good lock - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Is it coming back?

Good Question... I was wondering that too.

I hope so. I rather liked the WiFi geofencing feature it provided.

Hope so to. Been missing it after updating to nougat.

Have been wondering the same too - it really made the S7E a viable option for me. (switched to a Pixel)

So, anyone managed to get it back?
I can't find it on Galaxy Apps, it's not even in "Galaxy Apps > My Galaxy > (Three dots) > My Apps > All"

I tried installing the latest APK (before S8 launch). It said my device has to restart after the install (as normal), but then forced a restart again to automatically uninstall it.

What is com.htc.fotafailnotify ?

Hello,
Yesterday morning I have updated my Android to 2.29, from 2.2 (something) on my HTC Desire. Initially it failed to install due to lack of space (did not have the required 25 MB minimum).
Now, in my list of downloaded applications I see a com.htc.fotafailnotify and everything is 0.00kb. It shows up under Settings-> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Downloaded (tab)
Is this a result of that failure and can I uninstall it without any unpleasant consequences?
- Today, I have uninstalled it and apparently nothing noticeable has happened.
Only strange thing is that after uninstalling it, I cannot select another application from that menu, but I can scroll up/down, leave the menu, everything else. If i come back to it, it's back to normal for the first 3-4 then it happens again.
Can anyone tell me what this is and if I messed up by removing it? No one has replied on the Desire section of the forum, and Google was of no help whatsoever.
Thanks!

"Recommended apps" & "Toolbox" crashed when selected

I just got my new S5 and I restored system data from Titanium Backup from my old S3 (running on 4.3 Jellybean) which crashed the "Recommended apps" and "Toolbox" functions when selected in Settings.
When either of these two were selected, the message "Unfortunately, Settings have stopped" appeared.
I'm running Samsung stock ROM Lollipop 5.0. Are there any ways to restore these two settings by flashing some zip files?
Start over Sir. There's is the best way to restore these two settings.
I guess that's one of the ways. Have been contemplating about starting over too. But, now at least I'm more certain that this is the better way.
Would there be any chance that any one of you might know how to add the "Mobile Data" button to the notification panel as Sprint might have had it removed?

Recent apps after 6.0.1 marshmallow update

Why did the recent apps turn to crap with marshmallow? The rotary used to scroll so silky smooth now it sucks, it skips 2 or more at a time and stops so abruptly it's like it's being operated by a hand crank rather than the old rotary wheel feel. It's driving me crazy! Anyone else??
I much prefer this new one. You can actually see what's on each screen now.
It looks ok. I'm not a big user of recent apps used. As long as it there, its ok. It doesn't seem to be buggy for me and its working just fine.
I totally agree

I totally agree. I can't come to terms with the new recent apps, either. It's annoying me so much, that I'm actually considering switching to another rom because of it. However, I don't want to lose the good stock camera app. Does anyone know another way to get back the old app switcher?
I just checked xposed for a module fixing this, but coudn't find anything.
By the way, I'm using a Galaxy S7 after switching from a Note 5. It's exactly the same. My old S5, which recently received its 6.0.1 update, still has the old recent apps (and also the blue theme inside the quick settings).

My note 5 isn't rooted (verizon) but a factory wipe made the recent apps run a lot smoother after the MM update
My recent apps on my Note 5 (AT&T + stock marshmallow) is always blank... have to use the app manager and force stop to restart apps

Cannot access settings at all - icon has disappeared

Since updating my Samsung Galaxy S8+ a couple weeks ago, I noticed that I couldn't find the settings icon. Eventually I worked out that the COG could be found at the top right hand side when pulling down the menu, but it will only open up the "secure folder settings" and I can't do a thing from there. Is there a way that anyone knows of that I can get the Settings icon back? My phone has also been randomly shutting down without warning for the last few days and today there are apps that no longer open, with my phone telling me constantly that they have "stopped working". I can't access settings to do a back up or to restore my phone. Not sure what to do. Thanks for any advice!
From what it sounds like you still have can USE the phone,
I would download backup program like Titanium do the backup and then odin to stock as it seems your flash didn't go right or something go removed

Google Phone app opens Samsung Phone app "Call" settings, instead of its own

Hi all.
I think I posted this in the wrong section, hopefully this one is more appropriate!
Weird problem, simple premise: the "Google Phone" app is installed and set as the default phone app, and it starts and works normally, except when I go into Settings > Calls, where it opens the "Samsung Phone" app settings page. Every other setting sub-page is the normal Google Phone app’s.
I have tried all sorts of thing, including:
- disabling Samsung Phone
- removing authorizations for Samsung Phone
- uninstalling components of Samsung Phone via ADB/Universal Android Debloater
My setup:
Samsung Galaxy A51
SM-A515F/N
One UI 3.1
Android 11
See attached screenshot. Any help much appreciated! Cheers.
