Hey!
I have an unlocked AT&T model LGV10 (unsure which series), which I have brought back to Australia. managed to get mobile data and MMS working with APNs, but I can't use the hot spot, getting the message "There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of the mobile hotspot function. Please try again later".
Have done some reading, and is it correct that I'll have to root my phone to change a .db file, or install a stock/custom ROM to get hotspot working? Happy to do that, if it's what it takes, but not totally sure the best way to do that. Any help would make my day. Thanks!

Acquiring root is easy if you are on Lollipop. If you have upgraded to MM, then I'm afraid root is not possbile (yet). See what version of Android you are running, if it's Lollipop then we'll talk about the rooting process.

Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61736387&postcount=15
I have AT&T V10 in Australia on Vodafone and this fixed my issue with tethering. I know it says H810 which is different to H900 (AT&T) but works.
For some reason if your AT&T V10 was purchased on an unlimited plan this is the fix as was my V10.
Hopefully this helps.

Would love to share with you what I did to make my V10's hotspot work.
(My phone is not rooted and have a LG-H900 model.)
1. Download "Settings Database Editor" at the playstore. The icon is a blue cog with red background.
2. Open the app then select "system"
3. Find "tether_entitlement_check_state" then set it to "0".
4. Save.
Hopefully this helps.
Champion! This worked for me.
I didn't have that setting but added it with the zero value and now I can turn on the tethering
Thanks!

Wonderful, it worked like a charm, thank you
Same here, had to add the setting, for which the option to do so shows up in pretty big letters at the top of the list.
Anyway, LG G6 Hotspot now working so massive thanks to those who helped.
(Noob alert - after selecting 'System Table' on my phone(in the top right of the screen), tap "+ Add new setting" at the top of the list, then type "tether_entitlement_check_state" without quotation marks, then tap Save Setting, then enter the value "0" without quotation marks, and tap save again, and you're done; Hotspot worked straight away without rebooting).

Had to necro this thread to offer my thanks. 2 years later and this fix still works. Same thing, branded ATT LG V10 that has been unlocked (now on MetroPCS) would not activate hotspot. Downloaded app, checked for setting (not there) added setting and rebooted. Hotspot now active. You rock!

I am rooted, so if there's some trick to try please do share. I believe I'm paying for the hotspot feature, although going through the change plan process doesn't seem to show that option anywhere (I just tried to find it to see whether or not it was already enabled but I can't find it anywhere on the Sprint site...).

I had tethering working on Sprint via this mod:
add a new entry to the "global" table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0 in the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db file.
Just updated to 4.4.2; re-rooted (via WugFresh toolkit) tried tethering and its not working anymore. Not sure if its related to the 4.4.2 or not.
Anyone have a fix?

Thanks, appreciate the help. My issue is different however - the phone seems to start the tethering and I can connect to it through my tablet - but no data seems to flow... can't even run a speedtest on the tablet or load any webpage...
On the T-Mo side, I was afraid that we would lose the tethering with the latest 4.2.2 OTA - and initially, it looked that way. Speedtest would work on download side but "communications issues" on the upload side & unable to finish and show results .... Arrrrrgghhhh.
With two Nexus 5 on hand, it was easy to compare pre- and post- edits, hotspot & speed data, etc. along with comparing the entries in the above mentioned settings.db fields. First, save a coopy of the *.db just in case it is needed - then, added the tether_dun_required and value to 0 as a new entry/line, saved & exit. Reboot device for good measures, and sure enough, it connected by got re-directed to T-Mo's home page ... APN was set to IPv6
Change it to IPv4 and exit, restarted WiFi hotspot and it is good - fast speed and websites loading quickly, etc.
This may, or may not, help out those on Sprint's network - but, worth looking into ...

Hmm, wonder what happened with my config then. I'm in the same boat - stock rooted only. maybe i will try removing the new line in settings.db are re-adding... Right now I can launch hotspot and connect to it from tablet/laptop but no data flows thru the pipe....
I lost my tether after the 4.4.2 update as well. I have a Sprint Nexus 5. My laptop and tablet were able to connect to the hotspot, but no data was coming across.
I looked at the settings.db file and could still see the "tether_dun_required" entry was definitely there. So I decided to replace the settings.db file with a copy I had from before the 4.4.2 update. Rebooted the phone, and magically, tether started working again.
I was curious though to see if I put the post-4.4.2 update settings.db file back, then would I lose my tether? So, once again, I replaced the settings.db file with the post-4.4.2 version, rebooted the phone, and magically, tether still was working! WTF!
The only thing interesting that I noticed during all of this is that every time I replaced the settings.db file on the phone, the corresponding settings.db-journal file would disappear. I don't know much about SQLite, but I wonder if the journal file had some transaction state with the "tether_dun_required" hack removed or not committed.
Anyway, hope this helps.
Hello I flashed the lollipop factory image today without issue. It's working great except for one issue which is tethering. My laptop seems to connect but says no internet access. I tried editing the settings.db file with the tether dun required entry that worked with KitKat but no luck. Carrier is Sprint
Any fixes or ideas?
tethering works perfect here, via default app. but im with tmobile. its your provider stopping
you, not an issue with android nor the nexus 5.
I'm searching for a fix also. I actually pay for 10GB MHS on my Unlimited Sprint plan... but for whatever reason since my Nexus S 4G, I need to use the tethering fix.
Tether not working here either, sprint. Was using the tether module from the xposed on KK but exposed not working ok 5.0 yet.
Can't even get wifi tether router to work. Probably going to have to flash nandroid back to 4.4.4. That sucks.
Bump, anyone find out a way to tether on sprint? Ive reverted back to KK until I can tether on sprint. My job requires me to be able to tether to my tablet.

The sql edit works. Easiest way is to get SQLite editor (it's a dollar or two if I remember correctly). Open up the app, give root. Navigate to "Settings Storage" > "settings.db" > "global" and create a new entry with name "tether_dun_required" and value "0". Close the application, reboot, and you're good to go.

Well I don't feel as ignorant now.
the WiFi tether router app works flawlessly, without having to edit any files. its not at the play store, but can find it easily if you google it. I past my 3gb allotment last night, and tmobile cut me off from tethering. so, I started using this app, and am tethering again
The SQL edit worked perfectly for me on my Lollipop powered Nexus 5. I am on Sprint and tethering is working fine now.
I also wanted to comment and let you guys know that I followed instructions here and tethering is working perfectly on the Sprint network.
1. Purchased and downloaded "SQLite Editor" (paid $2.99) from the Play store.
2. Opening SQLite Editor prompted me for root access. I selected grant/approve.
3. Follow axp878's instructions to use SQLite Editor: Stay on the "APPS" tab and navigate down to: "Settings Storage" >> "settings.db" >> "global"
4. Now, press the "+" icon and type in "tether_dun_required" in the name field and enter in "0" as the value. Save and close out of SQL Editor
5. Restart your device.
6. Once booted, Go to system settings and click on the "--- More" option under Wireless & networks. Select "Tethering & portable hotspot". Turn on "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" and VOILA.
Thank you guys. This is obviously the best way to wirelessly tether via lollipop natively. Thanks axp878!

Hey Simms, would you mind sending me your general settings for that application? I've been trying to get it working on my Nexus 5 (T-mobile), but it won't let my tethered devices get to the internet. Also, do you have any modified settings outside of the app?
I think you need root right? How do you root lollipop? Or if you root kitkat it will automatically be rooted in lollipop?

There are several ways you can root your Nexus 5. I used Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT) as that seemed easiest to me. http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
I'm not sure whether you'll have root in lollipop if you are rooted already in kitkat. What I did was use the NRT to flash to stock lollipop. I then used the same NRT to root with TWRP recovery. It was pretty straightforward to use Wugfresh's toolkit.
Hi all,
Well i saw a lot of threads about how to unlock the Sprint LS996 flex 2 and a lot of strange explanations that the phone is locked on the hardware level, It's a lot of bull***
I just bought this phone from Ebay for only 280$ and it took me less that a hour to make it work in Israel (Hot-Mobile) 3G GSM/WCDMA network. (the LTE band are different than in USA so it can't be enabled due to hardware limitations)
This will only work on Android 5.0.1, who already did the upgrade to 5.1.1 should wait till approve of root method or
can try KingRoot application (Chinese developer and UI) and let me know if it's working. I did not used this app so can't really approve that it works.
5.1.1 Root (experimental):
Explain Video about KingRoot method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QicDqTKb_sU
5.0.1 Root:
I'm used this method for rooting G flex: http://www.smartphoneclinics.com/easy-one-click-root-lg-flex2-sprint-ls996/ (worked flawless)
SimUnlock:
After successful rooting and restarting the phone I've used this post for enable SIMUNLOCK (seem the db/obb files from G3 but they worked on my Flex 2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/help/managed-to-gsm-ls996-awaited-apn-t3090484
Did exactly what it says and used the files that attached to the thread. After restarting the phone Inserted the simcard and restarted the phone again, (I love restarts )
the network should change to "No Service" Instead of "Invalid SIM" or something like that before the obb/db file change.
Roaming Enable:
After you see "No service" you almost there
Go to Settings > Network > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and choose "Global"
Don't forget to add APN manually, you need to use WIFI for downloading applications like "Shortcut master lite" because there is no Mobile data... yet
APN setup:
Install Shortcut master lite click and hold the recent apps button and click "Search"
Search for apn select com.andoird.settings$ApnSettingsActivity and then click Launch / homescreen
Select on the Top Right new apn
Fill this form out with the apn from your provider (If you don't know the apn look it up in google APN settings for your provider).
Restart the Phone and let 1-2 min to the phone connect to your Mobile Provider
Let me know if this worked to you as well and press "thank's" button for me and "tomtam" that wrote the original post.
Actually after the root I manually de-bloated the phone using Root Uninstall and it's just amazing phone,
without any lag what so ever and i get Over 50K in Antutu 64bit. I'm trying to find a way to use custom recovery and i feel that i
found a workaround for that using TWRP Manager and Busy box..... (It's for different thread )

(It's for different thread )

well lets get to it then it to much of a waste not having a custom recovery etc...maybe maybe a recovery using g3 bump would still work...
I did everything as you did for LS996 GSM unlock. I also enabled the LTE band 4 and it is working perfectly in my country, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/how-to-enable-lte-bands-band-4-1700-t3097409.
To change apn simply install this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.appando.app.changeApn&hl=en. This app does not require root.
Use greenify app to control some apps resource use and freeze LG MLT service, just doing these steps you improve battery a lot.
Finally use any kernel control application as Trickster Mod to change scheduler to row from noop and set governor to interactive, don't forget to set changes at boot.
Enjoy your network unlocked, 4G capable and snappy flagship for only 200 bucks.

Hi all,
Well i saw a lot of threads about how to unlock the Sprint LS996 flex 2 and a lot of strange explanations that the phone is locked on the hardware level, It's a lot of bull***

I believe this may be limitation. In the network mode option there is automatic, LTS/CDMA,CDMA and GSM/UMTS. I am thinking if you select LTE the phone will try to use CDMA for voice. So if your using A GSM network it wont work. There needs to be a option that says LTE/GSM.
No APN option.

Hello, I just bought a 2nd hand LG G Flex 2 for around $100 USD in Nepal. It is a USA Sprint model but unlocked. I checked the imei and its clean. It is already rooted and no sprint apps are present. Calls and sms are working good but there is no option of APN inside mobile networks. So i am unable to use data connection. Is there anyway i can enable it? And also the call volume via earpiece sounds a little low. Thanks in advance.
I have rooted v10 (5.1.1) please tell me how can I enable Hotspot?
Would love an answer to this too. Would rooting fix the problem? It says "authenticating..." then after a few moments it says "Authentication was unsuccessful.. There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of the Mobile Hotspot function. Please try again later"
Hi all, would love to share with you what I did to make my V10's hotspot work =)
Just for your info., my phone is not rooted and have a LG-H900 model.
1. Download "Settings Database Editor" at the playstore. The icon is a blue cog with red background.
2. Open the app then select "system"
3. Find "tether_entitlement_check_state" then set it to "0".
4. Save, check and enjoy =)

I'm using my V10 H900 unlocked on T-Mobile so I have never been able to hotspot in the past. This sort of worked. It allowed me to setup a hotspot but all the devices connected said no internet access. I tried tethering via usb cable. That worked so well. Thanks so much!

Hey guys, I have found a way to get hotspot working in Oreo without rooting or paying for the service. Timing seems to be important for Sprint's software to load and block the functionality of the hotspot. This method does work on Oreo, but it also works on all other versions below it as well. Follow the steps below or watch the video at the bottom and post back here if it works!
1. Download and install Shortcut Master Lite from the play store.
2. Open Shortcut Master Lite and search for com.test.ltefunctionality and make sure there are no spaces before or after the query.
3. Open the result ending with LTEFunctionalityTest and find LTE APN Setting in the list and tap it.
4. Open APN2 EHRPD internet and scroll to APN type. See if you can edit it. If so then great! Add ,dun to the end and to the same for APN2 LTE internet and you're done! If you cannot edit, which is likely on Oreo, then continue with the steps.
5. Some have had success with rebooting the phone and getting into Shortcut Master Lite quickly after the reboot. For others this does not work. You can try it and see for yourself.
6. Open up the dialer and type ##27263# This resets your carrier customization settings and reboots the phone.
7. Upon reboot, follow steps 2 through 4 again and it WILL work. Make sure you save your changes when editing the APN Types.
8. Verify your hotspot is working by toggling it on and connecting a device.

I got this to work on my Galaxy S9+ for the last two weeks. As of 5/29/18 it has quit working and If I redo the procedure it immediately catches it and shuts it off.

id like to know as well
Is there a way to get this to work on verizon? The old sim card trick no longer works on Oreo.
Does this still works? Also I'm suppose to have unlimited plan, but once I use certain amount of data the speed get drastically reduced, is there a way to avoid or bypass the speed limit on Sprint?
Btw OP love the Insaniquarium profile pic haha

I just used this on my note 8 with the CRE1 update and it worked great.
Now does anyone know if it works on the s8?
Hello, I was using an app (shortcut master lite) to modify hotspot to work. But now when I go into shortcut master it's all greyed out. I cannot select anything. Can someone help to enable so I can get hotspot to working again.

I have an S8+ and basically modified this setting via ADB way back on Android 7 and it has persisted all the way through the upgrade to Oreo. I am currently on CRG3 and it still works. One trick to note is to turn off mobile data, turn on the hotspot, and then turn mobile data back on. Has been working since I got this phone back in May 2017...
Now to see if the ADB method will work on the Note9 in a few days...

Hey guys, I have written an app that makes this process pretty easy. Shortcut Master Lite is no longer available on the Play Store.
