replace s8 with pixel 2 bad idea?

Hi everyone,
I want to replace my galaxy s8 with pixel 2 not xl because of general size. What do you think about coming from 5.8 to 5 inches with bezels? Would I regret? Did anyone come from s8?

I can't speak to the S8, but I had a Galaxy Note 5 (5.7 inch screen so I think this is relevant) and I find using the Pixel 2 a lot easier than the Note 5 - two handed and one handed. It's not a huge difference in size, but it makes a difference. I don't feel like I work harder to see the screen, either.

The pixel 2 is far superior to the s8. Don't miss the s8 at all.
I think if there was one plus to the s8 it was Samsung pay...but that is just a toy to play with really and you always have to explain the whom ever you using it with that it will work.lol

Coming from a Note 8 I appreciate the smaller size and the superior camera. It's a bit of a loss without wireless charging and no SD card but that is quickly forgotten when I snap a pic. I'd say go for it, the Pixel 2 is a solid choice.

Don't be fooled by comparison of screen diagonals. The S8's screen is a couple of cm longer, but would only be 3% wider if it were rolled flat, and because the edges are curved down (and so less usable) the effective width of the S8's screen is reduced. So it's not at all like comparing 2 flat displays of the same aspect ratio.
That aside, you've not said why you want the Pixel. Whichever of its features appeal to you (smoother software, faster updates, better camera, front speakers, not having curved edges, or whatever it is that appeals to you) ask yourself whether those are worth more to you than an extra 2cm in the height of the display? And go find one in a shop and have a play with it, see whether you think it works for you.

I had the S8 prior to getting my Pixel 2. I really liked the S8, my complaints with that phone were pretty minimal(I dropped it on a carpeted bathroom floor from toilet level and shattered the screen so obviously that would be my main complaint). But I'd go with the Pixel 2 for the simple fact it's always gonna have the latest version of android.

Well, having moved from HTC because I'm tired of the bezels...and I would plan to get a Pixel XL...which there are complaints, but the bezel issue isn't as bad with this, I moved to an S8+. I'm currently testing the S8+...already, I like many things about it, but if you are somebody who wants/likes to mod/custom roms, bootloader unlocking, TWRP and latest updates/features and still have Safetynet and all the apps working, then the Pixel 2/XL is a better choice.
One thing I'm struggling with and annoyed already by is the issues you have with the Samsung when it comes to rooting. Having a US 955U version, the battery charging to 80% indicator issue, Safetynet breaks Android/Samsung pay, no real systemless root/Magisk etc..the list of modding problems and bugs goes on and on. So yeah, if you want modding...get rid of the Samsung...it is driving me off the deep-end sadly. And since the Exynos version doesn't work really on US carriers, there is obviously no plan to ever have real modding/rooting/unlocking support for US Samsung phones ever.
So the Samsung is lasting me about 1 week if that. Already annoyed with it and its lack of customization/modding and issues. I know we are the smaller percentage of owners who do this, but Google/HTC and some other manufacturers allow and get there are a portion of their customers that want this function and can find workarounds. Samsung and others don't. They pretty much have decided there isn't going to be a bootloader unlock so we can modify the boot.img to fix the Root issues being created.
I'm likely going to just live with the Samsung for 3-4 months, wait for the Pixel XL 2 price to drop down a few hundred more, then move over to this. I hate the lack of External SDCard though. Might be a deal breaker as I sit/think more about it over the next few months.
So I guess the answer really is poster, what is important to you??? That will really dictate which phone/features and abilities you want and can live with for a phone. Nobody can seem to get all of this right...Oh, and I need an AMOLED phone screen. Switching to some new RX Oakleys with polarized lenses (damn glasses costs as much as a smartphone) on and LCD screen you can only see it via Landscape mode with them on. Portrait is nearly black due to the anti-glare on LCD. AMOLED, I can use in normal Portrait mode with my shades on...doesn't seem important, but you other things to consider possibly like myself, more than just modding...driving/sunglasses affect the screen choice, another "factor" in the decision process. So I'm pretty much done with LCD screens forever and need a AMOLED screen. I know, Samsung and Pixel both have OLED, but just another point for people to consider. I drive with Waze and the phone mounted for 2hrs a day, seeing the screen is kind of important.

I went from an S8+ to a Pixel 2 (non XL).
I hated the Samsung, I thought it was WAY too big. But that is a subjective thing and only you can answer whether you'll be okay with the size or not.
My wife has the regular S8, I would have been happy with that size phone I think. But in between hers and mine I still definitely prefer the pixel.

Honestly it's just a question about what your want from from Android. I love the pixel 2 because the software experience is best available on market. If I got a complaint The service support is really fast, 3 years of OS updates.
The others Compagnie offers way more features but after a year your smartphone is left off from the support

3 years of os updates and now a 2 year warranty also

I bought one this week from UK ( not officially in Turkey) I am very happy with it's speed especially fingerprint reader. Only screen is small at start but getting used to it. Thank you for your thoughts.

Ok, many of your reasons for not preferring the Pixel 2 over Samsung are subjective but timely software updates and extended warranty are clear advantages for the Pixel2. I've owned enough phones to know that when an updated operating system comes out for a phone it can transform the user experience, sometimes it is so dramatic it's like getting a new phone.

The S8 and Pixel 2 are roughly the same physical size, so it won't be any harder to hold in your hand. However, because the screen isn't so tall, it might be easier for you to use one handed without shuffling the phone around to reach the top menus.

You can't go wrong either way. I prefer Pixel but there are things I miss about the s8. I think the thing I miss most is Samsung Pay

Its the best Idea ,i had s8 .note8 but Pixel 2 is the best i ever had.

my partner has the s8 and the pixel 2 xl is light years ahead.

Hi I would like to ask pixel 2 users their opinion on if the device is still worth buying, as due to my contract only being due to finish next month i have been unable to get it earlier, so if you were me coming from the nexus 5x at this point in time would you get the pixel 2 ??

Just upgraded from the Droid turbo yesterday.
It is a very zippy device, I'm pretty happy with it thus far.
If I had my pick, I would probably have gone htc u11 but it is fairly pricy.
My second affordable choice to the pixel 2 was htc10. If you get it and you are Verizon be sure to unlock the bootloader before updating.

It is definitely worth the upgrade. In fact, I also own a galaxy s8 (through work) and much prefer to use my pixel 2. I'm rooted and unlocked, though that doesn't add a whole lot to phones anymore. I have magisk, viper4android, and a few tweaks (still passing safetynet) but even without that it's still an awesome phone!

Yes it's worth it. I bought a pixel 2 and a pixel 2xl. I much prefer the smaller one. The bigger one has no display issue to complain about. But the smaller one it's just nice in the hands and in the pocket.

I went from a Nexus 5x to the Pixel 2 and the difference wasn't minor. The Pixel is very fast and smooth, battery life is amazing in comparison. It didn't take much for the 5x to turn to off cores for thermal protection. In my opinion its like the old saying " the difference is like night and day ". I don't believe there is another premium device with a 5" screen that competes with the Pixel 2. If your like me and don't want a larger device and want a premium phone the Pixel 2 is the best option.
A lot of people criticize the Pixel for not having a head phone jack, don't like using a dongle. I've got some very high end headphones IMO the sound quality of the Pixel 2 kills the Nexus 5x. Give me a choice of a head phone jack with the sound quality of the Nexus 5x or using a dongle with the Pixel 2, it's not a choice, give me the dongle. I picked up some cheap Bluetooth ear buds for going wireless when I'm in the waiting room of a doctors office etc. and find them a lot more convenient than more expensive wired ear buds.
I had a Nexus 5, upgraded to the 5x,, basically the difference was fairly minor, excluding the camera. Going from the 5x to the pixel 2 the difference was huge in comparison. I don't mean to imply the Pixel 2 is the best device made, there are other very nice premium options of you don't mind a larger device.

I just upgraded yesterday. I had an iPhone 8 Plus and ordered the Pixel 2. I know the iPhone benchmarks higher but the Pixel 2 feels faster in almost everything I do with it. The only negative I've encountered to date is the lower battery life. It's not going to mess with me getting through a day or anything, but it's seems quite a bit lower than the 8 plus was. However, I think the sound on the Pixel 2 is better and the size is way easier to handle.

I currently own a oneplus one and thinking of upgrading to the pixel 2, my only issue was if the battery life would be good as its 2700 and my oneplus has 3100. going to get it this weekend hopefully i wont be too disappointed, looking fwd to the pure android exp.

My Droid turbo had a very large battery in it. (3700mah? I think) it's not as good, but it is holding up better than I expected. I'm a pretty heavy user and I'm making it through a normal work day. I'm sure on the weekends I will have to charge half through the day

I am going to browse vzw soon and the Pixel 2 xl is one of my main choices.
Do you think I'll have the opportunity to not update and unlock the bootloader beforehand? In my mind I'm assuming vzw wants that device to leave the store on the latest software.

The xl is not unlockable.
But I imagine if you get the pixlel2 you can just flat tell them I just want it in the box unopened. It'll say the update by the way on the side of the box.
You are the customer gain your product the way you desire it or do not pay.

Just upgraded from a LG G5. It seems great so far. Only 2 software upgrades in 2 years on the G5 was so very frustrating. I already have a pixel c, so comparing that experience, I am really looking forward to monthly updates.

With the random issues of the pixel 2 probably not unless you really need a new phone. I'd just wait till the pixel 3 and see what happens. After own the 2 for several months I can say if I could go back I'd just have kept my pixel 1. Worked great and had a headphone jack.

What issues?

I'm runnning a NEXUS 5 which is a nice phone, but a bit slow and with a not so great cam.
Due to several reason I've got a Huawei Mate 9 and a Pixel 2 XL as replacement devices.
I really like the Mate, because of build quality, form factor, dual sim, SD, and the really nice screen.
Sadly the camera is not so perfect as the Pixel's one and, even worse, the selfie cam is really crappy.
So the Pixel is fine (not to comfortable in the hand), but the display is really so disappointing.
The white point is far off and the blue tint really strong.
Totally crap, compared to the prixe tag.

Pixel 2 is pricey... If you want to buy a phone at this price point, I don't think there is a better one to get with a "small" display. The display is great, no blue tint, no burn in, that's a pixel 2Xl problem. The speakers are almost the best you can get (razor seems the best), better then the Nexus 6p I owned. Speed is really fluid, it's fast and fluid. My Nexus 6p was fast but not always fluid(apple style). This one does! Battery is good, can get through the day at 3 to 5 SOT with almost everything on, AOD, now playing (nice feature), gps, connected to smartwatch, WiFi auto off with Tasker profile, adaptive brightness at 25% (it's not that dark at this value,I like a bit brightness). Camera is really really really great, photos are fantastic, portrait mode is unbelievable, video OIS and EIS are superb! I still have to get used to edge sense. I can't use it in my country in Dutch to activate Google Assistant so I rooted and use it now for flashlight, camera, scrolling etc. But that's a tough learn for me... Only 2 downsides of this phone are the high price (lot of phones are way too expensive in my opinion) and the lack of 3,5mm Jack...

Switch from Pixel 2 XL

Hey guys I'm thinking of switching from the Pixel 2 XL to the OnePlus 6.
Some of the reasons I'm thinking of switching is that I miss having the headphone jack. It's gotten quite annoying not having it. I don't take many pictures, so I'm not too concerned with the camera downgrade. Price is definitely a big deal. I can sell my Pixel on Swappa and essentially break even. If I wait til the Pixel 3 and trade mine in, I still have to come up with 300-400 to upgrade. If I switch the the OnePlus 6, I'm getting the latest specs, extra RAM at pretty much no cost.
What do you guys think? Wanna help me decide?

I came from the HTC U Ultra, and for me atleast the One Plus turned out to be a really good investment. I also switched in part to the Headphone jack, and extra RAM. I do like he the phone so far, and found the camera to be on par with my HTC phone if not a bit better. The only complaint I have is I find the speaker , and vibration quite weak as compared to my HTC. In the end, the specs are quite good for the price

The 6 has a much worse vibration motor than the 2XL; to me at least, it is a huge difference and I really dislike the feel of the motor on the 6.
Colours/screen however, looks better to me on the 6, despite having a lower resolution - colours are more vibrant and no screen issues that many users report on the 2XL.
Performance is better on the 6 and that is a bit obvious I know, but I was shocked at the difference - it's actually noticable! Apps launch insanely fast while the 2XL is still stuck on that same app's splash screen.
The camera is not great at all in my opinion (on the 6). I could even go as far as saying it's slightly below average. Maybe it's because the Pixel's camera has spoiled me. You mentioned this isn't an important thing to you so you should be fine in this department.
I have all Bluetooth accessories, including headphones, so a headphone jack isn't necessary for me, but for your needs, it seems like another plus! (No pun intended lol).
Not sure if custom development (ROMs, kernels, etc.) are important, but OnePlus should have a lot more of that than the Pixels.
And finally, the biggest "feature" is the price - OnePlus is the clear winner here as well (especially for what you get in return).

I'll never keep one plus 6 as my primary device cos I'm into photography. The only reason I have this for dash charging and dual SIM. Also I'm a digital nomad and I carry multiple devices. I retired my LG G4 which was an excellent shooter and was my back up device, now that's been replaced with one plus 6.
The extra specs and Ram doesn't really scream performance when you pit it against pixel 2 XL. One plus reduces all the animations to make the device faster but it doesn't have a very noticeable performance than my pixel.
I'm not bothered with the notch.
If you have the budget do both and you'll be happy. Else get this device and play around with both and sell what you think doesn't work for you.
My pixel is very dear to me so I would never think of replacing it with any other device. Also with one plus you lose the water proof thinge!!

I can see how the speaker and vibration could be bothersome. I love my Pixel 2 XL speakers, but I don't get to use them much because I'm at work or out a lot, and headphones would definitely come in handy. I have some Bluetooth headphones, but I have a lot more regular headphones that I have in my backpack, laying around at work, etc. It definitely seems worth the price!

It definitely helps! I've seen plenty of reviews where the reviewers say that the Pixel is faster. I'm not saying mine is slow, but it definitely hangs on some apps and I just have a hard time believing that the newest processor plus more ram isn't going to be faster than last years with less ram.
You've made great points, I hadn't thought about the screen. I definitely could see how the OnePlus 6 has a better screen! Thanks for your input, it's definitely been helpful

I love my Pixel, and I think I'll want the Pixel 3 when it comes out. But price wise for now, it's either sticking with the Pixel 2 XL or going to the OnePlus 6 for a wash. But I hadn't thought using both to see which I like better. I guess I could always return it within the 15 days if I don't like it right?

I sold my 2 XL a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the OnePlus 6. I loved my 2 XL but personally found it just slightly too tall and I just couldn't get used to the screen. Even with "Boosted" and "Saturated" color calibrations the 2 XL screen paled in comparison with my wife's Galaxy S9 and my iPhone X (for work).
As for the camera, the 2 XL notably outshines the iPhone X in almost all conditions. Surprisingly, the pictures from my OnePlus 6 really are not that far off from my 2 XL. The OP6 still outperforms the iPhone X camera with much more clear and color accurate photos.
I loved my 2 XL, overall. But the iPhone X really showed me what a well designed bezel-less phone should be. The OP6 is Android's best alternative to that, IMO. The notch never bothered me on my iPhone and it doesn't bother me on my OP6. I'd make the same switch again in a heartbeat. And the best part is that I sold my 2 XL on Swappa for $710. This allowed me to pickup the OP6 (8GB / 128GB), the Nylon Bumper Case + screen protector and still pocket nearly $100.

I have both and agree with everything you've said. My biggest disappointment with the OnePlus 6 is the speaker. It's awful. I don't know if I'm going to keep the OnePlus 6. It is substantially faster than the Pixel.

Switch. I had the 2 XL, S9+, 5T before this. Camera is good but nowhere near the Pixel (neither are the S9+ or 5T), but if that's not your primary focus you'll be happy with the 6 until the Pixel 3 comes out. You'll probably have better resell value than your 2 XL too.

I am so torn. I have both phones and have about another week to decide if I'm keeping the OnePlus 6. Even though I have cases on both I just saw this guy who did a drop test and completely shattered the OP6.
Sound on Pixel 2 much better. Speed on OnePlus better.

People are down playing how bad the camera is. It's 2x worst vs most of phones listed above. Software hopefully will help it.
Speaker is not great for occasional usage. Few things missing in software.
Luckily OnePlus holds there value. especially next few weeks plus 15 return window to try out.
Phone is very fast and ultimately stock Android. Haven't had any issues with day to day usage. Think it's a decent upgrade till the pixel 3 comes out.

Sold my 2xl an hour's to the money back I paid for this op6 and I already miss it ?

What about it do you miss?

Don't choose the OP6 over the 2XL. It's a big downgrade, from the camera to the screen resolution to the terrible speaker to the vibration motor.

Only thing I haters about both phones is that there is no wireless charging ? but the OnePlus gestures are terrific

Why? I'm still waffling.

I love the screen, the speed is unmatched, and the form factor is more pleasant to hold. Also a big fan of the nav system in Oxygen OS.

I disagree that it's 2x worst most phones. It's not even 2x worse than most flagships. I've seen several pics where it outshines the iPhone x or s9. The problem, in my eyes, is consistency. I'll take 4 pics and get 4 different results. 3 of them will be over-sharpened so much there is noticeable halos if you zoom in, etc. But it *can* take good pics, which leads me to believe with software (or Gcam!!!), we'll be money.
Also, the video is above average for sure. Once they get the focus hunting dealt with that is.

I completely agree with you about the speed and form factor. My biggest hesitation is the speaker and volume.
I've heard conflicting things about whether it can be improved with a software patch or if we're stuck with a hardware problem.

I don't use the phone as a loud speaker, I have Google home devices as well as Bluetooth speakers. That said it's plenty loud enough for me to play games or watch videos.

still worth buying Pixel 2? [June 2018]

I need a new phone. I've been on a Note 4 for a while now, and it has reached its end-of-life. Done tons of research, and even when compared against the latest-and-greatest, the Pixel 2 still reviews well. It seems to be exactly what I am looking for. Even though the announcement of the Pixel 3 is right around the corner, it will mostly likely be late Oct / early Nov before consumers can get them in hand anyway. Five months is a long time, and I'm kind of ready to make a move now.
Is the Pixel 2 still the way to go? Do I have to bite the bullet and get another Samsung and get an s9? (I'm on AT&T btw, and I'm really really sick of having a carrier locked phone and waiting on AT&T to add bloatware to all the updates).
Would I be stupid to get the Pixel 2 today? Talk me into it / talk me out of it.

The Note 4 was arguably Samsung's peak for the Note line, and the S7 Edge the peak for their S line. Sure the new designs are fancy, but are fragile, and Samsung are horrendous when it comes to updates.
I'd suggest looking into a OnePlus 6 especially if you're sick of being carrier locked. Cheaper and more powerful than the Pixel 2, better in every way aside from speakers and camera if they are important to you.
That being said, I miss my Pixel 2 XL for the software as it's so damn smooth, but I do not miss the abysmal screen (Note 4 screen is better). So if you go Pixel 2, definitely get the smaller one with the nicer Samsung screen.

As opposed to what ? Samsung ? Pixel 2 still had several years of guaranteed updates and a smoother software interface with less bloat. I could understand MAYBE if you said an iPhone as most businesses are starting to use iOS and Apple supports their software for several years but against a Samsung that's just a joke.

My $0.02., develop your own pros/cons list as no one knows what's more important to you, than you. Example, I absolutely hate lag in software, probably an unhealthy amount... I also enjoy a headphone jack, but that's less important than software to _me_. At the end of the day, no phone is better at software and camera than the Pixel 2 (I have non-XL, coming from a Samsung Galaxy S3) and that's what I think ultimately creates the Pixel appeal because literally every time you use your phone, in an app, to take a pic, etc, you get that top-of-the-line software experience. How much does Samsung's superior hardware matter when apps lag or freeze and frustrate the user or they're running a 6-month old security patch level?
Also got mine 50% off during Verizon's Black Friday deal last year, figured the savings was worth the locked bootloader. Then we got an unlock method anyways in December so win-win, half price + unlocked BL now. Is the P2 worth full price to you? Who knows. But good luck whatever path you choose!

I love my Pixel 2, but honestly the reason I bought it was because of the camera and because I thought there would be more rom development by this point, but mostly for the camera. I came from a oneplus 3t and I loved that phone so much. The development community was large and very active, and the phone's hardware was awesome.
If it wasn't for the Pixel 2's camera, I would've much rather upgraded to a newer oneplus device or even stuck with my 3t. But seriously, imo forget samsung and there locked ass bootloaders and stupidly overpriced phones.

I ditched Samsung (S6) finally last month and got the Pixel2. I am not much of a ROM flasher but root is very important to me. I was dreading going down in resolution but haven't regretted it once.

Is there any reason NOT to get the Pixel 2? What other phone is popular enough to receive continual updates, and easy to find accessories? Gives fast performance without lag-inducing bloat-ware?

I have an AT&T brand Note 8 and i really like the phone (wish i would have bought the unlocked version). But i like to root and flash roms occasionally and I'm pretty limited on the Note 8. Lucky me my work takes me all across Texas and i just happen to be where AT&T don't have service so i bought the Pixel 2 direct from Google and I'm loving it. I'm running it on Verizon. Super easy to unlock bootloader and root. I've only had it for about a month now and have only did one update (the June update) that got a little confusing but i figured it out (i downloaded it myself from Google instead of doing the ota). Personally, i think the camera on the Note 8 is better than the Pixel 2 camera, but i have both phones so i can always take pictures with the Note and it syncs to my Google photos and i have the pic on both phones. I do feel like the Pixel runs a lot smoother than the Note though. If you buy a Pixel, I'd suggest buying straight from Google so you don't have to worry about the bootloader, although i know carriers bundling things in makes it hard to pass up.

I believe it is still going strong and worth a buy.
Personally I don't the notch design which everyone is copying from Apple now.

In fact I bought one three weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. It's already running Android P DP3. I have considered a Huawei P20, but in the end went with the Pixel 2, mainly because of the fast updates and stock Android (I came from a Nexus 5X)
No regrets!

Well, gotta disagree a little with you on the bolded section. The P2 just isn't sold in large enough numbers to get the choices in accessories like the mainstream iPhones, S9, etc. Otterbox Defender series only has 2 colors for crying out loud...

Pixel 2 series is great, but you still have to make hard compromises. If you want the 2018 screen quality, go pixel 2; if you want a 2018 battery life and screen size, go XL. But to me these 3 things are essential to a phone (ok maybe not the screen size). Considering the price being top of the lines even compared to an iPhone, and it is a 2017 phone (sort), I would wait.
Plus I got a feel that Pixel 3 may come with wireless charging and other technologies that would make using a phone more convenient. While Pixel 2 is just, with great camera. Not an important factor to me personally.

Honestly its a great phone . I got the small version cuz I have a U11PLUS plus as my daily big screen phone. And it's awesome they have all these goodness in such a small phone can be handled one hand
At the moment u11plus plus 128gb and 6gb ram is going for 600$ ish on eBay. If u don't care about updates I would advice u to go with it. The camera with gcam performing better than the pixel believe it or not and the battery is the best in the market. Colours of amazing silver or red are phenomenal, nothing else comes close even the copycat p20 pro

Absolutely! I would recommend the Pixel 2 to anybody who asked I haven't even had any reason to want the XL - I've just got the 5" Pixel.
The software is essentially bloat-free (if you use the Google apps) and the experience is as polished as that of the iPhone.
(I'm not a fan of the iPhone but anybody who's used an Android can't deny on most phones the platform is bloated and a little half-assed in places.)
Plus, if you're big into getting the latest Android versions - we get the Android betas first (and they're supported for 2 years.)
And, once the 2 years are up, if you haven't got a new phone by then, I'd imagine there would be a ton of custom ROMs and such for the phone.
I'm planning on developing some ROMs for the Pixel 2 but I haven't for the moment because I have no reason to; the software is the best I've experienced, so I have no reason to mod the phone. (This is probably why there isn't much in the way of development going on for the phone)
In my opinion, the camera is excellent; I don't use it that much but when I do, it's fast, the quality is fantastic and I have trouble faulting it.
Finally, the battery life is great. As a student, I don't use my phone all day but relatively speaking, I'm quite a heavy user and I get about 3 hours more screen time than most others. Plus, as the phone charges to upwards of 80% in about 45 minutes, battery isn't really an issue. (5-10 minutes at an AC outlet can usually get it up to 20%.)
TL;DR: Particularly if you buy a phone for utility (rather than as a fashion statement), this phone is brilliant. It's the best Android device I've ever owned and, I think, one of the best on the market.
If you want something that looks a bit more flashy, I'd suggest the Pixel XL, though.

The give-a-friend 15% offer is making this pracitcally a no-brainer for me. That brings a brand new direct from Google Pixel2 to $550. That's basically the same price as low end or older model phones. Looks like I'll be picking one up. Thanks for the advice.
Feel free to add any more thoughts, tho, cause I'm sure as we get closer to the launch of the 3, more people are going to be asking for opnions on the 2 as a budget-friendly option.

Pixel 3/3XL Owners: Overall thoughts? What will be your next phone and why?

Hey all Pixel 3/3XL owners (and even those who don't own these devices but have kept up with the Pixel lineup of devices),
I'm just looking to gather some thoughts on what you guys thought about the Pixel 3/3XL phones overall and how they stacked up against your previous phones. I'm also looking to see what you guys think of the seemingly controversial Pixel 4 lineup of devices and lastly, what you now think of the Pixel phone brand in general.
Also, what do you think will be your next phone?
And just for clarification, I'm looking for opinions because I'll soon be in the market for a new phone, and to be honest, I've been a little disappointed with the Pixel lineup as of late because I feel that they've been taking the classic "Apple" approach. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I just feel like there have been fewer meaningful (to me) improvements with each recent Pixel iteration.
With that said, I'm currently thinking about moving to the Note 20 when it releases but usually have a very hard time making up my mind, lol. Hence this post!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Pixel 3 XL was my last Google phone. Started with the Galaxy Nexus and have had every one up to the 3 XL.
Moved to the Note 10+ back in October which I hate. Just went to the OnePlus 8 Pro two weeks ago and I love it. In my opinion (which doesn't mean much) OnePlus phones are the spiritual successor to the Nexus line.

I need dual speakers. That's my must have....and root obviously. I know there are some gaming phones on the market with stereo speakers, but not on Verizon. Also some other phones are starting to use the earpiece and bottom speaker for stereo but the Pixel 2xl and 3xl and the Moto X Pure I had prior, all had front facing speakers. I briefly had the s8+, and although I could root it and it was a beautiful phone the speaker drove me nuts. Anyway, I'm gonna wait for what the 5 has to offer and decide where to go from there. I'll pull the trigger on something new at that time though, or shortly after.

Why'd you hate it (if you don't mind me asking) ?
My one annoyance with the Note lineup is that I'd have to get the unlocked, Exynos version for root...and I feel that the Exynos chips are a large value hit considering their generally crummy performance relative to their Qualcomm counterparts. Now I'm no mobile gamer, and so that doesn't bother me too much. But the previous Samsung phones have had poorer battery life with the Exynos chips, which is the biggest caveat for me.

Bloat (fixable using adb and/or PDP.) I'm used to mostly stock Google apps. Hiding them rather than freezing doesn't make sense to me since they are still taking up resources.
When using Google Pay on any other phone I've had I can unlock it with the pin or fingerprint and then just tap and pay. With the Note 10 I had to unlock, tap, unlock again. Faster to just use my card, which is what I ended up doing.
I prefer a mostly stock Android version. Also prefer fast updates.
No root (unlocked US version) so the minor annoyances were unfixable.
Overall the Note 10+ is a fantastic phone. Nice and fast. Just for me the small things add up. I also briefly used the Note 3 and didn't really like it that much either.

i sold my pixel 3xl months ago. got myself oneplus 8 pro and s20+. at the end i put my oneplus 8 pro at the side. i enjoy s20+ more. its not bloated like what most people claim.

I have the 3XL and this will be my last Google device. Since they went to bed with Big Red everything has changed. Bugs, poor battery life, and just poor quality of late has turned me off. Tie that to less than even lack luster support and I'm done.

Probably the Pixel 3 XL will be my last Google Phone. I use Nexus/Pixel since the Nexus 4, but Pixel 4 is a total disgrace. An ugly, old fashioned and expensive phone. The camera did not fascinate me like in Pixel 3 XL. Average/poor battery life. Now to complete the mess, the master mind behind the pixel's cameras, Marc Levoy quits from Google before the Pixel 4a launch. The media said that Pixel 5 will not going to be a flagship, a huge step back. I like the Google phones because it shows how the Android supposed to be, but i can't accept use a mid range phone in 2020/2021. Maybe I will change to Oneplus, but, I hate that stupid curved display. Probably will buy the Iphone 12 Pro. Iphone 11 é very nice deal. Huge battery life, awesome specs, a very nice camera AND CHEAPER then pixel 4 at their launch. It's still a very good deal until today. It's time to give Apple a chance since my last Iphone 4. For me to stay in Google Phones, Pixel 5 must be a thing that I never seen before in a smartphone.
I wish luck to all who will stay with the Pixel line. Google did a pretty big mess with it.

Because of the safetynet issue with root & xposed + the crappy wearos watches I'll probably switch to iPhone, the dark side with jailbreak it's the best imho

I wanted the pixel 4, but the lack of fingerprint sensor was a little bummer for me, plus google photos "Limited" quality... the Pixel 5 might be for me but seems there will be only pixel 4a which sucks, has a "middle range" snapdragon, not sure how it's comparable with pixel 3xl tho. I really like stock Android but let's see...

Never buying a Google phone again, camera is the best no doubt but battery and gaming performance sucks, heating issues and visible throttling due to heating. Probably gonna buy OnePlus 8

The Pixel 3XL will, more than likely, be my last Google phone. I finally pulled my wife away from Apple's ecosystem and convinced her to give Android a try. So, we both got Pixel 3XLs when it came out nearly two years ago. Since then, I have been less than impressed with this phone. Personally, I've been with the Nexus/Pixel line since the Nexus 4. The 3XL has been a big disappointment to me, and my wife ,who reluctantly gave Android a shot.
Here has been our mutual experience.
Terrible battery life.
Roll-of-the-dice security patches. (Will my battery life get better or worse with this one?)
Terrible RAM management. (News and music playing in the background? "Pick one or the other", says the Pixel.
Great Camera, no doubt.
Google: "You like that app? Well, we're shutting it down"
This truly felt like a beta phone for a flagship price. I wish I would have put my money elsewhere, because as a stock Android lover, this was disappointing.
My wife will more than likely want to jump over to iPhone again, and you know what, I don't blame her. For me at least, it seemed like Google just rushed a phone out for the sake of being competitive.
Yeah, I've had some positive experiences to say about it. The camera was and is absolutely fantastic. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate 99% of the time, and the speakers are loud enough for me. As for a daily driver? I would have looked elsewhere If I had known.

I have been a hardcore Google phone user since the Galaxy Nexus, but after the 3 XL I think I am going to jump ship. Google phones have awesome software, but the hardware is years behind the competition. I plan to keep using my 3 XL until the OnePlus 9T Pro is released next fall, then it's sayonara Google devices! OnePlus phones catch my eye because they have excellent hardware and are easily hackable, exactly what I'm looking for in a phone.

I will probably get the 5 XL. It follows my new phone every 2 years pattern.
