ROOT disables Samsung Pay - Samsung Gear S3

I just updated my Samsung Pay for my gear S3 Classic. Just a heads up doing so on a rooted device you will no longer be able to use it. Unless someone knows a workaround. Currently using S4 Verizon.

same here need help finding a workaround

Device: Nexus 6 on Verizon, unencrypted, unlocked bootloader, Lineage OS based ROM (Android 7.1.1).
Magisk hide does get it to at least run without the root error message.. A tip from @candiesdoodle : If you are on a custom ROM, try setting *ro.build.tags=release-keys * instead of *ro.build.tags=test-keys* in build.prop.
However, even though SP runs without the root error, I am unable to add cards, even if I unroot and uninstall Magisk hide.

Amazing guy got it fixed awhile back

That post has nothing to do with Samsung Pay. His mod is a fix for issues people were having issues running the main Gear app on custom roms.
The fix for Samsung Pay is to use Magisk Hide. I am using Magisk Hide on my rooted HTC 10. I can add cards and make payments without issue.

SP wasn't working for magisk for awhile as well on my HTC 10 so that became the solution and probably the best if magisk is ever detected again with an update

Any way you can use Magisk on S4 Verizon using Flashfire

Which version did you guys update it to? It still works on my rooted note 4, so I turn off the auto update for spay just in case.

version 1.3.1703

Got samsung pay to work on watch!
after looking at what version of Samsung pay had on the watch which was 1.3.1703, I was able to find an apk from sammobile for version 1.2.5202. After downloading that version and I had to manually uninstall Samsung Pay through your phone settings and application manager or installing the older apk on top of the newer one would fail, I was able to access Samsung pay with no problems on my phone and was able to add back my card like i was able to do before. after adding my card I was able to blanch Samsung pay on my Watch but due to my watch Samsung pay version being higher than my phone version due to when Samsung pay updated before, it wouldn't let me use Samsung pay until my phone version was back to version 1.3.1703. but I was able to access Samsung pay on my watch with my cards showing up now. I haven't tried to see if it works but I assume that since the card is on the watch now It should work now. ill attach the older apk for anyone else to try.

Looks like we'll have to stick with version 1.2 5202 for spay to work properly for now, especially with rooted and non spay supported phones like my note 4.

What all needs to be checked in the Magisk Hide list?
I have all the obvious ones checked like Samsung Pay, Gear S, etc, but SPay still says it detects root.

I did the entirety of Samsung Gear Apps:
Cell Provider
Gear S Plugin
Samsung Accessory Service
Samsung Gear
Samsung Health
Samsung Pay
Samsung Push Service
SASystemProviders
Basically, Search "Samsung" in Magisk Hide and go ham.

Can't think of anything else. Maybe try clearing the Samsung Pay app data (maybe once it sniffs root it won't forget until you wipe its memory)
Magisk v12.0
Magisk Manager 4.3.1

So is there any way to use SPay on Nougat rom with root? Does Magisk+suhide work?

I'm livid, the latest update no longer allows Samsung pay to work even downgrading to 1.2.1xxx which I had done. Called Samsung, no help what so ever, now this watch is paperweight to me

Android Pay & custom rom

So I have tripped KNOX already. I'm using TWRP, Xstrolite 2.3.
I've tried unchecking superSU root and retrying. I've tried using root cloaker.
Is there an easy way to not have the bootloader unlocked? Or is it once I flashed TWRP, its unlocked forever.
Has anyone else been able to successfully use Android Pay? Post your experience
I'm in the same boat as you, I've tried disabling SuperSU and using root cloak as well to no avail. I've also got the Xtrestolite ROM running Unikernel V8 and I keep getting compatibility errors no matter what I seem to do. Could it be possible that Android Pay is detecting that KNOX is compromised and therefore disabling Android Pay? The only other thing I can think of is that running a custom ROM somehow prevents Android Pay from being compatible. I'm almost tempted to make a nandroid backup and temporarily install the stock ROM to see if that solves the problem.

Exactly.. Or that we're running a custom recovery too.
My thought is that the xstolite rom makes your phone be seen as a s6 edge.. Wonder if that affects things too. Though I've changed in the build prop back to 920T.
Would be a big bummer for us who've tripped Knox getting screwed out of android and Samsung pay. Others with rooted phones, have said it works.

I also changed the build prop to reflect my SM-G920F model. I really wish I could get Android Pay to function on this device, I tripped KNOX with the full understanding that I was going to lose the ability to use Samsung Pay but never did I imagine that using a custom ROM would cause me to compromise Android Pay as well. I purchased an international unlocked model of the S6 so naturally, the bootloader was unlocked from the factory, I don't know if having an unlocked bootloader necessarily causes you to lose Android Pay. It either has to be due to the fact that we're running a custom ROM, custom recovery, or because KNOX is tripped and it's preventing AP to run like it should.
Try installing the stock rom for your phone. Then under supersu simply uncheck root and see if adding the cards work
I have it running and got my bank card added haven't had a chance to use it though. I'm using TWRP on WanamLite, Adam kernel, with Xposed and a whole lot of stock apps deleted including KNOX and private mode. All I did was unroot, install, AP, root, profit. I'm guessing its something missing from XtreStoLite.

So i did a fresh install but with Tyrannus rom 5.1, it runs the same base as Xstolite (I believe)
I got android pay working on tyrannus rom 5.1
maybe try backing up your current setup, wipe and flash the rom and first thign you do is try android pay and see if it works. Thats what I did on the rom im running now
I got it working on Tyrannus as well...briefly...although I am not sure how I did it.
Currently on XtreStoLite 2.3, using Xposed + No Device Check and an app called SafetyNet Helper...it says my device is good to go, but Android Pay won't work still.
I hope someone is able to pinpoint what prevents it from working and how to spoof it. I tend to have my phone in my hands a lot more than my wallet.
K, got it working. Fresh install of Tyrannus 5.1, did NOT install Xposed. Immediately turned SU off after 1st boot, before updating Google Play Services. Was then able to activate Android Pay and add cards.
Update 20150924: tried to use it at McDonalds for tap and pay. Android Pay started when tapped but never completed the transaction and I had to use my card.

Gear S2 and CM ROMS

Anyone get the Gear S2 watch working in a custom rom like CM? CM13?
Still trying to get my gear s2 working on my galaxy s5 running CyanogenMod 12.1
Worked fine for me with oneplus one. Just make sure you light reset the watch any time you try a new rom
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
Yea tried that. Normally thr gear app would pop up and try to pair with the gear s2 but its not doing that. Ive manually downloaded the three Samsung gear APKs on the other thread...believe it was the gear plugin, Samsung accessories, and Samsung gear app. The app is giving the error saying Samsung gear cannot install due to custom ROM.
Hi!
I tried to install the Samsung Gear App and get the same Error that the OS has been modified unauthorised... :-/
My Question is: Did someone try this App after insalling the stock ROM again?
I don't want to backup and reinstall all apps and data...
Thank you for your help!
I have been through this rodeo, and I have noted a couple things.
1) Unlocked Bootloader: Doesn't matter, I am currently running Phils Recovery on my TW Official OK4 ROM, Gear and android pay work fine.
2) CM12.1 or CM13, not rooted or removed root: Doesn't work. Root is not the only thing both apps are looking for.
3) TW Custom ROM: Doesn't work. Could not get it working on my MOAR 7 rom which is based on TW.
4) STOCK ROM with Phils Recovery: Works fine if I don't root.
So obviously the check goes beyond root, and probably some combination of Software Version / Build Number or some other reference point to detect the ROM.
The reports of hiding the root on a custom ROM to get Android Pay to work, simply don't work. My hunch is that whatever Android Pay is using, is the same mechanism as the Gear Manager app from Samsung.
In the end, frustrating, because TW stock is completely slow, and kills my battery, and does stupid things like turns on my screen anytime I put it on an inductive charging station, or won't allow me to turn the volume to max over BT because of communism... or socialism... or whatever.

So, if i install the stock rom (recovery stays the same) the app will start without a problem and the connection to the gear s2 is fine?

Yes. Unfortunately the TW rom does suck, and has a bunch of built in stuff you can't turn off. If you are used to (like me) with a ROM that makes any kind of sense in it's design, then it's a beotch to switch back (kiss the battery life goodbye). On a good front, the Gear S2 is pretty awesome....
Hey!
I got my Samsung Gear S2 today and i'm installing my apps again.
Gear Manager started without a problem and the connection to the Gear S2 was established in a second!
Of course i'll install another launcher!
Best regards,

How can I root and keep S Health?

I have the Exynos S7 Flat (G930FD) and I'm wanting to root it.
I've done this before about a year ago, but then I ended up getting a new device.
Since then, apparently SHealth now requires KNOX, which rooting will trip.
Is there any way I can bypass this? Perhaps a custom ROM or something? I know there used to be an Xposed module that restored private mode and something else, but I don't think it works anymore.
Basically I want to have root access as well as to be able to use S Health.

Basically, what vladmir said. S-Health disables services if you're rooted starting from version 5, so any previous versions will not have this problem. Just Google S-health APK 4.9 or something like that, and install.

It works just fine on Marshmallow, but if you upgrade to Nougat then you need a custom ROM to make it work.
Removing it and installing it as a non-system app doesn't seem to change anything, and installing an older version didn't help me either.
I've downgraded to 6.0.1 so it doesn't really affect me any more though.
It is very simple to make SHealth working.
First root your device with Magisk using this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Magisk is able to hide itself from a lot of apps, which won't run if your phone is rooted (i.e. Pokemon go, Mario run...)
If Magisk won't help you then:
install file explorer, it can be ES file explorer,
enable root explorer option (in ES file explorer)
go to /system directory
edit file build.prop
Look for ro.config.tima=1 and change the value to 0
reboot phone and now SHealth will work perfectly

Thinking about rooting my G930FD and installing CFW...Many questions

Hi guys,
I'm considering rooting my G930FD. If I just root it, I should be able to disable most of Samsung crap, correct? I'm concerned about being able to use apps that might detect for root/CFW, such as:
-Google Pay
-HSBC
-MobileIron
Is there a way to hide the root from these? I think MobileIron even checks the knox status, so even if root is hidden/disabled, I might still fail that check.
If I install a CFW, what are the current status of affairs? I haven't installed a CFW since my Galaxy S4 times. As in, if I install any Lineage/AOSP, is there any way to get the camera to work with the stock app, or at least make it perform stock/like? What about Google Pay etc on these ROMs? Any stock-based ROM that keeps the camera while minimizing/rooting out all the touchwiz crap, while still working?
Thanks! I've been out of the game for a couple of years and got lost trying to catch up again...

I haven't touched my S7 yet so I can't answer you but this could answer some of your questions:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/debloat-galaxy-s7-services-safe-to-t3432967
You don't necessarily have to root, you have to install TWRP as a custom firmware, then get the script, edit it if you don't want some apps to be removed, apply the script and it's debloated.
But I'm sorry I can't tell you if you can install TWRP without tripping Knox, I can't tell you if installing a custom Firmware will disable Google Pay etc... But I guess you can easily find that information by searching, or someone knowing more than me will help you
Installing TWRP will trip Knox if it's like every other Samsung phone I have owned that referenced Knox or warranty bit in download mode.

Question Android auto for Fold 2 help?

I have an aawireless adapter or can do usb but haven’t been able to get Android auto to quite work with the fold 2. Is it a lost cause? For Android Auto, you need Magisk module.
How to enable Android Auto on Xiaomi MIUI Chinese ROM [Magisk] - AndroPlus
I created a Magisk module that solves the problem of not being able to use Android Auto with MIUI Chinese ROMs, etc. Need Android Auto app in /system

Other limitations like location history can be bypassed by this module:

Unlock your bootloader, install Magisk, and install the AndroPlus global ROM module. Galaxy watches will work without issue after this. Android Auto also works with the AndroPlus AA sub module, you just have to install the global rom module first.
