Just to be sure, you are running this in as an Administrator command window, correct?
It's bricked... Nothing is writing to the internal storage and everything is coming back FAILED. Seen a few of these recently, if it was a different error we might be able to do something but doing 'fastboot oem fb_mode_set' should never give an error.

That's what I was wondering. And yes I am running Administrator Command Window.
I am just keeping my fingers crossed that someone can help me resolve the issue.

[frustration free] restore to stock firmware moto g all versions

Hello Folks:
This comes after a bit of struggle to get this Moto G XT1132 Retail version to stock. For some weird reason the phone refused to boot after factory wipe via CWM..That shouldn't have happened in the first case. But **** happens and that's XDA helps the troubled users. There is still shortage of complete toolkits with full features around for Moto G not privileged like Nexus 4 or Nexus 5 yet..
Symptoms :
1. Moto G refuse to start and STUCK at boot / bootloop.
2. Normal fastboot commands upsets you by not flashing system.img or any other stock firmware files.
Solution:
1. Edit the RETAIL-GB_4.4.2_KLB20.9-1.10-1.9_cid7_CFC_1FF_v5_SVC.txt (its an xml file though) as attached with this post.(You just need to remove one line from the top; don't worry if your .xml looks different from this one; as I have taken this as an example)
2. Get your firmware from here : http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
3. Download the flash.txt file from this post rename it to flash.bat (its very important) put this in the extracted folder of your firmware.
4. Copy all the fastboot files in the extracted firmware folder along with the flash.bat
5. Rename the fastboot.exe to > fastboot-moto-windows.exe
6. Put your Moto G to bootloader mode
7. Click on the flash.bat file which is in the firmware extracted folder. It will do its stuff and may take few seconds. When the script stops just reboot the phone. And you are back to stock with no bootloop.
NOTE: You are on your own. I take no responsibility for any device getting bricked or whatsoever.
I take NO Credit for this and I have just gathered this information from various forums including XDA. I have just tried to put them at one place to make it Frustration Free...
If I helped you Hit the Thanks button down there...
I specially thank tillaz for the batch file which is a key tool to fix the mess
Good Luck

I think so. Just give a shot. if it doesnt work then just replace the stock firmware from GB to DE. Alles Beste!
it gives me the same as the original method " < waiting for device > "
i have made a full swipe to the phone, cleaned the previous custom rom already, and a have cwm recovery.. dont know if this info is important
DONE!! i havent put the adb files in the firmware folder, but has flashed flawlessly now!! thank you for this solution!! :good:

Yes, However you can flash to stock and just relock the bootloader and warranty is back intact.

how do I do dat?can u pls give me steps to do so..
well there are many threads explaining how to unlock bootloader, It basically consists of getting a code through adb, putting that code onto motorola website, getting the code and sending it to the phone. check the guides in the general section.
as for relocking it, is as simple as going into fastboot and typing (in adb / fastboot) fastboot oem lock.

I have tried to flash many different firmwares on it to get it out of the boot loop like "US Retail" (4.3 and 4.4.2), "Boost US" (4.3 and 4.4.2), and "Verizon US" (4.3 and 4.4.2). This always results in one of the 3 error messages or more. I have found the one that works with the least error messages is the Boost US firmware for 4.4.2 and it gives only the error message (bootloader) Failed to validate sparse image on the 3rd system file. Whenever I try to install the firmware it doesn't seem to work, and it results in the phone turning on with the Motorola logo then the phone vibrates once then turns off and repeats, or the phone shows the android logo on its back with the exclamation point after the single vibration and sits like that until it turns off a few minutes later repeating the process. I have tried everything including trying to boot normally, resetting to factory, going into recovery and wiping cache and deleting all data, and even attempting to install from ADB. I have actually successfully done this process before a few hours before trying it on this one where it ended up like this. I looked this up and apparently you can still fix the phone if it can reach the boot loader screen, but when I was working with the phone I forgot to put it in developer mode and turn on USB debugging so that might be an issue. If there is a way I could fix it that would be very helpful, but if it doesn't I can still return the phone in the next 4 days.
Thanks for the help!
Extra Info:
The phone's bootloader is locked and because it is new I do not have any backups.
Also I already have these following programs
Minimal ADB and Fastboot
RSD Lite
DFS
Mfastboot v2
r1-motog-modifiedrecoveryroot.zip
adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140321.zip
platform-tools.zip
Fastboot+ADB(20926).zip
adbfix.zip
These are all from other threads that have explained this issue but the fix they provided did not work.
Thanks Again!
Guys, I have a Moto-G that was sold to me as a XT-1032 US global GSM model. The guy who sold it to me said that after the OTA update for 4.4.2 was applied to his phone it never would see a signal again, and kept saying to turn off airplane even though it saw that a sim was installed. looking at the status it kept saying the radio was turned off. When I got it from him it was showing the unlocked bootloader message, but when I checked the status on the fastboot screen it was showing locked status 2, which indicates it had never been unlocked. I unlocked the bootloader and started trying different versions of the firmware to see if I could fix the issue, but nothing ever worked until I tried this method.
I only flashed the radio from the GB 4.4.2 version that the OP had provided the XML file for using the modified xml file he provided, and now my cell radio is working again. Since I had already voided any warranty on it, I went ahead with flashing the CWM recovery and the latest nightly for CM11 and it's working beautifully, very smooth. I had bought this for my wife if I could fix it, so now she's getting a nice upgrade from her old GSM galaxy nexus that had started developing issues where it had to be rebooted to get the radio to work again (on the stock 4.3 firmware mind you, just a hardware problem I think due to it's age)
So in short Thanks OP!!

Thanks for posting this since my phone is having these exact issues! I was a little unsure of what you meant in step 1 above, so what I did is take the sample XML which you attached to the post and replaced the software version info in the header with the version information for my carrier's firmware. Not sure if that was what I was supposed to do. Anyway, everything works great except that it is failing to flash motoboot.img. The command windows says it's a remote error- preflash validation failed, and the phone displays an error that says the version has been downgraded for tz. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Moto G X1028 issues and problems

I am a inexperienced user I am also slow and need step by step clear instructions.. I have not once ounce of a clue how to use CMD ... ok ..
I got a Moto G X1028 from a friend who said it wasn't booting up..
found out it does boot but only into Fastboot menu..
Normal power up, recovery, and factory all when clicked, make the screen go black, then a light on top of phone blinks 3 times..
Now I have gotten it to seem idk alive, when clicking the 3 choices above sometimes it randomly will ether blink 3 times or give a system failed to verify..
although sometimes when the recovery feature does go through there is a little green android laying down with a red triangle ...
I am trying to see if theres is some hope on restoring this phone through Fastboot..
The Pc recognizes the device as Fastboot falcon S but can't enter it at all ...
I am looking for a more detailed step by step on how, if possible to restore this device ..
I have attempted many tutorials all leaving me bewildered and confused ..
I have on my PC 2 roms I think thats what they are ...
philz_touch_6.57.9-falcon.img and cm-12-20150131-UNOFFICIAL-falcon.zip...
I have installed the minimal ADB and Fastboot software
and the Motorola drivers are installed and recognizes the device as 210.12.41.falcon_cdma.verizon.en.us
So I am hoping someone can help me, understand I am slow and on top of that a newb...
and bring hope that this phone can be restored to working order ..
Note: not sure if this could help it states the device is locked, Status code 0
on screen at the time of posting this is fastboot reason: volume down key pressed
usb connected, cmd: getvar:all
So:
Can this phone be restored?
Will it be a easy task?
Can it be restored if the device is locked?

and the Motorola drivers are installed and recognizes the device as 210.12.41.falcon_cdma.verizon.en.us
So I am hoping someone can help me, understand I am slow and on top of that a newb...
and bring hope that this phone can be restored to working order ..

If you have access to fastboot, it is entirely possible that you can manually restore the stock 4.4.4 ROM and recovery that way. I'll have some time in the morning where I can walk you through some steps in detail if you still need it.

Alright, let's see what we can do for you! First things first, download the XT1028 4.4.4 stock ROM from here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/5cg..._4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.41_42_release-keys.xml.zip
It's big, filefactory is slow, and that's going to take a while, so you can sit back and get up to speed on the rest of things while that is in progress. The next thing you need to do is head over to the following thread and read through the first post. You will be following the process for firmware downloaded in xml.zip format: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
It sounds to me like you have done at least a solid portion of the prerequisites for this, but you can run through the list to make sure. You might want to download and install the Motorola drivers (Prerequisite 'a') if you haven't already, and you'll want to get the mfastboot-v2.zip package (Prerequisite 'c'). Once you have everything downloaded and the drivers/adb/fastboot stuff installed, the basic idea here is that we are going to take the original stock firmware piece by piece and manually install it using the phone's fastboot mode. If it works correctly, it will completely replace whatever corrupted ROM and recovery files are on your device presently and may allow you to actually boot up the phone into Android 4.4.4 KitKat at a factory default condition.
Find and locate the place where you installed adb and fastboot. On my own system, I just installed it to "C:\adb" for simplicity. In the folder, you'll see adb.exe, fastboot.exe, etc. Take the mfastboot-v2.zip you downloaded above and extract the contents into the same folder -- you should now also have a "mfastboot.exe" file there, as well. Finally, take the stock firmware zip file you downloaded from the above link and extract this into the same folder (make sure all these files are actually in the same folder as the .exe's, not in some subfolder); it contains a good dozen or so files that we are going to flash onto your phone.
In Windows, if you're in the folder with the above files and you hold down the Shift key and right click somewhere in the folder, you'll have an option from the drop down menu to "Open command window here" which should get you a nice command prompt right where you need to be. Get your phone rebooted into fastboot mode, connect it to your PC, and then we can start running through the commands if everything is working correctly.
On the post I linked above, there is a series of mfastboot commands you will have to enter one by one and confirm that it returns an [OKAY] message afterward. The only variation you should have from the original post is that you need to enter an additional command for sparsechunk4 (make sure you scroll this whole list):
Code:
mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
mfastboot flash logo logo.bin
mfastboot flash boot boot.img
mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk4
mfastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
mfastboot erase modemst1
mfastboot erase modemst2
mfastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
mfastboot erase cache
mfastboot erase userdata
mfastboot reboot
If everything went well, you should be rebooted into a stock Verizon 4.4.4 ROM. Take your time, let me know if you have any additional questions about the steps or you get stuck, and good luck!

Any idea as to the status of the phone before you got it? The bootloader status of 0 means it is still locked and it appears from the versioning you listed that it was on 4.4.4 already, so I'm not sure why you'd be having signature verification issues reflashing 4.4.4. At this point, I am honestly just guessing, but perhaps try reflashing the partition table again (the first command with gpt.bin), then reboot the phone back into fastboot mode and try to do the other commands on a second pass?

I was suggesting that after you do the mfastboot command to flash the gpt.bin file (which, from your log appeared to work corrrectly), you could then reboot the phone into fastboot mode (turn it off, turn it back on and get it back into fastboot mode) and then resume from step two. My only theory there was that it may need to actually reformat the partitions before you go back in and start flashing things and that might be why you have the error you do.
Question 30 at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537119 suggests that if you are failing to flash 4.4.4 at this point, you may be stuck, so I'm just trying to walk through the steps I would try myself in your scenario.

Trying to find the default that comes with this phone is not my line knowledge ....
looking on a wiki this is some things i found
its a CDMA Version XT1028 for Verizon
I have a feeling it may be this default that comes with it
Operating system Android Jelly Bean 4.3[6] (Upgradable to Android 5.0 Lollipop[7])
my friend never updates her phones .... I think its a 4.3 jellybean any way to check that theory and find a stock rom ?

The XT1028 originally shipped with 4.3 Jelly Bean, but it is no longer the stock ROM for this device. The part where you say it was recognized as "210.12.41.falcon_cdma.verizon.en.us" means that the device and bootloader have been updated to 4.4.4 KitKat, as that string would have been different were it still on 4.3 or 4.4.2.

You were doing this when you followed the first mfastboot command that flashed the gpt.bin. Do that again, reboot the phone and go back into fastboot mode, and then resume from the second command on the list. This may or may not work, but it's all I can think to suggest.

Whenever something indicates FAILED, you really don't need to keep on with the following steps. What I find odd is that you are succeeding with a couple and then the remaining ones are failing. You can try to reboot after each step that succeeds, perhaps, if that helps.

Help, stuck in bootloader and hboot screens

I got home from work plugged my phone in and went to sleep. When I woke up the phone was on the bootloader screen. It wont do anything but switch screens from bootloader to hboot. I have trying installing the stock rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...zip-ruu-m8vzw-5-0-1-s-off-onlynewest-t3047103 it fails to load from an micro sdcard.
This is a Verizon One M8 phone that has been rooted since release. I have been running Venom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715225 4.3.0 for verizon users.
On the hboot screen it says:
** software statusffical ***
*** Unlocked ***
M8_mlv pvt ship s-offf
cid-vzw__001
hboot-3.19.0.0000
radio-invalid_ver_info
opendsp-invalid_ver_info
os-4.17.605.5
emmc-boot 2048mb
(time and date)
Also when it reboots it shows the android guy in the middle of the screen. It never show the HTC logo.

SD card method should work always as long as you are using fat32 and have the file name exact. If it's not working too aren't doing one of the two above correct.

XT1541 broken after attempt do factory reset

Dear all,
I own a XT1541 and updated to Marhsmallow via OTA few weeks ago. I encountered some troubles with the performance. I also had the issue that a single app was attempted to be optimized on every boot. Therefore, I decided to reset it to factory settings. However, it seemed that this process failed (waited nearly for an hour to complete but nothing happened).
After rebooting then manually, I am stuck in a fastboot message
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)
failed to validate boot image
ERROR: failed to pass validation, backup to fastboot
Fastboot Reason: Fall-through from charger boot mode
CID Read Failure
Invalid CID status 0x69
I can access the device via my Linux using fastboot command. What do you propose to recover from my problem.
Thanks

One thing that confuses me is the fact that the tool tells me that I shall turn on the USB debug mode. However, since Android does not boot any longer, I have no chance to do this in the Settings. Is there any way to enable this debug mode in another way?

Stuck in fastboot

Hi all,
I need help with my phone being stuck in fastboot...
Today i tried to flash Lineage OS using this guide. I did this from scratch with a stock phone, not rooted or unlocked or anything.
Everything went fine until Step 4 under ROM Installation. My phone refused to start into TWRP. It didn't even start the lineage rom, it always just warned me about my phone being a risk because it is unlocked and then proceeded to start the stock Rom. So i tried the whole thing over and over again a couple of times, always with the same result. Then i read someone writing about how he first had to use wipe > format data before flashing the Rom in TWRP in the Guide Thread (Page 3). So i tried that too. But i must have done something wrong because it now led to my phone restarting into a fastboot mode, which didn't look like the fastboot screen it booted into before e.g. different font style, black background without the little android thingy on the top, and it now says "oem_locked" again.
When i try to boot the system it says:
No bootable A/B slot
Failed to boot Linux, falling back to fastboot
Boot up failed
I tried to unlock the phone again using "fastboot oem unlock MYKEY" on my computer it says:
(bootloader) feature disabled
OKAY [ 0.003s]
finished. total time: 0.004s
So i tried to flash back to the stock image as described here.
But i get a "remote failure" error after every command.

This situation takes place when you switch to the empty Slot B without copying contents of Slot A there. I have exactly the same problem and my phone has been put to the box, until a proper solution can be found, if any. I have downloaded blankflash files recently, but the command line shows only "waiting for device", in such a way I havent managed to use it propely.

Thats unfortunat
I tried the blankflash too, with the same outcome. Then i guess i'll do the same.... put in the box and wait for a solution, if there will ever be any :fingers-crossed:
Anyway... thank you for the reply
Tried switching slots?
To check active slot
Code:
fastboot getvar current-slot
To change to slot a
Code:
fastboot --set-active=a
To change to slot b
Code:
fastboot --set-active=b
To toggle from active to inactive Slot
Code:
fastboot set_active other

In this mode phone will not be in EDL, but you can place it into by issuing `fastboot oem blankflash`. See `fastboot oem help` Afterwards you should be able to restore phone using blank flash file, see this HERE
@sd_shadow Switching slots does nothing. I always get the "remote failure" error massage. And when i'm trying to switch to slot b it tells me there wouldn't be a slot b.
Here the output of the suggested commands:

@sd_shadow Switching slots does nothing. I always get the "remote failure" error massage. And when i'm trying to switch to slot b it tells me there wouldn't be a slot b.
Here the output of the suggested commands:
D:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot getvar current-slot
current-slot:
finished. total time: 0.000s
D:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot --set-active=a
Setting current slot to 'a'...
(bootloader) Command is not allowed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: -0.000s
D:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot --set-active=b
Slot b does not exist. supported slots are:
a
D:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot set_active other
Setting current slot to 'a'...
(bootloader) Command is not allowed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: -0.000s

@Geoffrey I was able to put it into EDL. It shows up in my Device Manager as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 but when im trying to run the blankflash like in the guide i get this result:

My PC shows "Android ADB Interface" when the phone is loaded in this emergency fastboot mode, but anyway - ADB commands don't work, fastboot commands bring failures because of the partitions issue and more than that - this emergency fastboot loader is oem_locked and can't be unlocked in a standard way
Will this 134-2 file work on a phone updated to 134-4 ??

In this mode phone will not be in EDL, but you can place it into by issuing `fastboot oem blankflash`. See `fastboot oem help` Afterwards you should be able to restore phone using blank flash file, see this HERE

This is a 134-2 blankflash file - will it work on 134-4 ??
Despite everyone else being able to flash to a different variant of the XT1955 firmware - apparently the Verizon XT1955-6 is OEM locked at the boot.img stage.
Currently there is no PDOS29.114-134-4 firmware to download at https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware.../official/VZW/ to repair it by a re-install of the firmware with - and one cannot install an earlier version . . . unless you know of a way . . .
Everything will re-flash but boot.img and dtbo.img
The Lenovo MOTO Smart Assistant comes back and says it is not supported . . . after recognizing it
Is there a way to re-set the OEM issues of the phone to take earlier versions of the OS - or other variants that you know of ??
Even factory reset is not available - I will look for a fastboot command that can do it - because that is all I can do - it boots right to fastboot now only

It should work for any XT1955-5

OK I can try it. I have a xt1955-6 - Verizon
Everything flashes with a xt1955-5 RETUS firmware except the boot.img and dtbo.img
If blank flash is an OEM signed file - maybe it will push over the existing boot.img
I will see if in the middle of the flash - the oem get_unlock_data has changed with the retail bootloader on the phone
From what I saw in vars - some vars had changed in the bootloader
But what I read at https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/help/how-to-develop-blank-flash-t3791525 it seems to say of the boot.img file is newer - the blank flash will fail

VZW update locks out any other firmware

That would be great except if it updates to newer than the RETUS firmware boot.img - which will cause a pre-flash error instead of an oem boot.img error
I have not tried yet . . . but the RETUS 134-4 firmware is older than the VZW 134-4 firmware which has not been posted on the https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ocean/official/VZW/ website.
No other ocean variant I looked at is newer either - some have the 11/04 modify date - but inside the folder it is not the 134-4 firmware that is for that date.
Verizon's 134-4 update came down between November 2 and 4 in three updates as 1, 2 and then straight to 4 - behind my back on wifi and since the bootloader is still oem locked - and because it is Verizon - not eligible for an unlock code from Motorola due the Verizon ordering it as an oem branded phone, unless I can make it look like a RETUS bootloader to Motorola in the middle of the flash while the bootloader can be unlocked so they provide an unlock code for it _ I am betting I am screwed until the https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ocean/official/VZW/ site has a post for the 134-4 VZW firmware
Right now it boots to fastboot mode immediately - so I do not want to make it worse and actually brick it
I looked inside the blank flash zip and there is no boot.img - but from my understanding the blank flash contacts the boot img and updates it - to what and how I do not know - in my case it needs to "downgrade" it an earlier date - I sure I had Magisk so it could patch the boot.img and fix this. See https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoG/comments/cdsbw6/quick_reference_moto_g7_power_manually_flashing/
The trouble is of course there is no access to ADB copy, push and pull commands in fastboot
I have a XT1955-5 True Factory unlocked Retail US Phone on the way - and this one will have to be shelved

Well I have my answer . . . the Verizon XT1955-6 version restricts using blankflash and it will not go in EDL at all
C:\>fastboot oem blankflash
...
(bootloader) command restricted
FAILED (remote failure)
Since I can flash the RETUS bootloader can anyone suggest another work around to get past boot.img and DTBO.img

I'm having a similar problem. After flashing firmware is stuck in fastboot with the OEM relocked and the unlock code does not unlock it. Mine is retus xt1955-5

Look for retus blank flash
Thanks man.
Ok what I did was hit it with blankflash. That still wouldn't clear out the faulty bootloader that was from the wrong firmware. But I found a new Android 10 firmware flashed it all checks were good and I'm sending this message from it right now.
