Best Method To Transfer SMS/MMS Between Devices - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer my sms/mms messages from one Android phone to another. Here is my setup:
Nexus 6 (Android version 7.0 - rooted) ==> Google Pixel XL (Android version 7.1.1 - unrooted Verizon)
Normally I would use MyBackup Pro to do the transfer, but unfortunately the Verizon Pixel XL cannot be rooted when it is 7.1.1. So I tried using SMS Backup & Restore, but unfortunately many (or most) of the pictures in the MMS messages did not transfer, but otherwise all SMS messages were transferred.
It looks like there is a native Android option to transfer apps, messages, etc when making a direct connection using a cable, but I'm not sure if I want to do that because it looks like it transfers everything (apps, messages, logs, pictures, etc), but I really only want to transfer the messages.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best method to get all of my SMS/MMS messages with all of the pictures included?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Transfer Android SMS to iPhone

Hello I have both Android and iPhone. I want to transfer one of my conversations on my iPhone (please don't ask me why). Do you know how I can do that? I tried searching already on google but I can't find any solutions. Backuptrans and Mobiletrans is so expensive for just 600+ messages.
Apple is going to release new app that helps users to switch from Android to iOS. I don't know if it has Messages sending option, but you need to wait for it: http://www.theverge.com/2015/6/8/8748113/apple-made-an-android-app-for-switchers
How to Transfer SMS from Android to iPhone
You've got tired of Android and ready to make the switch to iPhone. It is certainly a hassle to leave behind your important text messages when move to the new iPhone 6, 6 Plus, or 5S. To transfer text messages from Android to iPhone, you'll make sure that you have a Windows PC, two USB cables, and a Mobile Transfer tool, like Jihosoft Phone Transfer. Use USB cables to connect your Android and iPhone to the PC and the phone transfer tool will transfer text messages, contacts, calendar, photos, videos, music and other data from Android to iPhone.

Click to collapse
It is called 'Move to iOS' but only works for new or reset ios devices. Messages attachments transferring is not supported.

Is there any way (app or otherwise) to prune SMS/MMS conversations to X messages

On Android 6 and 7, is there any way, with apps or otherwise to prune conversations (SMS and Group chats) to a maximum size on the Android SMS database (so NOT Textra for example)?
This used to be a function, but I haven't seen it anymore in any of the text apps I use including Google's now.
I am rooted so if there's a method that requires root, I can do that too.

Transfer MMS history from HTC Desire

My mother has a good old Desire (A8181, Android 2.2.2). Well, it's high time we upgraded it. But the problem is that there is a rich message history with hundreds of MMS messages. I tried doing a backup with "MyPhoneExplorer" tool, but it didn't extract the images from MMS. I also tried an app called "Save MMS", but unfortunately, it wouldn't even start.
Is there a way of doing a complete data transfer - contacts, SMS conversations and MMS history - to a new Android phone, so that my mother could browse the MMS history and view the pictures as she does on Desire?

SMS and MMS messages restore to Pixel 3

I'm moving from a Note 4 to the Pixel 3. I've got most data transferred, but there is a problem with group text messages.
I'm using the stock Android Messages app on both phones.
I used MyBackupPro to save and restore the messages. It appears to mostly work, but for group conversations, only the parts I sent are part of the restored conversation. Other non-group texts and MMS contain both sides of conversations.
Is there a different approach I should use to correctly transfer my SMS and MMS data?
I used SMS Backup & Restore, but I do note have group texts, so cannot confirm it would work.
Been using SMS backup and restore with a combination of Titanium Backup for years. Works 99% of the time. There is a new app called Migrate. Does it all in one with a flash able zip in TWRP for restore. Haven't actually used it but, looks promising.
Thanks for the replies.
I repeated the transfer using Titanium Backup. This method worked correctly, so apparently the issue is with MyBackup Pro.

Transfer messages AND PHOTOS/VIDEOS sent during the messages from iPhone to Samsung?

So yeah, I had already figured out that a tool like iSMS2droid lets you transfer the messages from iphone to android by downloading the iCloud backup that has the message in it but it notably left the photos and videos that I sent/recevied not in the messages and replaced them with blank messages.
Is there a way to completely transfer this media? Also, do the paid services like drfone actually transfer the media in the text messages along with the texts themselves?----That's basically my question. The following is just some ramblings that may help you answer the quesiton, thank you for your time again.
People have said that it wouldn't be possible because you're trying to turn iCloud data into android data but that's what iSMS2droid does so I think it should be possible, plus I think I have downloaded all this data in some weird forme anyway and it's just sitting there waiting to be used!
