Hello,
I'm pretty new to roms. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge G935F and want to install The King of Nougat rom. In the install instructions it asks that I install the new bootloader and baseband. I just rooted this phone and installed twrp and it is still on the stock firmware Nougat 7.0. My question is if I update the bootloader and baseband will it affect the my backup of the stock firmware if I restore back? Also will it affect any other roms i decide to install in the future or do all other roms come with their own bootloaders and basebands? Any advice is very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello i have 920I with android 5.0.2 rooted with pingpong root and knox not tripped.
I want to update to 5.1.1 using smartswitch, and then rooting the stock rom.
Is there a procedure on how to do this as i have been confused because each thread gives a different method.
Also would i need to flash new bootloaders modems etc... after the update.
If someone can tell me or link me the best way to get a clean install of official 5.1.1 rom and root it.
Thank you

No, the update with have the latest bootloaders etc...
I have not done it because I don't want a custom kernel on my phone. I am not aware of way to do it without tripping knox.
Hey hoping someone can just help answer my question on flashing my phone.
Currently I have a rooted G920F S6 running 5.1.1.
What I want is a bloatware free minimalistic ROM, so I chose to install is XtreStoLite 3.3.1 FINAL Marshmallow Android 6.0.1,
Do I have to update the firmware first? I tried with Samsung smart share but it freezes everytime I try to use the program.
Any help be great
Is your current software version an official Samsung one? For android 6.0.1 you need a custom kernel for your S6. Find one that supports the 6.0.1 bootloader and then a custom recovery like TWRP.

Hey mazwi thanks for the reply. Yes it's the official stock one running 5.1.1.
Phone is rooted and twrp installed I just wanted to be sure I could install the rom straight away without anything else.
Any advice on this kernel be glad great help?
To flash successful a 6.0.1 rom
First you need to flash modem and bootloader that are compatible with MM using odin.

Second make a factory reset
Third flash the rom
Fourth Enjoy your new rom
As for the kernel it will work 100% with the stock but arter's kernel in my opinion is the best.
*flash the kernel after the rom

I have the S6 SM-S906L model. This is the "tracphone straighttalk version of the S6 which apparently has same hardware as the Verizon 920V
This model only has 1 stock firmware available which is 5.02
I am stock and rooted on this device on 5.02 with TWRP 3.0 ...........I simply want to upgrade past 5.02
I don't care about fingerprint
I don't care about having root
I don't care if I cannot downgrade.
I just would like to be running 5..1.1 or 6.01 firmware
I have successfully TWRPed 920V and 920F 5.02 custom roms onto this device.
QUESTION : Wouldn't I need to flash compatible bootloader for 5.1 or 6.0 before I can successfully upgrade past 5.02? If so, what bootloaders would work?
I have been told I I can flash 920R6 6..01 stock rom on this by removing the bootloader and modem files from the tar and just flash................ If so, couldn't I do the same with Verizon 920V 6.01? Or even 920F 6.01?
And back to the same question........don't I need to upgrade bootlooader before upgrading ?
Any help or suggestion is appreciated.
So i installed a custom noughat rom on my note 5. I can switch to marshmellow any time i want by twrp and my backed up marsellow rom..
But i am confused how is Flashing Android Noughat custom rom using TWRP diffrent from Flashing Noughat ROM using ODIN?
Is the diffrent just that noughat custom rom is running under marshmellow boot loader?
I am new to Android so please Explain
Am i losing any thing by not updating via OTA ???

First off, you do not lose anything by updating through OTA except the convenience factor. The reason you can flash a Nougat ROM on your phone through twrp right now is because the Nougat ROM has a marshmellow baseband, just like your phone. Once the firmware comes out officially by Samsung and TMobile then you will need to Odin the firmware on your phone to be able to use Nougat ROMs with the nougat firmware.

I see i get it now.
I think i will stick with custom roms because i do not want to risk flashing odin.
odin

This is something to be familiar with if you flash custom roms and own a Samsung.

You can't downgrade using a stock nougat firmware due to the fact that you can't flash a firmware that has an older binary than the binary version of the currently installed firmware, for this reason, you will not be able to flash a stock nougat firmware.
But, if your bootloader is unlocked and there is a TWRP recovery for your specific model number and there if there are Nougat custom ROMs for your device, you can flash TWRP and then flash a Nougat ROM for your device. If there is not a TWRP or no custom ROMs for your specific model number, you will not be able to go back to nougat.
