advice is much appreciated. Please, and thank you.

You just have to reboot one time when you have this issue and then, you can achieve setup wizzard.

Unofficial Cyanogenmod 13 / Android 6.0.1 - Lenovo A850
This is a CM13 rom for our Lenovo A850. This is NOT MY WORK, I found it on this russian forum/post. Unfortunately, i couldn't find further information about the developer since I read the forum through google translate
This is a pure android 6.0.1 and not a looklike rom.
Code:
#include
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
Photos:
Bugs: My problems are...
• I have tried installing Magisk and SuperSu without success (because CM13 is already rooted)
• Lattest Xposed libraried are not working (old may not too)
• Can't always get into recovery using both volume and power buttons (go through the power menu)
• When in the recovery and rebooting into system the phone closes (unplug the batery and reboot it)
• Default (CM) file-manager sometimes craches (for no reason)
• Reboot just powers down the device
• DO NOT INSTALL GRENIFY, you will get into bootloop
• Did you found anything else? Do you know how we can fix the above?
Instructions:
0. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP! This ROM doesn't do well with you NVRAM... You will probably need to restore your IMEI, your Serial Number would be lost, your Mac Address etc. So... backup.
1. Download the "Lenovo A850 cm13.rar" file from here (there is also a CM12 version, i haven't try it)
2. Google Apps are not installed so you can download them from the Open Gapps Project (ARM->6.0->Any version) or from the above link.
3. Un-rar the "Lenovo A850 cm13.rar" file. The TWRP recovery that is included is translated in Russian (can't change to English) so replace the "recovery.img" file with this View attachment recovery.img that i have cooked (English version).
4. Flash the rom to your phone (there are a lot of videosout there about this)
5. Boot phone and BOOM, CM13/Android 6.0.1!!!!
6. To enable root access or reboot to recovery, open Settings->About->Tap "Build number" many times to unlock Developer Options->go back->Developer Options->Check "Advance reboot" and change "Root access"
7. Keep pressing power button -> reboot -> recovery -> flash Gapps
IMEI Problems/Fixes:
You can fix the IMEI with:
- With MobileUncle (follow these steps)
- Tool Hero (the update of MobileUncle), after that uninstall it.
- Else... if you don't know that you can run IMEI&SN Writer V1.5.3, flash this ROM and try to run it (setup drivers etc). Then FORMAT the phone (with flashtool click format, auto), and flash (click download this time) this ROM(the same with the first link), and then change the IMEI etc with IMEI&SN Writer V1.5.3.

Yes I am already using it, well not daily since its not my main phone. Flashtool is included so it doesn't mater what rom you already have (ROW or CN), you just flash it. I think the ROM is CN though. Additionally, i have tried installing Magisk or SuperSu without a success because CM13 is already rooted. I couldn't change it. What is more, lattest Xposed libraried are not working too (phone freezes and reboots on apk open). Also, i couldn't get into recovery using volume and power button, i am accessing it through the power menu (reboot into recovery). To conclude, when I am in the recovery and I choose to reboot into system the phone closed but I have to unplug the batery and reboot it.
how about battery life?

I'm also using it (also not my daily device) and overall seems to work no major issues at the moment. I'm happy with the default root and options so I have no conflict with magisk/xposed. I just use the root to remove bloatware and to "tabletize" the phone (freeze sms/telephone/mobile data functions, but can be unfreezed if I need phone functions back again)
I have flashed gapps (pico/customized) version and there is FC if you replace stock clock and messenger with gapps version.
Also battery, this phone without network and screen working (and several apks) disables use to work for some days. Now the battery goes off in 1 day, even if not using. I will try to troubleshoot the culprit.
In lenovo's firmware it had an auto power on-off function that dissapears on this new rom.
Just some further investigation on this rom:
IMEIs are gone, and I am unable to restore them with the typical methods. I will keep on trying
It seems that the battery is drained by "Cell standby" (phone contacting telephony antennas) which is weird, because it has no sim, it's on airplane mode and I have frozen all apks related to phone/mobile data. But looking at the log and at the battery statistics, it's trying to do something with cell data. Also if I go to Phone test and try to "turn radio off", it ignores the click on the button.
I'll try a couple more things but my feeling is that something is wrong on the data system that is linked to the battery drain.
By the way, I have read on the russian forum (source of this post) that cm12 seems to work ok, but I don't want to go to an older version. I'll keep it as a last resource.

I do not have problems with the battery. DO NOT INSTALL GRENIFY, you will get into bootloop. You can fix the IMEI with Tool Hero (the update of MobileUncle). CM12 didn't work for me but there seems to be more users there...
I have tried all the common ways to restore IMEI: Hero, Mtk Droid tools, flashable zips (with/without nvram clear), imei generator and replacing files, changing permissions on /data/nvram, dd from a backup nvram.bin... nothing seems to work. I'm considering reflashing full rom again, just in case something went wrong during flashing.
I have also found a flashable modem firmware, doesn't work either.
Not quite fan of hero though, asks for too many permissions. Don't really get the point of the permissions to read contacts.
Regarding greenify I tried to install but it FC every time. Uninstalled without rebooting, so thanks for the advice. If you have no problem with battery and IMEI, I'm even more convinced that both problems are related.

I don't like tool hero too, but it did fix my IMEI problem. (I always deny most of the permissions it ask, and then uninstall). Nothing else worked (terminal, recovery, adb).
Battery seems fine here. I have to mention that my charging circuit has major problems. I use the phone daily now and I have 2 batteries charging them with cables.
Well, finally I have decided to re-flash, following the instructions of greatapo at the first post (I'm pretty sure I did the same last time).
In the middle I also flashed lollipop as suggested in the russian forum but I have little confidence that this had any impact.
The point is that phone has "magically" recovered IMEIs (like they were hidden somewhere) and battery usage is back to normal. Before, I had a slope of power comsumption due to cell network even on plane mode. Now, when the phone is idling consumption is flat.
I can recall that this phone (at least my device) had a strange behaviour: When it has been powered off for a while it didn't power on. But if I boot for recovery or keep it on, then it boots perfectly. This time I had it "heating up" before flashing (just in case something similar happens to any of you).
Booting taking too long!
I flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool (latest). I end up my phone taking too long to boot. I am until now seeing a CynogenMod Marshmallow and some ripple effect behind it
Please. Anybody, tell me the real and proper way to get this ROM working on my Lenovo A850 (step-by-step). Explain Step 4 please.
I am super interested on this ROM!

Did you flash ROM+GAPPS successfully? I recently successfully flashed ROM. I tried to flash GAPPS using TWRP but after powering on my Lenovo a850, i always get 2 error message which is (Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped working" (the most) and "Unfortunately, Google play services has stopped working". What now? Did I flashed it wrongly? Can you state how you flash GAPPS please?

Colors/screen messed up after flashing LineageOSMicroG (HELP)

So I unlocked, rooted, and flashed my first android and ran into this problem. I bought another G7 Power and ran into the exact same problem.
The screen/colors are all messed up.

I'm trying to retrace my steps to determine where I went wrong.
So first I try to check if the bootloader is properly unlocked. Here I run into problems.
First I tried dialing *#*#7378423#*#* but soon as I dial the last "#" the screen just goes blanc. So that didn't work
Second I tried "fastboot oem device-info" in ADB & Fastboot
So that didn't work either.
How can I determine if the bootloader is properly unlocked?
For a temporary fix,
go into the 'Display' menu in settings,
under 'Advanced' click on 'Colors' and select a different color scheme.
You can also go back to the original after that if so desired.
This fixes it for me until the next reboot.
Didn't happen with LOS 17.1, started seeing this when I went to LOS 18.1

I also found this problem. However, the remedy given as 'settings -> Display -> Advanced -> Colours -> Cycle between the Natural, Boosted and Saturated options fixed it for me until I rebooted the phone. Makes me wonder if there are some lines of coding that could be looked at with the controls of these options. Hope one of you clever guys can find a solution. Otherwise - Android 11 is working fine. Running LineageOS18.1. Thanks in advance. Ron
Looks like the problem was fixed with the LineageOS update on 10th May 2021.
Same here, no more color problems. But now I lost my modem. No cellular connection, SIM not recognized.
Edit:
Installed 2021-05-15 update OTA and cellular network came back.
Guess it could either be that the 2021-05-08 release was bad (or something went wrong during OTA)
or maybe one of my slots (a or b) has bad modem info and I will lose network with every other update.
We'll see.
As of the LineageOS18.1 May 15th 2021 update, I lost control of my SIM, the system saying that the SIM could not be found. A hard reset did not fix this either so I started afresh with boot into TWRP and wiped everything, then re-installed the first LineageOS18.1 I had downloaded to my sdcard. Voila! the system then found my SIM card again, but then when I allowed the system to upgrade to the 15th May 2021 release my SIM detection failed again! I have the wifi connection but am stumped as to what to do next. My contract is due for renewal in June 2021 so I think I'll buy a second hand Samsung instead. Any further advice anyone?

Similar to what I wrote in the comment before yours. My phone is a XT1955-5
Was on May 1st release. Lost SIM with the May 8th. Came back with the May 15th.
So it shouldn't be the May 15th release itself.
Based on what I read in a Reddit comment it could be that the modem code in one of my/our slots is bad.
I will try and confirm that by waiting for the next 2 releases to be out. Should then be such that when I install the next release I would lose SIM and with the second release get it back.
If that's the case I'll see if I can fix that without a wipe, phone is too important right now. If not I'll just live with it and only install 2 updates right after each other.
I had the same problem, somehow it works now with the new 20210515 and the old 20210508.
I suspect it has something to do with slot_a/slot_b and the respective modem bin, see my posts
here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gps-not-working.4261437/
I have a XT1955-4, EU. My recollection of what I did is:
1. Flash 18.1 20210501. Modem and GPS does not work
2. Flashed modem from the original stock image like described here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...nbrick-your-moto.3042687/page-6#post-80052655
3. GPS/Modem works
4. Updated to 20210508. Modem gone again.
5. Tried to flash the modem stuff again, nothing works
6. Discovered that I had forgotten to do the copypartitons part from the installation.
7. Flashed 20210501 to slot_a again, reflashed modem stuff
8. copypartions (apparently over to slot_b) / everything works like in 3
9. update to 20210508 (apparetnly to slot_b). Modem/GPS works
10. Update to 20210515, Modem/GPS works. (Microphone issue though)
Hope this helps anybody. I guess all this flasjhing could brick the phone, but it worked for me.
This issue with the messed up colours has showed up for a friend of mine as of November 2021. It is a G7 Power Dual SIM 4MB 64GB version running LineageOS 18.1
I haven't got the phone with me at this moment, but I'm happy to go to the LineageOS18.1 thread and include a logcat when I can.
Further device details to add from my comment yesterday. The Moto G7 Power is an XT1955-7
It's running the official vanilla build of LOS by @SyberHexen @erfanoabdi @npjohnson from here
The colour glitches usually appear a minute or two after reboot and after locking then unlocking the screen. Worth mentioning is I can't reproduce this screen glitch in bootloader and recovery modes.
I'm interested in the technical reason for this glitch because the image artifacts are interesting.
Attached are some photos of the phone.
sliding the RGB adjusters appear to behave normally.
Here's a picture of how a rainbow coloured wallpaper image appears when the glitch is present
Here's the original image as it should appear
The workaround solution from comment number 3 in this thread works for this device.

Looks like the problem was fixed with the LineageOS update on 10th May 2021.

Nope it wasn't fixed. I have the newest update and its still there. My screen colors are " flickering" as I type this.
The problem is still there on the G7 Power that I just flashed with lineage-18.1-20220312-nightly-ocean-signed.
I also get the flickering. The fix from post 3 seems to fix it till next reboot.
