Apparently the Galaxy S8/8+ will feature a "High AOP Mic that minimizes distortion in noisy environments." (AOP=Acoustic Overload Point). Has anyone seen any videos testing recording in extremely loud environments such as a concert? I've owned the Galaxy S3 and S5 (both were terrible in noisy situations) before switching to the Moto X Pure(which is still pretty bad). Thinking about switching back for the S8 but seems recording in loud areas has not improved much from the S5 to the S7. Curious to know if Sammy has finally squashed the problem since iPhone have always been able to record in loud places and other newer phones like the LG V20 uses 3 AOP mics.
There is a video test on here that happens to be done at a concert.

Thanks for the link. Wish person taking the video was closer so I could get a better idea or if they would have taken a video with the S7 to compare it to but oh well. Not being to record at a concert isn't a deal breaker for me it just sucks when other people can record with an iPhone and it sounds perfect and when I've done it on all my other phones it sounds like crap.
now that the phone has been out does anyone have any videos from concerts this past weekend? Hows the video recorder

let me know if you find something else, this capability is important for me and once it's resolved on S8 i will defiantly buy one.

I know this may be a repeat, and if so i apologize. I tried searching the forums but there was nothing in relation to this issue specifically....
I went to a concert on New years with a buddy of mine (who has an iphone 4), and we both recorded videos. The video quality on the NS seemed to be better than the 'iPhone 4", however the nexus audio quality in the video recording was just horrendous. the iphone 4 played the exact same video with lower video quality, but crystal clear audio.
on the NS you could hear nothing but BASS levels. Can anybody explain to me:
1. Why this happens on the NS and not on the iphone4?
2. Can this be solved with using an external headset?
3. Will this be fixed in any patches (720p recording, etc) or is it a hardware issue?
I'll upload the two videos for you to compare.
Edit: I'll have to get the actual video file from the iphone, but this should give you enough of an example.

may have something to do with the software based noise cancellation
Wait, is the Nexus S not hardware based noise cancellation? Correct me if im wrong, but the nexus 1 had a second microphone just for this?
Unless this is patched, this might be a dealbreaker for me as I use my camera recording, and audio recording frequently.

yup NS only has one microphone, i believe it is because there are some new noise cancellation stuff in 2.3...that doesnt really work
unless we are dealing with the some audio auto gain, like the same problem found in the SGS phones
Thanks for the response guys, this might just be reason enough for me to go back to the N1 until the NS has better updates.
Hi how good is the microphones in the mate 9 do they compare to the v20 or HTC 10?
I recorded via WhatsApp today for 5 minutes, while driving. Phone was on my lap. The pickup was fantastic and even though you can hear the road noise in the background, the vocals were clear and natural.
My HTC One Mate 8 was also pretty good, and that's the only phone of recent memory that I can compare to.
Anyone noticed when video recording in complete silence, there are weird noises? like a buzz or hiss.. weird.. wonder what it is. Its not a big enough problem to affect my OCD though.

Yep. Like a sort of crackling/hissing. Doesn't seem to occur when recording audio only, so I'm thinking it's something in the camera module, like the autofocus or OIS motors.
Hey people,
When recording videos I noticed the sound quality is veeery bad, but only when I use the front camera of the stock camera app. Rear camera works fine, so it seems like a software problem. It sounds like there is some kind of extreme noise reduction. Now I found another google camera app here on XDA which records the audio fine on both front and rear camera, but it still sucks that on other apps (like snapchat and instagram) the sound quality still sucks. Can't really find a solution for this on the internet, is there anyone who's found a fix for this?
Oh and I'm on OOS Pie btw. Haven't tried flashing another rom yet as I really love this rom.
Thats sadly an Hardware Thing. Thats why I bought an iPhone 8+ only for concerts... For simple pics I take my OP6
The problem of bad audio when recording is from the first oneplus. Sure it got better buy time but with the first one bass was like you were blowing on the mic, with 5 and 5t bass was like it was sucked out, with the six it just a little bit better, but for a flagship it's waaay too bad some mid range phones are better at this even my old xperia arc has better sound recording in clubs and concert or nay place with loud music
So I used to have the samsung A71. And I go to Techno gigs alot and sometimes record a song I like to ID later. The sound quality was very good and bass did not get distorted alot, even when close to the speakers/subs. So I thought it would be the same on my S22 ultra but yesterday I went to a club and the sound is just horrible.. On a phone that costs 3x the amount. The sound is just distorted and bad.
But weirdly enough my instagram story is not distorted (filmed with the instagram camera) Anyone know why this could be?
EDIT: Proof and video reference.

Hey sorry, i've edited the post with links to the video's
Thanks, yes crazy bad, if it's confirmed, no finger above one of the mics ? Even on Instagram it's not really good, you have Snapdragon or Exynos ?
I've got multiple video's so no finger on the microphone. I use the Spigen Thin fit case.
I live in Belgium so I got Exynos. Model number is SM-S908B/DS
In 2 weeks i'll go to the same club again. I'll try some 3rd party camera apps like Open camera and Gcam.
Honestly in the first video the sound started to open up and get better at the 10 second mark right before the video ends. Maybe it was just a matter of where you were positioned at..

No sounds like the music stop the bass and it became better. Probably the fingers according to me, well I hope so.

That's just when the bass stopped, there's speakers left, right and in front of me, so either where I aim the camera the sound will always be the same
5 more video's of yesterday, I think it may be software related, cuz the instagram one isnt half that bad. with the same microphones

Try to use a sound recorder app and see if it will make any difference.

Good idea, i'll try that
Yup, I believe you. It's pretty bad.... Especially when the bass hits it becomes very distorted..
You're holding it wrong!
Seriously, stop recording video holding the phone vertically!
Ugh!
Turn off audio zoom.

I don't think keeping my phone horizontally will have effect on the microphone quality.
And if you mean 'zoom in mic' I disabled this

No it doesn't affect mic quality but it makes videos unwatchable to most!
On a serious note to address overloading audio or AGC on very loud inputs this is bad as I haven't seen this for many generations of Samsung devices!
Try Pro Mode (video) where you have control over audio inputs, for example.

I understand but these video's are usually only for instagram (so has to be vertical) or to find a track ID so doesnt matter how it looks, only how it sound haha
I usually film horizontal when I want to show it
Like this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/H7eCkgJL6vrnFBQG9
FYI these video's above are filmed with Oneplus 7 pro. and the quality is pretty okay. Might return to oneplus if that's still the case.
And for the pro mode, i'll add it to the list of things to try in 2 weeks. Thanks
So guys, I'm getting horrible mic quality under water.

Don't mind, he has probably never went out, concert or clubbing.
Hello . I have a problem with my galaxy s22 ultra Snapdragon , the videos I record at rave or shows that have a very strong sound The recording comes out with the horrible sound, totally blown up.
While cell phones( S10+ and S21 Ultra) of friends who recorded videos at the same party, the sound is perfect. I would like to know if this problem is on my cell phone or is the microphone of the s22 ultra that is really bad?
Anyone who has made videos in strong sound like a show? noticed the same problem?
I put a video on youtube that I recorded, all the videos had the same audio.
It's clipping like hell... the mic gain is way too high or the mics themselves can't physically handle that decibel level.
I don't know... I wouldn't expect my N10+ to do much better in the same conditions. Never tested it though.
It's not just the audio, the video is juddery AF!

Cam shake, multiple high contrast targets... normal. An AF lock can avoid that.
Not what I'd consider normal but then again my S21 Ultra is pretty bad in a hailstorm. 13 Pro Max kills it!
This is a well known issue already being discussed in a thread here. I'm assuming it's software related since my U.S t-mobile snapdragon S22 Ultra doesn't exhibit this. Hopefully Samsung will address it in an update in the near future.
