Hi.
I am wondering if Viber and Whatsapp influence the phone's general speed by consuming resources.
I have both of these installed, but i rarely ever use them.
Thanks
Hi,
I just wanted to ask that I am not sure how much memory/cpu usage/battery drain Hangouts causes, but are there any alternative SMS apps that are as bug free as Hangouts, and also lighter in memory and battery/cpu usage? Also, I find Hangouts a little ugly and bizarre, but so do many other reviews by users and sites.
Thank you for any recommendations.
Hi All,
This is a question for those of you who have used Google Hangouts and kept an eye on it.
What is the mechanism of syncing this app? Does it send any keep-alives? Does it require separate synchronization (is there another item in Google sync list in Accounts)?
Or, if I re-phrase the question, does it work on the same backbone Gmail does (IMAP)? From the technical perspective, does receiving a Hangout message looks the same as getting email in Gmail? Or is it a separate mechanism with its own process in memory, its own traffic, etc. that will in its turn increase network traffic and battery drain?
Hey guys,
I'm running the latest stable Cataclysm ROM on my N5 but also recognized the problem on other lollipop ROMs. I just don't get notifications. Yeah simple but annoying as hell!
The only apps I really get notifications from is WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger (only when the Chat Bubble is activated).
Snapchat, Instragram etc. No notifications. I don't understand why. Has somebody a idea?? I can't find a solution..
Anybody?
Hi all,
Just received the phone. So far, great looking, feeling and snappy device. I was intrigued by the always on display feature, but the issue I'm having is that it's only showing the time and not any notifications such as mail, sms etc. Do you have to be using the stock Samsung mail and messaging apps in order for the always on display to show you these notifications? If so, that's a disappointment, but sort of makes sense it would only pick up notifications from it's stock applications.
So is that true?
From what I've read so far, yes, the notifications on the Always On Display only show Samsung app notifications.

Yap, a Reddit user confirmed it, that's a total shame...
Redditor “andy2na” said that the always-on-display doesn’t currently support notifications from third-party applications. That means you won’t see alerts from Facebook, Hangouts, WhatsApp, Instagram or anything else that isn’t built by Samsung. “Only when you use Samsung apps will they show up (stock mail, messaging, etc),” Andy2na explained.

I've been playing around with it too, and can confirm no other apps besides Samsung's own, display notifications. So, turned the feature off. No sense in keeping it on for only the clock to show and waste a little under 1% of battery life per hour. Would be worth it if it actually showed third party notifications though! Big bummer....
